Since my last review 12/30/2012 titled jeff gardner the snake, some things have taken place. American Homes did come and do the walk through and then came back and fixed some of the problems. We are very upset about a lot of things and name calling is not the way to handle anything, so sorry Jeff. American Homes has since came and fixed a lot of things, there are some more that still needs to be done, but the factory is at fault there, and they have already contacted me on coming to fix those problems. We are still dealing with some issues and hopefully they will be cleared up soon. I was told that you will have problems such as molding not matching up,doors needing adjustments and space between the molding and ceiling with any manufactured homes since they are built in the factory, but it is the actions and reactions of the company and employees that really make a difference. As far as i am concerned i am unhappy with Jeff and his actions. Jeff did try and put one over on us, by trying to get us to sign a payment agreement for supplies i don't believe we should pay for, by telling us he would not agree to do a walk thru until we would sign that payment agreement. We both have our disagreements on that bill but that has to do a with a specific person not the company. But as i stated before there are so many houses already built that just need a little tlc and could cost less than buying a manufactured home, so make sure to look around first and check your local foreclosures for some great deals and always have a credited home inspector come and check it before you buy!

We went through the whole process back in may 2012 and we finally closed in the end of august. we were told it would take 6 weeks from that day for our house to be finished. we just moved in the week before Christmas. We were given many excuses as to why our home was never done on time but none of those excuses matched up. American homes drove through a ditch with our house, took out our street sign and cut down half our tree without permission. Then when they craned it they nailed boards to the side of the house and ended up ripping up the vinyl in the kitchen. Both were never fixed. The cracks they "fixed" came right back and 2 of the doors don't shut. The floor is coming up behind the toilet and none of the molding around the doors match up. they chipped our counter tops and painted the bottom of our medicine cabinet. the molding on top of the cabinets is falling off. and half our cabinets have dings, cracks and scrapes on them. We found large clumps of dry putty in the top of the toilet and all over a hall light. you can see gaps all around one of our outside doors and there is gaps where the molding and ceiling are supposed to meet. all the outlets are cock eye and the molding around the doors and ceiling aren't level. They also added a dormer to our house which i specifically told them we did not want because our contractor to do the porches was doing an enclosed porch and would not be able to do it with the 2 dormer. I told Mike Perry about it and he said they would remove it, but never did. So our contractor had to resubmit his quotes to do a standard porch and we lost what we wanted. Now Jeff Gardner REFUSES to do a walk through to fix all the PROBLEMS that are still wrong with our house until we agree to pay for the extra siding and roofing for the enclosed porch we are unable to do because he ordered the house with the 2nd dormer. we have had nothing but lies from Jeff, he got us to buy a house that they refuse to fix. Commodore should not be allowed to get away with anything either, they throw these houses together without a second thought. They have been doing this long enough they should have a ton of practice doing it the right way. Do yourselves a favor and spend your money on a fixer upper, at least that way you will save time, money and stress, and you will end up with what you want and not just what they give you. This company who in the end could care less if your house becomes condemned or falls apart at the seems.

Hello everyone, I would like to say that my purchase process felt very relaxed and low pressure, and that this company was there to work with me, not just a quick sale.. For me this was comforting. When our home was delivered and set up we had a few problems, however once we contacted our sales person they worked quickly to resolve our issues and make things 110%. To me, this is just as important as not having any problems at all with our home. I think some people that have never owned a home in the past may ("renters" ) naturally have much higher expectations and needs which can lead to them being unhappy with a new home. Remember people... your building a new home, YOU ARE A HOMEOWNER NOW AND HAVE TO TAKE CERTAIN RESPONSIBILITIES FOR YOUR NEW HOME...you CANT call your landlord anymore to come out and fix YOUR HOME....

and yes, I did shop around and found that for me, American Homes of Richfield Springs was the best fit, and I encourage you to do the same for yourself! and yes, I was a previous homeowner, so maybe that gives me a better understanding of how life actually works...

I don't know what your issues were with this business, but I have purchased 2 homes from this company, 1 in 2002 and 1 in 2006.. and I am very happy with my experience. I do recommend this housing company to everyone that I come across that is in the market!

Sorry others have had a bad experience.. some people unfortunately do have UNREALISTIC expectations.

Everything that was said about American Homes is 100 percent the truth. They do lie and they talk about every cust that walks in after they walk out. Mark up at least 50 percent You can get a better price if you just get the shell and thats it,then do it all yourself. The manager is a wacko and likes to talk about his guns and how the world is coming to an end. Think about this the reps make 30,000 a year flat but with commissions they make 70,80,even 100. Stay away from them G and I homes is smaller and they really care. Trust me I know first hand...

My wife and I bought a home thru American Homes and EVERYONE there LIES! We have same problem! They didn't give us the upgrades we paid for and their installation team did a terrible job! It has been months of fighting these thieves! I need more people standing together to put these people out of buisness! I have written the attorney general's office and am waiting for a response. I also took them to court and we were defered to the Court in Herkimer County because of a little clause in the contract that said it had to be tried in their county? We have been in litegation for months now. American Homes sends a crew to appease the courts but still hasn't fixed the problems. As a matter of fact Steve Hectus the crew chief for the installation dept broke our countertop and said that Ed Schell himself said and he quoted, "Tell them, (meaning me and my wife) Take it up with our attorney" . I am out of funds to keep paying a lawyer and we need people to stick together. We are willing to post banners and even ride in front of their buisness to warn potential VICTIMS!
Please anyone willing to join us contact me and my wife @ mariah2@frontiernet.net

Agree same exact experience! What is the Attorney General of NY doing?? This company should be shut down!! We would have been better off doing our homework and buying elsewhere! 9 months still waiting for MAJOR repairs! Lies and more lies... This company and Ken Schell should be shut down!!!

Bought a home but it came without sinks, countertops, the cabinets I ordered never were provided, missing ceramic floors and the roof is incomplete. After 4 month of trying to resolve I have been given nothing but lies and empty promises from the salesperson on up to the manager, installation manager, inspector and ultimately the manufacturer New Era and Penn West. American Homes, Kenn -Schl LLC, New Era and Penn West should not be allowed to do business in the State of New York. Beware. do not believe them! Even if it is in writing they don't keep their word and they will keep your money.
