I recently had my GreatLengths Hair Extensions done with Meira and again, she did a wonderful job. They are comfortable from day one. I've had these done elsewhere in the past and have had discomfort for at least 2 weeks.

I'm very happy

Great Job Meira....... I get my extensions done at Peter Louis. I have struggled with alopecia for a couple years and Meira did the best job ever covering up my spots with light weight extensions that don't pull on my hair or cause

After years of HATING my dry, frizzy, curly hair & dreading the rain or even the slightest humidity I started to do a lot of research on japanese straightening. I searched all over the internet and saw some very scary reviews from women whose hair was destroyed & some amazing reviews from those who loved it. The product could be the same, but the ultimate deciding factor which determined success or disaster seemed to be the stylist who does the job.
Since I didnt know anyone personally who had done this before it took me a long time to get up the courage to trust someone. I hated my hair but damaging it further wouldve been disastrous. So, I did hours of research, through the Milbon website & read hundreds of reviews, said a prayer and found Meira. There were a few others who I had my eye on who also had great reviews but something about what was said about her sparked my interest. Anyway, I took the chance and went to see her. She took her time and explained everything so well that it was apparent she knew this process INSIDE & OUT which put my mind at ease. I also saw her book with pics of before and afters which was very helpful to see. But the ultimate test was the actual results.

Meira did an unbelievable, AMAZING job. If you see/touch my hair you could never ever tell that it was straightened. Its really silky, shiny and soft. It looks like naturally straight, healthy hair. Somehow it looks like the product even reversed the last 8 years of damage done by my flat iron. Its like totally different hair...unrecognizable.

Meira is the ONLY person I will ever allow to use this product on my hair, because although the product is wonderful, if the stylist is not properly trained, experienced, careful and really just good at it, it could have very bad results. Meira is not only talented but you can tell she really loves what she does. She really explains every step and exactly what she is doing. She is a real professional and has a client for life in my and MY MOM. My mom is in her early 70's and also was tired of constantly blow drying her naturally curly hair so she had it done as well with the same wonderful results. Everything I said is DITTO for her! We will both be back religiously for touchups on new hair growth. I could never ever go back to being a slave to the flat iron. I love washing my hair now. I do not blow dry or use any kind of heat styling at all. Out of the shower I comb my hair and let it air dry. Washing my hair was always such a long and tiring PROCESS and the worst part about it was that as soon as I went outside in the humidity all that work was out the window anyway. I lived in NYC much of my life and going out in the rain was the ultimate mood killer because whether just trying to quickly catch a cab or walk to the train, it usually meant being exposed to the elements for a few minutes and thats all it took to ruin 1.5 hours of hair ironing. So frustrating. Now I have NO fear of rain or any type of humidity. My hair looks just as good in any weather and regardless I spend no time on it in general. If I am going out to an event or something dressy I will spend maybe 5-10 minutes to curl the ends and bangs with a dryer, thats it. If you are going to have this done, I can promise you that Meira is the best, safest way to go. I could not be happier.

I went to the salon today for a cut and color after hearing positive feedback from a friend. Everyone was very friendly. The service was great and I left very happy with my new hair style! Peter did the cut and Corina did my color. They took their time and ended up doing just what I wanted!

Peter Louis salon has an excellent colorist: Michael. I have known him for about 15 years and have followed him around. I also go to his place in Eastern Long Island. Having lived in France for 30 years, I was used to hairdressers that tend (I overgeneralize a bit) not to listen to their clients but do what they feel will look good on them. When I arrived in NY, I tried a lot of salons: most were fine but all of them were on the expensive side. Then I met Michael: since then, he has cut my hair and colored them, sometimes blond, sometimes reddish. He always listened to me and is careful about what I wish, what I can have (what will work) and he always makes me feel good about myself. Last year, my blond highlights were beautiful and this year the little bit of red he savantly dosed made a lot to make me look better during the winter. I'll sum up in one word: GO!

