Very good BBQ. Great atmosphere. Sides are hit or miss. Sweet potatoes taste like THanksgiving (blech in the summer) and there are a few sides that taste the same because they top them off with the same creole-type powdered seasoning.

The BBQ wings at Dinosaur are the very best the the city has to offer. A dozen wings, a pint of beer and a ball game equals a great afternoon in Harlem.

Pros: Great beer selection

Cons: Usually crowded

.

The last time we went, we were told 1.5 hour wait, but it turned out to be only about 20 minutes. The place was crowded, but there is enough room in-between tables so you don't feel like a herd of cattle. (no pun intended).

The chickens wings blow away any others that I've ever had. They seem to be grilled and coated, rather than fried.

The portions are not huge, but big. The prices are very reasonable. Lunch for two was about $48 plus tip. And we had left-overs to take home.

The real surprise for me was the side-dishes. Most places I've eaten the sides aren't taken seriously and are usually slopped on as filler. The dinosaur's sides were very fresh and could be a satisfying meal on there own.

I have only eaten at Dinosaur twice and both times it was incredibly crowded with a long wait for a table. So now what I do is, park my car across the street at Fairway, call in my order to go, go food shopping, cross the street, have one great beer at the bar from their extensive selection and get my BBQ fix to go. The ribs are on most people's Top 10 List for the city and rightfully so...but the wings are really good too as well as their sides. I have also tried a few of their sandwiches which were very good as well. It's a fun place with a nice cozy bar, friendly staff and great atmosphere but there seems to always be a wait for a table since it is always packed. That should be a good sign, right?

I've been going to Dinosaur for the past 3 years. I don't know why I wasn't one of the first people at the door when it first opened, but better late than never.

Normally, we start with the wings, but the deviled eggs are almost as good as my grammy's. I am such a fan of the Big Ass Pork platter that it's usually the first thing I think of, but when I do switch it up, I'm never disappointed. The ribs are always tender and the roasted chicken is always moist.

I tend to stay away from the fried green tomatoes and bbq fried rice, but you can't go wrong with the mac&cheese, potato salad or the baked beans.

As for dessert, my last trip saw key lime pie on the menu...but I think the banana coconut pudding is totally unbeatable.

The place was packed(which is a good sign). They told us the wait would be over an hour, but the place was recommended and it smelled so good we waited. We had some drinks at the bar and were seated within half an hour. Deviled eggs and the wings were really good. Loved the ribs. Try it. You'll probably be back! I know I will

As we approached the restaurant the aroma of BBQ sauce was heavy in the air. We all quickly got very excited. What I didn't know before we got there was that you can make reservations, I will do this next time. We waited probably an hour but it wasn't bad since we got seats at the bar and they had like 40 beers available. The guys even ordered flights of 4 different beer samples.

We finally were seated and right away noticed the different sauce options on the table. The "Sensuous" sauce was a huge hit. We ordered a full rack of baby back ribs, korean style beef ribs, and pulled pork. We also got sides: mac & cheese, baked beans, fries, cole slaw, fried rice, salt potatoes, and corn bread.

The majority winner was the korean beef ribs. They had a great flavor very similar to the best bbq I have had in Korea town. I also really enjoyed the regular ribs a lot. The mac & cheese was absolutely amazing. The cheese was thick, rich, and creamy. I would highly suggest this side to complement your meal.

We were all STUFFED after dinner. Funny enough, the waiter hands us a dessert menu and we ask, "Does anyone actually have room for dessert?" He said about 1-2% order it!

Dino BBQ is definitely in my Top 5 places to eat in New York City! While it is certainly not a place for passers-by, those that plan the trip will be handsomely rewarded with a huge plate of ribs, and some delicious side dishes. I personally go for the french fries and beans with my ribs!

