I've been to Salon02 twice as a hair model & was very pleasantly surprised both times. Both cutters had been cutting hair for sometime so they knew what they were doint. the owner checked periodically & at the completion of the cut examines the finished cut very carefully & gives it his own last trim. A treat, for sure, because he knows hair. Now in fairness I have to say that I am not very fussy with my hair but I've been a hair model enough times to know when delivers upscale cut. This is such a place.

I came to NY from Miami for a party and needed to find a good place to get my haircut and a party blowout done. I have to tell you I was very nervous to try out a new place. I have read lots of reviews on different salons and decided to go to O2. Well let me tell you all the reviews about this place are true! As soon as I walked in I was transformed into a Zen place with super nice staff. I was a little late to the appointment and if the staff was irritated by that they did not show it at all!!! I got a cut with Hiroshi and he really does know hair. He looked at my cut and asked me what I wanted to do with it. After I explained what I wanted he was able to suggest what he thought would work best. I feel like he really listened to what I wanted and did not do anything I did not. And he really does know hair, the way it moves and the way each cut will look on a specific hair type. At first I started telling him what to do and how to cut but then decided to just trust the PRO and go with the flow. Am I glad I did that!!! Hiroshi did an amazing job; I really love my new hair. It looks almost like what I have asked for at the beginning but with Hiroshi funky twist. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone and just go with what the pro tells you, you will not regret it.

There is no one like Maria Felix. She is like a chemist and artist combined. Here is a woman who is in her element. Not only does she know exactly what to do each time I describe trying a certain look, but she is able to articulate very clearly what she is doing and why. I always get an education with Maria whether it's about why a color is right for me (or not) or about hair products. She is brilliant at corrective work, as well. A few times, I chose to go local for my hair and the results were disastrous. So off to the city I went to Maria the Magician and she skillfuly corrected the mess. I will follow her anywhere. It's just not worth it to me to try someone new anymore. She is also very kind and approachable. I never feel shy about asking her any questions. Oh, and O2 salon is a very relaxing and zen place. The staff is top notch.

I have been a client of Maria since 1998. Through the years I have moved and as a result visited different salons and colorists. Each time I always drew the same conclusion which was that Maria could not be replaced. She is an excellent listener who takes time to hear my specific requests. When not clear on which color direction I was headed Maria always made creative and beautiful choices for me. Having trust in your colorist is something Maria has earned as she has the skills to make me look great as a blond, brunette, and redhead....the correct shade for me. Her personal attention, artistic talent, and warm nature are reasons that Maria is the best. After being a happy and satisfied client for 10 years I see no reason to look further!

I have been seeing Salon 02 owner Hiroshi every month for nearly a year now for my single process color, highlights and cut. His attention to detail in all that he does is so appreciated and I am constantly complimented on my beautiful highlights in particular. My hair looks elegant and modern at the same time. The focus on customer service at Salon 02 spans across every single person that works there and even on the busiest day in the salon it feels calming. I highly recommend it.

I've been in NYC for 5 years, I come from Italy, and 5 years is exactly how long it took me to find Salon O2. I finally found a colorist that knows what she is doing, Maria listens to what I say and from there she tells me what she thinks and we work together on the best look for me. The result is that I look fabulous, and I don't run home to retouch my hairdo or to look up other saloons because once again I'm not happy. I've never been so satisfied before. The saloon is classy yet without an attitude, everyone is charming and makes me feel important but at ease. It's like one I'm in there everything is taken care of. Keep up with the goos work!

The following is absolutely the truth. One person (Marlene @ O 2 Salon) has cut my hair for over 30 years. I originally lived in NYC but moved 10 years ago but find a way every month to visit NYC. There is no discussion as Marlene knows what I like. Marlene is an artist. She focuses. She is careful. She always goes the extra mile to make people happy even beyond her styling talents. She is special and I always enjoy our interesting dialogue. I do not write reviews often but I am confident with the accuracy of what I have shared.

