Best Place ever!!!!!!!
amazing fruits, yummy goodies, lots of activities for the whole family, & beautiful setting!! yes it does get busy on weekends and yes they do check trunks upon exiting the orchard,
(i dont care as i have nothing to hide)
but i have seen an employee catch a person stealing a substantial amount of apples, so i can understand the need to check.
The animals are all well cared for, the farm is kept as clean as possible, and the employees are very helpful and friendly! It seems things run a little more smoothly and efficiantly every year!
i bring my family there at least a half dozen times during the fall season and even in the spring for berry picking! Best place around if you ask me.

Great for an outing with the family. Have hayrides, pumpkin picking, apple picking and even a bake shop where you can get fresh apple cider donuts. Kids and adults will have a great time here.

If I could give this place no stars I would. Don't go here it was the worst apple picking experience I have ever had. The people were rude and the orchard was a mess, dirty and disgusting. The apple's were nothing to brag about either-

Bowman orchard is the worst pick-ur-own place ever. The employee and owner are rude to their customers and they don't even let you taste the strawberries before you pick. We went to this Bowman orchard on Father's day and we have to pay $2

My daughter and I visited Bowman Orchards yesterday for a fun family outing of picking apples. They happily sold us a bag to place our apples in, but we could not find any apples on the designated trees? Not wanting to leave without any

I went to Bowman Orchard on Saturday along with visiting relatives from NYC. My guests enjoyed apple picking so much that they decided that they would visit again soon. However, we were very disappointed and felt humiliated at the check out. They not only searched our vehicles trunk, but probed underneath our seats for supposedly stolen apples!! They were rude when we told them that they cannot go through our personal items. The staff is very racist!!! Please anyone considering going there should think twice. If you don't mind being treated like a possible suspect , and being humiliated then this is the place to be!!

I went on a Sunday in mid October, around 11 am. It was a beautiful fall day and I anticipated a big crowd, especially from the articles and reviews I've read, but I actually thought they were closed. As we drove up and parked we did find some more people out picking apples, but it wasn't overly crowded. It was fun to be armed with a map, a list of apples that we can choose from for that day and go walk around. People were also driving around, but I didn't find that necessary. I did think the wait was pretty long to check out. There were only two cars ahead of us and waited about 20 minutes. I was surprised that our car was checked. I forgot that I had camping gear in the back and they took it out and rummaged through it. I wished they had warned me before hand or even mentioned it before they started doing it, but they just went ahead and started going through my stuff. I can see how that would tick off a lot of people. We went into the shop afterwards and the icecream was delicious. I highly recommend the pumpkin icecream. I got a small cone and told the cashier what I purchased, but she still charged me for a large one. I should've realized it when she gave me attitude when I asked for my receipt, but I didn't realize it till I got home. The lady making the carmel apples (yes, they make yummy carmel apples right there) and the icecream girl were super friendly and nice. I thought it was a nice orchard to go to, but for apple picking I may do the farther drive and go to Goold, only b/c they're smaller and you're not subject to an invasion of privacy. However, for my pumpkin icecream, I'm definitely going to Bowman.

Pros: Pretty scenery

Cons: Massive Orchard

I, too, had a bad experience at Bowman, as many have reported. It took a 1/2 hour to get in due to the crowds on this particular beautiful Fall Sunday. It is not their fault that it is crowded and they are doing a good business. However, by this time, they should anticapte this and have a more efficient way of entering and exiting with large numbers such as these. They should have many more employees on the weekends to help. On the way out, they young gal who said she was one of the owners, was downright rude to me. She had a very bad attitude. Her customer service skills were horrendous. We did not even want to go to the store after having such a bad experience.

Bowmans has the best apples of any orchard in the capital region!! although they get very busy on weekends and may have lines to get in and out as long as you can be patient and enjoy your time on the farm you will love it!!! many people complain about the fact that Bowman employees must check trunks on their way out but i myself have seen a car full of people that were caught with $156 worth of apples hidden in their car.... so i guess i can understand the need to check my trunk!! it amazes me to think people would acctually steal apples from a local farm that is only open for 4 months of the year!!! anyway as long as you can be patient to wait in lines on weekends you will have a blast at the Bowman farm!! & if you dont like all the people and lines you can choose to go during the week when things are much quieter and you can get more person to person attention and even strike up a friendly conversation with the employees!!
Bottom line - you follow the few rules Bowmans have = you will have a great family fun day on the farm!!!! & Be Happy the Bowmans and other Orchards around here are even allowing us to go and enjoy their livelihoods so we dont have to buy yucky supermarket apples!!!
Bowmans is the Best!!!

We plan a huge Bowman trip every year. They have a huge variety of apples, the donuts are fantastic and there are tons of kids activities. I love picking pumpins and gourds, even eggplants are available. On beautiful days they do get quite crowded and while they've been attempting to make changes to alleviate traffic build up it can still get messy. Get in line early for the donuts on crowded days.

