Been there three times at the request of friends to see special venue. The sound system is horrible, bordering on dangerous. If you value your hearing, for that reason alone, I would never go there. If you must bring earplugs. Service is non-existent, there is no good seat in the house as the space is an awkward shape not meant for music or stage performance.

I love the entertainers they book here. I've been multiple times, but only eaten once. (Usually I just go with the two drink minimum instead of the dinner. DO make reservatoins for a table; the food and drink are not particularly expensive and it's way better than standing) The food I've had was decent; my flatmate thought the veggie panini was quite good.

Pros: Great entertainment at great prices

Cons: Decent food but nothing extraordinary

Joe's Pub is a great lounge w/great food, live music and a great crowd. Its one of my favorite places to go in NYC. I always have a great time and I always go to support local acts like my girl Hazelle Goodman who does the best one-woman show. Be sure to check her out the next time you're in NY. Look her up online and go see her at Joe's Pub.

I found it very special because it's not a snob place, even if it's in the most fashionable city of the world. You can find famous actors and common people. Lovely!!!!!!!!

Joe's Pub is an amazing little cabaret space located near NYU. Many of Broadway's finest performers have at one time or another performed their and playbill.com's beloved Seth Rudetsky often plays piano here.

Joe's Pub is a cozy, intimate performance space in the Public Theatre. There isn't a bad seat in the place. There you will find established stars and up and coming artists. If you plan to attend a show there make sure you arrive on time. They usually have two or three shows a night and keep a tight schedule.

This place has gone from great to plain bad. Management yells and makes scenes in front of patrons. The man who holds the people's tickets that have been held at the box office has the attitude he is holding the holy grail. RUDE!! He was taunting a female patron with yells and plain abuse when I was in line to get in. I felt terrible for her. The male employees that boss the all female wait staff around are horrible. The food is gross and the drinks are worse. Hot beer can I say enough. Save your money and go to a real venue.

Joe's Pub was wonderful! It is absolutley beautiful inside. There is so much detail. It is very elegant while at the same time the feel is informal. It doesn't matter who you go to see there because the setting is like hanging out with some friends who happen to be on stage. The drinks and food were a little pricy, but worth it because every drink I wanted was in my hand right away. That goes a long way with me. The food was so good that I tried to google the menu for ideas and ended up writing this review. I will definitely be back for more!

This place is small but has a real NY vibe, great drinks, the best entertainment from around the world on certain nights and a real NY celebrity hang out.

Great fun if you can get in, advance notice would be advisable for a perfect night out in NY

I went here to see a show because I wanted to hear the artist, but the experience of being in this space was so bad I would not recommend it to anyone. Drink and table minimums are high (expect to spend at least as much if not more than you did on the ticket) and the food is abominable. I ordered a $14 panini and got a soggy, cheeseless sandwich. The service was not good either. Even though I made reservations for 45 minutes before the show time and came an hour early, my food didn't arrive until the show had already started- it was most distracting. For a music venue, the space is pretty, but the sets are very short. If you can find the performer you want to see anywhere else, go there instead.

Joes is the place to be on Saturday nights! The music is great, the crowd is beyond attractive, the atmosphere is nice and chill...the only complaint I have is the waitresses are very obnoxious.

Didn't have any food, so can't comment on that, but I can highly recommend that you make reservations for the upper tables or couches so that you have a nice place to sit. The place got crowded and servers kept bumping into my knees where I was sitting. It's not a bad place to see a solo performer or small band. The choices of stage lighting were weird at times, but the sound was good. I didn't have to deal with any bad bouncers tonight, but have had them be a pain on a previous trip.

They have different crowds depending on what night you go. I went with a group of girls and we loved the music and the lounge atmosphere!!! The staff was friendly and attentive (may be due to the fact that we tipped and tipped well) I will definately be back this Friday for their new Hip Hop, Reggae, R&B, House, Reggaeton party this Friday night. Suggestion- get there early because if you try to stroll in at 2am they cannot let people in until people leave as it gets packed.