It was my first time to the salon, a friend recommended me to Betina. She was wonderful. We had a thorough consultation. The shampoo and head massage was fantastic. Everyone was so accommodating. I love my new haircut, it's been so easy for me to maintain, and I will certainly be returning.

I have been following Maria for about six years and can't imagine going elsewhere for my highlights. She knows just how to give me that ""scandinavian blond"" look that I love so much. I've seen her do everything from subtle color to extreme, ""of the moment "" color on her clients and she always respects your personal style yet always offers objective suggestions. I always leave feeling fabulous and have been stopped by several women on the street to ask who does my hair color...you can't get better advertising than that!

I was first drawn to Salon O2 by the great Citysearch reviews and I am happy I found my way to this great salon. I have been going to Salon O2 for about a year and a half and I've been a loyal customer of Maria for highlights the entire time. She is fantastic! She is so great at selecting the perfect tone of color that will look great on me and works well with my current hair cut. I know I can just show up for my appointment and Maria will take care of the rest and I can walk out looking fabulous! The salon is also very efficient and well run. Definitely ask for Maria for color at Salon O2!

I got my hair cut and highlighted here. Penny did the cut and she was awesome!!! I highly recommend her. She is very professional and gives really great haircuts. Paola did my color and she also did a really great job. My hair has grown out very nicely and I am recommending this salon to all of my friends.

Maria is a doll. My hair was very brassy and orangy it looked just awful. I just wanted to be a natural blonde again. Iam not sure how she was able to do it in one session but she did.. Thank you so much iam finally a Natural Blonde!!!!!!!

Salon o2 is very modern, tranquil and peaceful. More importantly I received the best highlights ever from Paula. My highlights make my hair look sun kissed. I love them! Ask for caramel colors and you will love the way Paula does them. She is amazing. Very nice too!

I visited Salon O2 and had a haircut with Hiroshi, I had many bad experiences prev, but this one was very positive. He gave me a very modern cut. I wanted something abit daring and he gave me bob with a very nice angle.

I've seen Hiroshi few times now and I must say he knows ins and outs of hair. He is very experienced with hair and knows how something is going to come out. If you show him a picture, he will make your hair look like it. His cut is well worth the money considering other prices for cuts. In fact, before him, I was at another salon where the stylist there now charges $200, and she was not as accurate with the cut. Just make sure you articulate what you want well so that there is no miscommunication. \r

The only reason I didn't give 5 star is because I am very critical and 5 is only for absolute perfection where there is just that extra unexpected creativity with all the updated knowledge of hair trends.

I had been trying to achieve the perfect hair color forever (okay maybe five years) and now I have it. I have gotten highlights and lowlights three times with Paula and I want to keep going to her forever!!! I have never consistently loved my hair color before (I always used to see pictures of celebs in magazines and bring them to the hair salon, saying ""make my hair this color, make my hair like that color,"" but now I am finally satisfied and it is a relief!) My hair was too blonde and very unhealthy before I started going to Paula. She gave me highlights but also lowlights that broke up the blonde a little and made the color look more natural. I have also been to her to get a protein treatment that made my hair feel MUCH healthier. Whenever I see myself in pictures now I think ""wow, my hair looks awesome"" :) Paula listens and knows what she is doing and is the sweetest thing ever. I also get my hair cut there, with Albert, and he is also amazing. He gave me the perfect amount of layers and actually listened when I said I only wanted an inch off. The salon has a very relaxed, laid-back atmosphere and everyone is very helpful. The people and the salon are so nice that I almost don't want to leave when everything is done. Anyway, I have recommended salon o2 to all my friends, and I will definitely be going here for a long time.

I have lived in a number of large cities within 7 different states. My experience has been that it is ""special"" here at this salon. My cut is done by Penny and color by Sherwin. I receive compliments on color, cut and style frequently. I have been to other salons here in NY and elsewhere and paid much more for results that were not nearly as satisfactory. Give them a try. Take pictures and take time to communicate your lifestyle and preference - I'm sure you'll be happy with the outcome.