I finally found a colorist who knows color and how to compliment it to my skin tone. I have grey hair and I have been to about 5 different salons and was not happy with any of the results. Some were ok but I was never really thrilled. I saw one of my husbands friends from their "modeling" days and she gave me Michael's name. Her color was amazing and she has been going to him for years. She even travels from New Jersey to the hamptons to see him in the summer. So, I tried him and I knew from the consultation that I was in good hands. He told me what would look best on me and explained why. Everyone else always made me too dark. He did have to do some corrective work to get rid of the old color from before but it was worth the time to fix as he made me this beautiful natural brown color with a few highlights. It literally changed the look of my skin tone. I dont look washed out anymore and I feel great. Better yet, since he works in the hamptons as well as NYC I can see him when I go to my house in Southampton as well! The price was good also, he was not as expensive as the some of the others I went to. Not cheap but definately not overpriced.

I was at this salon a few weeks ago as a model , to see Michael, a colorist at the Peter Louis salon. I really needed my hair done and was excited. I should had known this was to good to be true. Michael claims he has been in the business many years, but had no clue what he was doing, I wanted blonde highlights with my natural brown hair. To my horror he mad my hair bright red, my roots was a peachy red color, I wanted to die. I could not really say anything as I was a model, but I did not sign up to ruin my hair, , I did not expect this. He was able to get the help of his coworker to fix my hair, after she came over looked at my hair and had to tell him what to do. Another sign he didn't have a clue. I was left to dry my own hair and left. Now that I've washed my hair several times the red is showing again. I'm so depressed, I should have waited till I could afford my own colorist. Now I have ugly red hair , my hair is breaking from all the work he did,and it will cost me a fortune to fix with a reputable colorist. Michael sucks. I feel sorry for the clients that actually pay for service with this guy, what a joke.

I've been coming to Peter Louis Salon for years now and have never had a bad experience. Peter really understands hair care and has help my husband grow much of his hair back. They always treat their customers with the utmost respect. I've come to know the staff very well and can say they always take the time to make me feel at home and satisfied with every service. I enjoyed meeting your new receptionist. Nice addition!

I've never been to Peter Louis Salon but was very excited about the "Girls night out event" he had. The staff was so hospitable . I got an awesome conditioning treatment and blow-out! I have a long bob haircut so it's really hard for a stylist to do something different that I like. The stylist gave me really nice loose curls which gave me a totally new look. I'll definitely go back!

To start with I booked my appointment by phone 2 weeks in advance, this was my first time there ever, I was 20mins early for my appointment and the stylist that was set to do my hair was not even there,as a matter of fact he, ' the owner himself , Peter Louis , was 1hr 30 mins late for our appt. Prior to him arriving ,his assistant Jennifer greeted me after 10mins, spoke to me while she was still on her phone, told me to get ready(?) and walked away into another room,I sat there puzzled until the receptionist showed me to the changing room.
I was expecting to have a consultation prior to my straightening service, but since Peter was late, Jennifer said she would start and then he would come and look at my hair. I should have walked out at that moment., but I so needed my hair done , I had taken time off from work so I gave in thinking this will probably help as they would see my natural hair and all my frizz. Problem --- Jennifer annoyingly kept talking of other services I should come to there salon for . She tried to get me to do color with a stylist that did her hair and even introduced me to him. Embarrassingly the client he was attending to at that time was later complaining about the work he had just finished for her.
I was put under a dryer and left for about 40mins it was very hot , and when I asked for something to drink -I think for a price tag of $700+, I should have a drink of some kind-, I was given a warm glass of tap water in a smelly glass with prints and smudges all over it, not even a napkin.
When Peter finally arrived he came running into the room with his dog rambling some poor excuse of traffic, and smiling as if It were funny. He immediately proceeded to feel my hair and measure it , quickly put on some very smelly chemicals and as I tried to ask for some idea as to what he was doing to me he gave brief confusing answers and seemed annoyed that I even asked, then he ran out of the room again. He did not check on me again for about 20 mins, instead sent another assistant that hardly spoke any english to check my hair, what she did next startled me, she took the towel she used on my hair and proceeded to clean to floor around the chair I was sitting in. His dog kept nipping at my feet and bag and passing gas in the room I was in ,and all they did was laugh and walk away to the next room, never attempting to even open a window.
Peter was not there for the next 2 1/2hrs of my service and when I asked for him I was told he was either busy with other clients or on the phone. When next I saw him , he was sitting in a back room , with a girl on his lap giggling at the dog. At the end of my service I asked about tipping and I was told by the same girl he had in the room that a 20% gratuity was "NORMAL" for him and his assistant. Outrageous! FOR LACK OF ATTENTION!
I was able to talk the price of my service down and happily I did not leave a tip, nor will ever return to this salon.
What I went through in 6hrs was rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. There are too many salon in NY to put up with this joke of a business with a stylist / owner that neither knows if he is coming or going!

