I went with my girlfriend on a Monday night and ordered miso soup, 2 rolls, and some sushi/sashimi. The service was prompt, but the restuarant only had one group there that night. The rolls are very tiny and even though we had 1 roll with tuna and another with eel, they tasted almost the same. We did not feel that we had our $10 worth in the rolls; it felt more like an appetizer than an entree. There are a lot of better japanese places in nearby East Village that charge the same prices and provide better portions, such as Nori.

Pros: Decent, but fresh, rolls, sushi, and sashimi.

Cons: For a $10 roll, it sure left me desiring more.

I went to Cube 63 with some friends this past Saturday night for a casual birthday dinner. I called the restaurant to tell them that my group was running late due to traffic and that's when they FIRST informed me that there was a 1.5 hour time limit on the table, from the time of the reservation, regardless of when our party arrived. The lady was EXTREMELY rude and repeatedly asked if we were going to show up or not, clearly because she wanted to give our tables away. When I arrived at the restaurant only a few minutes after the reservation time, she rudely asked AGAIN if the rest of my friends were definitely going to show up. Furthermore, she couldn't seem to understand English or something, because she was confused when I told her that they need to tell people about the time limit on the table WHEN THEY ARE MAKING THE RESERVATION, NOT WHEN THEY SHOW UP! Then they gave us a 4 person table for 6 people, it was ridiculously small and uncomfortable! They also rushed us during the meal and especially towards the end of the time limit. The sushi is good, but the rolls are tiny, and its not worth the harassment. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!!!!

Pros: fresh fish

Cons: service, small rolls, tiny restaurant

I've gone to this restaurant once or twice a year since it opened and always wonder why I don't go more. It can be a bit cozy in there, but you never mind once you get your food. This is by far the best value for sushi I've found in NYC. Bond Street may be better, but other than that I can't really say anyone else provides a superior sushi meal.

Cons: A bit tight and need a reservation

I could not believe the staff at this place. Immediately upon arriving we were told we had a time limit on our reservation and would have to leave in an hour and a half. This place is BYOB and should be a great place to relax with your friends and couple bottles of wine. Instead we were rushed through dinner and dessert and then told outright we had to leave. When we asked if we could finish our bottle of wine, the staff verbally attacked us. I will never return to this place and would urge no one else to go. There are far better BYOB sushi places with much nicer staff.

I was looking for to this place. The service was inattentive and actually downright rude. The sushi was average at best but not bad. The space is cool and the neighborhood great. We were asked to leave immediately upon paying the check, which was very disturbing. There are plenty of other places to grab great sushi with good service and not be rushed. Go to those.

Mmmm tasty! Good priced, good tasting sushi. Like most people have said, their sashimi plate is good. I really like their noodle dishes; the peanut noodles are good and theres a few spicy seafood ones, but I dont remember which one i like better. Of the other dishes I've tried most of them were tasty.

I need my sushi fix about once or twice a week so i went to this restaurant after reading some good reviews. I must say that this place is extremely overrated. The sushi is average...we ordered a few different special rolls and they all tasted the same. Place lacks any ambiance and is a bit run down (and not in the cool trendy way). Service was extremely slow. We got our rolls 45 minutes after out appetizers. There are far better sushi joints than this one so keep looking...

I LOVE this place! I am completely addicted to their salmon tartare and Volcano Roll! It's a tiny place that gets pretty loud, but the food is worth it! I almost wish the owners would consider expanding their space. Definitely remember to make reservations and bring a bottle of wine/ sake!

Pros: Fresh Delicious Sushi!! BYOB

Cons: Small, Loud

My girlfriend and I went there on a Friday night. The sushi was fantastic; very creative rolls and all the fish was fresh and tasty. The service was good enough; a little slow, but we were in no rush to leave anyway. The only drawback being it is a little small and you're sort of sitting on top of the tables next to you. But all in all, a nice experience.

I found this place on City Search so me and friends ordered delivery. The rolls were small, overpriced. and nothing special. Prices were higher than the menu online Food is ok but basically wasn't impressed.

