I've always had a nice experience in this nail salon, but today it was terrible. The woman rushed through my manicure and pedicure and as she was scrubbing my feet she dropped the brush and just decided she was done instead of finishing the job. She slapped lotion on my legs and hands and provided no massage, normally they are very thorough. Then when I provided a smaller tip 11% she had the nerve to come up to me and say the standard tip 15 to 20% and reached into my bag to hand me my wallet; completely unprofessional

I?ve been to Nail Niobe quite a few times over the past several years and always had a good experience. Yesterday, I went in for a manicure and pedicure and the experience was less then satisfactory. The woman raced through my manicure and pedicure and when she was scrubbing my feet dropped the brush on the floor and decided instead of getting a new brush she was done after spending all of 10 seconds on each foot. The massage on my hands and feet was obligatory at best, more like slapping lotion on my legs and hands and calling it a day. Being unsatisfied with my service I tipped 11% and after I received a 10 minutes shoulder massage the woman came up to me and expressed to dissatisfaction in her tip and said that standard tipping is 15-20% after a few words she reached for my wallet in my bag and handed it to me for more money. I?m extremely disappointed in the service of the salon and will never return or recommend it to my friends.

I go to Niobe because it is close to where I work. It isn't my favorite nail salon in NYC, but it isn't terrible either. They do a decent enough job. The store is clean, if not a little crowded. I have had had my eyebrows waxed there as well without problems. They have a 2nd story view of 34th Street. It is nice to watch people walk by as you get your pedicure.

I have used many nail salons in the city in the past 6 years and my experience with this Nail Niobe salon this past Saturday was by far the absolute worst. I went into the salon for a simple manicure and pedicure. At a cost of $35 for the combination, I expected a decent foot and/or hand massage - but what I received was obligatory at best. The salon was not crowded but the technician rushed through the job as if there were 10 people waiting to be serviced. Finally, and the absolute worst part of the experience, was that the technician complained about the fact that I tipped her 15% instead of 20%, which she claimed was customary and expected. When I pointed out that she cut me with her rough nail filing technique she continued to complain that she should still receive a better tip and asked me if that was the way I normally tipped. When I told her I tipped in relation to my service her face took on an annoyed expression and she rushed through the polish portion and complained to the other technicians (albeit in their own native language). I was flabbergasted by this technician's audacity, by the lack of service and by the condition of the salon - I saw one technician throw the remains of the liquid in her carry-all cup into the basin used for pedicures. I would never use this salon again and would not recommend it to anyone else.

Pros: Good selection of nail polish

Cons: Atrocious service, horrible environment
