Honestly it's hard to find a good Japanese place in Chelsea. This is one of the few choices we have. Food is not amazing but pretty good. Reasonable price and pleasant decor. Not fancy but great place to go with close friends.

Pros: Great food

Cons: some tables are small

Stopped by this place on a recent visit to NYC. I used to live on 20th and 5th, so this was in my 'hood'. On a recent visit i went back with a friend, and we had a perfectly lovely dinner. Without noticing the bill came up to $300 which I don't think is justified. I eat sushi in LA almost every week. Even at Nazawa (see my review) which is a killer sushi, tab comes up to max $200 for two. So i would certainly consider this place a very good option if you are in the area and want a nice modern atmosphere and good place to linger, just think through the ordering process

Pros: Nice place to be, eat, and taken care of..

Cons: Not the best value...

We went out for a special girls' night, and it was a great experience. Our waiter was helpful and attentive, and the food was fantastic. Especially recommended - the White Stone Roll. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food we had. All of the sushi was very fresh, and we especially enjoyed the tuna. A nice selection of sake, and the black sesame ice cream was a great finish to the meal.

The fish quality is amazing. Flavors on the kitchen food are pretty authentic. Never been to the one on the UWS, but I LOVE coming to the one in Chelsea. Its the best Japanese restaurant on the west side.

That Tuesday night is probably one of fantastic night that I had. I always appreciate something that beautiful, hand skill job. Cause I am an artist my self. That young chef had shown me something beautiful of sushi, unorthodox. I tried the omakase, it's expensive but the presentation is beyond worth it, and I recomend that to everyone, it's a chef choice of best fish of the day. Love it, be back soon. Momoya is so much better now than before, one of my favorite place to go, ciao.

On Friday night, I was waiting like half an hour just to get sushi. First time there, recommend by friends. I was hopping it better be good. But after wait with patient, a nice young lady finally gave me the seat at the bar which three young chef gotten beat up, because it was really busy night i could tell. I was wondering if i could get nice sushi, but turns out the chef was so attentive and nice even though He was so busy at the moment and I got my self the Omakase. Great presentation, nice and clean, so skillfull, the fish was so fresh and He got me the best fish of the day.
It's really worth the wait, definitely I'll be back.

The sushi here is reliably fresh and the prices are reasonable. We probably eat here 1-2x a week and have never had to wait for a table or seat at the sushi bar. Service could be a little better, but food and drinks typically come out fast. The special rolls are really good- favorites are the lobster roll, nakamura roll, and Momoya's spicy tuna roll.

Pros: good sushi and value

Momoya was indeed an experience of its own. The ambience alone is something that's immediately felt once you're seated. The chef's omakase hits straight for the delicacies and no minor detail is left unattended. The sake list isn't overtly extensive, but it does shoot for the main attractions that deal with body and dryness. Overall, a great evening was spent without my wallet feeling too exhausted. Highly recommended.

I was really thrilled to spend last night in the ER after eating the Tekka Don at this Restaurant... I've eaten here many many times, but i've never had an experience like this before.... i don't think i'll be returning to this restaurant... if you like visiting the Emergency Room you'll love this place...

Their food is fresh, clean presentation and friendly service. I wouldn't mind bring my folks, friends, 3rd date for some casual, but good dining experience.

Pros: Consistent

Cons: A large group can be tricky

I live right across the street and though i like to experiment other places, this is by far the best place for miso black cod. Everything is fresh and great for the price. Whenever I have a sushi craving, i stop by...like 1-2 times a week.

I would like to take a different approach to Momoya's previous reviews. I find this restaurant to be completely the opposite: seemingly cool from the outside, but disappointingly average on the inside. Don't get carried away by the decor. Yes, it is nice, but we go to restaurants to eat. When you eat, you will realize Momoya is nothing special. The best thing this restaurant has going for itself is its location. I've eaten here four times (the second, I thought it needed a second chance; the third and fourth, it was convenient), and every time I keep telling myself not to go back. The fish is OK, but sushi/sashimi are foods not worth eating unless it's at least "good." The service is worse than the food. Each of my visits something was off. Thinking about trying Momoya? Try ordering Japanese take-out, chances are it will be better than there.

This is a great find of a restaurant. It looks completely average from the outside but is actually a cool space. The food is very fresh, the speciality rolls (particularly the ryukyu) are creative, and the service was excellent. It's a shade below the best sushi restaurants, but well worth the price and much better than most other sushi restaurants that charge the same price.

Hip place in a great neighborhood. Finally a good sushi place hits Chelsea. Also, the prices won't kill the wallet. I'd highly recommend the place. Try it.

I just came back from this new addition to chealse and I my stomach is full and bank is still too. Me and my wife had 3 appetizers like Sardine tempura salad and Black cod with spinach then I had the amazing Sea bass and she had some sushi and we spent less than some appetizers from any of the other places that we have been to latley.
I think I found my new favorite place to eat.

P.S. Try their home made Cheese cakes, We had the caramel next time I'm getting the Penutbutter and chocolate

New the hood, I thought this would be my new hang out, stylish, semi-cheap and seemingly hip. The food is usually great, but really chaotic, servers always apolgize for the slap shod way it comes. There seems to be no manager, just a host who doesn't know how long the wait will be, and waiters stationed by the door puttin in orders. The sushi is awesome enough that I'll go back, but the place doesn't seem to want to match the decor.

As we walked into the well decorated, fashionable & 'calm' home-place, we had the best tasting Sea Bass - it was one of kind; I highly recommend it. And also fresh sashimi at reasonble prices was great as well. The volume of the food was just right! Overall, it was a very enjoyable and tasty experience.
