Bello Sguardo is a neighborhood favorite in the Upper West Side. Located in the bustle of Amsterdam Avenue, Bello Sguardo is a culinary haven serving food originating everywhere from Italy to Turkey to Spain. The cuisine is best described as Mediterranean with Turkish accents. The restaurant is very well known for its tapas, small plates, and Turkish Mezze. The restaurant is perfect for pre-fixe lunch, a fantastic dinner, and weekend brunch. The restaurant boasts an impressive 120 different bottles of wine and is a great place to stop by for after work drinks or to show your friends the new wine bar that you found on the UWS. Bello Sguardo also boasts a full private party room which is perfect for private parties and private events with your own full bar and large reception area. The ambiance here makes Sguardo an equal candidate for a night out with friends or a romantic evening.

We went here on a double date last night and the food was great! I got the black and white ( goat cheese and olive tapenade) appetizer, cappelini with tomatoes and spinach and chicken, and tiramisue... and a glass of wine.
total cost 30 bucks for me! thats amazing in NY!
service was fast, and polite. we will be back for sure.
wish they had outdoor seating available when we were there, would have made it even better!
Pros: great food, great price
Cons: ran out of my favorite wine

I have been on a mediterranean kick lately and have kind of decided to try them all out. Came across Bello Sguardo...looked good so we went for dinner. The rest is cool, casual, and not too big so that you feel lost. There are like a million bottles of wine for you to choose from which i love and the owner was there to help us make the choice which i really liked. I had the lamb shank and my friend had the lamb pasta dish. Both were terrific. They also had a sweet pre-fixe deal which we did not do...but it looked pretty darn inexpensive for what you get.
Pros: great food and loads of wine

Went there for dinner last night around 6PM. Place was already packed. I was accommodated promptly. Host, co owner was very friendly and he help go through menu. I choose Prix-Fixe, three courses for $25.00, each course few choices. Started with home made hummus and grilled pita bread. It was so fresh and perfectly done. For main course I had pomegranate glazed Sea Bass served with spicy carrots and cilantro, it was so good that fills like melting in mouth. At the end I had Baklava with pistachio and freshly made whipped cream, you must try this traditional Turkish delicacy it is like to die for. They offer special wine with Prix-Fixe menu, Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Grigio, both from Napa Valley, each $6.00 glass / $20.00 bottle. For quality of food and service, this is great, great deal.

4 of us originally went for a tapas dinner- they were all good and we were very satisfied with everything from the staff, to decor. Very reasonable pricing even with several glasses of wine each, this was a great experience, def will go back

Rude Owner and Poor Service. Had Sunday brunch at Bello Sguardo. After waiting almost 1 hour for our food and seeing that tables that came 20-30 minutes after us received their food before us, our patience was running out. We told our waitress (who was very nice) our frustration as we were still waiting for our food (simple eggs benedict). She told the owner who then went into the kitchen and came back 10 minutes later (doesn't take the long to poach eggs) wiht our food, but NO apology. I expressed to him that this type of service was unprofessional and unacceptable and he gave us a very curt and rude response saying that things happen and that there was a mix up b/c they were so busy (restaurant was 1/3 full) and then walked away. To top off his rude response, the eggs benedict meal was small portioned and mediocre. Definitely will never go back...
Pros: nice waitress
Cons: rude owner, slow and shoddy service

Very reasonable tapas style Mediterranean menu (not just Spanish) - also with whole and half size pasta dishes (which look very creative and interesting) and a good selection of delicious main courses too. We went with just 4 tapas dishes between 2 of us - they were all good and we were stuffed afterwards. At $30 a head, including a glass of wine each, this was good value for good food and attentive service. Good choice for a reasonable meal pre-Lincoln Center event. Nice decor too.
