NEVER GO THERE IF YOU ARE HUNGRY!!!
I am very happy this place is closed! The service was bad, the moment we said that we were not going to order a bottle of wine the waitress disappeared and another one took her place (probably a new girl..) My husband and I wanted to impress our friends from out of town, so we chose this really romantic and exotic place. But the problem was that the other couple was starving and when the food arrived my friend said, "Is that a joke?" We had huge white plates with very, I mean very small piece of food inside, like a baby portion or something like it... The food was very tasty I have to admit, but so small that if you are hungry better go elsewhere. Oh, on top of that it was very expensive too! So, this place is a total rip off and unless they change portions, prices and quality of service we would never be back and we would always tell people to stay away... There is a lot of competition out there and a lot of Egyptian places to chose from!!! This is NYC!

I just called this place for a reservation and I was informed that they are moving locations and won't be open for another month.

I just love it. The food is very authentic and I particularly like the fish dishes. I have so many favorites that there is no need to recommend any in particular. The ambience of the place reminds you of a Kasbah with its secluded tents, belly dancing and best of all the aromatic hookahs. It is a dream place to take a date for the first time. Many people mention the service or lack of it and I can understand how many New Yorkers may want to rush it but I found it adequate and at the end of the day, if I'm on a date nothing wants me to rush my meal as I just sit back and enjoy the wine and food and of course my date.

Went her for our anniversary, oven was out -- they waited until seated to tell us, effectively bait & switching us. Additionally purposely sat us in the front where the lights from street (currently construction) were blinding. Food was decent, although all 2nd picks due to oven being out.

Perhaps worst of all was managers treatment when I called back next day--majorly defensive. Didn't even apologize. (staff o.w. was friendly).

The age old expression, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Won't take the chance to go back, especially as there are some other great Moroccan & Tunisian joints in the city.

The worst dining experience in New York.************ Rude and horrible service. Waiting 45 minutes t get our appetizers and another 50 minutes to get the entrees. They are trying to sell their overprice bad quality drinks.
Don't mislead by the claim of Michelin guides selected restaurant ad posted in front of the restaurant. I already called them and they said they are going to investigate that.
What a rip-off.

As an Egyptian American I have been raised on my mother's indigenous cooking. When my cousins came tfrom Egypt for a couple of weeks I decided to check if there were any good places that served Egyptian food. Casa la Femme was one of the top choices that popped up and I booked reservations there for the next night. I was amazaed by this restaurant!!! It brought back the memories of my mother's cooking and my cousins kept telling me how they felt like they had traveled back to Egypt the moment they entered the restaurant. The food was also great. The lamb and the snapper were especially delicous. The lamb was cooked to perfection with the right amount of seasoning. My girlfriend ordered the prawns and the seasoning on them was absolutely amazingg!! The martinis offered, especially the mango martinis, also can not be missed. Overall our waiters were very accomadating and we never had to wait to long. They offered a very expert opinion on the wine list as well as on several dishes. THis certainly is only the first of many trips for me to this astounding restaurant.

I had a friend visit from Charleston, SC this past weekend and had looked up restaurants where we could have some form of entertainment while we ate and figured belly dancing was a good idea. Given the great reviews I read on Casa La Femme I decided to check it out and am I glad I did!!!! It was WONDERFUL!! The manager, Louis (sp?) was incredibly accomodating when our reserved tent wasn't available and sat us at a table to watch as the belly dancer began. I was expecting the wait and understood why it happens so often after we were seated in our tent. It's so romantic and wonderful you don't want to leave! We, of course, had the prix fix and ate every bite even though I was so full by the end but just couldn't say no. Our waiter was great and the belly dancer was amazing and had a group of followers trying their own form of belly dancing by the end of the night. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I'm recommending to anyone who wants to have a great date with someone they really care about to go there because after our prix fix meals, a nice bottle of $100 wine and a hookah, our bill was $400. We paid it guiltfree though, given that we enjoyed ourselves so much and were there for 4 hours!! GO AND ENJOY!!! :-)

