I walked by this place all the time, Everyday. So finally I went into Salon Kiara asking about color and a hair cut. The lovely receptionists told me the prices and the different levels of stylists they had ( regular, top, master and artistic director), as well as the color process. They made sure to make it clear to me which was wonderful of them. I shortly after was directed into a seat by a sweet receptionist and Gloria approached me. She had amazing ideas about my color. When I told her it was up to her, I couldn't of been more happy with the results at the end. Shes friendly, sweet and really knows her stuff. Then it was time for my haircut. I was directed into a stylist's seat where I met Lulu ( regular stylist with master stylist quality! ). She was amazing. The sweetest person I met. And I have tried out alot of salons! I had really damaged hair and alot of it! Yikes!! She managed to give me what I wanted and made my hair feel great in the end. As well as me.

I highly recommend Gloria for Color and Lulu for cuts. They are both amazing and You really won't regret it. I know I don't . And I will be there shortly for my trim and root touch up!

Great Job!

Have you ever gone to get a haircut and once they are done you think to yourself "What did he/she do to me". I have plenty of times but everytime I go to Kiara I have been satisfied with the final result. They are all great people and great hairdressers. They also wash your hair once in the beginning and then once more when you are done which is great because I hate leaving a place with hair all over me. Highly reccommend it.

Pros: Everyone is very friendly and they know how to cut hair

I walked in and asked for a price quote for a trim... when i was done they said that the price was different and over 20 dollars higher because my hair was long. I was standing in front of her when she gave me the quote!!! The haircut was nothing special, and for what they ended up charging it could have been something special from a nice salon. NOT WORTH IT!!!!!

I walk by this place every day on my walk to and from work, so I thought why not try it out. As soon as I walked in, the receptionist wasn't friendly, which was my first turn off. Then, I asked my stylist to trim my hair because I liked the length...it just needed a clean-up. I also asked him to follow the shape I currently had, which was a long bob, angled from back to front. Neither of those things happened- he rushed, cut more than and inch off and made a mistake, thinking I wouldn't notice, by cutting the front too short and had to make it the same length all around. Needless to say, it wasn't a positive experience. No personal touch. I will NOT be returning, nor will refer any of my friends.

I stumbled upon this place during my last trip in NYC. I went in needing a trim and came out with a completely new do. The stylist gave me a look that fit my personality and face. Nice, clean salon. Would visit again.

From the moment you meet Toni- you know you are in the presence of a great talent.

Her super cool style translates into one great hair cut. Its no once off either, the more I go the better it gets. So much so that going anywhere else at this point is just not happening.

I am new to this area and was refer to this salon. I read the review from both citysearch and yelp. As it seem the review are not as bad. I was then give it a try. My friend is having her hair done by Gloria and Junko. I tried to book appointment with them. But I guess Junko is very good as she is fully booked for two days in the evening. Therefore, I booked appointment with Gloria for my single process. She gave me the consultation. She did give me some of the suggestion on the color and it turns out fabulous. I get a lot of compliment lately from my friend. And I decide to give it a try for the haircut. However, as Junko is busy. I was taken Gloria's recommendation on Lulu. It turn out she give me great cuts. Not a dramatic change. However, she is very informative. As she goes along the cut. She give me all the information as how I will look as well as how I should take care of my hair every day.

The staff there is not pushy at all and I feel wonderful for my first visit. I will definitely go there again. Remember, ask for the Shampoo by Mariana. I almost fall asleep with her magical hand.

I asked for a trim - not too hard, right? They did a nice, quick trim and proceeded to charge me for a shampoo, haircut and style and blowdry when all they did was a trim that took 20 minutes. When I asked about the price they were rude and made up all sorts of excuses why the price would be the same even though there was no shampoo and no hairstyling and blowdry. Finally they told me I'd need to speak to a manager but of course this person is unavailable.

This is a midtown Manhattan salon, right? Shouldn't that mean the quality of the cuts are expected to be top notch? The stylists should be on top of their game: knowing the latest techniques, various style trends, to be able to know what works and what doesn't with face shape/hair texture/client's personal style, age, etc. I've had cuts by two different stylists here (and given them both 2-3 chances) and have been disappointed with the results each time. They always seem to just miss the mark. This comment is coming from someone that is not easily traumatized or overly picky about hair. It will grow back. But I am really angry that this type of place is allowed to charge NYC salon-quality prices when they, in reality, could be found in a mall in suburban NJ. The stylists are dressed in a tacky way and just seem sub-par. I want my money back.

