I love the soup bowl sized coffee and steaming hot chocolate here. This is a perfect little bistro - incedible croque monsieur. The pepper steak also terrific. Very French atmosphere. Perfect place to slip into after a walk around the west village.

Been living in the West Village for more than 10 years now and seldom do you find a restaurant worthy of repeated visits multiple times a week. Metropol is quickly becoming one of our favorite spots for its beautiful room, relaxed but welcoming and impecable service and its great food. Their new menus offer a delicious coq au vin and a spectacular scallops appetizer. They also do have a pretty interesting cocktail list, many of them fruit driven and refreshingly good. The wine list is friendly and accessible. The only damper to the evening was the thumping music of Shakira, LL Cool J, and Missy Elliot which baffles me and makes me wonder how these artists play in to the French vibe of the restaurant.

Hvae been there 4 or 5 times in the past couple of months. By far the best restaurant in the west village and one of the best in Manhattan for that matter. Great Date place and also a great place to go with friends. Cool relaxing ambiance with great music and fantastic service. Everything on the menu is delicious. Among the great choices are the burger sliders, crabcakes, onion tart. Desserts are top notch also. Bread budding is great as well as some apple thing I've had twice.

Went to Metropol after the village voice selected it best bistro in the village and it was correct. Great music which got better as the night went on. Loved the steak frites and onion tart and my friend had a crazy looking grilled calamari but said it was excellent. Definately would go back, especially on a date.

OK first of all, the mussels are excellent. I don't know what the person below is talking about. But besides that...Myself along with two girlfriends decided get a bunch of stuff and share. The "famous sliders" are delicious and cute too! The tilapia special they had that night was one of the best fish entrees I've ever had. AND the bar steak is just the right size and makes my mouth water thinking about it! Don't get me started on how friendly the staff is. I"ll definitely return!

While the atmosphere, decor, menu, and location are quite good, the food is sub-par. Order simple things, and avoid the mussels. Quite possibly the worst mussles I have ever had, and they ruined my appetite for the rest of dinner. Waitstaff was friendly about it though and offered another appetizer, a drink, and a discount on the final tab.

Went to Metropol and had the namesake "Metropol", the espresso martini. It was so delicious, we almost decided to skip the meal and and focus on the vodka food group. But then the fresh grilled calamari got us back on track- it was the best I ever had. The steak au poivre was amazing... A great bistro on a great block in an atypical setting- and a very cool bar. Highly recommend.

Great service, sexy staff, excellent food. The calamari is where it's at. The owner came by and was really nice. Great date spot!

Great Hang...especially with all the windows open. The music and vibe make up for sometimes inatentive French types. Just order the appetizers -- grilled calamari, onion tart etc -- wines are also well priced.

Pros: great priced wine lis, great night vibe, music works

Cons: staff attention, not enough bar seats

I visited the first week it opened and it was horrible...frissee salad drenched in oil...white wine was warm..but in recent weeks it has improved quite a bit, and is very nice inside. Good place to try if you want typical bistro food....unfortunately, nothing really new or creative on the menu.

Metropol is just a cool - yet basic - little French Bistro. In the style of some of the McNally places in Manhattan, this place has a touch of hipness and no bad attitude. Perfect little steak-frites joint in neighborhoody W Village. And it's not overpriced!

Pros: Open Late, Good Basic Food, Friendly service

They are creating too much noise for the neighborhood according to my friend who lives nearby. So I say avoid places that do not care about thier neighbors.

As a huge brunch fan, I am constantly scouring the city for new places to try. Well, Metropol did not disappoint. They have the best Eggs Benedict that I have had in the city. Their use of the potato cake instead of the English muffin was sheer genius. Good service and a cute atmospere too. Only minus is that the eggs didn't come with fries/home fries. They had to be ordered separately.

And its actually not because the wait was horrible; even though it was. It isnt because the wait staff (aside from the sincere and attempting to be on the ball hostess) really wasnt first rate; even though they certainly werent very good.
I rate them low because the food was simply not good.

At a table of 4, all were under-whelmed. The highlight of the evening was the french-fries (and how often do you say that?) and the lowlight everything else on the table aside from the wine.

With such competition in the neighborhood I can not imagine why anyone would go here.

A friend told me about Metropol and I ate there this past Saturday night. There was a nice crowd at both the bar and in the main part of the restaurant sitting to eat, and the music was really good. Then the food came and it was delicious! Top it off with a nice wine list, attentive service, and just a great vibe, this place was fantastic! Get there soon before everyone finds out about it! I'll probably go back this weekend....

Metropol is exactly what the neighborhood needs. Although it just opened last week, I had a great meal there. The menu is varied and interesting, and, although not cheap, is reasonably priced, especially considering the large portions. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I really liked the ambiance: good music, cool photographs and spacious tables. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good, french meal in the west village. Check it out!
