People don't come here for a lot of drinks, people come here to see some of NY's well-known hip hop DJs and artists. From Premo, Scratch, Pete Rock and others, most people that come to APT are there for them.

The entrance is hidden and obscure but once you're in you feel like you're in an APT (apartment).

Downstairs usually has a cover after 10pm but if its a good DJ it's usually worth it. The crowd on Mondays and weekends is generally chill and there just to hear some good beats.

Downstairs, where they play music that's not quite as lame as the music upstairs, is just filthy. My friend stepped on gum, and I stepped on gum TWICE. The DJ couldn't keep a steady beat between changes and played stuff that was half a xylophone away from elevator music. And a $10 cover!?!? Puh-lease. There are plenty of clean, high-class clubs that don't charge anything at the door. The diner across the street played better music, and their DJ knew what he was doing. And it was cleaner.

On June 15 my wife and I went to check out DJ Premier. We were super excited to check him out and when we got there at 11:00pm, the place was closed and locked up! There were a few disgruntled people hanging out around there so I asked them what was up and they said someone from APT came out and told them that they had to close for the night because the dishwasher broke! HUH!?!?! I suspect that there were other reasons they were closed - like a health code violation. The city has been crackin down on clubs but they don't want to let people know. We were so dumbfounded that they were closed that we called the number (still standing outside the door) and someone answered and said "We're closed. Come back tomorrow."! Like I was about to waste my time and money again! I actually got off of work to check out DJ Premier and took an hour train ride down to the meatpacking district!! So lame!! APT is so lame that they can't even post on their website or AT LEAST put a sign on the door saying they are closed - you have to ask people on the street what is up. I have been there about 5 times before and it was cool with great DJs but after this, I will never go there again. There are enough other places that are cool that care about their customers.

I would reccomend going to this club on Wednesday nights!!! I know....its a week day for you people who work BUT it will be worth it BC everybody else in the club on a WED. is in the same situation and sacrifice the sleep for the GREAT MUSIC!!!! And its all bc of DJ Rich MEdina!!! I went this club with a friend who goes faithfully every Wed. and knows people who work at the club (maybe thats why I didnt have a problem at the door like others have had) but we got there particularly early...so i would suggest first timers to go early ....the first level is a nice spot to lounge and have a glass of wine with a group of friends you are trying to get to know better...BUT downstairs is definitely for the single people who want to dance and enjoy GREAT MUSIC....NEW...and CLASSIC hip hop to OLD SCHOOL songs like a track that your parents would listen to...like the original 'Juicy' .....not to mention a touch of Jill Scott....THe CROWD was a great mix of cute ladies from all races with a trendy yet casual style......you'll also see your average white boy to your European to your reggie lover to your classic 'dope' boy..overall, classy and chill crowd....It can get crowded down stairs but the MUSIC is sooo DOPE you wont even care...WEDNESDAY NIGHTS!!!! its worth it!!! I have gone to a few clubs in NYC but this was BY FAR the BEST CLUB EXPERIENCE I've had EVER!!! Key to having a good time ANYWHERE...find a GREAT DJ....and FOLLOW HIM where ever he spins!!! DJS make all the difference!!!!

The neighborhood has many fun, new clubs and bars, however APT is not one of them. Firstly, APT has over the top security measures, which I appreciated at first, until a basic body and bag search turned into an inappropriate frisk, and accusations of criminal intent! They confiscated and would not return my spare cell phone battery, deeming it "dangerous"! Some guy, whom the bartender told me was a regular, rudely shoved me while heading to the bathroom. When he was urged to apologize, he touched me improperly. The drinks were sort of expensive (~$12), too. The bouncer told me cops came into the place to investigate something earlier, and I saw FDNY inside. This place isn't safe or fun, management and employees rude and unseasonable, and I have filed a formal complaint. I suggest you don't visit this place, especially when it's surrounded by many fine places.

I recently attended a friend's birthday party there. I had no problem getting in and the staff were very helpful. There was a great band tons of dancing and I had lots of fun. I recomend having a party there or a get together with friends. APT is moderately priced, considering the hood, tasty drinks, good music, and intimate place without all the hype. They also have great chocolate cake, it is real good with a glass of red wine.

I looked into this spot to host my next social networking event! The members of NetMixer are held to a certain standard and APT has that. I will be hosting there regularly. check us out at Netmixer-events dot com

After having partied myself almost to death during the earlier part of this decade I can't even stand to look down 27th street; APT is the only spot I visited then that still holds any charm for me now. Upstairs is still more of a lounge and less of a scene and downstairs people still dance. Nice. And the door is still drama-free.

