The first time I ate here was in 2006, and I come back as much as I can. I feel like I am welcomed into the Scotto's home when I am there. There are almost always celebrities around, and the food is delicious! Must eat there!!!!

The food was good, however, make sure you check you bill before you leave. We ordered 3 desserts to share amongst our party and they sent us for 10! They kept bringing desserts out, so we assumed they were being very gracious. The next business day I called to let them know they charged me for 7 additional desserts I did not order I did not dispute it that night because I did not want to make a scene in front of my guests, also we sent back drinks that were unacceptable which we were also charged for. I took this up with the owner, and she was very rude, I was so shocked to have been spoken to so disrespectfully and to be yelled at by a supposed professional. She contradicted herself several times as she yelled at me and then told me if I wrote a bad review she would argue that I ??threatened? her. Are you serious? This restaurant and its owner are only after money and have no ethics or human decency. They take advantage of large parties in hopes that you will not carefully review your bill. Save yourself the time and money and don??t go there!!!

Took my girfriend there for her birthday last year and was slightly satisfied with the night. The food was decent while the service was excellent. The waitress knew the menu inside and out and made suggestions based on what we were saying and how we were reacting to the choices. On the night we were there it was a bit touristy, but then again, it is Midtown Manhattan. I'd recommend it for a night out with the wife/girlfriend if you're doing something else after (movie/drinks, etc.)

Classic new italian. Always very happy for a meal at Fresco. Really great wine list and superb food. Portions are significant. Very fresh. Accommodating staff. A bit pricey and tables are a bit close but all in all a pleasure

The pasta is fantastic, the special pizzas are scrumptious and the bolognese sauce is to die for. The place is loud, but a lot of fun and a place to watch people. The staff always goes the extra mile to ensure that it's a perfect evening.

Waste of money, BAD food. Under-cooked shrimp, fatty lamb, jarred sauce, and a frozen solid ball of tasteless ice milk they call "tiramisu gelato" for desert. Mixed drinks made incorrectly and with little to no alcohol in them. Four dollar breadsticks. Tourist trap.

We arrived on time for an 8pm reservation. It was for a party of two. We were told we could have an immediate table in the bar or wait 10 or 15 minutes for a table in the main dining room. We elected the later and at 8:30pm, I asked Mrs Scotto how much longer. She replied table #13 was just paying and it should not be too much longer. Forty-five minutes after our reservation, we were seated at a table. Surprisingly, we were NEVER offered a cocktail for our troubles. Our waiter arrived and did our drink order. We requested 2 chardonay's, and were told they had nothing by the glass in chardonay. We settled for pinot instead. The tables are VERY close and tight. When the man next to us went to leave, he accidently spilled an entire glass of water on another patron. It went on the male diner, his briefcase, and all over the table. Good thing it was not red wine. Both apologized but realized it was due to the closeness of the tables. When this table was turned, the hostess was standing between our table and theirs and her long sweater hung dangerously close to our candle. So close it almost caught on fire. Talk about a hot evening! We ordered one appetizer, 2 pasta entree's and a dessert, and left the restaurant 3 hours after our scheduled reservation. This was not our choice; the kitchen seemed slow and overwhelmed. As a busy NYer who eats out most nights, I had not been here for many years. I now know why. There are better choices in mid town. As an executive in the service industry, who works in mid town, I will never go back or recommend to my clients.

I recently had a business lunch at Fresco. The food was good but I was extremely disappointed by the quality of service. The waiter (Vinnie) had the nerve to approach my colleague and I not more than 5 minutes after we paid our check and in a condescending way "informed" us that there was a second seating. Our entire lunch was not even an hour and already they were ushering us out the door. I was so angry that when I got back to the office, I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. I was told he was busy and that he would call me back. I have yet to hear from him. Needless to say, I will not be dining at Fresco anytime soon.

I was a bit learly based on some things I had read, but my client wanted italian food & the location was perfect.
The staff was very friendly & inviting, no tsnooby at all, which had been mentioned.
I had some trouble with the wine list, as wines I am familar with were not there, so I had for some help, hoping that they would not try & steer me towards the $ 100 & up wines...not at all, actually, they sold us on one of the less expensive cabs & it was wonderful.
the food was fabulous!! We shared their signiture chip & gorganzola cheese tower & a seared tuna & truffle appetizer, bit yummy.
I went for the duck & wild mushroom pasta, she had a wonderful ravioli dish from the specials.
All in all, a very nice dining experience, I would go back in a minute.
It was a bit pricey, but not too bad. Dinner for 2 with 2 appetizers & a bottle of wine was $ 180.00 with tip.

