People shouldn't go or not go to a place based on bad reviews from strangers that were posted years ago. Saloon is a good time. The people have great energy, there's really good drink specials and it's always a lot of fun. Cornhole

Aesthetically speaking, this is a really nice bar, so it's a shame that the bouncer/manager on duty the other night was such a jerk. Disrespectful, degrading, and simply mean. Arbitrary cover charges for different people and randomly

I love this place! I have no idea why it's getting so many bad reviews...everytime I go here I have the best time. The music is perfect - a lot of rap from when I was in HS mixed with some good 80's sing-a-long music. It's a pretty big space so there's plenty of room to dance but also room to sit back and have a drink too. I highly recommend Saloon for a fun night out!!

Pros: best music ever, not pretentious at all!

Cons: not the best place to meet someone new

Went with my girlfriend and some friends for new years. Almost got kicked out because we were kissing too much! The bouncer told us that if we were two guys we would have already been kicked out but we needed to stop. I have never been completely discriminated against in Manhattan and this almost ruined my night...

I had my bachelorette party at Saloon this past weekend - all 15 of us had a good time. The guys/bouncers at the door were very nice even though we were a little late. There was no line to get in. Saloon was crowded, but not too packed. The $10 cover was not bad b/c you get a free drink with it. We had no problem getting to the bar and we had a decent amount of space on the dance floor. My only issue was with the music. The DJ did not take requests b/c he was too busy playing snippets of 80's music - And he was guarded by 2 bouncers! The DJ played 30 seconds of one 80's song and then was onto the next 80's song. ALL 80??s!
Believe the other reviews, the music is the only bad thing about the place. I did not hear anything current . . .no Gaga, Rihanna, Beyonce, Britney, Acon, Kanye West, TI or Timberlake. It was ALL OLD Michael Jackson, Madonna and Journey. I will likely not be back . . .but I will say everyone had a good time. No line, Not Packed, A good sized Dance Floor, Decent Priced Drinks, all this within walking distance of my apt made Saloon a very good bachelorette party place for me. Thanks Saloon!

Saloon was a great night out with all of my friends. It was crowded, but there was still elbow room and we didn't have to wait for drinks. They had two bar areas opened and the music was pretty good. Some of the songs were a little random, but overall, it was a fun place to drink and dance. I plan on going back again soon!

Saloon is a great place for dancing and drinks with friends. An inviting atmosphere with hot bartenders one even resembling Mark Wahlberg. I have been to Saloon multiple times and have always had an amazing night there! I would def recommend saloon to anyone who is looking for a fun spot on the upper east side!!!

I used to frequent Saloon about a year ago and just went back this weekend after not being there for about 10 months and it has changed so much, and not in a good way!! The staff is rude and unprofessional. The bartenders are bitchy and the men only care about getting drunk and hanging with their buddies, rather than serving customers. I agree with the last comment, when did fist pumping become part of Saloons atmosphere?? If I wanted that, I'd just head out to Long Island. I also spotted one of the bartenders with their hands in their pants, and about 5 minutes later serving drinks WITH LIMES to customers without washing their hands! I went to the manager to address my concerns and he told me he would be right back and then never followed up, he never even heard what I had to say. And he had fair chance to follow up as I stood next to him, but when he spotted me he just walked away. I used to love going to Saloon, but now it is just garbage. Don't waste your time going.

Pros: At least there's alchohol?? That is if you can get the bartenders attention. There's bathrooms too.

Cons: Rude staff, not what it used to be, everything!!!

I'm sure this place is great at times but I made the mistake of going on a saturday night for a birthday party. It was impossible to keep the whole party together it was so crowded. There was an open bar deal we paid for at the door but it was hard to get to the bar and even harder to get the bartenders attention. It was insanely overcrowded and the music was SO loud. I'm more of a bar person, and I saw on the website that it was half bar and half club but unfortunately it was ALL club when I got there. I like to be able to have a conversation with the person next to me so I was hoping to find the more quiet haven but it wasn't happening. I live on Long Island and I felt like that's exactly where I was. Lots of fist pumping. It was the typical crowd of Long Island's Mulcahey's or the Nutty Irishman, so I wondered why I bothered spending the $15 for the train ride here. I was disappointed but you know what, everyone else that was there seemed to like it so it just wasn't my cup of tea. I expected something different than what I got and this is my note to you giving a heads up to those who may also have had the wrong impression on Saloon.