Honestly the worse service of New York City.... 10$ cover aggressively required, rude staff, reservation cancelled... no need to tell you more

Headed over to APT last tuesday to see a dj and had the best time. I generally try to avoid the meatpacking district and had heard a couple of questionable things about APT but had no problems and a blast. The people at the door seemed nice and professional, ended up going downstairs first and stayed almost two hours before going up for a smoke. The music was amazing, everyone really nice. the bartenders seemed super cool and nice, even bought me a shot. Definetly changed my perception of the place. I'd heard they changed some staff and management very recently so maybe that was the difference but overall, it was great.

I have been going to APT for over 3 years & it's just getting better!
Although the area around it is changing for the worse APT still is a staple with great music and a stylish crowd.
I was surprised to read people commenting negatively about the staff, I've never had any issues with them myself. I highly recommend this place early evening for a date or to party till the wee hours.

APT is a chill and reasonably priced bar for the area of the Meatpacking. I particularly enjoy DJ Akelepse who will spin a great blend lightly known hip hop artists such as Dilla with a soft touch of true old school. They do a decent job of booking downstairs, if you're a true music aficionado I recommend Cielo. Besides a few nice, respectable doormen and bartenders it is unexpectedly staffed with a few extremely rude and inconsiderate doormen as well as terribly unprofessional and pretentious weekend promoters. I am also a bartender/server/sommelier and extremely familiar with the industry, and these service industry workers are everything short of hospitable. Someone below used the term doorslob and I think it is appropriate for the situation. I definitely avoid this place on the weekends as the term ahole describes an ample amount of their staff.

THE MAIN REASON FOR POSTING: I WAS RECENTLY TURNED OFF BY YET ANOTHER DOORMAN AFTER BEING ESCORTED TO THE BASEMENT BY AN EMPLOYEE THIS DOORMAN WAS EXTREMELY RUDE HAVING ASSUMED THAT, although professionally dressed ( my day job is in finance-private equity leasing) and only one drink deep, I WAS THE TYPE OF INDIVIDUAL THAT WOULD SNEAK MY WAY IN. HE SO IRRATIONALLY STARTED YELLING AT BOTH MYSELF AND MY GUEST, WHOM I WAS INTRODUCING THE THE VENUE, PLACED HIS HANDS ON ME AND PUSHED ME BACK UP THE STAIRS (I'M SURE THIS IS ILLEGAL IN ANY SENSE OF IT) TO THE PARTICULAR EMPLOYEE TO CONFIRM THAT I AM, INDEED, OBLIGED TO BE USING THE ENTRANCE. AFTER CONFIRMATION, I WAS THEN ALLOWED BACK DOWNSTAIRS IN MY EMBARRASSMENT FOR NOT ONLY ME BUT ALSO MY GUEST. THEN, AS AN ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE THE SITUATION, I TRIED TO "MAKE FRIENDS" WITH THE DOORMAN BY INTRODUCING MYSELF AND SIGNALING THERE WOULD BE NO "HARD FEELINGS." HE IMMATURELY REFUSED TO LOOK IN MY EYES AS HE CHILDLY REFUSED TO SHAKE MY HAND.

EXTREMELY UNSOPHISTICATED and UNPOLISHED!

Ever go a long way to find a place people have been talking about and all of a sudden the hostess is rude when you ask her a simple question about letting a last minute guest on your guestlist? What garbage this place and a waste of time. The hostess didn't even look me in the eye and people are treated left and right like 2nd class citizens. It ruined my entire night and I tell you I'm NEVER going back there. Place has potential but why bother when no one is friendly. DO NOT go here. Spend your money somewhere else. You've been warned. *Raises glass of champagne* Here's to the #*#@(@ hostess! :)

We had a birthday party there recently and it was a total rip-off. We were told by the APT party planner a certian price then when the bill came, it was $1500 more. On top of that, several people got things stolen out of their bags or from our table. Our waiter was rude. Our bill looks suspiscious. The music and atmosphere sucked. I ould not recommend this place to anyone.

What best way to ruin your birthday but be scammed at a venue that isn't even that great? I had my birthday party here and had a horrible time. When i made the reservations, i asked if there would be dancing and music. I was told that people go there just for the music. Not so much. And the waiter - Brandon - was very very rude to me and my friends all night long. And then the bill came and he claimed we drank 12 bottles of alcohol. 12 bottles? And he put random charges, like beers and shots, on our tabs. We were there for bottle service and I saw 3 bottles the whole night. Where 3 bottles turned into 12, not sure. BUT THEY WILL SCAM YOU!!! TELL EVERYONE, APT IS A SCAM!!!!!!

