I often order lunch from Aoki because the cost of the 2 for $9 or 3 for $11 special is irresistible. That said, I place the order an hour and a half before I need it since I know that it will be a long wait. I highly recommend the spicy crunchy salmon, sweet potato roll, and eel anything.

Pros: Food, lunch special prices

Cons: Bad service, no regard for their customers

Service was quick and attentive. Restaurant was not crowded so we were seated immediately but it was a Monday night. Best dish of the night: calamari with ginger sauce. Wow!

A great place to hang out with friends and have a drink. The variety of Japanese dishes available is awesome. It's delicious and very authentic. The food comes in small portions so be prepared to spend a little more.

Went this past Friday with a party of four. Attentive service by multiple hosts/hostesses. Wine choices were very good (surprising for a sushi place). Tranquil waterfall in the dining room was a nice touch. We had some unique dishes/rolls and all were delicious. BBQ Chilean Sea Bass roll, Amazing spicy mix was just that. Spicy mixed sushi formed into a star shape and covered in black caviar and a quail egg. It was wonderful. We will return and highly recommend it to others. Reasonable prices didn?t hurt, either!

I found this place this summer. I've been to a ton of japanese/sushi restaurants in NYC and this is definitely my favorite. The decor is trendy and modern, but the prices are really low. The lunch special is especially amazing. This is all not mentioning the food, which is great in itself. Overall, a great spot. If you're in the area, especially around lunch time, make sure to stop by.

Pros: Food, style, service, value

Cons: In kind of a weird location

Very good sushi and portions. Trendy decor and friendly service. Seating in booths could use back cushions as seats are spaced far from tables. Creative menu (Edamame soup!), with over 90 choices.
Individually wrapped mints would be a more sanitary choice. Give it a try--very convenient to the Theatre District.

I went here by myself after a long day working and wanted to find a nice sushi bar, close to my hotel (the Doubletree) where I could sit, wind down and read my novel over sake and a few sushi bites. Many of the sushi bars in NY are very expensive & noisy and I was pleased to find one within walking distance at a very reasonable price range. They have great rolls and super fresh fish. The presentation of each piece is very nice as well. There was NO ONE in there when I got there at about 8:00PM (which, after eating there, I was very surprised to find) . Service was excellent from all.

What WOW'ed me was when I returned about 2 months later, and sat down....the sushi chef said "Hi!...Long time since you were here last...a couple months ago?" and made the same starter roll I had the first time there - FROM MEMORY!! He actually DID remember me from a single visit 2 months prior. Wow! Now in a city that size, that was very impressive. There were a few more customers this time, but again, I got great service, great food and a lovely dinner. I loved it so much I went back the next night and ate there again. Thank you!! I will return EVERY time I am in the city!

Pros: Everything, great for couples, fresh food, nice simple decor

Cons: Not really any, unless you are going there to socialize and meet people

This restaurant has had me coming back on an almost daily basis. First of all, the food is very well done - simple, straightforward, and plated artistically, but without ridiculous amounts of flair. The prices make the place an absolute steal. My usual is the three roll combo (my fav is the eel & avocado) + soup or salad for $10, which will fill you up without killing your wallet. The service is also exceptionally quick and diligent (your water or cup of tea will never go empty), which is a HUGE plus for lunch.

Make sure you get a seat by the waterfall - its a great way to get a relaxing "time out" from a busy work day.

Pros: Value, ambience, quick lunch service

Cons: The table can get crowded.... the plates are a little too big.

A little overrated I believe. While the rolls were interesting and good, the sashimi was less than average. The interior was very neat to see and watch the waterfalls, but when I was sat on a hard plank wood bench... I guess I was in the mood for a chair that evening.
Prices were lower than I anticipated.
Food was okay. Service was not bad enough to complain. I don't know that I will make a return trip.

Went on a Saturday early evening and did not have to wait for a table. The interior is nice. We enjoyed trying the special rolls... interesting combinations and VERY tasty. The menu also has all of the standard rolls reasonably priced... they were good, but would come back again to try some more of the special rolls. They were memorable! With one appetizer, 5 rolls, 2 ice creams, 1 cocktail, and 3 beers the bill came out in the $80 range.... awesome for all the food, drinks, and ambience. We will definitely return and bring some friends!!

I found this place because it was recommended by an actress in a playbill. I've been to many Japanese restaurants and I was very impressed with this place. The atmosphere and food was great. I was thoroughly impressed with the service (amazing!) and hostess' knowledge of sake. It turned out that she normally works as a server but I believe hosts one night of the week. She is also the one who orders the sake for the restaurant. If you love sake, she is the person to ask (wish I got her name). Her recommendations were right on target.

Discovered this based on wanting Sushi and needing a place near a particular Broadway theatre. I eat in a lot of Japanese restaurants and this is definitely a cut above. As noted by other reviewers, very nice "hip but not too hip" design - a large waterfall adds a nice restful sound. Fish in the sushi was very fresh, and presentation was quite impressive. Several special hand rolls we ordered had unusual combinations of ingredients that really worked. For the quality of the sushi, the prices are very reasonable. Waiters were also excellent - friendly and attentive but not hovering. I will definitely return!

I go here at lease once a week for lunch. I usually get 3 rolls for $10, sometime the Shr. Better than any of those other places like Monster or whatever. They are all sub-par and are rip-offs. Screw them. This place rocks and would like to try dinner there soon. PS, don't sit at the sushi bar, it's mine.

This place is amazing. All around I was very impressed with my first visit to Aoki. Everything from the ambiance to the wait staff and most important the food was first rate. Everything was done to perfection. The Chilian sea Bass and tuna steak was out of this world. The Salmon tartar and tuna carparcio was worth going back for more! Amazing sushi. excellent roll and well prepared. I need to go back and try more on the menu... I highly reccomend this place!!!!!!!!

Ambiance, service, presentation...all very nice. We had the ceviche for an appetizer and three rolls for dinner. Everything tasted fine, but nothing exceptional to entice us to return instead of trying something else that's new.

smack in the theater district on a side street. Cool decor , good rolls and cocktailmenu. The bartender took time with us and made some great recomendations on sake cocktails, saketinis. Also dropped in after work and they had happy hour drink specials.

It's May 13th, and this place has been open for 1 month. As my girlfriend and I walked by we noticed ZERO people eating there. Skeptical of the quality of the food, we went in. Surprisingly, however, the food was excellent, rivaling places such as Sushi Samba, Aki, and Ocean Grill in freshness of the food and quality of presentation. I would highly recommend. There was plenty of space, with large tables (granted we were the only ones in there). The two cons were the lack of information on the menus (they had just sushi roll names, with no description of their contents, printed in a bland format), and music selection, which didn't fit the ambiance. Two things that, hopefully, can be easily fixed.

Went to dinner at Aoki last night and it was outstanding! This place has fresh sushi and unique rolls. The white tuna was especially yummy! The atmosphere was hip (but not too hip) and is an oasis in the bustle of surrounding Times Square. Prices were certainly reasonable for the quality. The service was great as well! Well definitely be back!