TIP for owner PAY ATTENTION TO THE PAYING CLIENTS.

NOTE .... there is no excuse for being late, you were not doing me a favor , I paid for my service. NOTE TO POTENTIAL CLIENTELE , AKA VICTIMS... IF YOUR DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SERVICE ,PETER ADVICES NOT PAYING FOR IT.

This is my 4th straightening service with Meira, I get this done at the beginning of summer, and again, a job well done. My wild curls are tamed, my hair is shiny and healthy looking, and I love, love, love my new cut . As always, great work. I always leave very happy.

After spending $700 on straightening in May, $100 on coloring in June you would think I would have been valued as a customer in August. There is no shortage of salons in NYC which in my mind translates to maintain and appreciate your client base. No receptionist, no offer of a cold drink, an appointment which was erased in the book, a $25 increase in the cost of the coloring and to top it me walking out with eggplant colored hair. It's L'Oreal home looks with Madison Avenue pricing. At least let the facade look Mad Avenue rather than Pitkin Avenue.

Walk into this cozy (code word for cramped) place, where you're made to feel like you're an afterthought. The scene feels like a salon version of Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares BEFORE he knocks sense into the owners. Mr. Louis is the prototypical harried proprietor , who lacks the organizational/management skills to get things done right. His people don't seem to respect him, and the mood is simultaneously nervous and depressing. I was attended to, then ignored, then attended to. It wasn't malicious, actually. There just is no service ethos, which is sort of bad for a service establishment. To be fair, my hair turned out fine. But for the kind of money that this place charges, I can't fathom why they can't get their act together. It leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth, and the feeling that professionalism has been completely abandoned.

By the way, the contrast between Peter Louis and a competitor right around the corner couldn't have been more striking. I won't name the place -- it'd make me look like a shill -- but supposedly, it's where Claire Danes goes. Anyway, get this: You enter the place, and the hair stylists are upbeat and happy. The receptionist welcomes you. Another person offers you a glass of water (with ice & lemon?) What a difference!

i have been getting my hair straightened at peter louis salon by peter for the past 3 years i did go somewhere else before that and i my hair never came out as good. my hair is always silky shiny and perfectly straight and my hair is super curly and frizzy. peter and his assisant are always really friendly his assistant talks to me the whole time we chat the staff always talks to me since ive been going there for a while now. but i mainly love the way my hair looks its more important to me then anything else and i love my hair i always get complments. for the straightening and color. Tyler cuts and colors my hair and i love it.
they did sell me their products but i like using the peter louis conditioner it smells nice and keeps my hair from drying out. overall i like the service. i recomend other people to go there in fact i take my mother there to get her hair done as well.

Tyler gave me the best haircut I have ever had. I love it!!!! and will go back any time I am in New York. The Salon was relaxing and everyone was so friendly. I wish I could find a place like this in Boston. Thanks for a fabulous experience. Thank you for all the wonderful stories from your trips to china and Brazil. I would recommend Peter Louis to anyone who wants the best haircut of their lives.

I am thrilled with my new hair extensions!!! I never thought I could have such beautiful hair. Corina was so wonderful, she spent so much time with me showing me all the options. She was so sweet and I loved that she delicately removed my old extensions in order not to damage my fragile hair. My extensions have never felt so real, I can barely feel them in my hair and they match perfectly. I have two colors in my hair and she managed to get the extensions to look Exactly like my own hair. I am very pleased. Thank you so much Corina. I will definitely be referring all my friends to you!

I did ! I only read some of these reviews after my consultation. ( In a way, I'm happy I did.I may not have gone to Peter Louis Salon otherwise.) I visited the salon and met with Mira . She was very nice and took the time to explain the TR process (as i know it ) to me .We spoke for probably 20mins, but I wanted to have my hair done by her. On the day of my appointment (it took about 4 1/2 hrs, I have very curly hair), I had no complaints, she had a movie for me to look at , made me very comfortable, and most important to me , she was there from the begining of my service to the end .Mira did have an assistant, but the care of my hair was in her interest the entire service . In the end my hair was what she promised ,straight and shiny , it still feels very healthy, and I love it . In our conversation Mira said "she loves what she does and cares about her work , and I do believe that true." She gave me pointers on taking care of my hair and (a suprise) follow up call a week later .(love it)
By the way .... for the satisfaction of my service I paid under $700.(i know its according to amount of hair),but I have shoulder length ,kind of thick curly hair. Very difficult to me.....I'm a regular gal , not a mega star or anything. I can't afford much , BUT THIS WAS WELL WORTH IT . TAKE A CHANCE WITH MIRA.

