I purchased a whole life policy for my daughter shortly after she was born. Fortunately, there has been no reason to use the policy. My main reason for purchase was because whole life policies can become quite expensive as you age. I figure this policy can serve a purpose as either a savings account or she can continue the policy on her own at a certain point. Either way, I enjoy the flexibility Gerber offers and you can make payments on-line. The one complaint I have is that even though I'm a customer, I get tons of promotional mail to buy a policy, which I already have. That is kind of frustrating. I have checked rates through other companies and they are very similar. Also, this is a policy that you can purchase on your own without having to go through an agent.