This restaurant with its stunning decor should be avoided at all costs. We had a very disppointing meal there on Sunday 15th April. The service was absolutely awful, over 10 mins wait for a menu, up to 30 minute wait for drinks and don't even get me started on the food. This bad service was on a Sunday night when the restaurant was virtually empty. We were a bunch of girls that couldn't get drunk if we tried, that's how appaling the service was! The Manager kept making inappropriate and lewed remarks. When we complained about the service, he put it down to putting his worst staff on duty on a rainy night. He couldnt be bothered, the waiter certainly couldn't, so I say 'don't bother yourselves' in future. There are plenty more beautiful restaurants with excellent service.

I have been to this restaurant twice. Both times the food was good-- not great, certainly not by NYC standards. The visual atmosphere is quite nice-- the tents and the candlelights make for the start of a romantic evening.

However, the real disappointment for this place is the fact that you will most likely be rushed to complete your 5 course meal. After racking up at least $100 per person (with wine), it seems a reasonable proposition that you should be able to enjoy your Baklava in peace...

Instead, the staff is distinctly non-subtle about the fact that they want you to leave so they can serve the next group. By the end of the dinner, the waiters were coming by every 30 seconds. As if that were not annoying enough, they also open your tent and hover outside.

This type of behavior does not allow for the conclusion of what could be a romantic dinner. Instead, they make dinner feel hurried.

Would I go this place again? Probably not. There are other places in NYC where one can have a romantic dinner and which don't limit your experience to 1 hour.

Went tonight with group of 11 people. We did not sit in the tent. The food took 2 hours to be prepared. The drinks were way too overpriced. Portions were miniscule. The music was too loud, I felt like I was at a night club. The only thing going for the place is the decor and the belly dancer. I do NOT recommend this place. I saw the previous poor review and didn't believe it. Trust me, there are much cheaper, tastier restaurants out there.

After spending $200 on a meal, while drinking our coffee we were asked to leave the tent because other people were waiting for it! We were anxious about the place because we wanted to see the belly dancer but didnt get a chance because we werely rudely removed to the bar to view the belly dancer. Didn't get a good view so we left. It was very rude for them to move us and in the begining of the night we let them know we were anxious see the belly dancer. The tent costs $55 per person and they made it sound like you get whole alot but you get whole alot of little appetizers and pay for other things that they offer to you. Horrible service!
We will never go there! Save your money and go somewhere else!!!!!!!!

Casa La Femme North is without question one of the most romantic places to take a date. If you like Middle Eastern/Mediterenean type meals then this is the place for you. Coming from Greece the food is similar and being a fish lover, I highly recomend any of the fish dishes there. We had 'Samek fil Forne' which is the oven baked whole red snapper and 'Samek Mashway' (grilled whole striped sea bass) and thoroughly enjoyed both. The first time I went I found the service a bit slow as it was very busy. This did not spoilt it for me as my date loved the place and we had lots to talked about and we both loved the food. The second time although still busy we had a wonderful time and loved the food once again. The waiters were still attentive to my needs even though they rushed around the place. I can hardly wait for my next visit!

It's nice & romantic. We were seated promptly (our reservations were for 6:30, so the restaurant was still pretty empty which could explain the great service), and our waiter was at the table immediately. The food came/went in good timing, and we were in there for a total of 2 hours. The foods are all fun to share, and while they may look small upon first glance, all in all it was pretty filling (then again, I'm a girl. A guy might want to add an appetizer). The dessert was to-die-for, and my husband LOVED his chicken entree. We're middle-eastern and found the food very head-on in authenticity. We don't drink alcohol but had a lemonade-ish/minty non-alc. drink that was pretty good. It's a cool one-time experience, try it out!

