I've been searching for a Salon in Ithaca for quite some time.

I found Satori and am soooo happy.

During wedding season I needed special occasion hair, but didn't want to look like a bad prom hair-do. Lisa gave me an amazing look

I agree with most of the negative reviews offered for this salon. Although the atmosphere is pleasant and the location convenient, what you want most in a beauty salon is service and results. Even though I made an appointment well in advance, I had to wait almost an hour for my stylist. After listening to what I wanted and looking at the pictures I had brought, she proceeded to give me some other haircut that was horrendous. At one point she brought out a razor and started hacking away at my hair, asking too late if I minded if she used it. She had me turned away from the mirror most of the time, so I couldn't see what she was doing to stop it...my hair cut was a disaster, way too short and hacked off, and I had to go somewhere else to try to get it to look half-way decent. Very expensive cut, miserable outcome. I have never gone back to roll the roulette wheel to see if another stylist would be different.

I have tried this "up-scale" (in image only) salon 5 times for haircuts. Yes, I am a glutton for punishment, but Satori is very convenient, on the way to work/home, there's always parking there (and it looks nice, both from the outside and inside), so I kept trying different stylists, hoping to find one who could do a decent job (I'm not very picky and have healthy hair, easy to work with, hard to mess up).

It used to be that it didn't matter much how my hair was cut, because it always did its own thing anyway, and that usually looked good. Every time at Satori, every different stylist has managed to make my hair misshaped and messy.

I also had a manicure at Satori once. My 10-year-old daughter does a far better job. I have had hundreds of manicures at dirt-cheap manicure salons in NYC that were leaps and bounds better in quality.

How does this place survive? It won't for long if it is dependent on word of mouth.

Pros: Interior is tasteful and upscale

Cons: Everything but the decor... bad haircuts, bad service, etc.

This place totally depends on who you get to do your hair. I have been here a number of times and it is totally inconsistent. Having said that, I have never had anything done here that I loved, it was always "not bad" at best.

The worst times I've had were more memorable:
(1) My hair went orange (the hairdresser forgot to tone it)

(2) Twice the stylist forgot to dry the back of my hair underneath and I had to remind her to do that part.

(3) (And this is a complaint of hairdressers in this area) when drying your hair, they turn your chair around so you can't look in the mirror and see what they're doing. They also don't always use big round brushes. Anywhere that considers themselves an upmarket salon will do both of these things with no questions. I'm yet to find one around here.

After years of struggling with my Chia Pet-like hair, I finally found Lisa to tame it. She's awesome, and half my girlfriends are her dedicated clients, won over by her talent and friendliness. Is she worth the price, which is about $15 more than at the previous salon I went to? I wish it weren't so high, but I do keep coming back. Not having to listen to the phone intro when I call could be better than saving $15, though!

I understand some of the complaints (though it's really childish to diss someone for their body size. Ahem, momofthree, I'm looking in your direction) but I don't expect a front desk clerk to be able to remember my name when I only come every two months and she's not the person who was there the last time I visited, so that's not a deal-breaker for me. The prices would be, but when I walk out, feeling like a million bucks, I know Lisa will be what brings me back next time.

After a few years of going to Satori, I got tired of the poor customer service and the fact that nobody seems to know who you are. The owners themselves do nothing to make you feel welcome, and they don't try very hard to get to know their loyal clients. There is too much emphasis on looking like an upscale boutique and not enough emphasis on good customer service. The Mani/Pedis are overpriced for what you get, and the pricing in general has gone up far to rapidly for a local salon. They're a local salon trying to be an upscale NYC salon. Get back to good old fashioned customer service and beef up your customer loyalty. Quit with the ridiculous 3 minute intro on the telephone, too!

I've been going to Satori for two years and have had many services that I have been happy with and it just keeps getting better. Today when I was getting my highlights they offered me a complimentary mini-facial and then when my color was processing my stylist asked me if I would like to have my nails painted (no charge). I can't understand why there are bad reviews, I have so many friends that go to Satori and are really happy with there hair. I am a loyal client and always reccomend Satori!!!

I just recently started going to satori but have been several times in the last few months. I love it everyone is nice and knowledgable. I really love JC shes warm and does excellent nail services. I read a few reviews where people have singled stylists out, calling them names and making comments on their apperance. Grow uop who wants to take advice from someone like that

Well I had an appointment at Satori Day Spa & Salon last week... And wow. My hair stylist was Jessica, not to be confused with jessie. Jessica, the DISGUSTING fat one. She did not listen to what I wanted done and was EXTREMELY rude to me. And apparently its her opinion that matters, and not the customers. I would never return to this salon, due to this horrible experience with this girl, who obviously has no idea what she is doing. I have spoken with other people who have had similar experience at Satori and am proud to say I will be taking my service and money elsewhere. I do not reccommend this salon to anyone, and if you must go, ask to have someone else. Remember her name is jessica and she is very rude and you will leave very unsatisfied.

