Tony's is the reason why New Yorkers shiver of thinking suburbs. Very very sad addition to the neighborhood. Institutional food with shopping mall like ambiance.

Went here with a friend to dine at the bar and enjoy the half priced wine Mondays- which really is enough to almost make me forget how bad the bartender was...almost. Arrived at the bar, no scene going on. When trying to order our bottle the bartender kept pushing $90 bottles. We politely passed. He then recommended a few dishes, but we had our mind on other items- p.s.-do not miss the risotto bolls (cant use the other word)- super yummers! We asked which deserts he liked to which he responded "well you havent taken any of my suggestions thus far, but if you ask me I love the nutella pizza" Ahhh yes, a warm response coupled with the most expensive desert recommendation. I miss the days of servers and bartenders clueing you in on what to get despite price. I know its a recession but appreciating the customer would go a long way.

Has the makings of a great place, just need to train the staff to appreciate the business and find a way to bring more young people for a livelier scene.

Wine is okay and food is edible but the service and attention is poor. Owners of this restaurant is not paying attention to servicing their clients in general. Unless you know the staff or the managers you will be sitting at the table and wondering when you will be served with drinks and food. In short the restaurant is understaffed with attendees.

This is such a perfect place for that neighborhood. Always a lively friendly crowd, a place to feel at home in since many are locals that come often. Chris the bartender is friendly and fun and enjoys helping you select the right wine to suit your palate that evening. I may have made a mistake telling so many about this place since it is always crowded now.

I've been here 3 times for dinner - only 1 out of 3 times was acceptable. The atmosphere is lovely, I'll give it that. But the food is inconsistent (I've only liked my entree once), and BEWARE of forgetful, disinterested waiters - you have to ask them twice to bring anything! Last night the waiter couldn't properly describe my entree (and I would never have ordered it if he had, that was $20 down the drain), forgot my husband's second glass of wine, brought us the wrong appetizer, forgot my husband's diet coke, and forgot to bring us our side of fried brussel sprouts too. That's pretty pathetic when they charge AS MUCH as they do! I wouldn't recommend this place for dinner if this kind of stuff irritates you.

I took a friend here for her birthday on Thursday. I had been once before when it first opened and hoped it was beyond its growing pains by now (the service had been poor). Unfortunately, the experience still leaves a lot to be desired, though the food is still great (especially the brussel sprouts appetizer). The night was ruined by the fact we were seated at 9 for an 8:30 reservation and the manager and hostess did not seem to care in the least bit. The hostess said the words "I'm sorry" but obviously was not as she did not look away from her computer terminal to make eye contact when she spoke to us. The wait staff was generally fine, but when I asked to be comp'ed something for the late seating, the manager came over and said they do not comp anything ever as a rule. They even could have taken the $3 they charged us for a side of marinara sauce - how cheap - to appease me. The real kicker - while I was explaining my disappointment with my experience to the manager, he actually started to walk away from the table! When I asked why, he said "what's left to say if you are not coming back?" Hmm, maybe you'll want to improve! Glad you're so keen to do well at your job.

There are other places to get food this good that don't leave you with a bad taste in your mouth.

Question to Citysearch - why does it have 4.5 stars when six out of the 11 people who have written reviews only gave it 1 star?

Pros: Food, nice setting

Cons: Management, waiting despite having reservations (and we weren't the only ones)

.

Not a good experience from start to finish, our seats were finally ready 1 hour after our reservation, and the manager was rude when we asked him to remove an additional charge on the bill. The food is fine, but there are many better places in terms of the overall experience, so until they realize that, go somewhere else instead.

A first time visit here for the four of us. It was chosen by someone else and when I read the reviews here I wondered why. I must have eaten at a different Accademia di Vino than the rest of you. The space is lovely, busy but never loud. We were seated promptly at a comfortable table and unlike many restaurants in New York, not right on top of another table. Our server was wonderful! She paid great attention to us and had fun doing it. She made very good recommendations when asked and was never intrusive yet always there for us. Water glasses always filled, wine topped off and the table kept clear and set ahead for each course. The food was great. Salads were perfectly dressed and interesting. I had the Tre Colore with goat cheese fritters. The fritters were crispy while light and fluffy and a perfect addition to the tartly dressed lettuces. For my main I had the sopressata pizza. Delicious. Thin, thin, thin crispy gilled crust topped with just the right amount of mozzarella, dollops of ricotta and slices of sopressata - and big enough to share. The four of us shared two desserts. I've had tiramisu 332 times in my life and this might be the best. The fudge brownie? Really fudgy, with ice cream, caramel sauce and fresh berries. Even the coffee was good. I manage a restaurant here in New York and I'm really not too easily pleased. Tonight I was. All of us were.

They do not honor reservations and were not ready to seat us at 9:15 for an 8:30 reservation. Instead of advising us that they were running way behind schedule, they kept telling us that our table would be ready within 5-10 minutes. The manager had a bad attitude and did not have the professional courtesy to apologize or offer us a drink. After waiting 45 minutes, we finally left. The food does not warrant that kind of treatment...too many other great places in NYC to choose from. Needless to say, we will not be back again.

My wife and I were in NYC to Valentine's Day, and decided to celebrate our Valentine's night dinner at Accademia di Vino. I must admit, that after reading most of the existing reviews here, I was a bit nervous. I tend to take these type review sites with a grain of salt and wanted to check it out for myself.

We were running a bit late for our reservation, as it was tough catching a cab Valentine?s evening. My wife called the hostess, and they were totally cool with it. We arrived, checked our coats, and were taken straight to our table. The decor was really cool I thought, in a wine cellar motif. We didn?t get to look around much upstairs in the wine bar portion, but it looked pretty cool as well.