I think that this restaurant is great, but you need to know what you're getting into before you go. First, the service level varies significantly. I've been to this restaurant four or five times and I don't think I've had the same waiter twice. Some waiters were very nice and attentive, while others have been impolite and disinterested. Second, I like the ambience, but it's not for everybody. I like the tables with tents (you should reserve in advance), which are basically thin, white curtains that give you a bit more privacy. The curtains have some holes from the wear and tear, but that doesn't really bother me. There's also a belly dancing show later in the evening, which can be a lot of fun (and often interactive), but again, this isn't for everybody. Fourth, the food is not that expensive (the pre-fixe menu is $55 for five courses), but the drinks will get you. The drinks are very good and they always recommend them, but they come in champagne glasses or small glasses that go down like candy. You can easily double to cost of your meal if you're not careful. Last, but most importantly, the food. I'm a big fan of the food and that's why I go, but there's a wide range of dishes and not everybody's palatte is ready for all that Egyptian/Morroccan cuisine has to offer. Personally, after trying different dishes, I always stick with the same order: 1: You don't choose your first course, but these dips are all very, very tasty, 2: Crabmeat Kofta (small, but amazing crabcake), 3: You don't choose the rabbit soup either (This is a dish that is definitely not for everybody because (1) it's rabbit, (2) it has a very slimy vegetable in it that people often don't like, and (3) it's extremely salty. If you ask, they'll substitute this with a miniscule salad), 4: I always get the Targine Samek (Talapia stuffed with crabmeat). It's really tasty, but some may find it to be a little too salty, and 5: dessert varies by visit (I'm not really a sweets guy).

In the 32 years I've lived in New York, this has been the worst of my restaurant experiences. It is not that I wasn't warned: several reviews on CitySearch berate the service and food. A couple of friends had a terrible time here last year. But still, nothing could prepare me for the horror. We came 15 minutes early to our reservation and were told to sit at the bar. The pushy bartender tried to sell a plethora of signature cocktails and overpriced wine (from amateur, low quality wine list). When my husband and I declined, the bartender gave us the cold shoulder. 20 minutes later, our unfilled glasses standing before us like emasculated statues, the manager aproached us and told us that our "private tent" would be ready shortly. Fifteen minutes later my husband approached the manager, who, speaking to us like we were todlers, informed us that a "private tent" was staying too long and she was trying to push them out. Although instinctually we knew she was lying (you can just tell about certain fake people) we were not too disturbed until the host by accident informed us that guests of the owner had stopped by and had filled our vacancy. 25 minutes later we are seated, harassed by pushy service for drinks, side-dishes. When I remarked to the server that his presentation sounded robotic he informed me that the owner had created a document streamlining every word --when it would be said and how it would sound--. Obviously, Casa North is confusing the restaurant industry with fascist military camps. Anything to make an extra buck I guess. Two hours later the entree finally came. The quality of the food was not bad at all but the desert could not have exceeded McDonalds quality control. Overall, I rate this restaurant a fat 0! The decour is wonderfull, the food edible. But the service is awful, dishonest and when a server is forced to construct each and every sentence according to the owners wishes, there is a clear mix-up between a Gestapo and a restaurant.

I don't understand why so many people had such a horrible time. My boyfriend took me to dinner here for my birthday on a Monday night. We had such a great time. He reserved a tent for us and it was very romantic. Although the food was pricey, the service was amazing. There was so many waiters / waitresses that would tend to our needs right away. They were really on top of us (so much that it felt like we were being treated like royalty). However, we didn't see a belly dancer. Also, the restaurant was hard to find because of the scaffolding on the building. Besides that, I had a great time.