I visited Peter Louis for a Japanese straightening after reading their great reviews. Very bad mistake. Before starting the process, I asked the stylist's assistant what the procedure would entail. She said they could make my hair either very straight or less so, depending on what I wanted, and the price would vary accordingly. She said Peter Louis (who would be my stylist that day) could explain in detail. However, Peter Louis started putting things in my hair (after giving me a weary grunt of a greeting) immediately. I brought up the previous question, and his answer was basically: too late, I've already started the more expensive process. No sort of apology. But fine, I realize that we're in NYC and have to put up with snobbiness in the name of beauty. However, the level of bad customer service at this place was more than daunting. He said at one point, "ew, your hair really smells. did you get a straightening done at a cheap place before?". I mean, are you kidding me? Is this really the way to speak to a customer? Regardless, I tried making conversation by asking questions, but got monosyllabic answers which did very little to help me understand the very expensive procedure I was getting done. He would walk away without warning and I would see him talking on the phone. Overall I felt like I was a burden instead of a valued customer. My hair turned out so-so, not bad, but definitely not as straight or healthy as it's been since I found another salon (which is light years ahead of Peter Louis in terms of customer service). It was also overpriced: I paid $900 including tip, and the new salon I've found (which is also a top salon) charges me $650. If you're wondering whether I'm a competitor trying to sabotage PL, the answer is no (if I was, I would name my salon, haha). Just trying to prevent other people from feeling like a fool (like I did) for paying so much for bad service.

I had my first Japanese straightener at this salon in 2005 just prior to leaving on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Paris. I was very skeptical about the whole process and did not want to go to Paris looking like a troll. Long story short...the results surpassed my wildest expectations. My hair is very long and thick and it took almost 5 hrs to complete the process. But although when I walked out of the salon it was RAINING (I'm thinking...that's a lot of money down the drain right there) my hair held up unbelievably! I've never loved my hair as much as when I had it done at this salon. Unfortunately, I moved to Florida that same year and have not been able to go back to Peter Louis. Fear has kept me from trying anyone else and I plan to visit NYC this Christmas just to gift myself a visit to this salon. I found Peter to be very unpretentious (a very welcome relief in NYC salons) and very knowledgeable. It is extremely expensive however, but the results are definitely worth every penny. Highly recommend!

I have been getting my hair straightened and cut by Peter for the last five years. He has done a phenomenal job each time I have gone to him. For those of you who say that they "love their hair, as a result of the services you received at this salon, but feel that you paid too much", I must say from experience that you are paying for what you get, and that is quality and perfection. Since the 1st time I have had my hair straightened @ Peter Louis, I have moved away from NYC twice, one of these moves I attempted to have my hair straightened at a different place by someone that was "highly recommended". Well, long story short my hair was ruined! I immediately returned to Peter and he helped me nurse my hair back to health, when no one else (even the lady who ruined my hair) had no idea what to do to help my hair look some what decent. I have been living in Scottsdale, AZ for the past three years and I still travel back to NYC to have Peter do my hair. I know that I am not the only one who travels great distances for these services, because almost every time I have been in the salon, there has been someone else from other places (i.e. California, North Carolina) that had traveled back specifically for Peter Louis hair straightening. The services this salon offers are excellent, done with care and precision, and are worth every penny!!!!!

I first got my Japanese Straightening here two years ago and it was great! I then decided to save some time and money and try a place near my house, boy was that a mistake! Now two years later I went back to Peter Louis and my hair is beautiful, straight and shiny again! I highly recommend this salon!