I am really particular about my haircuts and color and have finally settled down with Maria. She is so talented and super sweet, and always does exactly what I ask for (except better). she uses warm colors that don't turn brassy, and places lighter pieces throughout your hair so that it perfectly picks up the light. my friends always say i look like a celebrity when she's done with me. love her.

This salon is modern and has great decor. The salon is very spacious and with a zen like feel. They use great products (Phyto) etc. and my color came out perfect. I get compliments all the time. I got a half head of highlights and asked for a ""caramel"" color. They came out perfect!

I have been to a million places for color, most are ok but not good enough to make me come back. I went to Sherwin and I love my color, it is exactly what I wanted, the color is very bright, and they actually did a good job on giving me a blowout afterwards! I have very curly hair so I never get a blowout that I actually like, not to mention that it is for free with color! I will definitely be going back to Sherwin and would recommend him to everyone. The environment is nice, laid-back, not stuffy, and it is a great space.

MARLENE is by far the best hair stylist I have ever experienced! She has a talent and ability that can only be described as exquisite. Being a performer and in the public eye, it had been very difficult to find a consistent and talented men's hair stylist until Marlene. She is an artist with highly tuned skill and cuts my hair in such a way that people always comment on it. I have literally had strangers approach me on the street to compliment my hair cut ( a first) I have recently relocated to LA and still will not let anyone else cut my hair until I come back to NYC for work, and go immediately to see Marlene. Yes she is that good. The salon is very pleasant, friendly and well maintained. If you are a stylish man who wants a fine tuned and elegant hair cut then Marlene is the stylist for you.

If you are looking for a colorist, I recommend Maria. I recently moved to Manhattan and was hesistant to try a new place after being with my hairdresser for over 5 years. I have tried pretty much every color and have come to have high expectations. Maria did exactly what I asked for and made it look very natural. She is very precise and has a lot of patience. Her experience shows.

Before discovering Salon 02- I went to another salon for japanese straightening. My hair was never wash and go. It was dry and in the humidity it kinked. I considered it a waste of money living in NYC in the summer!!\r
After reading the reviews on city search, I went to Salon 02 last year for the straightening. I first had a consult with Hiroshi (the owner). After, a week I had my appointment. It was exactly what I wanted...wash and go hair. It was soft, silky and shiny. A few weeks later, I ditched my hairstylists and decided to try Penny at Salon 02-I have been going to her ever since. I have extremely long hair and she was able to give me wonderful layers, bangs and body. What is wonderful is that every few weeks, I get complimentary bangs trims! I have never been happier with my hair. I always get compliments.\r
I redid the Japanese straightening again a few weeks ago (after a year)- and again, its excellent. I recommended it to a friend and she did it yesterday and was also amazed at the results. \r
It may be pricey compared to other salons in NYC- but its well worth the money. I have a few friends who went to the cheaper salons and none have the wash and go hair that I got at Salon 02.\r
The staff is friendly, helpful and honest. They tell you what will and won't work on your hair.I can say, that after living here for a few years, and trying numerous salons, I will never go back to any other salon but Salon 02!

I went to Salon O2 for my wedding updo and make-up, and Hiroshi is my hero. Every hair stylist I've gone to has commented about about hair's unusual texture--thick, heavy, long, resilient, and glossy/slippery. Nice hair, but very difficult for an updo. In the past, I've gone to many reputable high-end salons in NYC whenever I needed an updo for a special event. The outcome was always a tightly pulled back bun with many many pins to try and hold the look in place. Ouch, and not particularly interesting. \r

Hiroshi was creative (and patient) in the design of the updo (better than anything I've seen in magazines) and how he used the pins. I was so impressed with his skills and the genuine care he took to helping me look my best on my wedding day. Thank you, Hiroshi! I also had my make-up professionally done at Salon O2. I left (not looking like a made-up doll which is what usually happens) but rather me plus plus. I didn't know I could look so good. It was really a transformation. At the wedding, I received almost more comments about my hair and make-up than my wedding dress!

