.

I'd really give two separate ratings here- 4 stars for the store (which is generally good), 1 star for the pharmacy. I give it a 3 overall because I usually just shop there.
I dropped a prescription off yesterday morning and was told it would be ready when I came back that afternoon. When I went to pick it up, I found myself waiting with two other customers while three pharmacists failed to find any of our prescriptions. They just left us there waiting with no explanation, only coming back to ask occasional cryptic questions ("Are you SURE that's your date of birth?") and jotting the answers down on torn scraps of receipt paper. After 20 minutes they found one woman's prescription, the other customer gave up and left, and they told me my insurance had expired.
I know for a fact that my insurance is current and that it covers the prescription I was picking up (which I confirmed with my insurance co. when I got home)- but they refused to look into it more or call the insurance company, and told me that the only way I could get my meds (which I needed) was to pay the full retail price. If there was a problem with my insurance, they should have told me the minute I walked up to the pharmacy for pick-up, and they also should have called the insurance company to resolve what was clearly a mistake.
The pharmacists were polite and apologetic, but I'd rather have good service than polite apologies for bad service. They just seemed very confused and disorganized. I would never trust them with a prescription again.

Pros: Good Shopping

Cons: Bad, Disorganized Pharmacy

My Doctor called in my prescription to this Duane Reade because it is close to my job. When I went to pick it up the girl at the counter couldn't find it, then the Pharmacist told me I must have the wrong Duane Reade because they didn't get anything for me.

I called my Doctor who then faxed the scrip again (she later told me she refuses to deal with that specific pharmacy via telephone bc they have left her on hold and then she has no proof of the transaction and needs to be safeguarded on her end). When I called the pharmacy again they told me they had no record of my prescription.

At this point I hadn't had my meds in 3 days and was starting to freak out. My Doctor had to call them and yell at them only to find out that their 'fax machine and voicemail are down' and thats why the must have not gotten the scrip. They knew their equipment was broken, yet they treated me like a junkie when I pressed them for my scrip, never offering to call my doctor or help in any way.

My Dr. told me that of alllll the pharmacies she deals with in Manhattan that 625 8th Avenue is the worst because they JUST. DON'T. CARE.

I went there to fill a prescription and the man serving me was incredibly rude when I told him I wanted to use my HSA card. Then, a week later when I needed to use my prescription, I found out he'd given me a blank envelope - he'd forgotten to take my prescription out of the fridge and never bothered to call me to let me know. I know they knew they'd made the mistake because the next morning when they opened again, I called them and talked to another incredibly rude woman who yelled "WHAT. IS. YOUR. LAST. NAME?!" and when I told her, she immediately told me it was still in the fridge (without having to look it up) and hung up on me. It was a time sensitive prescription, so one day late was too late. Forgetting it in the fridge is one thing - not bothering to call for a week, being rude, and being unapologetic is another. I talked to the manager who said "I'm sorry but we're having staffing problems, we've already had people quit on us, bla bla bla." The manager doesn't know how to look for good pharmacists and it shows. NEVER GO THERE TO GET A PRESCRIPTION. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