No, better yet, I want my bangs back...
I just had my bangs trimmed and I am appalled at how technically amateurish this job was and frustrated that I paid "Top stylist prices" (each stylist charges a different amount based on their ranking in the salon.) for something I could have done better in my own bathroom with a pair of kitchen sheers.

I do not recommend this place at all.

Salon Kiara is the most affordable salon in the city for the quality and service you receive. Everyone is friendly, it's extremely clean and comfortable inside, and you get the "NYC Salon" experience w/out the ridiculous prices, even down to the coat check. If you find the right people (and there are some really talented people here!), you will save a lot of money and look really amazing.

GLORIA is the absolute best for highlights - she is fantastic!!! Best highlights I've ever had, hands down, and that's a hard feat. Everything she does looks natural and gorgeous, and she really can match to your skin tone while using products that won't damage your hair. I get so many compliments on my color!!

NUBE is the best stylist, especially for long hair - I have gone to Arden and B&B and spent a lot of money, and haven't been able to find an good haircut for my long hair. Nube gave me great layers, enhanced my sidebangs and gave me a kickbutt blowout! I work in the area and stepped into Salon Kiara about 6 months ago by chance, and have been devoted since.

I work around the corner from Salon Kiara, having had a bad experience long ago I thought I'd give them another try. I'm glad I went with my instincts. I went on my lunch break for a quick color touch up. I met Olga for the very first time. She was AMAZING! She paid great detail attention to what I was looking for and that I wanted to look beautiful. She did just that! She was fast and professional. Her assistant Yelena was also very exceptional. Finally, Nube was my stylist. She was quick with the brush and hairdryer! They ALL managed to get me out of there looking my best within 1 hour (I have short hair). I cannot express how grateful I am to these wonderful women! OUTSTANDING JOB Ladies!!! I will DEFINITELY be in to visit again VERY soon!!!

I thought it would be a nightmare that the true Colorist, Gloria is taking off. But thanks to Hayati, new in Kiara spent time to listen to me, really look at my hair and finally gave me the color that is different to Gloria. But I love it. And I walked out of the salon Kiara, feeling like a much much better before I walk in to the store and not to mentioned the compliments receive the last few days!!! He is amazing. Go check him out yourself.

I might tried his haircut in my next visit as well

If you have wavy hair and are looking for a great hair cut with layers, try Ivana. She is absolutly amazing. Do not get your hair colored in this place, I made that mistake and had to go back twice to fix it (I was getting my hair colored a shade darker than my own and my hair turn out redish).

Not only are the prices the most reasonable in the area but the staff is super friendly and they can always fit me in the schedule without an appointment. I have gone to a few different people there but the best so far have been Junko, Lulu, and Damien. I highly recommend them - they listen very well and took their time. I highly recommend this place and will continue to go there all the time.

I had gotten a half dozen or so very good haircuts in a row from Junko (who had come recommended) without any problems, then all of a sudden...BAM!...I have longish hair overall but for some reason Junko decided to practically shave the hair around and over my ears!!...I was shocked when I saw it and realized what she had done...I couldn't believe it!...and neither could my wife!...it looks ridiculous...why in the world if somebody has long hair all over, would you opt to practically shave the sides around and over the ear?...I like my hair to all blend together smoothly which I told her on my first visit to her, and she said "got it" and followed that guideline for the first several haircuts, and all of a sudden this happened...thank goodness I can somewhat mask this glaring mistake with longer pieces, but it's impossible to cover it completely...I am embarassed to walk around this way...Junko said it will be fine in 2 weeks when the around the ear pieces fill in, but I have a tough time beliving that...also, she told me that it looks worse now because the hair wasn't completely dry yet and so the difference between the shorter pieces and the longer ones was more noticeable...I think she was just trying to cover her mistake...futhermore, the overall haircut was shorter than I wanted it, even though I told her that all I wanted was a maintenance trim since it had only been about 3 weeks since my previous haircut, and she cut as if it had been at least 6 weeks...she is not a good listener...I feel all of this could have been avoided if she hadn't been rushing so much...there wasn't anyone booked right behind me...what's the rush?...I've already begun to search for a new stylist after this terrible experience...to add insult to injury, when my wife (a long time Kiara client) called the salon to demand we get a refund, they refused, and offered to fix it, but it is impossible to fix, I just have to wait for the sides to grow out...I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!