The only drawback to this place is that it so so popular that the waiting area cannot accommodate everyone one inside. The bar area could be 50% bigger, and that might do it...but if you can get to the bar, you will find a solid selection of craft brews in bottles and on tap, and the drinks are as good as they get in the City. I had a rookie make my Long Island the other night (it was cute because she was measuring the shots). The second one was clearly made by the veteran bartender who was pouring two bottles from each hand!

Oh, and do yourself a favor, book your reservation online. Makes it much less of a hassle to get your table. Big groups must reserve early since the place is so popular!

I'm not a big BBQ eater, but I've been to Dinosaur BBQ a few times and pretty much licked my plate clean. The Deviled eggs are a must have as an appetizer and every entree I've tried (ribs, brisket) was tasty. The drinks are good and strong. Be sure to leave your mark on one of the bathroom walls.

I take my hat off to you Dino BBQ. Can't wait to make another man cry :o)

It is a very large place and it is very crowded. There are TV's everywhere and it is dimly lit, a real social atmosphere. The ribs here are real great and you get a huge portion.

As a BBQ lover, I can be quite picky. I LOVE this place. I haven't moved passed the pulled pork sandwiches, as they are so good I can't entertain anything else. The major issue I have with this place is the DENSITY of people. You literally can not get in the door, with the crowds spilling out to the sidewalk and street. Waiting is a hassle, I always get take out.

Cornbread good
Beans-below avg (more like bean soup)
Pulled Pork very good
Sauce -only decent -not even remotely special
Ribs- Below Average(incredibly dissapointng-bad flavor and bad meat.)
Mac and cheese- good flavor but noodles too heavy, hard and thick
Small portions-very expensive
I would go again and get a pulled pork sandwich.

Love the decor of Dinosaur, large bar area so perfect holding pen for those waiting for tables. I highly recommend the wings, it's a great balance of sweet and spicy. The mac and cheese is also well done and a great complement to the ribs. I do not recommend the brisket, it was dry, dry dry
Fantastic selection of beer, they rotate the selection according to the season. Def worth the trip uptown

If you leave here hungry or unsatisfied, it is truly your own fault. The food is great and the servings are more than generous. The staff aims to please. If you are dissatisfied, they want to know and will do what is necessary to fix whatever the problem may be. Their traditional barbecue menu with chicken, ribs and steak is complimented by their specialty and custom plates for order. The tasteful decor and live music provide a wonderful dining atmosphere.

Tonight I finally tried dinosaur and was extremely disappointed. Tried the ode to elgin and tres hombres. It included ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and sausage. The meats were all bland as could be, with no smoke ring or flavoring at all. Last time I checked, all good bbq has a nice red smoke ring. Also, would it have been too much trouble for them to pull the membrane of the ribs, so that they might have been easier to cut and chew. This has to be the worst BBQ in NYC and I have tried them all. Save your money and try any other bbq joint in the city.

Two hours before our big BBQ house warming party, the caterer called and canceled. Scrambling for ideas, we decided to call Dinosaur Bar-B-Que to see what they could do. We didn't have a whole lot of hope since we needed food for 75 people. In two hours, Dinosaur had put together beans, coleslaw, cornbread, ribs, and chicken. In three hours, they had pulled pork, beef brisket, and salt potatoes. The food was amazing. No one realized the snafu with the original caterer. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que saved our party and the food was probably better than the original caterer's food.

NYC outpost a BBQ joint started in Syracuse, New York. While not as good as its upstate parent, Dinosaur offers decent ribs, brisket and pulled pork, with their excellent sauces ranging from mild to very hot. And, the sides of mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes are quite good. It?s a fun place with music at night. Just keep your expectations grounded!

As an aside, Dinosaur is at the start (or end) of the Hudson River Bike Trail at 125th Street on the Upper West Side, that goes down to Battery Park. For a great day, bring your bike (or rent one-- there are bike rental places along the Hudson), enjoy a fantastic, easy ride up and down the Hudson enjoying the sites and views, and have some BBQ along the way.

