Have been here numerous times for lunch and each time its better and better. The wait staff is friendly and curtious the atmosphere is tranquil and enjoyed by all. They also a lunch price fix but the prices are extremely resonable for the area and the restaurant itself. The food is delicious.

We had a wonderful Valentine's dinner there. The seafood, while a bit expensive, was wonderful. Octopus, squid and whole fish were delicious. Our server was very nice but she should not have been working in this place, yet. Still too green. She had help from the wine captain and the floor manager so it was not a disaster but just a bit too many times craning my head to see where xxx was (water, wine, food, dessert menu, etc.)

We will return. Highly recommend a coupon at restaurantdotcom. We saved $50 off the bill with wine!

I had never dined at Kellari and decided to try. We were a party of 8 with reservations for 6pm. Arrived early and had cocktails at the bar. The bar offers a selection of Greek olives, crackers, dips and cheeses to munch on while enjoying a cocktail of your choice. The Sangria (Red or White) is excellent.

Dinner was nice - very traditional Greek menu which means alot of fish. This is definately not the place for a non-seafood eater. There is 1 chicken dish, 1 steak dish and 1 lamb dish offered. A few of us commented that the entrees seemd below par in comparison to the appetizers offered. The salmon entree, while very fresh and delicious could have been warmer upon presentation and an Ozo and seafood dish had clams that were not cleaned properly so you had "grit" and there were "broken clam" shells in the pasta. Fortunately I had my glasses on so I could pick out the bits of shell.

Should we have told the server; probably. But everything else was fine.

Personally I would not return here for dinner only due to the lack of "non-seafood" offerings. However I definately would like to return for cocktails and appetizers at the bar with friends.

I am being slight dramatic its true - I've frequented this for lunch as the $25 pre fix is pretty good value and tasty for a slightly fancier midtown place. The dinner situation is pleasant but the pricing got waaay out of control. I think the vino was by the glass at north of $13 perhaps (rather steep) and where we really got hosed was the fish - the best fish in greece we were told and if you buy it, it serves two - its $35 a lb or so, waiter confirmed we'd get a pound or thereabouts. Bill comes and the fish was $78!! without tax or tip - it was nice I suppose but for that money you should be getting a plate full of fecking kobe fillet with gold leaf bernaise I reckon as opposed to a lightly grilled piece of greek haddock with chips (okay, quite nice lemon roasted juliened potatoes - $180 total for this meal where we shared the main course was ridiculous - I'll be back but only for lunch and only b/c I was on expenses. Overall the servers were a bit bewildered. I was waiting for someone to join me for about 10 mins and 2 different people tried to steal my soon to arrive dining partners place setting - one of them tried twice despite my protests! A sequence of may 10 people in total attended to us which seemed very inefficient and didn't really make one feel like one was receiving "good" service - rather served to discombobulate the whole thing.....

Kellari has delicious and fresh seafood. The restaurant itself is beautiful and conveniently located near Grand Central Station. I can't think of a bad thing to say about Kellari. I'd definitely go back.

A waiter took my order and disappeared. After 20 minutes I called over another person who when I asked where was my waiter they promptly brought me a dessert menu. That was just the beginning but the bottom line is the food is not worth the price. If you are not a New Yorker you will probably think it is wonderful due to the decor and better than average menu. But as a New Yorker I can tell you that there is better in this city and at half the price. After an ok meal, I once again asked where my waiter went; I never did get an answer. You want good greek food go to Astoria.

Went here with a group of people for lunch. Had the prix-fixe. Good bargain, compared to other nyc restaurants. Everything was very fresh (fish was excellent). Baklava was very good. Satisfying and fulfilling meal. Will go back.