I had heard a lot of hype about Cube 63, so I was excited to eat there. However, I found the experience lacking overall. It was SO LOUD that I was screaming and could hardly hear my friend across the table. It was disgustingly annoying. Next, being that it is BYOB, we brought our own bottle of white wine. However, they would not offer an ice bucket, and our wine was warm by the end of dinner. Thus, if you are bringing your own alcohol, bring something that doesn't need to be served cold. Next, the waitress was EXTREMELY unfriendly and did not smile once. Even she seemed annoyed at the noise of the place and got testy that she could not hear us. We ordered the omakase, and I found the food "eh". The cooked food is below average. The raw food was average, but nothing mind blowing. I would rate this place average at best for food and horrible for ambience/service. It definitely does not live up to the hype.

Cons: Obnoxiously loud, just ok food

I am not a huge fan of Sushi, but when I tried the rolls at Cube 63 for the first time, I was hooked! The sushi rolls are the best I have EVER had! The volcano roll gives me chills every time I eat it. It is the perfect combination of food. The spicy tuna is also amazing, along with most of their rolls. I wouldn't try the CA roll...a little boring. It is a great place for big parties because it is BYOB. It does get loud on the weekends or late weekdays. Make reservations unless you go very early! If you are looking for good food but a quiet place, try the one in Brooklyn.

Cube 63 offers great specialty rolls. But be warned, they're small rolls (and for $10 a roll, I'd expect more), and the portions for sashimi are half the size of what you'd normally get elsewhere. I would come back here, but after the winter (wouldn't want to haul my bulky puffer coat in here). Bring as less "baggage" as possible, as the space is tiny! Fortunately, they take reservations.

I have been to Cube 63 twice now and when I'm not there I'm thinking about going there. The rolls are SUPERB and INNOVATIVE (those who say otherwise must be eating somewhere else). From the Pink Lady to my absolute favorite, the Volcano roll, this place is bound to please and keep you coming back for more. Even the standard stuff like the Spider, Dragon, and Rainbow rolls are top notch. Another must is the Melon Shrimp appetizer.... do not pass it up. And to top it all off... IT'S BYOB and there is a deli across the street that sells cold beer (even Sapporo). On the downside, the place is tiny... probably NOT the best place for a birthday party of 10. Reservations are a must in my opinion. Also, don't be offended if you try to push back the reservation on the night of your visit and then get some static from the hostess (especially if you have a large group of people)... the place is tiny and constantly busy! Bottom line: Best Damn Sushi this side of the Pacific! I love this place and I'll be there tonight!

My boyfriend and I ate here for the first time before a show so we arrived very early. Service was good and fast (because there were very few people there so early??). The Clinton roll was excellent (tuna was fresh and delicious). Menu is affordable and we really enjoyed the fact that it was BYOB. I can't wait to go back!

The food was good but extremely slow service. The restaurant is tiny but they still need more than 2 unfriendly waitresses to work it. Our waitress came to our table once on her own, the other two times we had to flag her down repeatedly. We left a 15% tip out of habit because there was absolutely nothing exceptional about her service. The waitress had the nerve to tell us the tip wasn't enough. Had it been my call, I would have taken the entire tip back but my friend is much nicer than I am. Everyone who worked there seemed miserable and there are enough sushi restaurants in NYC to be picky when it comes to choosing a restaurant. I won't be going back there.

This is my favorite restaurant in the city. Its the size of a shoebox, so you definitely need reservations, but the sushi is amazing. The Volcano roll is the best. Since this place is BYOB, the staff gets antsy for you to leave once you are finished eating and are just sipping on cocktails, so eat slowly to avoid the glares. This place is not good for large groups since its so small and the music is loud, but its perfect for four people are less. Unbelievable sushi.

The fish was fresh, the place is pleasant in general but there was nothing innovative, nothing very impressive about the sushi or the rolls. No sauces/additional flourish to finish the sushi pieces so they looked and tasted very plain. The rolls were dry and uninspired except for the Carribean Roll & the Pink Lady which we did think were exceptional. My search for great sushi continues. Maybe we should have tried Ki on Smith St or Blue Ribbon in the Slope.

The store front may make you wonder what you're getting into but once your wine has been opened and you're digging into your appetizer, you forget where you are. The unigue rolls may be up there in price, but they're worth it AND you don't have to pay restaurant prices for your booze. You don't need reservations before 7, but it gets packed after that. It also has a tendency to get noisy and crowded if you go late.