Parking is practically non existent, so get there early to search around. One of the few things NYC does well is tow a car in a hot minute. This joint is better than the TGI Fridays/ Applebees chains, though Houlihans did upgrade their look and menu. Dinosaur's ribs of course, are the selling point, so rest assured they are among the best you can get at any price in the area. The ambiance is very hip. Lighting is just low enough to people watch. College students populate the wait staff, and the audience proves their hipness by venturing this far north and west to seek sustenance. Weekend prime time is a crush, but isn't it everywhere in the big apple?

If you're looking for good Texas barbecue in the Big Apple, look no further than Dinosaurs. It's a trek up to Harlem from the Times Square area, but it's well worth it. The portions are big, the meat is seasoned well, and the sides are awesome.

Been meaning to go here a while but the long wait always kept me away until a day we were able to get here a little earlier than usual (& hence not wait too long for a table). The food is EXCELLENT, & what a plentiful selection they offer! The chicken & ribs were well flavored & tender, & the sides were delicious. The brisket was good but a bit dry. The combo plates are a great choice if you wanna sample a bunch of their stuff. So it you love bbq & don?t mind waiting a bit for a table, you have to check this place out!

The restaurant itself is nice inside very western looking and big seating area. Their service was bad! They took a long time bringing out our appetizers. The fried green tomatoes were very good. I had the ribs and they were spicy with too much pepper. I had a drink called the "donkey punch"and it was horrible and way too strong! The sides were nasty! I will not be going there again.

Among all this talk of ribs and pulled pork, one of Dinosaur's best meats has been neglected. When I go to Dinosaur, I head straight for the Ode to Elgin (ribs, brisket, and Elgin sausage). I grew up in San Antonio and discovering my favorite sausage in Harlem was like going home. I also like the brisket, and the ribs are decent, but the sausage is what I go for --and definitely ask for the sauce on the side. I have never had an issue with the service, although I usually get it to go as I live in Harlem, and don't love to wait an hour in line with my kids.

Dino has built its reputation by feeding Western NYers consistently good cue in a fun atmosphere. The ribs were touch fatty, but not overly so. The chicken was VERY good- and I am not a chicken guy. The brisket was ok and I just can't understand why people insist on bringing TX onto good KC cue. The pulled pork was not good, the taste was fine and the smoking was nice, but the pulling left a lot to be desired. Yankees should just stick to ribs, steaks and chicken, as I haven't been to one NYCue house that can pull pork the way they do down south- a pity.

The sides were nothing to write home about and considering the supposed excellence of cue, there were no collard greens or okra.

The place pulls a crowd and clearly has a stong following. Its better than Blue Smoke or any other cue shack in the city, but that is not saying much. Funny, we can get the best of almost everything in NYC, but something so simple as a good pulled pork sandwich is not one of them.

Went for my bday with 15 people. knew the place is busy so did reservations (great service over phone to coordinate) wiated less then 15 minutes once whole party arrived. Waitress was fun and handled the large group fantastically. Drinks are perfectly made, bartenders are fun and attentive. Once the food was served, all you could hear was groans of satisfaction from all sides of the table. Best food, great drinks, fun music, great atmosphere and relaxed service all for a fairly low price. Not only will I be going back but pretty much everyone who came is planning another trip back. Make reservations if you are going on weekend, trust me it is worth the wait even if u have to.

Best food, great drinks, fun music, great atmosphere and relaxed service all for a fairly low price. Not only will I be going back but pretty much everyone who came is planning another trip back. Make reservations if you are going on weekend, trust me it is worth the wait even if u have to.

Pros: Absolutely everything once you step inside

Cons: Parking can be tricky

.

So FREAKIN good, HUGE portions and reasonable prices, great customer service also..... really nothing bad I think :) enjoy!