It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and relatives from Asia were visiting us. We decided to go apple picking and chose Bowmans. It was all going great and we were having a good time until we checked out. We had to remove all the items from the back of our station wagon including our guest's suitcases so Bowman employees could check the spare tire well. They even looked in our guest's luggage! In Asian countries the elderly are treated with great respect (that's why you see them commonly bowing down to each other as a sign of this respect). This experience was horrifying and humiliating to them. To relate this experience to an American, it would be the same as someone doing a full body cavity search on you! Later on we found out that only 1 mile away also in Rexford is Lindsey's Orchard. At Lindsey's they don't subject their customers to these search tactics and treat their customers with dignity and respect.. Howerer; in all fairness, Lindsey's does not have cars drive through so they don't need to do car searches. As for myself, I would rather walk through an orchard to pick apples than dirve my car through and be subject to Gestapo like treatment. You need to decide for yourself what is right for you. If you want lots of apples (a car-full) and don't mind being frisked, go to Bowmans. If you want to pick only a bag or two of apples and wish to be treated with dignity and respect, go to Lindsey's Orchard.

It has not been easy to find a place to take our kids to pick apples this year. Sunday was our lucky day, we spent the day and Bowman Orchards and had a blast. The line was a bit intimidating at first but, it moved right along - lots of helpful employees, and very organized. We were pleasently surprised at how fast we were able to park, pick and check out.

When I saw the sign that my car would be searched then and read it on the the map they gave me I felt a little uneasy. I soon found out why that is the policy. As I pulled up to pay for my apples, the car in the check out next to me had just be caught trying to steel 4 bags of apples! WHY would someone do that? This family is allowing the public onto their property to pick, they are trusting the human race NOT to take advantage of them - what is that guy saying about the human race? Then I saw the same guy in the parking lot complaining about them looking in his car HELLO....he's a theif and thats wrong!!! I now say...search away - I have nothing to hide. I appreciate even more the effort that must go into maintianing positive customer service. At least we are not all like him.

The pig races are the best! The "Pig Man" was so funny and his little pigs just love him. They have the cutest and most relaxed horses for the pony rides ever. You can not beat the great farm atmosphere - The food in the food booth is delicious too -roasted corn, baked potatoes, fresh cut fries and awesome chili.

The apple cider donut ice cream just capped off the day! Glad we still have a few weeks left to the season, we will definately be back before it's over for 2010.

Wow! Glad to just be out of my car and away from Bowman Orchards! I thought I'd be trapped there forever! Here's why--when the flow of customers is heavy, Bowman employees route customers through the orchard, where you park alongside the trees. The problem with parking by the trees is that there is also a tremendous amount of foot traffic where they have you drive--people going to and from their cars to pick apples--and many of the people walking alongside the traffic are young children. There were so many cars and so many people walking within inches of our vehicle that my husband and I decided to leave and find another orchard--but we couldn't until we finished driving around the designated Bowman Orchard traffic loop in bumper-to-bumper traffic. We were in our car, in the heat, trying to avoid hitting pedestrians for 40 minutes, until we finally got to the end of their traffic loop. Let me make sure that's clear--40 minutes of being trapped in our car, with the engine running, gas being wasted, pollutants spilling out of our exhaust pipe, trying to not run over people. At the end of the traffic loop, Bowman employees routed us to a cashier. We hadn't stopped to pick apples, and were really desperate to leave. The cashier asked--politely enough--if he could check our trunk for apples. I understand that people sometimes steal apples, but since I am in business myself, I also understand that customers want to be treated respectfully, and to check for stolen apples is such bad business. They didn't just take a cursory look in the trunk either, they moved things around to make sure that we didn't have any hidden underneath the other items we carry back there. The good news is that there is a wonderful u-pick just up the street from Bowman's. Go there instead.

Today we decided to take our five year old daughter apple and pumpkin picking since we heard our usual orchard had slim pickens we decided to try somewhere new. Bowman's website was very promising. We haeded out to the orchards to pick apple red delicious to be exact and they are wonderful. Then the pumpkins, not too much left so we opted for none, then the raspberries, yummy. We then headed to the bakery for some cider donuts. My husband got 1 dozen, 6 plain and 6 with cinnamon& sugar. When the cashier tried to charge him for 2 half dozen he questioned her, she said they only sell at the dozen price if they're all the same type, so he said "no, i won't be buying anything today". Another employee overheard us discussing it as we were leaving the bakery and said to us "if you don't like you can go someshere else". I then proceeded to the produce section and asked to speak with someone. A gentleman came out I told him what had happened and he said the donuts should have been at the dozen price but made no effort to do anything about it. Needless to say they have seen the last of us.