I had a truly sensational haircut and highlighting experience with Hiroshi. Back in LA, I employed a fabulous stylist and was a loyal customer to him for many years. Ever since I moved to NY, I've been hesitant to seek out someone else. Once you've trampled through so many and think you've found the one, it's hard to want to restart that whole process all over again. However, Hiroshi surpassed my expectations. I wanted a simple, layered cut on wavy hair (previously color-treated and ceramic permed.) And he delivered. The cut neatly framed and accentuated my face shape. The color turned out spectacular as well. It has all the highlites in all the right places and the definition I want in my hair. Yet, it looks completely natural, albeit being Asian with ""natural"" dark hair. Three hours with Hiroshi went by quickly, yet it felt like time came to a standstill. The atmosphere was peaceful. The decor conveyed tranquility. The staff was genuinely hospitable and paid a lot of attention to my needs, yet they're not constantly in your face. I didn't sense a hierarchy with the staff. There were no elitisms. Everyone worked together in harmony. Hiroshi worked at a moderate place and he never allowed me to be bored. He did all the work on my hair himself and even monitored toner application at the sink. He's also a great conversationalist, especially if you had an interest in Buddhism... he could tell you all about it! Money comes and goes, but a salon experience with the shear master is priceless.

I am currently a cosmetology student learning to cut and color hair, so it's no surprise that there are a number of students and teachers who would be willing to cut my hair for free. Thing is, I am very, very picky. I have a short hair, and haircuts tend to be a nightmare. I am always worried I will end up looking like I have a mans hair cut, or worse, no particular ""style"" at all. In an effort to find someone who could bring me an edgy European short a-line cut, I made an appointment with Hiroshi, the owner of Salon 02. Lucky me, he had an appointment open that evening. From the moment I walked in I felt at ease. The receptionist was an absolute darling, he took my coat and bag, while we cracked a few jokes. After changing, I was offered a drink and a comfortable spot to sit. I had arrived almost a half an hour early, and Hiroshi made time to come over and greet me while explaining that he had one client before me. Again, I was early, and he had me in his chair on time. Our consultation was great. I told him what I was looking for and gave him the freedom to add anything he wanted. The assistant was very friendly, and helped me out with some special needs (healing ear piercings) while she washed my hair. As for the cut with Hiroshi....and remember this is coming from another hairstylist...amazing! He put so much detail into the cut, creating striking angles that complimented my head and face shape. I learned a great deal from Hiroshi, and I will be back for more. Thanks again Salon 02...you were all wonderful to be around!

After my stylist moved, (I faithfully saw her for three years), I booked an appointment with Hiroshi based on the reviews here. I've since been back twice and now that I've found Hiroshi / Salon 02, I won't go anywhere else. He cuts hair beautifully, and is a very down to earth, nice person. He is truly concerned that you are happy with your cut, and takes his time with you. \r

The vibe of the salon is calm, quiet, and personable. The staff are friendly and accomodating. (No attitude! No waits long past your scheduled appointment!) When I've booked appointments far in advance, the salon calls close to the date to confirm.\r

I can't recommend Hiroshi / Salon 02 more highly, and do whenever people ask who cuts my hair. A cut with Hiroshi's not cheap, but he's totally worth it! \r

I had conducted a lot of research before calling O2. I made an appointment for Japanese Hair Straightening. Though there isn't a detailed description on the website regarding the process, the receptionist put me at ease by explaining this treatment is very popular with their clients....and they are very satisfied. During my consultation, Hiroshi (who is also the owner) explained the process and was very personable. It's been a few months since my treatment and I must say that it has been a success! For those first timers - make sure you set aside at least 1/2 a day for this treatment. \r
The staff at O2 is very knowledgable and professional. The atmosphere at the Salon is very Zen-like. I will definitely return!