Upon seating, our waiter helped us find a lovely Banfi Rosso di Montalcino wine that was in our budget. The wine was fantastic and definitely fit right in with the Italian environment and cuisine. Since it was Valentine's Day, we selected 4 options off the pre-fixed menu. These options ranged from oysters on the half-shell, prosciutto fritters, crab risotto, fettuccini de fungi, roasted quail, and filet of beef topped with foie gras. The desserts we selected were the brownie with caramel and the tiramisu. All of the food we selected was amazing, and the desserts were out of this world, including probably the best tiramisu that I've ever had. All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience and I?d definitely recommend it to anyone.

Cons: A little expensive, but it is NYC

The place is a great addition to the neighborhood despite the high maintenance clientel. Was it rude for the bartender to discretely offer you a napkin and a glass of water to rid your mouth of your Bubblicious? It is the bartender's business to ensure proper service of any of the products available.including the palate of someone who clearly doesn't understand that ice and Pinot grigio doesn't mix.The reputation of the restaurant is only hurt by people who offer an uninformed opinion.

I met a friend here last night after work for a quick glass of wine. I felt compelled to write a review because the rudeness of the bartender was nothing short of appalling. We sat upstairs and when we walked in I happened to be chewing gum. Now I am not one of those people who chews like a cow with my mouth open but when I approached the bar the bartender put down two napkins (for our supposed drinks) and handed me one. I ignored this gesture as I was in the midst of talking to my friend although I did think to myself "what was that for?". We sat down and again he hands me a napkin. Somehow I just knew it was about the gum. I looked at him and said, "I'm sorry, is gum-chewing not allowed in this restaurant?" And he replied "Not when I'm serving you wine." Was he kidding??? I said to him, "I would never chew gum while drinking wine, but really, is that any of your business?" That was pretty much the end of our communication outside of our ordering overpriced glasses of wine, which, I have to say, were very good. The subpar service continued though with his bringing the two of us one glass of water - was it for me to cleanse my palate after the gum? - and no food menu. My friend and I had a good laugh over the whole thing but I just don't understand servers who work against themselves when it comes to tips and in the process hurt the reputation of the restaurant.

Heads Up...A glass of "grassy Beltrame Cabernet Sauvignon" is NOT $7.50. Went last night and it is $15 a glass. Some Insider Tip. Would not have got 7 glasses of it. Not a "Steal". No Prices on wine menu.

I enjoyed most of the other short lived restaurants that have occupied this space, and when I saw it was going to be an italian restaurant/wine bar, I was very excited. That lasted about 5 minutes. We waited more than 45 minutes for our reservation and then were brought into the back room, which they had just opened. It was freezing and there was no waiter for the section. We ordered our wine (thankfully they did have gavi) and received two completely different tasting gavis (one good and one bad), so we sent one wine back and received a better replacement wine. The appetizers were lackluster, but the olives were good. My friend had to send back her salmon because it was practically raw and I couldn't even eat my spaghetti carbonara because it tasted like salted noodles. I was so afraid to try anything else, I didn't even eat a main course - I went down the street to hot and crusty. Even after the horrible experience, they still charged me for my uneaten meal (which we rectified) and charged my friend more than they stated for the special (which they also rectified). I can't wait to see what restaurant turns up here next... and I hope it comes soon!

This place is like an Italian TGIF. For a place named Accademia di Vino, why would they only have a half a dozen or so wines by the glass? The food was how should I say....SUCKED! If you want good Italian food go tp A Voce, Bellavitae, Barbuto or Peasant, you won't go wrong.

I eat at a LOT of restaurants -- and many of them just like this. Four of us went to this place on a Friday night -- the nice guy at the front asked us to go back to be seated by Melissa...and when we arrived at the second desk, she snapped at me that I needed to wait 10 minutes. I replied that her associate asked me to come down to her and she ripped my head off condescendingly saying "Do you want me to explain this to you or not?", I couldnt help but laugh at her. When we were finally seated, 20 min. after our reservation time, we were greeted by Kimberly who recom. the perfect red wine for what we wanted. Sadly, the meal went down hill from there. Our first course, we ordered some of the assorted cheese and meats. The cheese was great, but there was nothing special about the meat. We each ordered a main - three pastas and the tuna steak. The tuna was ok, but each of the pastas were just fair. The carbonera the worst of them all. When it was time to pay our bill, we couldnt track down Kimberly! To be fair, it was busy and she was nice enough to ALMOST make up for the ridiculous attitude of the hostess. We won't go back, the food was nothing special and I've gotten FAR better service and food at Bar Stuzzichini in the flat iron. I'd rather go back there.

There were three of us ladies having a night of it. We stumbled upon this restaurant "Accademia di Vino" and waited for a bit before being shown to our table. After being seated we waited 15 min before receiving our waiter. We ordered a wine but the wine was very low in the glass for the price $12. The food we decided to be safe on and just ordered a pizza, and steak which was sliced but needed a steak knife. We called the waiter over and asked for the steak knife. The waiter told us they did not as of yet have the steak knives(then why are you serving steak?). The waiter went on to say the chef had already sliced it for us as we can see. It was said in a rude manner. After the main course we had some dessert which honestly was not that great. The food really was not that great and it most certainly was not something I would call authentic italian food. Try this place if you will but I donot recommend it. The food was poor and the service was worst all except some loud italian guy who seemed to be the only one interested in what he was doing, but sadly he was not our waiter.
