I've cut my hair in all the major cities (NYC, LA, Boston, etc), and I've spent as much as $150 for a cut and style at other salons, and nothing...I mean NOTHING...beats the hair cut I received at City Style by Jemima (I think that's how you spell it).

Pros: Amazing

Cons: None --- Well....Parking...But its Ithaca

.

New to Ithaca, I booked an appointment for a cut on the spur of the moment. Naomi, my assigned stylist, did a great job on my rounded bob. Precise, good blending of layers. I liked that she did not talk much as she was cutting; IMHO that's a good sign that the stylist is concentrating on the work. I also like that she did not try to sell me any expensive products.

One quibble: I would have preferred that she take a little longer to talk to me at the beginning, before cutting, to ask about my hair likes and dislikes, and perhaps offer some suggestions for variations on the bob that would look good on me and fit with my lifestyle. My appointment was in the A.M., and no one else was waiting, so it is not as if she had to rush.

I also wish I had been able to find pictures to give her a better idea of what I wanted. Stylists are usually "visual" people.

The atmosphere is hip and trendy, but don't let that put you off if you are over 30 and need a more "conservative" or professional look. My $35 plus tip was well spent, and I will go back.

Pros: skilled stylists, upbeat atmosphere, trendy but not snooty

Cons: nothing major; parking can be an issue