In 2005 I had Japanese Straightening done from Peter himself. The results far exceeded my expectations, my hair was shiney, healthy and looked phenonmenal. Nobody could believe that my hair was Japanese Straightened and I received compliments constantly. It really lasted 20 months for me. In June of 2008 I returned to the salon to have my hair straightened again, this time by Kino and I had the same successful beautiful results. Yes, it is time consuming, but it is really worth the money. He took his time and put so much care into my hair and I am thrilled AGAIN with the results. They use Liscio products along with some other spray proteins that really make a difference. In between going back for the second time I went to a salon in Long Island in May of 2007 and my hairdresser insisted that she did Japanese Straightening using Liscio, so I let her do it thinking I was going to get the same results I did the first time. That was not the case. I went to a reputable salon in Long Island and paid the same price and was unhappy. My hair was falling out more than usual and I had bends on the ends for the first couple of days, as well as some poofiness on the top, which I did not like. In my experience Peter and Kino do the most amazing Japanese Straightening!!!! If you are meticulous this is where you need to go if you want real smooth sleek Japanese style hair. Thanks again for the consistent results.

The salon is very low budget in appearance and the woman who is the receptionist is kind of a biotch. They charge way too much for all services and almost put you in a headlock until you buy their products. But Kino is good at what he does. So, good service by kino, but rest of the staff is strangely rude or fake nice in a weird way. Also, I saw they were doing a good job with Japanese straightening, but they need to lower their prices and learn to quote "exact" price in advance.

I ordered some hair products through this salon but they never arrived! There seemed to be some problem with the shipper - they claimed I had received the products but I never did. This salon was good enough to file a claim but when nothing came of it (shipper claimed it was not their fault) the salon responded to my further e-mails with a sort of a snotty e-mail stating that since the shipper believed I had received the products I must have and that the salon wasn't going to do anything else. So, my overall experience is that I paid money for nothing and the salon was not very friendly in trying to help me sort this missing package situation out.

Wow. I've been going to Peter Louis Salon for five years now and they consistently give great service and make my hair look phenomenal. I wish I could upload a photo! Peter gives meticulous hair cuts like an artist and Kino is like clairvoyant. I trust Kino so much and when I want a change I give him a general direction and it comes out better than I could have imagined. He does amazing highlights and blowouts. He's made me from a brunette to a blond back to a brunette to a redhead after all these years. It's always fabulous and trendy. He did my hair over the weekend and all my friends were saying I always have the "best hair". Well it's thanks to Peter and Kino so I decided to post this review. Also I love the KIss Me Conditioner by Peter Louis Hair Care and I Love You Shampoo by Peter Louis Hair Care. The smell is wonderful and my hair feels silky smooth afterwards. Many friends love their Japanese Straightening too. It always looks shiny, healthy and natural.

Hi Guys,

I got my hair straightened at Peter Louis salon (Japanese straightening) and it was not a pleasant experience.
The staff were OK, but did not seem interested in doing my hair. Also, I was quoted a price of $650 before I went in, and once I arrived and had the process done, I was asked to fork over $750...a full hundred dollars more! With tip and products (they really push their products- esp. shampoo and conditioner which you can purchases elsewhere or online for a better deal), it came out to well over $900. I was disappointed because I felt like I got robbed. I really think salons should stick to a price quote. There are numerous other salons that do the Japanese straightening just as well. Next time I'll pay them a visit.

I had my japanese hair straightening and hair cut by Peter Louis himself. The place is very ordinary looking, compared to all the chic salons in NYC. There is a lot of clutter around and the small place looks more congested. The receptionist was not as welcoming. She was not as knowledgeable about their own services provided. The straightening was average, way too expensive compared to other salons. The worst was my $150 haircut.definitely not worth it. My nicer hair cut from a previous hair stylist was actually ruined. He basically chopped my hair at the bottom straight and couldn't give me the layers, that I had asked for. I had to go to my previous hair stylist and pay another $80 to correct it, cos it looked awful!
way too expensive and not worth it!

Got my hair straightened for the first time and while I love my new hair, I was upset by the experience at the salon. The people doing my hair were nice and did a great job, but I was really upset when it came time to pay. I knew ahead of time that it would cost $650, but when i wasn't sure how much to tip, I asked the receptionist. She told me average tips were 20% for the stylist and 15% for the assistant. A lttle shocked I questioned again and was told that was average. Exhausted from the long day of hair pulling and w/ both stylists standing right next to me I handed over the very large tips, guessing that was right and the stylists were right next to me so I couldn't really argue w/o looking lame. So I left upset and felt like I had just been duped, not only did I turn over $650, but also over $200 in tips to stylists who spent 70% of the time sitting around chatting while the chemicals took effect. After talking to many people I realized I paid way too much and next time I'm going somewhere else, when your spending so much money at a salon, you expect to be respected.