I've been there quite a few times. Great place, I like the bar. Good drinks. Not pricey for meatpacking. Doorman was usual. Music was fantastic! Food is getting better and better. I'm aware that they have changed menus recently a few times. Staff is good. I'm a smoker so the outdoor space is key, especially because I can walk out side with my drink. Great place for private parties and Thursday, Fri and Sat. I would bring any of my people here.

Went on a Saturday night and had an okay time. Only got in because we were with some quasi-celeb. Once inside it is very small and crowded. Downstairs is even more crowded and the people are less than what would be expected. Stayed upstairs the rest of the time, then left to go somewhere else. Went back later to end up the night and the pretentious doorslob pretended not to remember us (when she was so overly nice and accomodating when I was with the quasi-celeb earlier). It was an okay time but i wouldnt rush to go back.

APT was a great stand by years ago; I could always count on having a nice time and good house music downstairs. I had not been there recently until Memorial Day weekend where I was told that there was a private party and I could not come in.

Another group I was with ended up in meatpacking again a few Saturdays ago and we decided to grab a drink at APT and were told by a huffy queen that there was another private party. I don't know what is going on with their door, but I will not be coming back to APT.

Normally I love a tough door, as my friends and I never have any difficulty getting in. Maybe they were having private parties, but I doubt it. APT needs to rethink their door strategy and quickly fire that hostess.

Forget it. If it is that hard to get into the door on a Thursday night at 10.15pm it's not even worth checking it out. I've been there before several times but never been treated like a 2nd class citizen!

Usually I don't go to the MPD because of all the velvet-rope door drama, etc. Even though I had reservations, I decided to follow the recommendation of a friend and have my BF's b-day party at APT last Saturday and I was pleasantly surprised! I would definitely go there again. I made a reservation in advance--the girl on the phone was very pleasant and courteous and told me about the table minimums, etc for larger parties. As promised, my guests and I had no door drama...actually, everyone except a few who had already been there, walked right by it at first! There were about 10-15 of us and we were seated in a nice area so that we could all mingle without being on top of one another or standing. Also, the host was very accomodating and pleasant. EXCEPT it was supposed to be a surprise (which one of our guests had told him in advance) and he still gave it away when we arrived by telling us how many were already at the table! No biggie, but if youre planning a surprise, I'd recommend that you call ahead. The drinks were pretty good and the waitress was very attentive. I did wish the DJ had started a wee bit earlier. As the night progressed it did get pretty crowded, but not enough to turn me off.

This place used to be pretty good when it first opened - good vibe, music, drinks, crowd. (The downstairs, however, has always suffered from space problems. Who wants to dance in a walkway?) Within a year, I started noticing dorky professionals downstairs, standing in the corner, blabbering over the music and trying to pick up on any female that walks by. Dance, smile, move your body! The upstairs WAS a reliable place to bring someone to have a quiet drink (a $11 glass of wine), but the furniture there started getting...dirty...and it started to get overrun by unattractive drunk girls. The staff started getting ruder - and now they have Tweedledumbers guarding the gates. Pretty soon the DJs will notice that the place is full of posers, and they will start going elsewhere.

The place is really nice and relaxed. Great atmosphere and trendy crowd. I will say, the top floor seems to be more for group of friends (a bit clickish) Comfortable couches. The downstaris has a little open space used as a dance floor. Good music. But before you go you may want to call and get on a gueslist. On weekends this place tends to get packed.

My experience at this hole started with the attitude at the door, that doesn't work for me --I gave the attitude right back to the wannabe screening people at the door, who thinks his job to be very important -- I got right in and I'm glad I did, cause I'll never go back. I live in the neighborhood and I'm from this city and this place is over-rated, over-hyped and needs to be over-looked. Allegedly, a chic, hip and "in" New York crowd is what you'll find, well, that's a lie. What you'll experience is a bunch of has-been wannabes who are tired of living in their nyc cell-block apts and unleash their fury by dressing up, going out and being obnoxious and that's just the staff. As for the vibe, there isn't one -- everyone is just trying to out-do everyone else, BORING!!! Drinks - expensive Ambiance - not really Attitude - lots. So, if you're looking
for a good time and a secret new place to hang with your friends, GO ELSEWHERE!!!

As for the vibe, there isn't one -- everyone is just trying to out-do everyone else, BORING!!! Drinks - expensive Ambiance - not really Attitude - lots. So, if you're looking
for a good time and a secret new place to hang with your friends, GO ELSEWHERE!!!