Cons: crowded and loud

i have been to saloon a couple of times and never disapointed. it was a good place to go out so i had my birthday party there, prices were reasonable but the dealbreaker was service. no credit card reservations just set up a package gave them a name and party size and showed up for my party.

Been here twice and both times my mind has been boggled, pleasantly.

Firstly both times were packed, but not annoying "spilt drinks, bumping into people, I want to go home" packed.(once on a wednesday once on a friday). So already thats a decent plus because nothings sadder then a giant empty bar.
Secondly, York Avenue? I've lived on York Avenue for years and never even heard of this place or even suspected a place like this could exist. Its so unexpected it should make people want to go just to observe the dichotomy of quiet proper Upper East Side neighborhood with loud rambunctious sloppy fun.
Thats right I said fun, both times were fun times. However It could just be me (I could have fun in an Iraqi mosque as long as there was three feet of bar) or it could be that the place was designed for a good time.. I'm a beer and shot drinker and you can't water down longnecks, so I had no issue with not tasting the booze in my drinks. Leave the mixed drinks are for ladies, no ones impressed with that ketel one and tonic. You want a mixed drink, try mixing scotch and ice.
But to step down from my soapbox and continue, I didnt mind the other patrons (wherever they were from, or how they even knew this place existed). I even got hit-on a couple of times by decent looking ladies, and let me be the first to say that I am not attractive enough to get hit-on in a crowded bar, however poorly lit, (well even if I was then clearly I have crippling self image issues that would be obvious to notice)

In summation:
If you cant have fun here you're clearly not trying.
Definately worthwhile to check out, even for the novelty.
If you live anywhere remotely close to the area give it a shot.
No cover for people living in the area or on York Avenue, I imagine because they've never heard of it. (I asked my friend who lives 3 blocks away about it and he was shocked it existed and compared it to a speakeasy as we both entered without cover and celebrated his birthday).

Went here for a Bday party this weekend and I wasn't really impressed. $10 to get in, Ok not so bad but this kind of place should not have a cover charge at all. Drinks aren't great. The scene is kinda blah. But the worst part about it was the music!! I felt like I was at an 80s club or something! So terrible. At some points they were playing pretty good music, but why would they think its ok to play old school 80s music for over an hour??!! That has to go .

There are no good dance clubs left in New York City. Probably because of the "no dancing" Cabaret Law. All you get nowadays are uber-trendy velvet-rope or hipster places where everyone wants to feel rich & important. Hence, expensive places with attitudes where fun is not an option. There are dive bars, why no dive dance clubs?

I had hoped Saloon, being far away from the normal "club" neighborhoods, might be different. Nope - it's WORSE. Because it's trying to be like those expensive, trendy places with attitudes, but for trust fund girls who don't want to go too far from home, frat boys who want to pick them up, and B&T folks who don't want to pay too much to feel rich & important. In other words, it's just like the Upper East Side itself and I shouldn't have expected anything else.

Can somebody PLEASE start a dance club somewhere that's actually about good music & dancing, and leave the "rich & important"-feeling people out of it?

I'm extremely suprised to see the reviews some people gave this place. I had an awesome time at Saloon. The bartenders were quick to make drinks and were very generous with the pour. I'm from Queens, so I guess I would know nothing about what you yuppies from the city are interested in, stick to the sidelines so the "B&T" crew can tear it up and have a good time.

I went here for a bachelorette party. Maybe if I hadnt seen the negative reviews beforehand I wouldnt have disliked it as much. But they were right about the weak drinks, the random/loud music and the crowd. I went on Saturday night and as of Monday am my ears are still hurting from how loud it was. It went from hip hop to 80's to oldies to madonna, but all good songs, I have to say. The crowd is very early 20's and hormones are raging. I wouldnt go back.

This place always has huge lines and is completely crowded, I've been twice and left shortly after I got there both times. The drinks have no alcohol and short men abound...both times I've been the door staff was shocked that I was from the city and going to this place (guess I shoulda known then). I will say that they have good all you can drink specials...granted most of the drinks seem alcohol free.

80's nostalgia music was the norm, and there were lots of frat-type men there. There was other good dance music at times, but there were many times when I just stood at the side of the room and watched the other dancers. It wasn't too crowded (this was a Friday.) The drinks were reasonably priced and were mixed pretty well. Overall, a good time if you're in the neighborhood, but you probably don't want to travel to get here. The only real problem was that it was soooo loud that I have a sore throat from screaming to my date.