Absolutely fantastic sushi. Living in Bucks County, PA, my husband and I have the luxury to travel to all the great cities and areas in the Northeast. Philadelphia, DC, NYC, Baltimore, New Jersey (yes they do have some great restaurants in Jersey) Cubes 63 shines above all. Don't listen to any negative reviews. We have been to this restaurant a dozen times. The sushi is unbelievable, and the staff is professional, proficient and accomodating. Not as fancy as Nobu or Morimoto, but just as delicious.

I'm not one to do this...in fact, I've NEVER done this before. My 25th Bday was nearly ruined by this restaurant. First off, I booked a table reservation THREE weeks in advance...they told me I could only have a max of ten people and that the only times available were either 7pm or 10 pm...I said, OKAY, I booked the 7pm. Yesterday the day of BDAY, an hour before the dinner, I call the restaurant to tell them we are running about 30 minutes behind...they THEN tell me on the phone that my party of 10 has to be OUT of the restaurant at 8:30pm sharp...no matter what...thats their policy and they NEVER told me! After being resonable and keeping my cool, I asked to speak with a manager, there isn't one. THEN the rude woman tells me there is also a $30 mininum plate charge PER PERSON!! THEY never told me that either! Now, this is a BYOB & dessert place...so $30 dollars worth of food per person...is ridiculous!! She did absolutely nothing to try and work with us. Needless to say I had to call my whole party and find somewhere else to go within an hour. This caused me soo much frustration, I can't even begin to explain; on my bday...60 minutes before dinner! SO, my advice, is don't waste your time, we were treated horribly.

I am appauled. My roommate booked this restaurant 3 weeks in advance for a 7:00 reservation with a group of 10 people on a Wednesday night. We called on the night of the reservation to see if we could possibly move it back 30 minutes to allow for late guests. The woman on the phone proceeded to tell us that we *could* come late, but would be asked to leave at 8:30 due to the table being taken by another group. My roommate was not explained this policy when she made the reservation- the woman said, "Well, I mean, it's just... common knowledge that you only need the table for an hour and a half." I beg your pardon? She told us that she would ask our table to leave at 8:30, even if we weren't done eating. And THEN she had the audacity to say: "Well, you know there's a $30 minimum per person with a group of 7 or larger, right?" My roommate was NEVER told this when she made the reservation. How can EACH PERSON spend $30 when it's BYOB?? I asked to speak to a manager. She said, "Well there isn't a manager... it's just... you know..." Absolutely terrible. This was the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I am telling everyone I know never to go to this restaurant and I will keep posting this so everyone can see how rude and un-accomodating these people were.

On a mission to scope out the better sushi places in NYC, we came across Cube 63 and absolutely loved it! Due to the limited seating, the restaurant was very crowded but we were lucky to find a place at the sushi bar. Sushi was well prepared and the presentation was great. A bit off the beaten path, but a great place if you are looking for BYOB and tasty sushi!

The food is indeed quite good. However, the music was too loud, and the space cramped. The price is decent, although you don't get a lot for the omakase. The BYOB indeed helps with the bill at the end of the night.

I love this place. I love the sushi. The Chefs are great. It's BYOB! You can't argue for more. I once lived above this place and ate there at least once a week. I always sit at the bar and the chefs would sometimes create certain dishes, rolls, or sushi that isn't on the menu. The fish is quite fresh and the ambiance is nice, although the place is a little small. I heard they just opened another place in Brooklyn though that's bigger. I would highly recommend this place although reservations are a must.

Pros: Great Sushi, Awesome Service, Cheap Prices

Cons: Cramped Quarters

.

This is my favorite restaurant to take people to in the city. Perfect to go with one friend, a bottle of wine and saki and saddle up to the bar. The sushi chefs Ben, Ken, and Wing are so much fun. I can't understand a word they are saying but they make the best Volcano Roll I have ever had. Its put in the toaster and literally melts in your mouth. Its BYOB, bring a big bottle of something and share it with the guys, they appreciate it and they will remember you when you come back. All my out of town friends that I have taken are obsessed and won't stop harassing me about how nothing they have had since even compares to that Volcano Roll. Get reservations b/c the place is tiny and the bar only seats 4 people.

I went here last month with a few friends and had a great experience. It's BYOB which is nice. The place is TINY and reservations are key. Good place to stop at before hitting the bars in the LES. I highly recommend the Volcano Roll, it's probably the best tasting sushi I've ever had!!