Pros: It's out of everyone's way

Cons: It's out of everyone's way

WOW that is all i can say, people who critize APT it is because they didnt let them in, gave them looks or attitude to get in. Well it must have been either because you are not good looking, getto, trashy or not qualified...get over it. APT it is rich, no trouble going in what so ever, great customer service specially the talented and sophisticated Irish bartender. The decor is simply vouyeuristic. Love the fact that they are selective in who gets in. Why? simply fashion statements. There could be (like last night) from models, 4 japanese guys showing off they're Fukijama's with dance moves, 4 white guys who looked like they just come out from a very important meeting, girls dressed from Marc to very chic h&m (but very well put together), a girl with an amazing 25000 watch from Jacob the jeweler with no makeup on but great hair do. It wasnt that crowded which made the scene very clean and simple. The music i might say i was very entertained, from soft beats like Femi Kuti to a little bit of seb fontaine beats. No Fergie, justin timberlake, madonna, paris hilton or rap whatsever. And if you go to the meatpacking district you should know better what to expect, Ive been coming to NYc for the past 5 years and i finally decided to relocate and have always known about the attitude and prices. If you are not fit fashionably, speak proper and bring the cash just dont go, NY it is pretty big and there are plenty of bars and clubs where you can get on the subway and spend your 20 bucks on 3 beers.

We reserved a table and the manager was acting really nice had said that we would just have to meet a minimum of $350 for the night. We said that was fine, but when we got there they told us that with each additional person we had to add $35 to our tab, which made our tab $550. We argued about it for a while and they were being very rude. They wouldn't let in some of our friends waiting outside in for a long time, even though they promised that we could walk right in with the reservation. The place is small and it wasnt even crowded, they were just making people wait for no reason. Our bill somehow ended up being $800. they probably charged us extra. Very bad experience, the manager was obviously out for our money. the waiter was nice, though.

She is not dead! She works the door at APT. Despite being well dressed and clearly a sophisticated group (including two stunning ladies), we were severely snubbed at the door with the played-out "private party" garbage - until we mentioned that we knew the manager and dropped his name like a house falling from the sky. Only then we were allowed to enter but it was as if we had spilled water on the wicked witch and melted her down. Curses!! Once inside the sacred lair, which was no where near full, we were aghast at the very young, badly dressed hip-hop wannabe crowd. There were so many walking clichés it was actually funny. (White and Asian kids with over-sized baseball caps, sports / logo jerseys and several giant bling necklaces.) The gracious waiter and friendly hostess could not make up for the horrible music either. We passed on the downstairs (which was now $8) as we were told that there was no dancing downstairs. We were the best-dressed and coolest people in the place - and I don't say that often. We stayed for one drink and ran out. What the hell happened here? I thought the purpose of a tough door policy was too keep THEM out and US in? APT is dead. Long live The wicked witch!

This spot is for sappy NYC wannabes that need to be told what to do by review magazines. I went there with a few friends one time. It was $12.00 for Taylor Port the cheapest wine on the market. The bar tender told me that was the only port they had. Then everyone is sitting on beds listening to that bad music. Why wouldn't I just stay at home I have a matress, bad music and cheap wine at home.

Again and again, I give this old favorite of mine another chance and it always disappoints me! This Saturday night I stopped by again and it was horrible. They were charging $6 to go downstairs where it looked like it might be a little better than upstairs but $6 are they kidding me? I know it's only $6 but it's the principal! And the girl who works the door acts like this is the opening of BED on an episode of Sx and the City - I mean, come on this is APT and it's dreadfully awful! Don't waste your time!

Pros: Location

Cons: Staff, Value

.

The place itself is fine but the staff is the rudest people I have ever encountered in a NYC bar. The drink and food menu is SMALL, the prices are on the high side for a place that was popular two years ago but really isnt hot anymore. There are so many places in the area that are trendier, have cooler people and music, a better drink menu and dont have the HORRIBLE staff this place has. The staff at this place is disorganized, more interested in talking to each other then serving customers. As many other people have posted the people at the door are ridiculous, rude and seem to try to be nasty for kicks.

My one night at APT was average, the decor and ambiance was nice. That particular night there was a strange crowd, but the music was great. The doorman gave us a little bit of trouble but he let us in. Not fantastic but not bad.

I visited NYC in February for the first time. This was the first lounge we went to. I LOVED IT. The crowd was cool and energetic, but not dancing on tables. The drinks were fantastic and the caviar-laced dip is really cool touch. All in all- a great experience. I'm definitely going back on my next visit to NYC- which hopefully will be soon.

Pros: no cover, rotating DJs, hidden

Cons: expensive drinks, hidden

APT is housed in a nondescript building that belies the true treasure hidden beyond its doors. This is a very romantic and low-key spot perfect for getting to know that special someone. The drinks are strong and the food is delicious, but don't expect huge portions.

