I a joint party with my friend last saturday, and we had a blast!!! The guy who was in charge kept makin sure we were good, the music was perfect , everybody was dancin and singin along. The prices were I thought low and surprisingly good pours. You tend to stress when you plan these things, its nice when it works out and I thought worth givin you guysa shout back.

I had my birthday here last saturday, and it was amazing! From the organizing with Sharon to the accomodating staff. We were in the mezzanine and Sean the Owner/bartender was So nice. The music was amazing and the doorman was even nice which never happens! I didnt even realize I got to drink for free cause it was my birthday and brought the party in. I really reccomend this place and will be coming back! Thanks guys

I just had to take a moment from my very hectic life to turn people on to my favorite spot on the LES called Skinnys Bar &
Lounge @ 174 Orchard st, Ny. I went there one Sunday night a few months ago and then, swear to God, had gotten my days off at work changed so I could become a regular there every Sunday!

The DJ's there are off the Motha **ucking Hook!!!

The DJ"s there are DJ Uncle Tone and Chilly B and what a mix they play!! The eclectic mix of various genres that they play is OFF THE CHAIN! They play everything from old school hip Hop, to classic rock to current favs and just when you think it can't get any better, your head is soon spinning cause it just won't stop! I have ceased to end up soaked in sweat from hard dancing every Sunday...... and it's not just me.... they get EVERYBODY on their
feet and despite the diverse mix of people there, their music seems to please everyone... and I do mean everyone!

They're so masterful at their craft that it's as though they're tag teaming your dancing soul. They're constantly playing songs you forgot existed and are grateful for the reunion. I have not missed one Sunday since the first time and have never had the same experience there twice. Always, always, always happy that I changed my work days to get my fix of this musical, dancing escape into my life.
I HIGHLY suggest you check it out for yourself and if after you go, you think that I lied or even exaggerated about anything I said, than I'll certainly be willing to buy you a fresh battery for your hearing aid!

I was had been sitting at the bar with 3 of my friends watching the opener of Monday Night Football. The bartender if you can call him that was the most immature person I have ever seen. To start off we asked for the PBR special and he tells us "really, thats so cheap" like he is an old friend. Then a little later his buddies come it and its all about "tapping this and yo you f***ing crazy bi**" He must not care to do his job as he sat on the bar talking to his friends. Several times we had to get his attention for service. As he was either talking on the phone or talking to his friends. One of my friends was on the way back from the bathroom and overheard him tell his buddies "they are drinking cheap they can wait, what do you boys need". He served his friends and then paid attention to us. A couple came in and I guess they knew him since he shook hands and said hello to them. I hope he knew them since he said to them "I am leaving in a few min so lets settle up, I will charge you $5 as long as you make it up in a tip. Otherwise you would just pay full price and I will figure it out later". I asked the guy if what he said I heard correctly and he just nodded. I had heard that Monday night was a cool rock night so that is the other reason we got there early. Heard it gets busy and figured, game/good music/good prices....will be busy get there early. Well I will say this, I will go to Skinny at night after 10pm. I love the bar and will continue to go, never again before 10, cheap drinks or not.

Came here on vacation just sippin on drinks. They do a good job making traditional drinks like a long island or a vodka martini, but they can do the not so traditional stuff too. I wouldnt come here again with my friends, but i'd hang here on vaca.

I threw a party there last night and the staff was very attentive to our needs.. the bottle prices were great, hundreds cheaper than other places in Manhattan. The manager accomodated our crazy requests, and the bartender was great (didnt catch her name), the bouncers were friendly (which is RARE). The decor was nothing to speak of, the crowd was a little obnoxious (rowdy college-aged drunk girls bumping into you) but that's not Skinny's fault of course. The DJ was annoying, we were spending $$ and requested a few songs for our party, but he looked at us like we were crazy (very "how dare you question my song choices, you're not possibly cooler than me" kind of way)... I didn't get his name either.
Um, I wouldn't recommend you go there expecting an all nighter at some great lounge in the city, next time I'd probably stop in for cheap drinks and then keep it moving...
Don't dress up, and don't take anyone older than 30 - they won't be all that thrilled with the crowd...