Cons: Stylist rushed and didn't listen to me, manager doesn't know proper customer service

I had a terrific experience at Salon Kiara. Gloria did color and highlights and did SUCH a good job. She was so nice and pleasant. Toni did my cut and dry- she made my hair look better than it ever has. I arrived at 12:00 PM and left at 3:00 PM. They were so efficient and yet really paid my hair a lot of attention. I will definately go back. The salon is unpretentious and their prices are great. I loved it.

I have never written a review before, but I went to this place with high hopes! I read all the reviews and my friend even got her haircut there before. But my stylists was horrible. I was probably his last client for the day, so he cut my hair how he wanted it cut. He didn't listen to anything I asked for, and was just pushing me out the door. Needless to say, my hair turned out horrible. When I told him that I was not happy, he continued to justify my horrible haircut. I have short hair and he made it look like the legoman's hair-do. I WILL NEVER go back again to this place. Talk about scissory happy. I had even asked him to fix my bangs and he completely forgot to do them. Basically horrible stylist (aka styled my hair like we lived in the 1950's). DON'T GO!

I've been going to the friendly and very skillful Diane at Kiara for 8 years or something like that, and she's nursed me through growing very short hair to very long, by way of a half dozen cute hairstyles, not to mention handling the fallout from a number of sketchy decisions I've made with regard to color and perms. She's fantastic; she gives me what I ask for, while steering me toward things my hair will accomplish. Best of all, she was never SCISSOR-HAPPY when I was growing my hair, She's great, my hair looks great, and even though my job has changed, I'll still cross town to to see her.

I read some review and take my chance to get a cut. I was recently moved to this area and was recommend by my neighbor to come to this salon. I was recommended to see Gloria and Lulu. I called to make an appointment. I came in and have a consultation with Gloria, she was very patience and listen to what I wants. I was very happy with the color she gives me (so is my friend). And I was then seeing Lulu. I shown a picture the style I would like to have. During the time of the cut, she was giving me suggestion of some change and turn out everything was fabulous. I love the color and the haircut. It is perfect.

Also, I have read the other review that someone is getting a trim without the shampoo. I highly recommend everyone should try the shampoo by Mariana. It was so good. I almost felt asleep. It is miss If you don't get a wash.

I wasn't looking for a new stylist but thought what the hell I could use a haircut and the location was very convienent...so I went. all I can say is this guy is AMAZING. this guy knew exactly what I wanted.it was like he read my mind.I think I found myself a new stylist. GO SEE RALPH ! You wont be disappointed!

Pros: prices, availibility

I have gone to Diane since moving to the city last fall, and she is one of the best sylists I have ever been to. Personable, highly skilled, and listens to what I want as we fine tuned my cut. This is the best hair cut I have had and I have been to fancy salons and paid $100 for a men's cut as well as a neighborhood barber for $10. The price is half what compareable salons in the city charge. Marianna works at the shampoo station and is sweet and gives the best scalp massage imaginable.

Don't know on other reviews. I tried few stylists. They were awsome. Maybe some reviews is true. Don't care. I am gonna stick with my last stylist. Good luck.

I've been going to Kiara for a few years now, and I'm always pleased with the service. The staff is courteous and friendly. Stylists do a great job. All this for under $50. A great find.

The good news is that they fired the hateful hairdresser who razored my hair into the most unfashionable cut ever. It looked nothing like the photo I'd brought in, despite being assured by said unnamed stylist that he could achieve it. This on top of the colorist who turned me brunette after I instructed her to keep my color blonde, because she decided "it suits your skin coloring better." Hmmm, isn't that for me to decide???

In all, this horrendous experience cost me $250, which the manager refused to refund, and 3 months to grow out. The manager did offer to have me back in for free with other stylists, but there's no way I'd go back.

I have been to the salon for years and have tried number of stylists. Most of the Stylists know hair pretty well. I also have to say the service and the haircut I received worth every dollar I spent.

I have gone to a number of higher priced salons in the city and recently went to Kiara again for the first time in a number of years.

The service, care and particularly the cut that I received was impeccable. If you are a looking for a particular style at a reasonable price check out this salon

First, they sipll water all over you when they shampoo your hair. Then they make your hair look worse then when you walk in. The salon smells like a dump and staff were rude. NEVER waste your money there!

I've been going to Salon Kiara for about a year now, seeing the same stylist, Benjamin. Not only is he a wonderful person, but he is an amazing hairdresser. The staff are all extremely friendly and the prices aren't bad either.