I went to APT last night with some girlfriends for my roommate's birthday. the girl at the door let us girls in, but gave us an extremely unneccessary attitude when a few guy friends of ours showed up after us, and with no explantion refused to let them in. the club was EMPTY and the music was so so and the entire scene was lame. we left after an hour and i have to say that i will NEVER go back to this club. having to deal with the rudeness of the girl at the door put a damper on our whole evening.

A bunch of girls went there on Friday night to have a fun night out. We called the day before to make reservations and the guy on the phone said just come by and it should be no problem. We got there and the 2 people at the door said no and gave us a TON of attitude even after telling themwe made reservations. Very nasty and very disappointing. Just for that I would not ever go back. If you go be sure u know who u spoke to!! Sheer waste of time!

Incredible bar/club. Very cosmopolitan crowd and very friendly crowd which is rare these days. Bar service was prompt and the drinks were all good. The lounge bar is perfect for a quieter drink whilst those looking for a dance can head downstairs where the music was great. Only downside to the whole experience was the lack of restrooms. Otherwise, one of the best nights i've had out in town.

I thought there would be problems with the door people but we had no problem (in fact they were pretty nice to us considering we had more people than what was on the list). The decor is decent upstairs but the downstairs lounge is not only visually appealing the DJs are great. Crowd was unpretentious, surprisingly.

Not as hot as in it's "Glory Days", Apt. is still holding on with a loyal following of people who know where to find good company and great music. The door is still selective, letting in those who are regulars or "urban chic". So what if we lost those "club of the month" bottled blondes...we still have James Brown!

I decided to take my friends here who had come to run in the marathon. I thought this would be a cool place to go on a Sunday but i was shoicked when we got there! There was no line and the door man said thgat we couldn;t come in, when asked why he didn;t have a reasonable explanation. We were a nice looking crowd, with an even ration of girls and boys. I couldn;t understand whatr his problem was, i mean it it was Sunday, come on!!! Shame on you. Very disapointed!

I used to love the downstairs space - sweet glowing fake wood walls. But door keepers haven't kept up with reality - they made me wait and wait at 1:00 AM and when I finally got in, the place was empty! Helloooooo!! Someone clue them in, it's a waste of my time.

I came here on a Thursday night and was harassed at the door about if I had a reservation. That's fine until when I did get in, there was NOONE there. What's the big hype? The drinks were super over priced and watered down. The place was beautiful but everyone there was pretty cheesy looking. There are a million other lounges in New York, go to another one. Try the one in the Hudson Hotel.

I went there because a friend of a friend was a DJ downstairs, I was rude-ly told that there was a cover charge of 5 dollars. Once I got downstairs , I was surprised to see the set-up of the place, everyone was pushed to either side, amazing music was playing, but no-one wanted/could dance anywhere. I didn't really think that the place lived up to the expectations.

I used LOVE this place. This past weekend my girlfriends and I had the worst time ever. They now charge to go downstairs. Upstairs the staff is rude. Not knowing that the tables were reserved, the waitress came by & dropped a table tent card stated that if we want a table see the hostess & walked away never speaking to us. This guy, decided to be rude & told us we needed to move because it was reserved. When we didn't move at that moment he decided to pull the table away from us. We moved to an area with no table service. Later he comes back, tell us we need to move to make room for another party. Afterwards talking to a supervisor about this guy's treatment of us he started yelling, telling us that we need to leave and never come back. WHAT HAPPENED TO MY APT.

The room is nothing special, and the way they treat you at the door would lead you to think that it was. The folks inside were much better, but there are a few better choices in the area.

I must say that my experience at APT was phenomenal! We were greeted by a very friendly door girl who welcomed us although we had no reservation. Drinks are good and the service is exceptional. The scene is trendy and hip, filled with interesting locals. We met some "unforgettables" at APT. I had a great time in the bed! I will be back in March.

Pros: gorgeous bar, no cover

Last night, I called APT to see if there was a cover and/or a private party. Literally, minutes later, I arrived and the door person and bouncer informed me and my girlfriends that only persons on the private party guestlist would be admitted.

I informed them that the phone person had told me there would be no problems entering.

Months earlier, I asked some friends to join me there on my birthday. I called a few days in advance to check if there was a private party. Again, I told, 'no problem.' However, on my birthday night, my friends arrived before me and called me saying they couldn't get in due to a private party and I had to scramble to find an alternate location. They need to stop promising people one thing, only to provide another. Or hold to their word. NEVER AGAIN!