After reading the reviews here, I was skeptical, but didn't know where else to go (especially since I've tried out several other well-known salons)...but I'm so glad I went! I got a great no-fuss haircut (what I asked for) and a fabulous blowout from Hiroshi. I have watched dozens of haircutters cut my hair and Hiroshi is the only one who seemed to really understand my hair type and head shape. Its pricey, but worth every penny!!!

At the recommendation of a citysearch review, I went to this salon because I was fed up with my hair. I had been growing it out but had NO idea what to do with it since I do not have the time, patience or skill to style it myself each morning. And I had spent enough on less expensive cuts that looked great in the salon but terrible the morning after and everyday following. So I needed a haircut that would look great all on its own. In comes Hiroshi. I made an appointment, described I needed a haircut that required no styling to look great and feminine and in 30 minutes I had this wonderful haircut that my husband described as elegant. What's funny is that I don't generally go to higher end salons (I have 3 kids and they've hijacked my wallet) so maybe this is ""normal"" for the best in the business...but while Hiroshi was cutting it, he took a step back from the chair I was sitting in, looked at my profile and studied it in the same way Tiger Woods would study a golf shot on the green. He was completely engaged and not at all mindlessly cutting. So you can't argue with his approach or his results. I could not be happier.

Over the past couple of years its been hard to find a good colorist who's honest, talented, and has good taste. Then I saw Maria and I've never been so happy with my hair!! After years of trying to find the right colorist and many disasterous experiences I randomly found Maria after reading numerous positive reviews on city search- and I was not dissapointed. She took her time to look at the many pictures I had brought in, and sat there and evaluated how each color would look with my skin tone. She also used many techniques I had never seen before, and the result was exactly what I wanted! She gave me strict instructions to make sure the color lasts as long a spossible- and I already have an appt. in 5 weeks to go back for a gloss and touch up. If you haven't gotten what you were looking for yet- RUN to Maria!!!!!!!

this is the best salon i've ever been too! great atmosphere, friendly staff, very attentive. i got my cut and color by albert and jeanise. both were excellent. I was lookin for more volume to my hair, which is very thin, and the layered cut was perfect. just the right length and amount of layering. for the highlighting, i wanted soemthing natural with my black hair, but without coming out like orange streaks. She showed me samples of what the color would turn out to be. I didn't expect much from them since they usually don't turn out like the samples, but they were exactly what i'd wanted. I'm so so extremely pleased! finally a high end salon that's worth the money...I am definitely going to be a regular here =D

I have very curly hair and I like to wear it straight. I believe that most stylists cringe at the notion of blowdrying long curly hair. I asked the salon for a stylist who wouldn't shy away from the task and who would be able to do good work with my type of hair and they recommended Albert. I requested a layered cut that would frame my face and I wasn't disappointed. In fact, Albert took extra time and used both a blower and a straightening iron to ensure I got the look I wanted. He was patient and confident which put me at ease. What resulted was a wonderful cut and straight silky hair. And what was really amazing was that the end product withstood a rainy/100% humidity day. I will definitely be back!

I went here on a whim purely on the basis of the reviews on Citysearch hoping that 20 other reviewers were not wrong. After discussing and thinking about my haircut, Hiroshi gave me a cut that which has held up to my washing and self styling - I was very happy when I left, but wanted to see how much was Hiroshi's skillful styling. I'm very satisfied both with the cut and the salon in general. Service was courteous - no pointing in the direction of changing rooms - I was led to the location. No suggestions that I try their other services or purchase products. I arrived 3 minutes early and was taken 2 minutes early - how delightful. I will definately return.

It was my First time At Salon O2 , and it won't be my last.
I had my hair colored by Ariane. She give me the best tones of blonde highlights and touch up my roots perfectly. She was very nice and listen to what I wanted done. And Jeanise give me the best shampoo and blow-out. I am so happy that I will be recommending all my co-workers and friends.