I had a party for my birthday on saturday. Everyone from the bartenders to the door were so nice and helpful. I had 40 friends show up(which is more than i planned) and they made sure we didn't stress. My friend got a free bracelet for her birthday and the drink prices were amazing for NYC, plus the DJ really played the crowd. Thank you guys for everything!!!

I liked the vibe of this place. Just really layed back and the bouncer was really cool at the door. This place is very small though and people seem to love to stand in the 2 foot area between the bar and the wall when the front of the place is empty. Also I only gave 3 stars because the DJ was terrible. I took a night off from my job (djing) on saturday and I hope they weren't paying the girl because a Itunes playlist could have done the same thing. The guy that seemed to come on at 12 was for sure better but I wasen't feeling the 80's pop music at 12:30 on a saturday.

Held my 23rd bday celebration last night and everything went perfectly. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first, reading all the reviews--the birthday party breakdown just sounded too good to be true: drink specials for my friends and I drink for free?! But everything worked out as such even despite setting up the specifics with the booker (who didn't provide much detail about anything over the phone). The bartender (didn't get her name unfortunately) was great and even offered to call the owner to set things up. The two of them were so accommodating.

Being a Tuesday night and a holiday, the place was really all to ourselves. I definitely suggest the mezzanine space for a larger, more raucous gathering (pool table!) over the low-lit back couches. Above all--the drinks are craaaaaazy cheap!!! Where else in the city can you throw a party with a reserved space, free birthday drinks and open bar options AT NO CHARGE!!!?? Yeah, nowhere but here.

I am having ALL my parties here from now on.

My friend and I threw a joint birthday party at the Skinny last Saturday. From the initial conversation with Sean to the end of the evening, the Skinny was perfect. The mezzanine was reserved for the party of about 35 people. My friend and I received wrist bands to drink for free all night and they arranged an optional top shelf open bar for the rest of my guests. The DJ played a perfect mix of hip hop, 80s, and pop. The Skinny is great for a night out; it's an excellent place to throw a drama-free, fun party. The bartenders and bouncers were friendly and accommodating. Thanks to everyone at the Skinny. You guys rock.

Just trolling the lower east side last night and happened upon the skinny at about midnight. Cool spot, good D.J., relaxing vibe, and bartenders were cool. One of the bartenders was an owner and he had a shot with me. I suggest if you're ever down there, check it out. Oh and drink deals were great! I'm definitely making The Skinny my spot when i go down there from now on.

I went there to have my birthday. I spoke to a party rep repeatedly and let her know how many people would be there, and there really wasn't enough space, thankfully people came late and some couldn't stay all night. Then we ordered Tequila shots for $5 each which was cool. A new bartender came on, we went out and came back and the shots jumped tp $6 each with no explanation. It was cool because Jack Daniels Shots were $3 each, so we had those. We went back for more shots, and the bartender refused to serve us unless we left a tip. We left her a tip and got our drinks, but felt really upset about our drinks being held hostage like that. We went outside again and saw a sign saying that shots were $3 till 1am. We went back for more shots at 12:30 and the bartender told us that the special was over, and couldn't explain to us why the special was over when it was supposed to go on until 1am.

Overall I liked the atmosphere even though it was dead until like 11pm. It's not really a place for dancing since its really tiny and gets really crowded later at night and 80's music isn't my thing to dance to. As a hangout spot or a place to grab a drink real quick it's okay, but as a place to celebrate an occasion, there are better places out there.

Went to the Skinny with several of my friends recently for a few drinks and while it wasn't my favorite place, I can't say I had any major issues with it either. The staff was friendly and attentive at the front door and inside. The drinks were prepared well and at pretty good prices. It was a little quiet when we first got there but it got busier after midnight, with a decent crowd rolling in. It's pretty narrow inside and not the roomiest place (hence the name "The Skinny") but getting to the bar to order drinks wasn't an issue. Decor was certainly nothing to talk about either, but again no major issues with The Skinny.