If you want good seafood and great drinks this is your place. I eat fish daily and have trouble finding good places in NY. It gives you a romantic dinning. I loved the Sea Bass. Excelent drinks!!! Good service. I can't wait to go back

As we stepped in the door, a large Greek man sitting at the bar welcomed us in. We must have looked out of place, he said 'Come on in, have a drink!'. This place was gorgeous- beautiful colors, dramatic draperies and fabrics, warm lighting, minimal but modern decor. The service was a little slow, but friendly. The wine list was interesting- a lot of wines I didn't recognize. I don't even remember what I ordered, but my glass was only $8. Not too bad. I'm not sure if I would go back, the menu wasn't easy to understand or recognize. We could have used a little assistance

We've been here a couple of times now and won't be back. First time it was costly but food was ok, last time food was mediocre and therefore way overpriced. Service is friendly but slow and extremely uninformed. No reason to go here.

It was close to the theatre, sounded good. Was overwhelmed by the food!
The pre-theatre menu is such a phenomenal deal. The surprise was the extraordinary food.
The grilled calamari, the grilled sardines...over the top. And a whole fish was just unbelievable.
On the two recent occasions I ate there, the servers were just so helpful, with a lot of extra attention.
All the staff was just wonderful. I plan to eat there many times.

By far one of my favorite places to eat in the city. I've been coming here about once a week since I first found out about this place a few months back. Everything me and my friends have ever ordered has exceeded our expectations from appetizers, entrees, and desserts, to the wine list. The staff is very friendly and attentive, but not at all bothersome. The atmosphere and decor are wonderful. While I do not enjoy seafood, all of my friends have told me they have the best seafood in the city. There is absolutely no reason not to go here. I've recently expanded my horizons to their sister restaurant , Kellari's Parea, which is equally as good, smaller, more intimate, and a bit more casual.

KT was quite an experience. Had my mother's 70th birthday dinner there and she as well as the other guest were quite impressed. The appetizers were amazing as well as the snapper (most guest had). The lamb riblets were most succulent as it fell right off the bone. Everyone raved over the eggplant and zucchini chips. The host and wait staff were very attentive and not over bearing. Not too loud, that you couldn't hear your dinner mates. (We were at the huge table in the back - which was gorgeous, by the way - that could accomodate about 15 ppl). I would very much recommend as place to carry a date, or have a larger function (10+ ppl) Loved it! Had a wonderful time!! Will go again!

My friend I visited Kellari in November 2007 on our last day in New York. In fact it was our last supper there. We experienced the most friendliest service and recpetion than anywhere esle in NY. Safien the bar manager was a star. As we left I mentioned that there was one saying which I thought you should get printed and put up behind the bar.

"Years, Lover and Glasses of wine are things that should never be counted." Safien promised to have it and placed behind the bar.

Go and see if he has kept his word.

I went there last night with a good friend from college and we got a bunch of appetizers instead of entrees. The veggie "chips" were great (most things fried are), the meatballs were savory and better than I expected, the rice and spinach mostly made of spinach and tasty, and the Greek salad a delicious bowl of tomato chunks, feta, and spices. I was not so impressed with the Kellari oregano French fries, nothing special. We got a bottle of Greek Cabernet Sauvignon that was very enjoyable. With the wine and tip the bill was a little over $60 each, not too extravagant for an occasional splurge. I'd like to go there again sometime soon!

There's nothing bad I can say about this place. I only wish it was cheaper so I could go once a week (though I did over the holidays). The food I fantastic, the waitstaff knowledgable and charming. They have the best oysters in the city (forget what you hear about Marlowe & sons). The wine selection is fantastic.

In a town where the standard is high for good Greek food, Kellari stands out. An army of male servers hustle all around you with the quickest service I have ever seen. The bar is almost always full with folks wating for a table. Their seafood is the best in town. Some meat dishes they have are huge and cooked to perfection. Very few have room for dessert here but the desserts are made in house and should not be missed. Good wine list with many Greek and domestic selections by the glass.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the amount and quality of food and service. I'm always a bit skeptical of dining in midtown but this place is really worth trying. The portions are sizeable, wine is priced very reasonably, service is so friendly and helpful and the lighting is perfect! An all around great experience. I can't wait to go again!