I have never been this disappointed in a restaurant during the fifteen years I have lived in New York. It started at the bar, when the bartender tried to sell me the last glass of wine in a bottle of Margeaux left over from the day before. He explained that he had only opened the bottle "6pm the day before" and that "for $22 I would have the unique chance to try a really nice wine" and that "if I waited it would be gone." I had a beer. He aggressively tried to hard sell my wife into ordering one of many "house cocktail specialties". Frightened and turned off by the aggressive nature of the sales pitch, she had water. We then went to the table and were given a prix fixe menu. Since we really didn't need four courses, we asked for the ala carte menu. The manager then came over and told us that we must order the prix fixe because we were in a "tent table" (is it supposed to protect me from the elements?) or go back to the bar to wait for another table (the place was empty, too). He could have been nicer about the whole thing, especially since the restaurant was nearly empty on a weekend night. It took 2 1/2 hours for the entree to arrive from the time we sat down. We felt trapped and duped. The hummus appetizer was good, but everything else was awful, including the service: for example, small fried patties of fava bean that too closely resembled hockey pucks. We couldn't get drinks, we couldn't get wine, we couldn't hear each other over the music. The dinner, all in, took 3 1/2 hours. Is the evening meant to simulate a trek across the Sahara? The included dessert was crumbly old cheap ice cream served without any coffee. All in, it was basically $60 for a so-so steak and a long loud wait with bad service. Total cost: $170 for two very unhappy people. My wife and I couldn't wait to get out of this place. There are too many good restaurants in New York to endure this.

There are too many good restaurants in New York to endure this.

we went there with another couple;my best friend and her husband it was her birthday so we were hoping to do something different: this was something different alright,HORRIBLE service, the first course took about half an hour to arrrive, then the second, the third and so forth,i've been out to some of the best restaurants in nyc but this had to have deffinitely been the WORST,it was so bad that even though we paid for the prix fixe dinner we did not even stay for the dessert be prepared to wait at least 2 hours for your main course to arrive, by then we were not even hungry anymore just angry!!ALL I CAN SAY IS HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE AND FOOD!!

Where do I start - I eat out all the time in New York and I love trying new restaurants. I went to this lousy excuse of a restaurant on saturday night with 4 couple (8 people) at 10pm. First of all, the table was too small for all of us, the temperature of the restaurant felt like we were actually in Egypt and to top it off, the music was so loud, you couldn't even have a conversation without yelling (and I'm not usually one to complain about this stuff). However, this wouldn't have been that bad if the service was better, but to my dismay, the service was horrendous.. literally, the worst service I think I have ever had in NY!!! It took nearly an hour to get our appetizers, and the excuse was that they make the bread from scratch.. give me a break, no restaurant in NY can actuallly stay in business if they had to make all the food from scratch... and I find it hard to believe that they don't make hourds of the bread at once considering almost everyone in the restaurant is ordering food that is accompanied by the bread.. nevertheless, we weren't served dinner until nearly two hours after sitting down (midnight!!) and even so, the food wasn't even cooked to our specifications.. a total disaster and totally overpriced for what it is! Please, if you are considering having a nice evening out with friends and family, I'm warning you, the mediocre food or ambiance cannot make up for the lousy service.. it truly ruined the meal!!!!

My husband and I loved this romantic place, we were transported into an oasis!!! We had a great server and the food was amazing, even if some of our choices were sold out (bizarre).
The house drinks are expensive ($12-$15) but they are worth and you enjoy a belly dancing show, so no complain about the price. Definetely recommend it, just take your patience with you the same way as when you go on vacation :)

Okay, -So if youre a stickler for service Casa North wont be receiving any awards from you. -But I dont think you'll Lock em' up either. While the service could DEFINATELY be improved, -its not so horrible that the ambiance cant make up for it. -seing how I was already expecting the worst, -I was actually pleased that my dinner went off without any major problems.

My boyfriend and I arrived at 8 for our reservation, and were told our table wasnt ready. We sat at the bar and had Mango Mojitos (MMMmmmmm so good!) and in about 15-20 minutes were seated. We had requested a private tent, and were seated underneath the most romantic billowing white drapes, -towards the front of the restaurant. -We sat indian style on plush morocan pillows around a wooden table, and the waitor enclosed us inside of our tent.

... Now you tell me, -what is more romantic than sipping cocktails with your honey, -in a candle-lit private tent draped with white flowy linens, -and rich colored throw pillows... I felt like an egyptian Queen! ... SO if the waitor was a little rude, -Forgive me for not noticing.

The hummus is finger licking good... and the lamb very tender. The menu could have been more diverse... so if your a finicky eater definately check out the menu b4 you head on over...