Went here for the first time last night, and this place is awesome!!! It's kinda small and narrow, but it was low-key and the dj was playing great danceable non-crappy (think 80's, motown, pop, weezer, etc) music. My friends and I must have danced for three hours straight. Drinks were inexpensive, and the bartenders and owner were super nice to my friends and I, supplying us with free shots till after closing and humoring our overly drunk/half passed out friend. Definitely the kind of place you'd want to go to regularly. Thanks for making my night!

I had my bday party at the Skinny this past weekend. I decided on this place based on other reviews on citysearch. Sharon was great in helping me reserved mezz and answering all my questions. However, she did give me misleading information when she told me there were 5-6 tables upstairs. There were only 2 couches and 3 mini tables, and a few chairs. I had 30+ guests and was quite concerned with the space, but I figured if the DJ could work the crowd (like most other reviews strongly said they did), I shouldn't have to worry. I was quite disappointed to this matter. The music did not work up the crowd at all, at least not my party, played 80s all night long. My friends and I love to dance, but it just didn't happen here. I expected better music and dance vibe on a Sat. night. We ended up leaving before 2am to go dancing at a club. I gave this place 3 stars to be fair, as the drinks were cheap and our server, Anna, was really attentive and friendly. The lack of space didn't bother me that much as the night went on, as I did have a good time chilling with my friends. It was pretty nice to have the party at the mezz since you're in a private area and you don't get bothered by other crowds. You can't expect everything, esp. a bar that doesn't require min. spending or bottle service to reserve a private space. Overall, my friends and I still had a good time for the 4-5 hrs that we were there. Most complained that the music was not good, otherwise, we would've stayed longer or possibly the whole night. And some of my guy friends said that gay guys were hitting on them from downstairs, which I thought was pretty funny. I would suggest anyone who plans to have a party here, go check out the place before making reservations.

I did my 22nd birthday there , Dude these people know how hold the crowd , the bouncer is just the most coolest bouncer . the owner was one of the bartenders , he kept the drink splashing .... He was mad chill , i had like 15 people with me .... The drinks were cheap ( when i say cheap means cheap ) ... the crowd was good not too crazy .

I had a joint birthday party at The Skinny this past weekend and they couldnt have been more accomodating. The staff took care of us and the service was great. We had about 60 people so I was a little worried about the space, but the vibe was so chill that everyone had such a great time and the dj's work with the crowd so well, I would certainly have another party here. I went here after I read the reviews on city search... service was nice, atmosphere was even better, but i did feel that the skinny was a little short on space (but it does live up to its name, so I guess that has to count for something!) I'm not sure its a great space for parties, although some of the other reviews here say it is... but if you're with a couple of people and looking for a chill, low key place with great decor, its definitely worth a visit.

My friend and I threw our birthday party here on 10/27. Sharon was very helpful in helping me reserve the mezzanine and my server, Anna Jean, was so attentive and friendly. I really appreciated the frees drinks for the birthday boy and girl. The bar is true to its name, so I highly recommend calling ahead and reserving a portion of the bar. The space was conducive to the size of our party (about 75 people). With cool art, a pacman table, and lava lamps, the decor is "minimalistic kitsch." The vibe is unpretentious, and on the night of the party the crowd was diverse and fun-loving.

I threw my friend a bday party here. I reserved the Mezzanine. The space was great and the entire staff was wonderful. The only thing that kind of bugged us was that the DJ wouldn't take a request. It really wasn't a big deal though. She had an awesome time as did all the attendees. I highly recommend this bar!

...awesome. Had my 25th here this past weekend and everyone and their grandmother's had a great time. I finally figured out why they call it the Skinny so if you want to host a birthday, you HAVE to reserve either the mezzanine or the back area. It just makes it that much better. The SKINnY brings a comfortable atmosphere, friendly patrons and an amazing staff of bartenders. Surrounded by the works of artists flickering in the light of the candlelight bar, drinks are poured with a friendly introduction. Frequent DJs spin tunes on the upper deck, clients sing along; no one is a stranger herer. With a pool table upstairs, comfortable lounge benches and a bar that, when your drunk, seems to stretch all the way to the restrooms; this rock and roll bar offers a lot more than meets the eye.

