This store has a good selection and are in a very convenient location for me. But I've come to dread shopping here because of the constant judgments and unsolicited advice. At the entrance, they have *four* separate signs stating that "breeders kill shelter dogs' chances." This is not true, since a reputable breeder breeds rarely and carefully. It is the backyard breeders and puppy mills who produce unhealthy, unwanted dogs and sell them to irresponsible owners who don't neuter them and thereby produce more shelter dogs. To lump all breeders together, and to condemn those of us who have purebreds as complicit in killing shelter dogs is absolutely inappropriate and insulting. Given the number of purebreds that I see in the store, these people should avoid such self-righteous statements if they want to stay in business. But the judgments don't stop there. Nearly every time I have shopped at Pet Stop, I've been subjected to some lecture about what I'm doing wrong with my pets, from clipping claws to storing food. I've had my cat for over 15 years and my dog for nearly 13, and on their twice-yearly visits the vet always declares them to be in perfect health (this is based on both a thorough physical exam and blood tests). But to hear the people at Pet Stop, you would think I'm an incompetent, negligent owner. I've also asked my vet about several of their comments and she has deemed them complete nonsense. I've stopped shopping at the Pet Stop for the most part, which is too bad, but the inconvenience of walking a few extra blocks is nothing compared to the irritation of getting a sermon every time I need a can of dog food. These people may mean well, but they've lost me as a customer.

Pros: good selection

Cons: too much unsolicited advice, high prices, slow service

I love going in here. The landlords on that part of Columbus Ave. must love animals too because there is a High End Bird Shop near an Exotic Pets Vet next to a General Practice Vet and in between Pet Stop. It's the Mall of UWS Pet Indulgence.

I have such mixed freelings about this store. Probably because I can't afford to buy everything I use there. But it also has something to do with my finding priced products on the shelf at twice the asking price at the manufacturer's own website. Good vendors make it a point to keep their prices higher than local retail so this isn't in Pet Stop's favor.

Given that the two or three employees about seem dedicated to arranging deliveries and no one has ever greeted me, I think I'll think of them as a place to browse rather than purchase.

Pros: The What's What in better pet food and supplies

Cons: Prices are other worldly

The Owner is the nicest and really cares! Cares about you and your pet's needs and not about the sale. Great products at great prices and recommended the best dog trainer and groomer for us after Biscuits and Bath cut our dogs nose while being groomed with a scissors. Our puppy needed 3 sticthes and the bill was $300 which Biscuits and Bath refused to pay at first. The Owner of Pet Stop recommended Sandy's. He has never let us down on any of his recommendations so I trust whatever he has to tell me! I am sure she will be great for grooming...will let you know.
But Pet Stop is the best and we wouldn't buy our pet supplies anywhere else!