Meira's the absolute best. I have been to so many high end salons in the city, and I have never left happy. And I've always felt like I needed a bottle of wine to sit in the chair and wonder what tradgedy would happen to my hair next. I feel so comfortable with Meira, and finally trust a hair stylist for the first time. I had a problem with my hair extensions I had done in California, when I first met Meira. And she worked with me for months how to manage hair extensions with my lifestyle. And now not only are they the most beautiful thing ever, they work for me better then expected. She's truely so talented. She is honest, and a hard worker. And worth every penny, her experience is so valueable. And I have never been happier with my hair. It's amazing.

My hair was below my waist and when I walked out of the salon my hair was on my neck line and it looked awsome. Kino did an excellent haircut, I will definetly see him again. I highly recommend Peter Louis Salon and especially Kino. As far as people saying that its a bit expensive well yes, but can you really put a price on looking and feeling beautiful? My new look was worth every penny. As for the staff, they were friendly and they even loved my new look. Fortunately for me it wasn't crowded and I was in and out in an hour. My appointment was for 1330 hours and I walked in at 1320 hours and by 1440 hours I was out the door. No, I did not feel rushed and the end result was excellent.

My hair was below my waist and when I walked out of the salon my hair was on my neck line and it looked awsome. Kino did an excellent haircut, I will definetly see him again. This place is a sham. They charge way to much and do not even do a great job. I am sorry, it is very inappropriate to show up over thirty minutes late to an appointment when you live with in walking distance. The lady who did my hair left me to tend to other customers, did not pay close attention, and my hair still has curls. I am not going to pay such a large amount of money when other places in the city who do much better work and are quicker (by quicker I mean tend to one customer at a time and get them out of there, instead of overbooking yourself). I do not want to hear excuses why someone is doing something to delay my time, such as overbooked (well I am paying money like the next customer so I expect the same treatment, if this salon wants to tend to the exclusive then do it, don't make excuses for poor service). Oh, and if you are sick and cannot tend to my hair, RESCHEDULE, don't waste my time! The service is poor, they have lame excuses, there are over five better salons I can think of off the top of my head I rather give my business too. I do not know how this place has such a high rating, but the service I had was awful!

I recently had the Japanese Straightening done by Meira, and I'm very happy both with the service and my new straight hair. I was impressed upon meeting Meira for my consultation , she is a well spoken lady. On the day of my service she was mindful to keep me entertained . I had fun though it took about 5 hours . ( but this job does take a long time as i've read . I think I was lucky with 5 hrs) , and I have to mention that she seems very dedicated to her work. Meira is a great host , she made me feel so welcome as a new client to the salon . She comitted herself to my appointment from start to finish and her assistant was also a pleasant girl. ( I have read the complaints of others, on this site , I'm sure it's not that bad ,as...)... My experience was nothing but great . What I spent was well worth it in service , care and attention . I would Highly Recommend Meira , she is wonderful.

well i havent acutally gone to this salon yet. but judging by all the reviews i bet its wonderful. im acutally writing this review to get personal advice from peter himself. okay well i will be getting japanese straightening soon AND i really really need to know who is the best person for the job. which staff is better at it. be honest. im soo scared to get it done cuz some ppl say that unexperienced staff can sometimes do a really bad TR and your hair can fall off. im sooo scared cause i dont want to be bald as a kid. i mean seriously. how retarded would that look. but anyway i heard kino is good but some person here said some girl named meira is good. which one has the MOST EXPERIENCE.

well thank u sooo much. i will see u at the salon soon!

I just got my hair straightened this week, and it's so marvelous that it makes me giddy every time I look at it. It should be noted for people who read this that I'm notoriously fickle with hair salons, and like to try different dance partners for different kinds of treatments. All I can say is that while I loved the straightening, (I got a mini - it left just the right volume), it was the cut that Peter gave me that did it for me. There is nothing I hate more than a sloppy haircut, and I've paid extortionistic prices for them in the past. I'm in the process of growing my hair out, and I can already see that the shape is going to be gorgeous, particularly with the new texture. I will for sure be back in a few months time to get a few layers sliced into it, perhaps get an edgier fringe, and to retouch the straightening if necessary.