My Girlfriend's friend had a Birthday Party here Friday and everyone had a great time. The Birthday girl was running late due to the ridiculous weather and the Owners let her push the open bar time up to accomodate her. The DJ played every type of music and everything went as planned. I reccommend this place for anyone looking to plan a night for themselves or someone else.

I know I can pop into this bar any night of the week and be greeted with big smiles from the bartenders and owners, this is ol school service where being a repeat customer means you become a friend. No lame bar minimum, bottle service upsell, no private room nonsense, bathroom attendants ... its a LES equal opportunity - make it work - good times - artist supporting - better than average cocktails - easy going kinda venue. Just the other night I was there with friends as house sent a round of shots to everyone at the bar just because ... this the kind of thing that can still happen at an owner operated business.

So next time you and your crew are on Orchard st ... step up to The Skinny, just be sure to kick the glam curbside.

I booked to have the birthday party of me and a friend because of all of the stellar reviews on this site. It's a very crowded bar, which is what I expected, but they did not deliver what was promised to us. We were told we had the mezzanine of the bar to ourselves, but little later (after I already brought up our guests) they said the upstairs was for a different birthday party and that we were downstairs. The downstairs area shouldn't even be for private parties. It's right near the bathrooms, so everyone waiting for the bathroom pushed crowded out our guests. Many of the friends I was looking forward to seeing left once they saw how crazy it was. This was really upsetting because we didn't invite our guests to have them come all that way and feel forced to leave! I found myself having to call my guests the next day to apologize for the atmosphere. The party that got the mezzanine instead of us were mostly in the crowd downstairs anyways, so I'm not sure why we were forced downstairs when we had more guests than they did. Unfortunately I couldn't demand the upstairs because the person who booked the room for us wasn't there that night so we didn't know what to do. Our guests were supposed to get $1 off drink specials but it was so confusing that many of our guests did not get the deal because no one knew who was with what party.
During our party, something in the bathroom caught on fire, tempers were flaring with people waiting in line for the bathroom, and we were left in the pitch black because none of the lights were working in that area. Also, we had to keep telling people who were not from our party to leave.
The only reason I am giving this place a 1.5 and not lower is because our waitress was very nice and she worked hard to get our drinks to us quickly despite the billions of orders she was juggling. I spent most of the night making sure my guests were happy rather than having any fun myself.

A friend of mine and I were having a joing birthday party at this place and (supposedly) reserved the upstairs private room/balcony for our party. When we got there they had given our reservation to someone else and moved our party area to the back downstairs, which is by the bathrooms. All night there was a long bathroom line running through our party... As if it wasn't already crowded enough, this pretty much ruined the atmosphere.

Also, at some point, I think the bathroom caught on fire... but it was extinguished... and it stunk for the rest of the night.

And one of the bouncers yelling at one of my friends to stop dancing/calm down... even though he was just dancing (he wasn't out of control).

Also, the name is pretty accurate. It's hard to stand ANYWHERE in this place without ALWAYS being someone else's way, which is annoying when you're just trying to drink your drink and talk to a friend. At one point, a friend and i discovered that the best place to not be in anyone's way was to huddle under the stairs.

The waitress and bar staff were pretty friendly and good otherwise, but I would not recommend this place for any kind of get-together.

I had a party there last Saturday and the everyone had a great time. The staff was friendly, the drinks werent crazy expense, and the music was awesome. The bathroom lines were long but it was Saturday and the place was packed, which was why it was fun. I would definitely party there again.

