Me and a couple buddies decided to go and were very pleasntly surprised. The server was awesome and friendly. He honored our 2 for 1drink specials even after 8pm. The food was surpisingly really good, who knew a lounge could have great food. Drinks were strong enough to give me a buzz, so that was good. I loved the decor, it had a very modern and "sex-in-the-city" feel to it.

Cons: Crowded

This used to be the most beautiful boy bar in Hell's Kitchen. Tastefully done and spacious and you just felt cool.

Not anymore.

The new flow of space is an improvement both downstairs and up and especially at the bars and the new booths... but the level of taste is absolutely dreadful.

Strange mauves, greens and blues in a bar that used to be minimal with beautiful wood tones. Now they've got golden fleur de lis wall sconces and see-through purple fleur de lis cocktail tables all topped with oversized martini glasses filled with cocktail kibble. No lie...

Not to mention the Haunted House style flickering orange candles placed in the strange new lighting fixture above the downstairs bar. It's a completely slap-dash, cheap-looking, Trading Spaces redesign. I can't believe they ruined this beautiful spot.

Is this the West Village in 1990?

After an unpleasant evening at another local Hells Kitchen Bar, this was such a nice place to hang out and get great drinks with great friendly service, The bar was very nicely air conditioned which is very hard to find in NY. The bar was so refreshing and the bartenders were so happy to be there and serve me!
This is my new favorite spot!

I used to be a big fan of Therapy years ago and routinely recommended it as the best gay bar in NYC because of the decor, the after-work professional vibe (compared to the model/waiter/i-banker looking for a toy vibe at G and XL), and the location, but the service was always lacking.

One of the groups I belong to had its holiday party there last week and a good party ended on a very sour note because of a bartender. After having bought 7 drinks and tipping $2-4 for each drink, I was a bit drunk and on the last round of three drinks was busy talking, gave the bartender, by credit card and absently forgot to include a tip. My friends and I lingered a bit as we picked up our drinks. The bartender said 'you need to move'. I said 'give us a sec' and he retorted 'this space is for people who tip, and you don't tip'. Lack of customer service, grace, or a memory aside, this isn't good business.

Cons: service

This is probably the best looking gay bar in NYC. Maybe HK caught up. Love the big communal table downstairs, bathroom is never an issue. Bar access sometimes a problem. Crowd is usually good but sometimes is dead when you wouldn't think it would be.

The crowd here is very attractive, successful, everything you want in a man. A fun place to go with friends.

Therapy is a great place to meet friends and have a few drinks. the bartenders are HOT! definately affordable and has a great dimly lit atmosphere, a little bit of what XL was just not as pretentious.

Pros: Great atmosphere

Cons: shifty eyes in the urinal

I have been to many different bars all over the world, and I can honestly say that therapy ranks high on my list. It's just a generally "cool" and "chill" place to unwind, and relax with friends; the atmosphere is very friendly, and the drinks are ok (nothing amazing though).
On weekends, it's especially nice, but can sometimes get a bit crowded.
If you're looking to dance 'til you drop, or hook up, this is NOT the place for you. But if you want a laid-back, relaxing, trendy watering hole to enjoy good music and great people, then Therapy is a MUST!

Therapy - such a disappointment. Very cool space, very un-cool crowd. The people there seem to THINK they're cool, but I'd like to assure them all that there's nothing cool about having "attitude". Boring boring boring.

Pros: cool space (purely from an architectural point of view)

Cons: dull as hell. boring people with too much attitude.

.

BORING midtown bar with additude. The best thing that could happen to this place is chapter 11. How it has lasted this long is amazing. Don't waste your time or money, too many gay bars in manhattan to be dragged down by this one.

Pros: Perhaps a hot man will walk in

Cons: The service is horrible

.

although the space is beautiful, and the clientele mostly gorgeous, after attending a party there this past Friday night, i was thoroughly disappointed in the service and with the quality of my beverage. the waiter chose to keep us waiting (for over 20 minutes for our first drink!) and was very obviously discriminating against the straight girls and guys that were with us...it was shameful.

no plans to ever go back...

I would highly recommend Therapy. The atmosphere is very warm, people are trendy, the drinks were wonderful and overall - just a great time.

therapy is a really nice bar/lounge - the design is gorgeous if somewhat impractical, most of the bartenders and waiters are all young, modelesque and friendly, and the drinks are strong and taste good. the food is a nice addition to the bar scene although could be more flavourful. the music here is quite good; we tend to go late around 10 or so, the only problem being there are "shows" earlier in the week that range from mildly disastrous to downright alienating. If you go later in the week, it's better, like Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays when it's just the DJ who spins. It is a cool performance space, but they desperately need to change the bookings. The crowd is really cute and friendly.

Trendy spot but not overtly pretentious - great spot to take your friends (gay and straight) and chill. Appetizers are pretty good, drinks are decent as well.

Therapy has quickly become my favorite gay bar. I'm a Beige / Park / Starlight / Wonderbar kinda guy, but unlike those bars, Therapy's got a great crowd every night of the week. The DJ's are fantastic, and it's wonderfully straight-friendly. A downside: because it's very much *the* place to be right now, it gets a little too crowded after midnight. Getting a drink can be tough; they could use a few more bartenders. But the vibe more than makes up for it. If you're an out of towner, make this your first stop!

This bar is such a welcome change to the new york bar scene - it's a gay bar and it's actually NICE! It's a loungy-type bar where you can take straight friends and not feel uncomfortable, because it steers clear of the meat-market type of vibe by being more of a lounge where groups go, and by having model-type young hip bartenders rather than those muscle-man atrocities you get at other gay bars. There are cocktail waiters too, who serve pretty good food. The music was different the couple of nights we went, but most nights it was really good. Only one night of really hard house, yuck. They have shows upstairs, but mostly musical theatre type stuff if youre into that.

A great looking bar with plenty of space to sit and chat while you decompress from a day in the office. A chic thirty-something clientele chat and laugh and even shout happily behind a curtain of music thats at just the right volume to maintain your privacy without forcing you to scream into your friends ear. Candles abound giving a somehow intimate feel to the place. The Martinis pack a punch and look great, the Long Island Ice Teas cost more and dont. Meet your friends there and sit in a group around one of the fantastic solid wooden tables or get more intimate with a partner in the corner of a comfy sofa. One of the best bars in NYC. A relief from the brash trash in the villge.

A bit uncomfortable standing around the walls, making it difficult to meet people. Cute bartenders that all look like teenagers. Nice schedule of events, but perhaps need more lounging and less showing.

With a loungy type of feel, Therapy successfully creates a gay bar that does not feel like a meat market. It is a bar for groups of friends to go and have a drink or two in an interesting atmosphere. Picture APT for a mostly gay set. However, this place totally has cross over potential - a gay nightspot you can comfortably bring straight friends to and not feel bad for them. Only wish they took table reservations.

In Short
It's refreshing to find a nightlife environment disappear instead of kaleidoscopically pulse like XL. Therapy's physical space is simple: The two levels are joined by a grand staircase, plain brick walls, lots of warm…