Pros: Ha

I was just reading over the reviews, and must say I agree with the last one... I too had an appointment with Jessica a while back...... It was my first time trying out this salon. It seems like a nice place and most of the staff were very friendly and seemed to have very satisfied customers... I'm a pretty quiet person and don't usually complain much but I must say I was very unimpressed with the attitude the hair sylist had towards me. I didn't feel like my questions, concerns, and wants for service that day were fully met, or in fact like they mattered much. I also would not reccommend Jessica at Satori salon. I have still considered going back due to the nice atmosphere, but I'm thinking I will ask to be scheduled with someone else this time. The styling of my hair was alright, but really not what I asked for and not for the price I paid. I think this girl may be a bit young and unexperienced to be in such a nice salon. And maybe taught to understand that the customer is right and the attitude doesn't need to come to work.. Thank you.

I went today and spent over $150 on different services -- a pedicure, manicure, brow wax, and haircut. The pedicure was great, haircut alright, wax overpriced, but the manicure was awful. The girl doing it was not even 21 and did a very poor job. My fingernails looked awful; I asked for one shade of color and she assured me the other would look nicer -- it's that shade of pink you see on dirty velour jumpsuits. The cuticles came out awful and look just as messy as usual, my dry wintry hands are still that, she did not trim or clean my fingernails...the whole point of the pedicure is to pamper your hands and make them beautiful, instead my nails looked like a 9 year old with a steady hand painted them...dirty stubby ugly pink nails. Did I mention dirty? GROSS. I paid $27 for this, and will be removing the color tomorrow.

I don't understand why a salon like Satori, whose supposed business is in personal grooming, doesn't have a higher standard of cleanliness for their employees - I understand that with all the dyes, scissors, etc, that hands may get dirty, but the girl doing my manicure had long, long dirty fingernails, and was very rough with me and paid little attention to detail.

It really depends on who you get. I can't recommend Jessi enough, but I would not let the manicure girl go near my hands again. I can't BELIEVE how dirty my hands look after the manicure.

Satori is the most fun salon/spa in the area. I've had hair, nail and other spa services since they opened and recommend them to everyone. It is a great place for spa parties with friends - 4 pedicures side-by-side. Just had my hair cut and highlighted and so many people have commented on how nice it looks. They are offering free haircuts for teenagers while they train their newest stylist and my picky daughter loves the cut they gave her! Satori is clean, stylish and the better than all the options in Ithaca - I've tried the other spas and always prefer Satori. Massage with Hillary was phenomenal. Aveda products are my new favorite.

I went to Satori for the first time last week for a hair cut. The receptionist who answer the phone and scheduled my appointment acted totally disinterested and boarder ling rude when explaining their procedure for holding your appointment with a credit card. Fortunately, the sylist was very nice and offered some good advice. She did a nice job cutting my hair and was able to suggest some new products to address my hair "issues." They offered me a drink as I entered the salon, which is a nice touch. I was given a brief tour and all the areas where nicely decorated and clean. My second encounter with the receptionist was equally as disappointing as my first. I had to wait over 10 minutes for her to even notice me waiting to pay. She once again seems totally out of it and annoyed when I asked her to check the prices on the shampoo and conditioner I was buying. Overall, the services and products are nice, but the staff (especially the receptionist) need to learn to be more friendly and customer service orientated. Improvements in this are would certainly make Satori a top day spa/salon in Ithaca.

Satori would really benefit from good customer service and careful stylists. I have had several color services from a few different stylists and NONE have been up to par. The last time was definitely the worst; I paid for full highlights but left with 1" dark root gaps. I called after one week to ask about the services was informed that the stylist wouldn't be able to get me in for a consultation to look at her work for at least two more weeks! Nor did the receptionist offer consultations with anyone else. I was shocked at their lack of customer service. Ithaca doesn't offer a lot of high-end salons, and I was hopeful that Satori would offer both the environment and services of good salon. A big disappointment!!

I had a terrible experience getting my hair colored here. My natural hair color is very dark brown and I have it colored to a lighter brown, and simply had to have my roots redone. I've been doing this for the past 6-7 years. It was my first hairdo at Satori and the color came out RED, completely different than brown. I went back the next morning to have it redone, and after long complications, they brought the same person back in to redo it. I don't recommend it. The hairdresser who did my hair was 22!! And they charge a bundle. AVOID.

I had a great expierence at Satori. I am new to town and was very nervous about beauty services available in Ithaca. A friend referred me to Satori. Since it was my first visit they booked extra time with the stylist and I was given a thurough consultation. The stylist really listened and I got a great haircut along with a really great atmosphere. Did I mention all the great products, things I didn't think were available in Ithaca!!

I was horrified when I walked out of this salon. My hair was NOTHING like I had asked for. My stylist completely disregarded my input and did what she wanted. This would have been fine if it had at least turned out ok. However, now I look like I'm a client of Edward Scissor Hands. To make matters worse, the Owner (the fat, dark-haired, sloppy b*tch) did absoultely NOTHING to compensate for my poor experience. I DO NOT recommend this salon to anyone. You'd be better off going to Sweeney Todd...