Hubby and I went with a group of friends early Sat when it opened for lunch. No reservations needed. It's a much shorter walk from the subway than I thought. We had the deviled eggs for appetizers, which were good, but really salty. We got the traditional sampler (pork ribs, brisket, and chicken), the extreme sampler (the same, but bigger proportions), and the smallest order of the ribs. The extreme sampler was actually enough for three people to share. As for the sides, the salty potatoes were a crowd pleaser and so was the creole potato salad. The veggies for the day, okra and stewed tomatoes, we could've done without. The cornbread got mixed reviews. We really liked the garlic chipotle sauce and the regular non-spicy barbecue sauce. Out of the sampler, I loved the briskets. My husband loved his ribs. We've been to Blue Smoke and this place seems to have better ribs. We'll definitely be back for more. Oh yeah, check out the "visual explosion" in the bathrooms.

Pros: Great cue, cool vibe- where's the sawdust?

Cons: Some of the sides were a miss

just a quick note about what a wonderful place this is! I went with a group of 17 co-workers on a tuesday night with a reservation for 7:30. we walked in at 7:25 and they sat us immediately and were nothing but friendly and eager to please. We got wings and fried green tomatoes for the table, and then 17 different dishes, all of which came promptly. everyone loved the food, and i can't say enough about the service. We left elated, and with full bellies and will definitely be back:) Thanks for such a great experience!

Upon hearing a rave review of Dinosaur from the food network my friend and I decided to give them a try. When we arrived we were told the wait would be about 30 minutes but to our surprise they called us within 5. Cool! Though seating was tight we were still excited about the place. We both ordered ribs, and we were both disappointed. Though the ribs were succulent, they were also flavorless (I thought they smoked they?re ribs?). I?ve never had fatty ribs before; it was weird scrapping the fat off the meat. Thinking the sauce would add flavor to the meat it still left much to be desired, it was runny and did not live up to expectations. We were so disappointed we kicked ourselves for driving way pass Virgil?s. I will say their bar drinks are well made as well as their mac n cheese, but then again who goes to a BBQ place for the side dishes?

I love this place, everytime i go i have a great time and love the atmosphere. Dont expect to have a romantic evening here. This place is to have drinks and good food while you hang out with your friends having any type of convo. the staff treats you like you are a friend and will give you honest opinions and preferences on food and drinks. Everyone is genuine and remembers you. I am greeted by name. First time goers are treated likewise and from my experience are always invited back. The bar is great and the staff behind it are the coolest.

After a nice meal, of multiple drinks each, appetizers, entrees, and desert, the manager came up to our table and said "we have this table reserved for another party in 4 minutes." He then proceeded to stand and watch us until we got up and left. Though he could have nicely asked us to leave, or mentioned that he really needed the table, or thanked us for our patronage, he chose instead to treat us as though we were second class.

We were not rude, we had more than purchased enough food/drinks, and other tables in the area had been sitting for longer than us. This was the worst I have ever been treated at a restaurant in NYC. I will not return, nor will I recommend it to any of my friends.

I recently went to Dino on the advice of a friend. when I got there everything was beyond what I expected. We did have to wait for about an hour, but, it seemed really slammed and it was a saturday night. despite that opur waitress came over to us right away. Right away she was smiling and laughing with us,. which is rare to find in a place that is so busy. when our food came out, she brought a bucket for the bones and wet naps( which i found out later are very important). Our wings were amazing, my friends ribs were great, and my chicken steak was to die for.( Side note: order the salt potatoes and mac and cheese, soooo good). You get a tons of food, so careful not to over order. We both ordered the donkey drink like our waitress suggested. It was a little strong for me, but nonetheless food. Our food came before the beers though. Strange. anyway. I would tell every one to eat at dino, it's just the top of the line in everything, food, service and managment( he actually came and asked how everything was!!! a first).