Walking into Kellari, it was a surprise. A pleasent one. Its really large, spacious, with tall ceilings. I did't get a sense of Greece, more of a Tuscan kinda feel, with dark heavy wood overtones, but still nice. So we all go to a restaurant for food, right? Well, it was great. A Greek dinner always starts out with a large amount of "mezedes" (appetizers). The salad (xoriatiki) with excellent farm tomatoes, oysters, octapus, tzatziki, and grilled calamari (not a favorite on the table, but good). The saganaki was served much later, as the waiter forgot (hey, we're all human), also good, a bit too salty. As for the main course, at a Greek restaurant, always order whole fish, especially if it is imported. The "Lavraki", or mediteranian sea bass, was exceptional. So overall, the food, what is most important, was very good. The only dissappointment was our waiter who seemed unhappy all evening and almost annoyed to serve a table of 6. I would go again and hope for better service!

Living in a diverse city such as New York it is hard to make a good food choice and a restaurant like "Kellari" it is rare to find. I had an amazing experience at Kellari Taverna one Friday night starting at the hospitability of the staff and the food which was so fresh and delicious.
This cozy restaurant is right in the center of the most famous city, New York. It is classy and romantic place with a combination of old tradition with the new one.Kellari offers many jewels of the sea"fish", meat for meat lovers, and delicacies for vegetarian without forgetting Wine that adds a meaning to this Wine Cellar or Kellari.
Go to Kellari and you will thank me!!!

Hands down the best greek restaurant in the city. Just walking in and taking it all in you know you're in for something special. The decor combines modern sensibility with a rustic warmth and I was impressed by how it all works together. Over all dinner was just amazing but to me the winner was my appetizer; the sea bass fritters with the garlic mousse and beets should be an entree!

This is one of the best Greek restaurants i have visited in Manhattan. The decor is beautiful, service is decent, but most importantly...the food is amazing. Very very fresh fish and a great selection of mezze. They also give you lots of extras, when you first sit down you are served a great red pepper spread and and endless supply of rosmary infused olives...and the bread is really amazing...an atkins followers worst nightmare. When you leave they have a selection of cookies and tasty treats. I would strongly recommend this restaurant and plan on visiting again very soon!

A nice surprise. We were looking for a decent place to eat and discuss work, and Kellari has improved since I was last there! The place has done a complete 180 from food to service to hospitality. Walking in, hostesses were polite and accomodating. We ordered a bolttle of Gaia (it was recommended by one of the managers), and it went perfect with our meal. We had the Mediterranean snapper and the lamb chops after the langustines appetizer.. Everything came out in good time, which was nice because we ate and then had time to go over some business plans. There was no worrying about service or oders coming out wrong --- the staff was efficient, professional, and kind--- even though the resturant seemed to have a busy turnover.

The best restaurant in Manhattan is Kellari for sure. The very fresh fish and the friendly atmosphaire, are the strong point of this restaurant. I went there with my friends and it was unbelievable great. My friends and I like fish and good wine. Both of those are plenty of there and specially the wines. There is a long wine list and the server right next to you, to explain what is the better for any occasion.
Also the decoration there is something amazing. The big mirrors, the tables, the candles and the full bar, are much more of any expectation.
I strongly reccomending this beautiful and exciting place.

My wife and I definitely enjoyed this beautiful greek restaurant in mid-town theater district. The pre-fixe dinner menu was a surprisingly good value. I enjoyed fresh kalarmai, a whole grilled medditerranean lavraki, and fished the meal with fresh pressed yogurt with walnuts and honey and coffee. My wife enjoyed a spanakopita, which are spinich and feta filled phyllo dough pies, a generous fillet of halibut topped with feta cheese, (she loves cheese:), and finished with tea and a greek custard delicacy, Galactabourico. All this for only $29.95 was an unbeatalbe pre-theater treat. The server was also very friendly and made us feel right at home. You must try this place if you are going to the theater or shopping downtown!!!

Pros: fresh food, service, decor

Amazing!!! I was there this weekend and felt in love with this fabulous place. My girlfriend was very impressed with the nice attention and beautiful design. The excellent selection of psaria (fresh fish) was gorgeous; we had red mullets to start and they were so sweet and flavorful, just as our server tells us. The main dish as good as the appetizer, we share a nice Fagri (Mediterranean white snaper). No mention the nice selection of wines from all around the world and the tastefully desserts. I really recommend this place. No doubt one of the best places to satisfied our palates in NYC.