I had never heard of this place, but decided to have my bday party there this past weekend. One of my most favorite parties ever!!!! The bartenders/owner/manager were accomodating and made the party so much fun. Drinks were cheap, music consisted of some of my favs, & I absolutely loved the different areas of the bar where you could hang out. My friends are crazy (and very hard to please) and they all really enjoyed themselves. They even asked me if we could all go there again sooner than later. Will definitely be back and would definitely throw another party here.

Had my birthday party here this past Saturday night. It was great. All my friends had a lot of fun. I reserved the mezzanine upstairs and the staff was curtious enough to put a bouncer at the bottom of the stairs making sure everyone who went up was part of my party. The music was solid and the atmosphere was very chill. The bartenders who were very good (quick and friendly) started my drink special a half hour earlier then was necessary, so i was sure to stay late and pay for drinks aftwerwards to return the favor. The only down side to this location is the bathrooms, the line grows long as both single bathrooms are unisex. All in all the place is great for a party, and I will be returning to hang with smaller groups.

My girlfriend and I came here on a Wednesday around 10. There was a DJ playing decent music and the place started to gradually fill up. Drinks are affordable, $4 for a Bud Light Bottle and we got a buyback on our 4th round. Staff is friendly overall. Not the killer type of place that some of the reviews indicate, but a good place to hang out.

Great place to hang with a crowd. Kinda hard to keep more than two people together due to lack of space. Bar service was pretty good considering size of crowd. Absolutely worth checking out.

If you're looking for a non-pretentious spot to have cheap drinks and talk it up with your friends, this place is it. It's not even that hard to get a nice spot in the back on one of their couches, or head upstairs for some pool. The bar area is kind of narrow but if you've ever gone out anywhere in this area you know how to navigate that. There's even some old school arcade games to go with your PBR or cheap well drink. Seems to be a good place to meet other single people. Music is pretty cool, different every time I go there, and they have real DJ's that spin vinyl up above the bar. The night I went, they were playing some cool old-school hip hop that kept the energy up. Highly recommended.

These folks are by far the friendliest bar staff you will ever meet. I hosted my 25th birthday party here over the weekend, and Sean was sure to take care of all of our needs. We had our own space in the back, and my only complaint is the location of the bathroom - the line to wait bisected my group. The music was awesome, the vibe energizing. And the open bar policy is unbeatable in Manhattan! Great drinks, great people, great night!!

I've been to this place so many times, and have always had excellent experiences. The bartender is so cute (the blonde with blue eyes), the drink is dirt cheap, and the people there are really cool (not the bridge and tunnel kinda people). They play good music, from 80's to house music, not to mention that they have a cool very cheap jukebox (i think it's $1 for 5 songs). This is definitely the best deal in LES area, and you totally wanna be seen in this place. Oh yeah, one more thing, the bouncer is really cool and friendly.

The dj's are great & fun, the bar & door staff are a dream, drinks are stiff & cheap, crowd is diverse & interesting and attitude clocks in at 'absolute zero'. Mid week here is very chill and laid back & you can't beat the 2-for-1 happy hour. Fri's apparently don't crowd up 'til late, which is great if you want the place all to yourself! But even w/a bachelorette party(?) going on, we still had PLENTY of room! Service here is wonderful and some of the coolest 'real' people. Moved out of NY 3 yrs. ago..this place alone would be a reason to move back home. The best of what the lower east should be.

My friends and I have been coming to the Skinny since it opened. You can't beat the laid back, friendly atmosphere, cheap drinks and accommodating staff. The cool as hell bartenders keep it interesting with fun conversation, great music (jukebox, live and d.j.), and eclectic everychanging artwork. Stop by for a drink and you'll want to stay all night.

My friend and I had our birthday party at The Skinny and it was amazing. We had our own section reserved for 30 of our friends. The bartenders and waitress were amazing. The open bar policy was perfect and totally worth the money. Best birthday party I have ever had and everyone had the best time ever! Have your birthday party here!! The owners were very nice and accomodating!

I had my b-day party at The Skinny and it was my best party ever. The bartenders were amazing; they made me and my girls feel like we owned the place. Dancing on the bar, body shots and a little well placed ice to cool me down!!!!!!!!!!