My girlfriend & buddy arrived at 9:10pm Sunday night for dinner. We were told no further seatings unless we reserved. The reason, "We got slammed today." Supposed to be open til 10pm. The host suggested ordering takeout...but that would be 45mins--What?!!. It wasn't even busy when we arrived, neither at the bar or the restaurant. I was puzzled, but not to be dissuaded we placed a takeout order and went to the bar to wait. More problems... 4 bartenders "working", it took 15 mins for anyone to notice us sitting at the bar stools. I'm sure it was busy earlier, because they were out of ribs (a tragedy) but definitely not busy now. My buddy, a bartender himself, said it was the same terrible bar service a few months ago when he was here. Anyway, seeing as how the place was still half-full of diners we asked a waitress if we could sit in the bar area and eat..."no problem" she said. The night appeared salvageable; we're eating in the restaurant despite their efforts. But then the food arrives, 2 sides missing which took 20 minutes to correct. However, while I waited at the takeout counter, every other order was walking up with missing items. Every seasoned customer took an inventory to make sure his or her orders were correct. Girls at the front counter were complaining alongside the patrons at the kitchens' ineptitude. It was a total disaster as I watched for 20 -30 mins while waiting, paying, correcting errors, etc...it really wasn't that busy either.
This debacle may have been a one off situation but I talked to others who had similar stories to tell. The BBQ is very good, but the operations were mismanaged and it definitely took away from the food experience. They need to clean house and get organized.

My sister and I went there just to check it out due to the reviews and the Food Network profile. The food there will have you wanting to lick your fingers. The portions are outrageous and the service is impeccable. Word of caution, make sure you make a reservation before going. The place tends to get very crowded. The only thing I was disappointed with was the boiled shrimp, however the fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, Wings, BRISKET, RIBS and the beans (you can tell we ate to our hearts were content) was fabulous.

It's an okay experience. Probably fun for families or friends from out of town. The atmosphere is bordering on Disney. I found myself pining for Virgil's BBQ while eating what I found to be okay ribs and brisket. The beans could have been out of a can. The cornbread out of a box. And my draft beer was lukewarm. Out waitress was very good. The busboys were kind of surly. The prices are kind of reasonable, but all in all, I fail to see what the fuss is about.

I brought a friend from out of town for lunch here. It was the best decision- the ribs were smoky and spicy. Try the mac n cheese- it is fantastic! And what to drink with Dinosaur's food? Beer, of course! We ordered a pitcher and it came cold and fast. The service was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, a great place to go when you're looking for something low key, but high quality.

This place has some of the best ribs I have had in NY and I love the potatoe salad. The chicken is petty good too. I would recommend making reseverations in advance for parties larger than 2. Try going in the afternoon on the weekend to avoid a very long wait. The service is good, the manager actually makes the rounds to make sure the guests are happy.

There is always room for improvement ALTHOUGH... this is a GREAT spot. Packed at peak-times and parking anytime before 7 can be tough. Walk-ins are do-able if you're willing to get a beer at the bar while you wait. Summer time go earlier and eat at the tables by the bar.

Tab's don't transfer.

This place is awesome! Although it is a bit of a pain to get to it is well worth the treck. This place consistently puts out great quality food and the environment is fun and lively. Definitely call ahead otherwise you'll be waiting for a while simply because it's some of the best BBQ in the city!

If you're looking for middling cue and are sick of Dallas BBQ, Dinosaur is the restaurant for you. Bad deviled eggs, eh ribs, so so pulled pork, tasteless sides.
The only redeeming dish is the chicken wings though those are real real good.
If you want good bbq go to RUB or Blue Smoke and stay out of Dinosaur.
Also, they charged my friend an extra $2.50 for his bourbon on the rocks without telling us prior.

Pros: Decent beer selection, chicken wings

Cons: almost everything else

Ribs are tender & flavorful - smoked just right - real pit bbq
Chicken & chicken wings - moist & tasty - the wings are not fried but smoked & grilled - kinda healthy
pulled pork is delicious
fried green tomatoes w/home made ranch - it will make you smile
brisket - tender when hot, but this is true with all brisket when cold - notice the great smoke ring.
banana pudding that Elvis would eat with a "Thank you very much.." It's the cookie that come with it that makes it perfect!

The beers on draft are enough to take you home &

that trans fat fight - no prblem here because they use no trans fats for those fries or the other great sides -- have the collards & slaw.