I walked in at 5 pm one night after work, no appointment, and the stylist was happy to accomodate me. With my thick curly,highlighted for one too many years, mop sitting on top of my head - the stylist restored my naturally red hair back to its original color, with a mix of 4 types of highlights and lowlights,and two different tonors -

I wanted natural, yet noticeable color and without explanation, they knew exactly what to do here, for considerably less than other salons of this level of caliber

the staff was friendly, funny, and I will certainly be back to the salon

Salon 02 is a wonderful place!!! You will find a stylish and comfortable environment, warm and professional service, creative and top quality treatments. In particular, Masako is the most experienced, careful and effective of all those in NY doing the ""Japanese hair straightening"" process. She has combined her advanced knowlege of the treatment, with experience using it on caucasian as well as other hair. I highly recommend!

I went to O2 initially for my wedding hair (I knew what I wanted) and didn't give much though to the reputation of this new salon, but they made me feel really comfortable and so I gave them another shot when I wanted something really radically different, yet professional. I walked in with plain jane long hair and walked out with a fabulous layered look that's easy to care for, looks great on me, and gets rave reviews from my friends and co-workers. My only fear is that like Jennifer Anniston, I'll only be known for my fabulous haircut! Hiroshi is fabulous - worth every penny.

I wen to Salon O2 based on Citysearch's rave reviews (especially cfielderd's ""color & clip"" review). I haven't had a haircut for quite awhile, and I knew that whoever did my long, curly, frizzy hair would definitely have their work cut out for them. John Gerard has given me the best harcut I've ever had in my entire life! He took great care to give me just the right cut, and I walked out of that salon feeling like a million bucks! My friends and family can't get over how great my hair looks, and I've even gotten compliments from total strangers! The salon itself is just beautiful. Hiroshi and his staff are so kind and friendly, and I was put right at ease from the moment I walked in. I honestly can't say enough good things about Salon O2. Go there now!

I have to preface this review by sharing, one: I have never wanted nor felt compelled to write a review for any service previous to now and two (as a follow up to one): I have never had the experience I found at Salon 02 with Hiroshi. I visited on a Sunday, to find that I had written my appointment down incorrectly. Ah, it couldve been my biggest, most innocent mistake yet -- but luckily I stuck around for a little and Hiroshi found me. I have the most amazing hair that I have always wanted, Hiroshi turned my hair from a frizzy mess into a sustainable dream with the Japanese hair straightening. I've been looking for a stylist for sometime now, and a co-worker told me of a fantastic experience she had at Salon O2. I went to the website and decided to take a chance on the staff at Salon O2. I was truly amazed! The skill and care with which the staff approached me was truly unique. Kumi was excellent, meeting and surpassing my expectations for what a style treatment should be. As a veteran of many of NYC's top salons and an often disatisfied customer, I can say without hesitation that this is truly the most wonderful salon I have experienced. Anthony is a visionary with color! He is an artist in every sense of the word. Hiroshi, the owner, cut my hair exactly as I had envisioned without any direction from me. The staff was extremly helpful and never intrusive. In general, I recommend you run, not walk, to this superb salon!

If you're interested in getting your hair professionally straightened, this is the place to go! Ask for Masako--I followed her to Salon 02 from another salon because she is the very best! Her staightening treatment is very easy on the hair and lasts up to 6 months. And the salon is beautiful and very relaxing. If you want straight hair, Masako is the one to do it!

Loren is a master colorist. Not only was she able to give me perfect, even color ( and on dry curly hair that's a challenge) but she was able to change the shade of my hair just enough to make the same basic color a lot more flattering.

John Gerard gave me the best haircut I've ever had. My same over thick, curly hair that's given me nightmares since I was 10 has now been tamed and controlled just by the nature of it's cut! It's the first time in my life I've been satisfied with the way my hair looks, even in the morning, even in the rain.

I have experienced the most relaxed atomosphere at Salon O2 with head massage and foot massage on the recling shampoo chair at the same time. I had such skilled dimentional hair styling by Hiroshi. I have s hip and unique short hair now. Overall, I've got calm and happy feeling after the service over there.