Having lived, worked, and socialized in several major US cities, I can tell you that finding a place with a group of down to earth, unpretentious people can be tough to find. This is especially the case if the city is NYC. The Skinny did not disappoint great atmosphere, cheap drinks, and cool, nice people. Every city has it establishments that believe that they are the cutting edge of culture and in small doses these places can be fun, but not every city has a bar with true character. The Skinny has character.

I have had many parties at this bar. The staff is fun, the music is great, and the atmosphere is totally fun. I've had many friends meet people at The SKINnY - great singles scene. The new pool table and games at the bar make the bar that much more fun! I will continue to be a regular at this cool lower east side bar!

My girlfriend and I had a party at The Skinny and the staff could not have been nicer or more accomodating. The place is small, but very nice and never seemed to get too packed. This is a nice step away from the normal Lower East Side garbage and I consider it a personal discovery. I found The Skinny by accident and have pledged to stop in whenever life brings me downtown. I also have to mention the art on display - not only is it a great bar, it's an art gallery too. In sum, the next time you're in the Lower East Side, check this place out...the cheap drinks and great staff will have you coming back for sure.

My girlfriend had her 25th bday party here and it was nothing less than fantastic. The music was great with a combination from 80's to classic hits, etc... We had the whole back room, with Dori our waitress, who was honestly amazing. She had to accomodate our whole party and was soo on point with drinks and anything else that was needed. The drinks were cheap which was a relief from the normal city prices which are ridiculous. More A/C in the back room could be their improvement, it was soo hot! Overall, more parties to be planned there in the future!

This place is awesome! The Skinny is a blend of hip atmosphere and a relaxed feel with cheap drinks an almost impossible combo to find in NYC. The bar is almost as unpretentious as the bartenders and staff. Was here last week for a birthday party and they made sure that our sizeable group was well taken care of. Highly recommend it! Make sure you are in on the SKInNY!

Cheap drinks, good music and a staff the treats you like you are at "Cheers". First off it is always nice to find cheap drinks downtown with out feeling like you ARE getting what you paid for. The service is some of the best I have ever had in NYC. The owners were there both times I have been and are always willing to sit down and chat with you. Sean who I talked to the longest is such a down to earth guy. You would never know that he is an owner of this up and coming hot spot. From the bartenders to the doorman everyone is so friendly. The music is cool as well. A hot oldschool mix keeps the crowd guessing. I can't say enough about Skinny. Go check it out!!!!!!!!

I was one of the first people to hang out here at the Skinny when it first opened. "Great music, Unpretentious" was my initial review years ago. After some time of not frequenting the Skinny, I came back last night (Saturday) to find that nothing has changed except for more business.

The music was EXCELLENT. After roaming through several bars in the LES and stopping in places like La Caverna and being disappointed by the crappy music all around, I decided to take my girlfriends, as a last stop, (we were having a bachelorette celebration) back to my old stand-by. As soon as the bouncer recognized me and let me past the door, I knew we were going to have a blast here.

Poisen (the song, not the group-I know that's not how you spell the word, but citysearch thought the word was inappropriate so I had to alter the spelling to get it posted) was on and I ran back out to hurry the rest of my friends. We parked ourselves along the wall of the skinny part and danced the night away.

There's still an owner there every night to keep things real and while I didn't recognize the bartenders, they were all wonderful. The outside bouncer came in to monitor the mezzanine party and stopped to ask if I was having fun yet. How sweet!!! I STILL LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!

I heard about the skinny from my friends, and so I gave it a try thinking it was going to be this pretentious trendy spot. I was wrong It's the most comfortable chill spot in the Les. the prices were crazy low and Sharon was the coolest bartender in NYC. Definitely worth checking out. Highly recommended!!!

Unlike most bars downtown, the barstaff here was extremely friendly and it's one of the few places that was open until 4am. The DJ was awesome. The atmosphere was great. Our drinks were cheap, but we didn't feel were in a dive bar.
Highly recommend.