My mother decided we should eat here after seeing the Scotto's on one of the morning shows. We made reservations for Saturday night at 7. We actually arrived a bit before 7 and were seated upon arrival. The restaurant was not too full and we were seated at a neat table almost in the middle of the dining room. Our party of 4 consisted of two 11 year old children. They did not have a childrens menu, but the waiter did assure us that the servings would not be huge. And they weren't.
The service at the restaurant is very good, they are not intrusive when clearing empty plates or filling your water glasses. When we requested second glasses of Sprite for the children, they were brought over immediately. For appetizers we had the Manila clams, the only complaint about these were that the clams were very small. I had a caesar salad and it was the a good size, not filling me up before the meal came. We also ordered the spaghetti chitarra, ravioli fresco, penne with chicken and veal bolognese and tagliolini with gulf shrimp. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The sauces were all excellent, flavored just the way mom makes. The serving size was good as well, no one had one of those huge monstrosities that are prevalent in chain restaurants.
For dessert one of the children had strawberry cheesecake and the other had brownie fudge sundae, both were excellent.

All in all a great place for an authentic italian meal. The only thing that I could find to complain about were the prices. Dinner for 4 with two appetizers, one glass of wine, one comso and two dessers was 200$, not including a tip. If high prices make your b lood pressure rise, I suggest skipping this place and eating at a pizza place around the corner.

As a New Yorker who lived in Italy for 4 years, I was expecting good food and excellent service, as indicated by the previous reviews. What I got was nasty attitude and price switching, so please be aware. My friend and I entered the restaurant late Thursday evening. We told the waiter that we had already eaten but wanted something light. We both ordered appetizers and the waiter asked, "Do you want this as your entree?" I explained (again) that we had already eaten but were still a little hungry, and that we would not be eating anything else. "OK, as an entree, then," he said, which I took to mean as the only course.

We were served our appetizers, crab cakes and 'fruta' di mare salad (which should be frutti, BTW), which were ok, but nothing to write home about. Both of us didn't even finish, because they were really big (for appetizers).

We asked for the check. After 1 glass of champagne, 1 espresso, and 2 'appetizers' the total came to almost $90! I asked the waiter why the bill was so high, and he smirked, "You told me you wanted the entree." When I politely tried to explain that we wanted only the appetizers as our sole food order, he told me (again smirking) that I should have read the menu, which states clearly below the list of prices that any appetizer sold as an entree would have an entree price. Oh! That's why my (already overpriced) $18 'fruta' di mare was $37! Please note that he never stated the price, nor did he indicate this line on the menu when we ordered.
We asked us if we wanted the manager. Visibly upset, I told him not to bother. The manager came anyway and gave us the same song and dance as the waiter (also visibly smirking).
While I do not mind paying $37 for something that is printed $37 on a menu, I really take offense at being duped. The menu said $18. If your food is good, you don't have to force it on people, do you? Bad service, bad attitude, and too bad you lost my custom and those of my clients (many of whom are Italian).

If you are a NY native there are many other fine Tuscan restaurants with better food and service for the money. We arrived on time for our reservations, to be left to wait while a table actually opened. While waiting at the small bar for a table to open, not one of the multiple bartenders offered any service. Once seated the service was fine and the pasta dishes were good. They have a decent wine list that is heavily marked-up. While not a bad meal over all, the restaurant has no atmosphere and the laissez-faire attitude of the host leaves something to be desired. Given that the place is packed primarily with tourists that generate no repeat business it is no wonder that the service is lacking.

Went here on Fri night w/my aunt, uncle and their 2 teenage boys. We had 6pm reservations. Hostess was extremely polite at the reception area. Our table was against the wall w/2 seated on chairs and 3 of us on the bench seat. Luckily my one cousin is only 13 and skinny otherwise it would have been a tight squeeze for 3 adults on the bench side. Who seats 5 at a table really meant for 4??? FYI the entire place has a cramped type style seating wise. Our waiter had the personality of a wet mop. Practically had to chase him down everytime to get another glass of wine and he made it seemed as though we were always bothering him. Took forever to come take our order. Ate crab cake and the zuchinni chips w/melted gorganzola for apps. Chips were really good... crab was so so. My entree was the penne w/bolognese sauce. It was brought out cold and the sauce was ALL meat... felt as though I had just browned meat on top of my penne and it had no taste. They also brought out all our entrees at different times and not together... we're talking at least 10 minutes apart. Very strange and annoying. My aunt had the seafood raviolis which she was disappointed with. My uncle had the canelloni w/rabe and sausage. That was just okay. My cousin who's a picky eater wound up getting the margharita pizza app for an entree. FYI they sprinkle TONS of parsley ALL over it which made him not want to eat it then. My other cousin ate the same as I did. Overall we felt disappointed with the whole experience and the sticker shock in the end didn't help matters... $277 plus tip for 5 people and we didn't even order dessert! Waaaaaaaaay overpriced. Definitely wouldn't return.