I don't even know where to start with this review. Everything from the ambience to the food was absolutely perfect. My mouth is watering just thinking about the wonderful appetizers not to mention the superb entrees and devine desserts!!! The staff was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was warm, elegant and relaxing. I can't wait for my next trip to NY so that I can experience Kellari's again!

I was invited to Kellari last weekend to dine with a friend, and let me tell you that this is one of the best restaurants I have been to in NYC, if not the best! Kellari is the kind of place that makes NYC famous for fabulous dining. The ambiance is incredible... golden lighting, rustic yet classy decor, a beautiful display of fresh seafood, and live Greek music too. The service is impeccable, and the food leaves absolutely nothing to be desired! Be sure to try the warm goat cheese with apricot and almond appetizer... it is pure heaven. And don't forget dessert... their chocolate cake with fig icing was the perfect end to a perfect meal. If you want to enjoy fantastic Greek food and atmosphere with a significant other, family or friends in town visiting or for any other occasion, don' t pass up a visit to Kellari. I will be back for sure!

I am a New Yorker and i love good Greek food. There are many good Greek restaurants in the city, but like Kellari Taverna no other. I visited Kellari for the first time last weekend for a friends birthday party and i loved it. The hostess the waiter and the food was all amazing. I had fresh Whole fish called Lavraki or Bronzino and was cooked perfectly. The fresh fish display had from Live lobsters to a 10 pound Red Snapper. It's been open for less than a year and i didnot know about it. I highly recommended because i thing its the best Greek restaurant in the city period.

I had friends visiting from out of town and decided to try Kellari for the first time. I was very impressed. Oh my God!!! The fish was to die for. I love the decor too (warm and cozy atmosphere), but the food is what really stands out. I wish we didnt have a play to catch, cause I would have loved to stay longer and try a few more dishes. Maybe on my next visit. I highly recommend this place. Its a classy Greek Taverna.

We had a terrible experience this past weekend. We had an early reservation and were seated promtly by a very nice hostess. When the server approached our table instaed of a welcome we were told we could not order food for a half hour because the kitchen was not ready but could have a cocktail . Well, why take a reservation if you are not ready. We were given old bread because the bread had not arrived yet. Once the food arrived it was just plain bad. The mousaka was cold in the center and obviously a reheated casserole with a dreadful yogurt sauce. The calamari was also plain bad. Our server was not a pro from the begining to the end. The dining room is beautiful and that is a shame because this place will not last with reheated food, unorganized staff , terrible food and poor service for a $200 meal.

I have to say that I totally enjoyed my experience at Kellari's. The food, wine and professional service were the best. It brought me back to flavors of my childhood, coming from a family of Mediterranean roots. We loved the fish and chicken and especially the Greek wine. Although, the taramasalata was a bit mellower than my family makes--it was still good.

This was my first Greek experience. The atmosphere was lovely. We didn't have a reservation, but the hostess was awesome and received us with a smile. The food was delicious.
The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable -he wasn't Greek, but he was able to pronounce and explain everything, even the manager came by to welcome us.
We were only three so we ordered different appetizers and had a blast. Everything was fresh and delicious. I am hooked on the octopus and can't wait to go back. Overall a rather enjoyable experience and I highly recommend going.

I have been many times in this restaurant and I find it to be one of my personal favors in New York for the food, fresh fish and friendly service. Try it you will like it.

I have never been as outraged by terrible service as I was at Kellari Restaurant. After messing up our reservation numerous times, we were rewarded for our patience with further incomptence and rudeness. Maybe it was a fluke... It would be a good idea for the owners and mangers of Kellari to remember that there are MANY elegant upsacle Greek restaurants in NY. With that kind of competition I suggest that they work out the kinks in their customer service.

The name Kellari, "cellar" in Greek, refers to the 250 bottles of wine on offer at the Taverna and certainly not the space. With its soaring church-style ceilings and spacious dining room, it is anything but subterranean. The style is oneā€¦