This place is great. Nice staff. Great, fresh food. Good prices. Liquor store down the block. What more could you ask for? Decor is a bit bland - but that might be the point.

I have been to Cube 63 on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The sushi is always fresh and without a doubt the best in the city. The Volcano Roll is to die for! You get such a bang for your buck here. Sushi for two won't cost you more than $70, and you will be stuffed by the end of your meal. The music and ambience are great. I will return in the very near future.

I love this place! I am a newbie to the whole Sushi scene. I am the wimpy 'cooked only' type of gal, however, I have broaden my horizons thanks to this place. The Volcano Roll is wonderful as well as my favorit "The Pink Lady". I am always nervous recomending places to my hard to please foodie friends but everytimg I take someone new to this place they RAVE! It can be a little loud, decor is majorly lacking and chairs are metal and freezing during the winter, but who cares? The food is what brings me back not the scuffed up white walls!

My dining companion and I brought a bottle of wine and they immediately opened it for us. All of the specialty rolls sounded heavenly but we went for the Clinton roll. It was delicious but it was nothing compared to the spicy tuna roll (which cost half as much!). Next time (and there definitely will be many more next times), we will get the volcano roll. We also had the eel and avocado and the yellowtail/green onion. Both were very good.

If you go here, sit at the bar. The two brothers that make the sushi are hilarious, and get drunker and drunker as the evening wears on. If you BYO, make sure you share. The food is merely good, but the experience makes Cube 63 worth the visit.

amazing, tasty, byo, great value. Just some words to describe my numerous visits to cube 63. The owners, and chefs, Ben and Ken are not only masterful chefs but entertainers in their own right, making you feel as if they were cooking for you in their own home. Make a visit and judge for yourself!

What a find!I'm originally from the area and boy has it changed. Clinton Street is restaurant row now with many new comers. My husband and I love sushi and decided to give this place a try. Boy did we love it! Although we did not have a reservation for Fri, we sat at the sushi bar and truly had a wonderful experience! Chefs are great! Very funny. Sushi is very well presented and very fresh! We will definitely be back with a bottle in tow next time!

I found Cube 63 on City Search, and I'm so glad I decided to check this place out. This restaurant has everything: cool, relaxed atmosphere, extremely nice and knowledgable waitstaff, and some of the best sushi I've ever tasted! The food presentation here is amazing. I took two friends who were visiting from out of town to dinner here, and the three of us were delighted with our experience. I just made reservations for Friday night!

I've been here a handful of times as a couple or with a group and it absolutely shines each time. The mood is cool and relaxed. The fish is fresh, and you can't the BYOB. Grab a sixer of Sapporo and go.

Recently discovered this amazing find and have been back 3 times this month. Love the concept of BYOB and sushi! The table next to us brought bottles of greygoose and mixers...throw in some incredible and fresh sushi and it's a night to remember. The volcano roll & grilled calamari are my favorites but you can't go wrong w/ the speciality rolls. The sushi brothers are hilarious - bring them sake and you'll be their best friend. The staff are courteous, never rush you and the bill is reasonable since you can fill up on your own liquor. Oh and yes, it's a bit of a scene on the weekends...it's crowded so you need a reservation since it's a tiny spot.

Was excited to try a new japanese resteraunt in my local vicinity.
Highly recommended by city search I brought my appetite and my wallet .
by the end of the meal both were empty.
The portions were not just small they were
miniscule , the worst I've ever seen. Seriously!

Cube is a great place for sushi because it's oh so yummy and not so expensive! It's also BYOB, which I enjoy. Having been spoiled by some of the best sushi around (Blowfish Sushi in San Francisco) several restaurants disappointed us until this place. The waitstaff is always very friendly and accomodating. The ambiance is pretty nice (but it's small, and can get very loud on weekends). It attracts a younger crowd - dare I say on the preppy side. And for all the guys: last time we went it was all girls (i'm assuming single) so you might want to get in on the action.

Cube has to be one of my favorite sushi places in NYC and I've been around. I go there atleast once a week if not more. You are also getting the best bang for your buck here in the NYC sushi scene. I have never been disapointed and have been there since it has opened. Cudos to the sushi chefs and the mastermind behind this operation. Now when I go somewhere else I think to myself "We should have gone to Cube." The Dynamite apetizer is amazing, and I love the Clinton roll!
