DONT EVER EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT! IT IS TOTALLY UNHYGIENIC!
I had went there one time to purchase some indian food, and when I got home and opened up my food, a cockroach came crawling out of my plate! it was soooooo disgusting I almost threw up and when I called the restaurant to complain, the owner NITU Singh! He had cursed me off saying horrible things, I was speaking to him politely not cursing or anything and in turn he started yelling at me and cursing at me calling me horrible things. I told him I'm going to bring the food back to his restaurant to show him, he starts threatening me that if I come watch what he would do to me! So be careful DO NOT EAT THERE! I had to file a complaint through the police and better business bureau against this guy and his restaurant, be careful the managers or whoever he is, is a total psychopath and their food has insects like cockroach roaming in it.

Had lunch here one day. Very affordable for what you get. Ordered the mango lassi and the chicken tikka biryani. The mango lassi is a lot less viscous than versions I've tried elsewhere but it is still very good. The flavor is less yoghurt more mango. The chicken tikka biryani portion was very generous and full of flavor. Being a lunch-counter-style set up, service was quick. If you came during the lunch time crunch, the lack of seating area is a problem. Thankfully, people eat fast and seats can usually be found relatively quickly.

Ladies & gentlemen, this is by far -one of the best "authentic" Indian food that I've had in NYC! If you don't like long cafeteria-style lines or a packed house w/ limited seating, then stop-by AFTER 1:30pm because this place is a ZOO during peak lunch hours! I usually go after 2pm and can comfortable enjoy my usual Tikki Masala, rice & naan + fresh green peppers! Yummy!!

What I enjoy the most about this restaurant is that not only do they deliver, but they have a service set up where you can order online! That is very unique for any Indian restaurant. Not only that, but you can place your order online and once you get there you will get your warm food right away. Even if your late, your food will still be warm! It's amazing service and delicious food. I really recommend that every one try this place atleast once!

So I work in midtown and have now gone to a bunch of indian restaurants for lunch. I get a craving once in a while Well, I walked right by this place a few times no realizing it is indian food. Today, I walked by and looked in and saw about 30 people all lined up for the food. I got an order of Chicken Tikka Masala with rice, Naan, and an order of samosas for less than 10 bucks. It is really good food and for that price it is certainly just as good if not better than some of the restaurants I have gone in and paid twice that for. The only difference is that it is cafeteria style so if you like being waited on, it is not the place. If you want Indian and fast especially to go, this IS the place. I am taking one star off for ambiance...but who needs that for lunch anyway?

This place is perfect for a quick, cheap, tasty, homestyle Indian meal. Yes I am Indian and so I can say that with confidence.
It is simple and small and the staff is very friendly. I work in the area so I've only been there for lunch and can't speak for the dinner. As opposed to the other simple Indian eateries I have tried in the city, this one is clean and the food is not greasy. This is now my favorite little Indian eatery and I highly recommend it.

I like this place even for meeting a friend or two (or more) before a movie or something, because it's so cheap and casual and the food is so good, that as long as you're not trying to impress someone this is sort of a perfect Indian place in the wasteland of its surroundings. Granted, the place has zero atmosphere, but the staff was really nice, and there's plenty of seating. I work in Times Square and I was so pleased to find an incredibly cheap and tasty restaurant with a variety of options on the menu. I'm quite sure it's the best value east of 9th Ave. in midtown.

Pros: really tasty, really cheap, nothing comparable in the area

Cons: no ambience, paper plates

Minar is a tiny place more for people who work nearby and want a quick lunch. No service, no ambience. You have to get a platter of food, just like in a food court. They also have menu options, and the food is very very good. It tastes like homemade Indian food (I am Indian, so I know). I would not recommend their samosa chat, though. But the food is delicious, and perfect for a quick meal, especially lunch. If you do try out the food in their menu, the mysore masala dosa is ultra spicy (yummy!), so beware! And it is very cheap.