I walked by this place with my girlfriend and the food looked good. And it was. I thoroughly enjoyed my well-portioned meal, although I don't really remember much about it other than that it was a pasta dish. What I do remember was that it was good, but it was on par with a lot of other Italian restaurants in the city that serve the same food at prices roughly 35% cheaper. I was later told that the place is run by a chef that gets invited to the Today show a lot. So maybe that's what you're paying for. I frequently use this place as my reference point for overpriced food.

I ordered the simple fresh spaghetti with marinara. It lacked any flavor or originality. It was sweet and boring, the pasta gummy. My sister ordered the grilled shrimp over salad - yawn.
Nothing was at the very least good, no less special - and we do not care about price, we just want yummy food. I will never eat here again. I only took this opportunity to review because I cannot believe how awful the food was. This is a genuine, grudge free review, as service and all else was fine - the food was bad enough to render me reviewing it on craigslist.

I love this place. It's a perfect venue for business lunches: the southern Italian fare is very good (albeit not incredible), the service is friendly and the restaurant is always crammed with various captains of industry and media types. I particularly enjoyed the flat bread salad.

Within 10 minutes of being seated at our table, the hostess asked us if we could move. Ive dined any many upscale restaurants and not once was I ever asked to move to another table to accommodate guests. Not only was it rude but completely unprofessional. We politely agreed to move and the hostess offered us a round of drinks on the house (took 20 minutes to arrive). Another 30 minutes had passed and our main course did not arrive. The hostess stopped by and asked if everything is ok, I replied Obviously, no. We have yet to be served and our waitress has disappeared. Within 10 minutes of the complaint, we got our food. Not once did our waitress stop by our table. We asked for the check and decided not to leave a tip as NO SERVICE was provided. I would NEVER dine at Frescos again.

During the snowstorm in Jan 2005 - we walked into Fresco - obviously not dressed appropriately due to the weather conditions and it didn't matter to Mrs. Scotto - her grace and welcoming comments were not what you normally hear/see in NY. We were absolutely delighted with our waiter, the food was phenomenal (try the chicken veal with penne bolognese). Will absolutely go again when we are in town.

City search reates this as good for a group setting. Well I just called the special events co-ordinator and she was so rude to me. When I asked what the price per person was she told me and just asked can you even afford this. I told her probably and then began to ask her if there were any other fees, as in for the private room, she intterupted me and said no there are no other options. She obviously didn't want our patronage at all and I can't see how they get anyone to pay $75 per person for such bad customer service. If you are looking to have a group event this is not the place to do it.

If you've been to Italy, you are aware that most Italian food in NY tastes distinctly American. Not so at Scotto. I thought I was back in Mama Italia. Every single thing we ordered, fromt the salad, to the rabbit, porkchop, pasta, and dessert was too good. Yes, a bit expensive, but if you are willing to shell it out, this is a great place to do so. This was my first visit, so I can't comment on consistency, but I'm certainly willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, and will definitely return. The service was also very friendly and recommended a wonderful bottle of wine (we had 3 of them.)

This is a great place to meet clients for lunch. The risotto is one of the best in the city. The location is so convenient to mid-town.

We were extremely disappointed with the atmosphere and service at this restaurant. The only good thing was the food which was WAY overpriced and not much to choose from.

Everything was good- the fresh peach iced tea, the rabbit, the polenta I had and the entire staff and care we had,. We had last minute dinner ploans, and glad we came here. Pricey, but if someone else is picking up the tab-come here!!

I'm very satisfied with the quality of food, service and atmosphere of Fresco. Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth it to treat yourself once in a while with an awesome dining experience. If I have to say something negative about the place, it would be the wait. We made reservations, but we still had to wait over 30 minutes for our table. Perhaps that goes to show how wonderful Fresco is with its overfilled dining room...

An unfortunate and disappointing experience. Took whole family for my father's birthday. It was his last visit to NYC (he had cancer) and I wanted to make this special. But the lobster pasta was so bad and so un-fresh we had to send it back, and they charged us for two extra entrees without any explanation. When I complained to the manager, he changed the bill but didn't apologize. I called the next day and spoke to another manager, but he didn't offer any kind of compensation. My father did love his food, but I'll never go back here, not with the management's attitude.

Went to Fresco for the second time yesterday. The food (Eggplant and Zucchini pie) was much better than last time (can't remember what I had, if that says something). The service seemed fine to me. The prices, however, are a little bit out of control. My lunch entree was $22 and I was turned off by the fact that they will charge you an entree price if you order a salad for lunch (c'mon - a $22 salad!). Gotta make sure they squeeze each person for at least $20 bucks!

I've been entertaining clients at Fresco for a couple of years now on a few occasions, but have decided that this I will no longer be visiting. It is a wonder to me why this one bartender in particular is still employed there. Perhaps she is a relative of the Scotto family? Her service has always been a let- down and after this last visit, i will no longer be returning. It's a shame, the food really is quite good.

I am a regular customer of Fresco and am always impressed with the service and the quality of the food. The Scotto family is great at making you feel at home. It is my regular place to bring clients and friends from out of town.