I went to Kiara on the advice of Citysearch readers and was very pleased with Ruth's haircutting skills. But I must warn readers of the colorists. The first guy turned my hair red (I'm not kidding), and although the salon nicely had someone fix it free of charge, I was never very impressed with the highlights they did. I tried a different stylist and he did a crummy job.

Kiara is a great bargain most of the time. Michael, in particular is a great colorist. The real problem is that they can't hold on to good people to allow for any consistency. I've been going there for 1 1/2 years and I've had 4 colorists and 5 stylists. Some cuts have been disasters. Others have made my friends envious. You just never know!

My first experience with Xiomara was wonderful. I called for a re-appointment, the manager informed me that she no longer worked there but he highly recommended Lorenzo, who is excellent with curly hair. I booked the appointment -- it was the worst haircut ever. Lorenzo proved everyone was wrong, he can not cut curly hair. He razored my hair (HUGE MISTAKE) and the finished look made me look like a poodle (a poof on the top/front of my head!!) My response to is this okay was, "You must be joking!" How a stylist would think this was attractive is beyond my comprehension. To add insult, when I left they informed me that Lorenzo's fee was higher because he was a junior master. A junior master of what, I'm not sure. Certainly I deserved to know about the higher cost before he touched my hair.

After reading several reviews that raved about Junko, I booked an appointment with her. She was extremely skilled at handling my abnormally wavy Asian hair and deserves all the high praise she has received.

One thing that cost Salon Kiara a 10 in my eyes is the fact that had I not requested a dry consultation, my hair would have been washed before I had met my stylist and show her how I wanted it to be cut.

Got a so-so haircut and style. Stylist was tugging my hair and had no social skills. Thought it was going to be great - ratings and friends, but it was no big deal. I'd rather pay more for a better haircut.

I THOUGHT THIS PLACE WAS ANNOYING TO BEGIN WITH. I STEPPED INTO THE SALON, PUT ON A ROBE. THEY MADE ME WAIT 1/2 AFTER MY ORIGINAL TIME. THE WORST WAS WHEN THE SHAMPOO LADY SLOPPILY SHAMPOOED MY HAIR(SPRAYED WATER IN FACE, ECT..) HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, SHE DIDN'T GET A TIP. HAIRCUT WAS NOT DETAIL ORIENTED AND WALKED OUT UNSATISFIED. A RUSH JOB OF A DEAL!

my first haircut with a stylist at Salon Kiara was a suitably satisfying experience, enough to attract me for a 2nd visit. this time my original stylist was occupied so i, on enthusiastic recommendation by the receptionist, went with another. sacrilegious move and big mistake. this stylist not only failed to emulate the style in the photo i requested ('though she said she could), she took the liberty of dumping enough product on my head for me to have the "wet and crunchy look." i was too embarrassed to even take the subway home. i'm sure it wasn't malicious on her part, but she was clueless and her sense of up-to-date trends was severely lacking.

I'd rather get a haircut from a great stylist in an ugly-looking salon than the other way around. The fact is its not such a nice space and the majority of the clients are walk ins. But my haircuts from Junko are better than ones I paid three times more for in a schmantzy salon. But if you want the luxury, go to a salon where you pay for it. Me, I dont mind.

Better off going to SuperCuts! First off, I was ushered in, given a robe, and escorted to the shampoo chair. The shampoo attendant, noticed my hesitation, then led me to the sylist. A haircut with no dry-hair consultation? Next, I specifically asked for a trim b/c I was growing out a short hairstyle. The stylist took the liberty of cutting significant length off the sides my hair WITHOUT ASKING b/c he said "it didn't look right to him." He would "let the hair grow from the top." So, he chopped length off of the side to let the top catch up, ignoring my request that I didn't want any length taken off. I tried to stop him midpoint, but he did not listen to my request. Now, I have a completely diffent haircut (not much of a style), that lacks any sort of femininity. Don't go here.

I was relocated to a midtown location after my office in the WTC was demolished. I needed a new place to get a haircut but didn't want to pay midtown prices. A friend of mine had a great haircut and she said she just walked in off the street to Salon Kiara and was pleasantly surprised by the stylist she was provided - Junko. I called and made an appointment with Junko who was wonderful. She has been cutting my hair ever since and I'm always happy when I leave there and get tons of compliments all the time. The only thing I don't care for is the fact that, if I am wearing a coat, I have to check it with a coat check person which usually means I have to WAIT for my coat. Generally, I'm accustomed to just grabbing my coat and running and much prefer that.