The belly dancer was a nice touch... She adds to the authenticity -and I for one didnt mind that her performance was short, -Cuz I kinda wanted to get back to my romantic dinner!

DEF. A great spot for a romantic evening, -just dont 4get to request a private tent for two!

The decor at La Femme is beautiful. Very romantic. We sat under the canopy, and ate the price fixed menu for $55. The food was very tasty. The only thing was... me, and my date felt a little rushed by the wait staff, it seemed like they wanted us out. Overall I would recommend the experience at leat once if your in the city.

This is a beautiful place, including the restroom.
Nevertheless..the service......very very very bad! We did not have a reservation, the assist manager informed us that a couple didn't show, and that we could have that reservation. He informed us it was a 5 course meal, VIP seating on the floor under a canopy along with cost of $55 per person. My date and I agreed, had a drink at the bar and waited 15 mins. We were then sat at a table in the back....5 mins later the same manager asked to move us...He put us in View of this long table with atleast 40 people....straight view of rear ends mainly..you know what I mean..our flat bread didn't show until 45 mins later....I voiced my concern to the waiter...he then told us about the BIG 40 person party and that that was the hold up in the kitchen. He apologized, very nice guy, he was new. After the bread, we waited another 20mins! Please note this is a 5 plate meal, at this time it was 1015pm....I told the waiter we are leaving..he then called the manager over. This manager with our next dish in hand appologized emensly, and asked us to stay...I told him no..and he said, "fine I tried".
ALL and ALL, this ruined my date, fighting and waiting and staring at butts for 1.5 hours.

This resturant is not worth the trip. As soon as we sat down the manager approached us handed us our menus and asked for our order. We said we'd like a little more time. Literally two minutes later he was back again he came back and asked again. We told him we wanted a little more time. We were then informed we could only stay at the table for 50 min and then we would have to leave. For a meal over $100 for two people we were outraged. The manager was rude, the drinks took 30 min to arrive (halfway through our allotted amount of time). I would not recommend this place to anyone. The food is average the prices high and the whole experience was very upsetting.

Awful. We arrived on time & the restaurant was empty, but they insisted we sit at the bar. When they realized we would only order water we were allowed to sit at our table. The waiter tried to sell us cocktails ($15.) After 20 minutes waiting for wine, we had to demand menus. We ordered food & another server came over & tried to sell us a side dish . I thought someone would try to sell us a used car . Our apps arrive -- suddenly, no service. Ran out of bread & sat for 15 minutes, at which point our waiter started clearing our half-eated mezzes. We asked for bread. Another 15 minutes. My entree came 40 minutes before my freind's. It was a 3 hour dinner, most spent staring at an empty table. This restaurant hopes you'll fill the time drinking their over-priced alcohol. MAJOR RIP OFF.

We had dinner reservations for 10:30 & they were not ready for our party. They asked us to wait in their Bar/Tapas restaurant next-door. At about 11:30 our party was asked to come into the restaurant as our table was ready for us. When we got into the restaurant there was no table prepared for our party; we moved the tables ourselves. It was nearing 12:00am & our drink order had not come. Some of our party were getting up to go to the bar to get their own drinks. The new year arrived & STILL NO FOOD! It was about 2:00am & after having a confrontation with the manager our food was then delivered!
They charged near $800 for four people & we paid for our drinks @ the bar!
This place itself is nice to look at...the staff & management are terrible!

I finally found the most romantic restaurant right in midtown. I no longer have to go downtown for a romantic dinner. The theme is Arabian Nights with billowy, tent-like seating. A belly dancer entertains. I had dinner there recently, and I had a wonderful time. I live around the block and Im so happy to have found this restaurant. The food was unbelievably delicious, the decor and service, everything was perfect. Such a fun place. I liked the bar area as well. Everything is so nicely decorated. If you are looking for an out of the ordinary place to eat, I suggest Casa La Femme. Dont forget to try one of their signature cocktails - mango cosmopolitan. The friendly staff has a "let's put on a show" enthusiasm. The room is beautiful. The location is terrific. It adds up to a dining experience that's more than the food.