There is not a good looking soul in the place, with the exception of a few of the bartenders. I recommend going if you already have a significant other and/or are completely polluted and don't care what the late night prospects look like. Check the pictures on their website, you'll agree. Expect to wait at least 10 minutes for a drink. The most frustrating occurance of the night on my second trip to Saloon was when we stepped outside for a smoke, and stayed out longer than planned. When we tried to re-enter the bar, the bouncers told us that the happy hour was over, and we needed to pay a cover to get back in - WHERE OUR OWN BELONGINGS STILL WERE! Ten dollars later, we left the place - and all the NJ losers it attracts, and headed downtown to where the real people are.

I stopped into saloon this past saturday and had a sick time. The place was packed with cute girls, and it was still easy to get a drink! The music was a variation between rap, dance, and pop, and the vibe was incredible! The staff really really gets the crowd moving and everybody seems to be having fun! The women were approachable, and good looking! I recommend whether you like to dance, drink, or meet some women! Saloon is the hot spot on the Upper East Side!

This place sucks. Its filled with lame losers and trashy girls who think they're cute because their mothers lied to them about their looks when they where children. The worst was waiting 15 mins for a drink. The bartender only serves one drink at a time, so I downed the first quick and ordered another. He instantly blew up and threatened to throw me out. Immediately after that the DJ announced open bar was over. No shout out for last call. Saloon milks every cent out of the B&T regulars who think $9 a drink ($2 tip--they won't serve you if you leave $1) is a steal when they're in "the city." Go back to Long Island. I'll stay downtown, near civilization & real people, away from the animals and puffed-up hairgel wannabes getting wasted so that they can enjoy the drive back to their mom's house. So lame.

I went to saloon to celebrate friend's birthday. It wasnt too bad. Drinks were reasonably priced, the crowd was trendy, the place is pretty big. It got really packed before midnight and some of my friends were not able to get in. The music was kinda wierd. the dj randomly mixed Insomnia by Faithless with Gold digger and like a virgin.. hmmmm..... there is another room where music was also mixed in very wierd way... it was mostly old school songs with few rap or hip/hop songs every now and then... overall not a bad experience.

Um, I'm guessing the people that wrote these 5 reviews WORK for SALOON....or probably used to. Sad if they still did.

Confusing to get into the place. You pay 10 bucks after waiting in line and then go to the other door with a ticket that gets you a free drink. Not bad. Music was LOUD and varied from 80's till midnite and then trance???? what? on a Sat nite.

YOUNG crowd. Early 20's and probably from Jersey from the look of it. The 'party' room was a disco ball with a mobbed floor. I always laugh when I see guys getting down and singing out 'like a virgin'. There are tons here, but what type of guy do you expect to draw on the upper east side? L-A-M-E-O's

I love this place. Every time I've gone to saloon I've been treated to a plethora of beautiful women, great drinks, a bar staff who can definately handle the crowds, and most importantly an amazing time. If you're looking for a spot to throw a birthday party, or just because, this is the place. The atmosphere caters to everyone. If you like music, dancing, and great drinks, the club side is perfect. The women are always gorgeous and plentiful. If your more of the down to earth sports bar type, interested in shooting some pool and drinking some pints, then the pub side has exactly what your looking for. Its the perfect mix. Saloon makes it possible to keep everyone happy. There is not one bad thing I can say about this place. Great Job guys. Madisons was a great place, and you managed to make it even better!!!

Pros: Amazing Crowd, Great Drinks, Hottest Women in NYC

Cons: , none, none

A group of us hit this place for the first time since it re-opened and I was really impressed. When you have a larger group of friends, its always tough to please everyone, but that's exactly what Saloon does. People who wanted a clubby/dancehall vibe (DJ Louie Mole was awesome) and others who wanted a bar scene with the fun, drinking, familiar tunes- were both satisfied. My friends and I will definitely be back.

Upon revisiting the Upper east side after being away from the area for a fews months, I was pleasantly surprised at the situtation at the newly transformed bar on york ave. The new ownership has put together a great atmosphere of dance party with the bar around the corner theme. You can throw yourself into either world at Saloon which makes for a great night out. Think everyone should try this place out.

This is a great place, with a great crowd, that is lots of fun. The two different atmospheres lets you have a good time no matter what you are in the mood for.

This place is unbelievable. The atmosphere is fun and there are girls everywhere. The bartenders are nice and the service is great. I think the best part of the place is the guy with the four wheels who cuts up a rug.