Now, I'm not saying I'll go back for everything (still fickle, and there are a few other places in the city I'd like to try, especially for coloring - I'm still in the process of finding my perfect colorist), but at the very least I've found a place where I can get an incredible cut and spotless straightening for a good price. Ambiance is fine; I don't come to a salon for a gabfest, I come for professional services. For those of you concerned about it, I found the conversation to be slightly more elevated and interesting than at some other pricey salons I've been to, and there's no pressure to spend the whole time gossiping.

In short - professional service, precision cut, no nonsense. It's pricey, but Manhattan is pricey. I've paid similar amounts for services in Toronto with nauseating results, so I'm more than happy. If you're interested in knowing the price beforehand, get an estimate right after the consultation, I'm sure they'd be happy to oblige.

So i have had so many terrible experiances with japenese straightening. I have had it done 5 times prior at different salons and i had so much breakage and i was completly unhappy. I was referred to the peter louis salon by my mothers best friend and i could not be happier with my results. I recieved the best japenese straightening i have ever gotten BY FAR. The atmosphere of the salon was so much fun. I had a blast being able to socialize with the hairstylist while getting the most amazing japense straightening i have ever gotten. Meira even brought me a portable dvd player from her house with different dvds to choose from. In terms of the prices, you pay for the quality. You are going to a New York City salon...and an amazing one at that. These stylist spend a lot of time and do an incredible job. I would recommend this salon to everyone and anyone! Meira does an AMAZING japense straightening!

I got my hair done (japanese straightening) about 2 weeks ago and I love it. I feel very fortunate to found this place. I had visited a few other places, and although the people there were nice, I didn't feel like they cared much about my questions or anything else. I know stylists do this straightening stuff all the time, but I don't. And when I come into a salon asking questions, I would like more than 5 word answers. That is exactly what Meira gave me. From the first phone call I made, I got a good feeling. I was told to come right in for a free consultation. She sat me down, asked me questions about my hair, examined it, gave me her thoughts and didn't pressure me in making a decision. But I did, then and there, and 5 days later I had it done. It took 9 hours, longer than expected, but Id spend 12 hours doing this if I knew it meant piece of mind. Meira explained EVERYTHING. Not only was she thorough, but she was meticulous and took her time. She is very knowledgeable and seems like she really enjoys her job. I would recommend anyone to Meira. She listens and doesn't make you feel like a stupid client who doesn't know anything. I feel like I not only paid for my hair, but also the attention and respect I received leading up to it. She even stayed in touch with me through email and text messages and followed up a week later to see how my hair was handling.

Peter was nice (and yes, I know you or someone reads these) but I have to say when it came to pricing and what not, explaining to a client the details of end of quarter revenue and taxes isn't really something I want to hear. I kind of felt like I was getting the run around when I asked questions about how much something cost or why I was charged a certain amount.

Other than that, I had a great experience. If you're hesitant about where to get your hair straightened or who to have it straightened by, go to Peter Louis and ask Meira.

I have done Japanese straightening three times. The first time with Peter and the other two times with Maria. Peter did a nice job, but Maria did an awesome job. I will be traveling to New York to get my fourth Japanese straightening done in the summer. I miss Ana and Lillian. The current receptionist is very difficult to understand (language barrier). It is very frustrating to call long distance and not know where you are calling because the person cannot speak clearly.

Overall, I recommend the salon and will continue to travel to New York to get my hair done as long as Maria is still working there. If you want your hair done right, be patient and prepared to spend at least six hours there. I don?t mind being there that long because Maria makes it fun.

Best relaxer I've received in a long time! It's been almost two months and it is time for a retouch. I've been using Phytospecific for years and have always enjoyed the results. The stylist was on time, and like I said, did an excellent job on my hair. The services I received included the relaxer, neutralizing shampoo, conditioner, and blow-dry--no style. I was not a regular client--it was my first visit, so the ensuing events became quite overwhelming... The reason I called my experience "almost perfect" was because of what I believed to be the vague price list for services. I called before I went and asked about the pricing and was totally disappointed in the end. I was even more disappointed to get my bill on a slip of paper without any details. I am the type of person who will pay anything to have my hair done correctly--and I have. BUT I have to know the costs up-front in detail--all of them. I don't believe it's appropriate to pull prices from the top of one's head--bad insider joke I think. Just be straight and publish an up-to-date menu in the salon and on the website. I would recommend this salon with a caveat---bring lots of money.