Something must have changed at Joe's pub since all of these reviews were written. Maybe it's not the hip new place it used to be, because it wasn't swamped when we were there. We saw a great act, service was well above my expectations. Food was about average and drinks were expensive (but such is life in NYC). The venue is great to catch a small show. The performers were practically in our laps.

I went to Joe's Pub when some relatives came to town. Paying a cover get in was expected, but when we found out you had to pay to sit down, I was appalled! And I'm not talking $20 here. There are actually signs saying "Absolutely No Dancing", not that you could ever dance there anyway with that crowd. I left with angry feet and much lighter pockets.

The bouncer's are on a head-trip at this place...no wonder they are stuck just working the door at a bar. The place is overrated. The people who run the place better get a clue and hire a decent staff or people are going to stop coming. No one feels like being treated like dirt...and that's how all my friends felt about Joe's Pub.

Definitely make the rezzies. Let me tell you, it's not fun to watch a show as the standing room only crowd here. I had to stand over someone's table smelling their food the whole time. I wanted to sit down so bad. Other than that, it's a really great place to see a show. Intimate, nice lighting, good sound system and everything.

This place is good for the performances, drinks, atmosphere but the food can use a little work. The appetizer I had was terrible. But overall I like Joe's Pub.

I hosted a party here and so I expected that since I was guaranteeing a certian amount of business, my guests would be taken care of. Not only did they have to wait in line in the freesing cold for over an hour while others were ushered inside, one bouncer actually said to a girl that went in front "your chest looks cold, maybe you should go inside". This is a place for people who want to pretend they are somewhere in the top tier of NYC nightlife but those of us who actually reside there know that a good business would never treat their guests that way. And ps- on the inside it was so crowded that it was IMPOSSIBLE to dance or to even walk around. I heard a lot of people complaining about the door staff and I will never bring guests there again.

I love Joe's Pub for a concert. It is perfect. You can sit, drink, eat and listen to good music. I always get a seat at the bar and it works out fine.

I've seldom met staff as rude and discourteous. They are awful and treat their patrons like dirt. But the musical talent is good. Eclectic, experimental music - come here to broaden your musical mind. Drinks expensive and not much to write home about. Didn't try food. I don't know if I'm masochistic enough to deal with the staff though.

Condescending, snobby, rude staff who looked down their noses at us to see if we were "OK" for the place. Insufficient seating. Music was so over-amplified that we couldn't hear the words and there was mic feedback. One of the most unpleasant nights out I've had. Won't ever return, especially given the number of other great places in Manhattan that have the music without the attitude.

This is a great place to bring a date, although I felt comfortable here as a single person. The stage and lighting set a romantic mood and is a charming backdrop for dinner. I ordered the orichiette with meatballs and tomato sauce, which was delicious. The wait staff was a little slow and service was a bit strange; at one point, a waiter collected and momentarily stacked some dirty plates on my table and then took them away. Oh well! The music was nice, and I wanted to stay longer but had made plans to catch another show. I'd definitely go back, either alone or with friends.

Joe's Pub is truly one of the best live music venues I have ever been too. They book great musicians who have already made it, and are still relatively unknown, and from all backgrounds. The atmosphere is intimate and respectful to the musician. All in all a great place to see live music. And the bartenders rock!

The talent is wonderful here and it's not too crowded. The best part? No friggin' cigarette smoke!!! It's about time someone did it and I love it! It's the best spot in town to eat and drink and hear topnotch acts perform without going home smelling like Bayonne. Joe's rocks!

In terms of programming, I don't know of any place in this city that's as ambitious, eclectic or hip as Joe's Pub. Sure, Town Hall and the Beacon mix it up a bit but poetry slam versions of Sondheim? I don't think so. This place books performance mavens like Sandra Bernhard and Carl Hancock Rux, exciting up-and-comers like Queen Esther and Antony and the Johnsons and more established artists like the Kronos Quartet and chanteuse Ute Lemper. Unlike the Public's main stages, Joe's Pub always has something playing. Since seating is limited, I always try to get there early since the sightlines aren't universally good. But any seat is pretty close to the stage so you're always within earshot if nothing else. The red and black decor lends a decadent air to all proceedings. Joe's Pub feels like a performance boudoir designed by Edgar Allan Poe. May it thrive evermore.