I just celebrated my bday at Casa with 18 of my friends. I had the best time. All my friends had fun and we ended up staying until they closed. Excellent food. I was very happy to see how they managed us at their restaurant considering the restaurant was full with other customers. Everyone was so accommodating, they made sure we were all happy and took care of us. The employees were all very friendly, vibrant and enthusiastic. They played good music and the belly dancer was very entertaining. I cant wait to go back there for a romantic dinner with just my girl friend and dine in one of the private tents. I highly recommend it for any occasion or just for a quiet romantic dinner. I even got a flower from the hostess as I was leaving. Thank you Casa for making my night a memorable one:)

I went to this restaurant with 5 people. Let me just begin by saying that the theme of the night was "We ran out of that." For the main course there was no meat dishes to choose from because they "ran out" of filet mignon and lamb chops. They ran out of crab. And they ran out of coffee! Coffee! Now I'm a tolerant person, but by this time I was so dissappointed and the waiter could see it on my face, so he sent over the manager. She then explained the arduous process of making coffee and suggested tea. How insulting. She then sent over the owner, and his only recourse was to give us a free bottle of sparkling wine. What a joke!

This place has the worst service in all of Manhattan! not to mention a rude and un-attentive staff! we waited an hour to be served bread! despite our pleas of hunger! ... and there was a very pregnant woman in our party! the place boasted 'bellydancers" but only one appeared for only about 10 minutes-if that! when the food finally did arrive- the staff didn't remember who ordered and it was not good-our friend had to return her overcooked fish...but by the time the food came we were all full on....Bread! when the bill arrived we were shocked to see the $105 dollars we were each expected to pay...I mean this wasn't exactly Le Cirque-...this place stinks!!! if you want a similiar "middle eastern theme" head downtown to le souk in the east village...that place rules whereas Casa la Femme-should be called casa la Nightmare! I reccomend you stay away!

Terrible service and over-priced. Continously asked waiters for bread they refused to bring it- kept saying we'd have to wait until we ordered! We ordered and still no bread. Also waited forever for drinks. Then about an HOUR later we got the bread..and then more and more bread..but not our appetizers or actual food which didn't come for ANOTHER hour. There was one belly dancer for about 20 minutes.
Would never go back

Never again will I base my judgement of a place thanks to it's decor. Although beautiful inside, the service was horrible. The maitre'd kept staring at my party, trying to get us to leave because another party was waiting. They recommended the tent to me, without even mentioning once that it was accompanied by a prix fixe menu. The rabbit soup looked like something you would feed to an animal. Never again!

Great for a Birthday get-together!

NY has lots of places w/ bad/spotty service but I've never been more appalled. Waited forever for table (w/ a res.); got 5 course prix fixe meal for table (courses 1&2 are bread & soup); waited forever b/t apps. & entrees. Asked many times & told food would be right out, finally were told that there was a "situation" in the kitchen. We cancelled our meals--food arrived 2 seconds after. We asked for the check as we ate (never had course 5) & then the mgr. came over & had the audacity to tell us that we were unreasonable wanting to just pay & leave! Told us that we should expect a 5 course meal to take 90 mins.--we had been there for almost 3 hrs.--then comped us all of $5/person & said we should call him directly next time for our reservation! Next time? We'll never go back there.

We went here for a friend's girlfriend's birthday. The friend happens to be Egyptian. He loves this place and now I do as well. I had the shrimp and we triend many of the appetizers. Everything was wonderful including the my favorite course...the bellydancer. Super romantic.

Service was so helpful and kind.

I certainly will return.

If you DON'T want to eat, visit this restaurant. I arrived excited for a romantic dinner in a tent. My reservation was for 8:30pm. By nine, I still hadn't been seated and the host didn't seem to care one bit. For some reason, the host kept studing his reservation book, but to no avail. He didn't update me on when I would get a table and several other people who didn't have reservations were taken ahead of me!
