I'm not picky, but this was by far the worst place I can think of to spend an evening. Completely unprofessional behavior. If I was the owner the front of house would be fired on the spot. You can tell that everyone who works here doesn't care, bouncers included. I'm baffled as to how they're still in business. Food was burnt, drink orders were screwed up, and the staff is rude. Avoid at all costs.

My friends and I came here last week and we had an awesome time..Maybe the place is not the classiest, but when you go to a bar like this you shouldn't expect exceptional service. They had great open bar specials, and the bartenders were a lot of fun. DJ wasn't terrible but the bouncers were a**holes. I do not think I will ever make it back there, but I had a fun night.

First time here as well as last. \nSketchy experience, paid check on credit card, tipped bartender A in cash. Bartender B comes back with credit card and says there was no tip. \nAfter explaining what happened to bartender B he proceeds to call our party liars.\nExpect to be treated poorly. \nWill never, ever go again.

Its bars like these that ruin the reputation of every bar in midtown and has new yorkers vowing to never return to the entire area. It all depends on what your looking for. For most, this bar is trash. If you are looking for drinks poured with unlabeled mystery vodka, a trashy B @ T crowd, terrible terrible dj's, and sloppy underage drunks, then get ready to party this bar is for you!

Having looked at everybody else's reviews, I don't understand why people could dislike this place.\r\n\r\nFirst of all, They had an all you can drink deal for $30 for 3 hours and it didn't take a genius to see the better tips you gave the bartender, the better service and drinks you would then receive.\r\n\r\nAlso, they had 3 of the hottest female bartenders I've ever seen frequently dancing their asses off on the bar, I'm suprised they didn't hurt themselves, they were pouring shots into people's mouths- free booze, good thing!\r\nIn addition, these girls were nice! which threw me, cause most gorgeous female bartenders, even when they are working for tips...are bitches!\r\n\r\nI've never been to a bar in Midtown NYC that provides the entertainment like this place does. For f&*k sake, one of the guy bartenders was doing fireballs...and did a Jagerbomb with me cause my friend chickened out and he didn't want me to do one alone, All in all, I had a great time here!

Let's start from the beginning of the night. So my friend had won her own ""happy hour"" where you get to drink for free for 3 hours and you can bring friends and they drink for half price. So sounds good right? Before I left my house that night I was curious and I looked online to find out about this place. Pretty much 90% of the reviews I read online started out like this ""Oh my god. Worst place ever. The music is too loud, the people are all a -holes, it's too crowded, and the dj is terrible cause he talks over every song."" I was like wow this place looks really bad and I definitely wouldn't like it. I called up my friend and tried to inform her of this but she tells me oh its not that bad I've been there before don't be a wuss just come out and have a good time, give it a chance. So I agree to give it a chance plus maybe its not that bad. So when I get there right off the bat I don't like the place cause they tell me I have to take my hat off cause you aren't allowed to wear hats inside. Ugh fine. After a few minutes of being there me and my friend were bombarded by this Shot girl who would not STOP asking us if we wanted a shot the entire night after telling her no like the first 3 times. Then of course the music is too loud(it's a bar trying to be a dance club) the dj is talking over every song and the crowd is made up of a-holes/ tools/ sluts from Staten Island or Bed Stuy. Everything I read in the reviews came true. Sure enough some guy got kicked out while I was there, they didn't want you standing in front of the place outside you had to go to the corner. Drinks were ok but nothing to write home about. Didnt have the food but I can't imagine it being good. The only good thing was when these two hot bartenders in tight black jeans got up and danced on the bar. That was my favorite part of the night. When asked by a girl that worked there if I wanted to sign up for my own chance to win my own ""happy hour"" I said NO I DON'T EVER PLAN ON COMING BACK HERE!

Stopped in there late last night after being at another bar. First of all, the place was filthy. Also, a shot girl came up to me and my friends and was literally HARASSING us to buy shots. We said no several times and she just kept insisting. Then she came back five minutes later and did it again. But that isn't the worst of it.\r\n\r\nAround 2:40, we bought a drink. It looked like people were starting to clean up so we asked the bartender first if it was too late. She said no and gave us the drinks. About 1 minute later, the DJ announced final song and said to start closing out your bar tabs. After that song, the lights came up and every one started cleaning. The workers all started yelling that every one had to get out. We still had our drinks and one of the bouncers told us that we had to finish our drinks in the corner by the door so they could clean. When we went over there, the three bouncers just stood around us staring at us and mocking us about how long it was taking to finish our drinks. One even threatened us that he was going to lock the door so we ""can't leave."" Some one sweeping in the back chimed in that my boyfriend, who was the only one with a drink at this point, wanted to finish his drink like a little girl (not the word he used). When my boyfriend said that he had paid for the drink and was going to finish it, the bouncers ganged up around him, got in his face and told him that he was going to leave now. Some 20 year old in a suit jacket behind the bar tossed $5 over and said ""I'm the owner- Here is your money back. Leave."" The worst part- at this point it was only 2:49!!! 9 MINUTES AFTER THE BARTENDER TOLD US IT WASN'T TOO LATE TO BUY A DRINK. 8 MINUTES AFTER THE DJ ANNOUNCED LAST SONG. WHY WOULD YOU TAKE OUR MONEY (AND TIP) WHEN YOU KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO FORCE US OUT IN MINUTES?\r\n\r\nI have never been so repulsed by ""service"" (or lack thereof) in my life. I urge every one to avoid this place at all costs. It should be shut down.

Terrible Experience. When I went to make a phone call on the street I was told by some man who didnt address himself that I needed to move to the corner. This confused me because it's a public street. I didn't move. This man was a bouncer for McFaddens which is next door. He informed the bouncer at calico jacks that I was not allowed to go back in and that I was a badass (as if I had started a fight). I was promptly not allowed back in without an explanation, and had to wait for twenty minutes out in the cold for my coat. This place treats their bar customers alot like cattle. If the bounce had addressed himself and maybe explained that the cops werent letting people stand in front of the bars I would have moved right away. I ended up missing my friends birthday. WORST BAR.

This is a college bar at its finest. They have beer pong and wrist bands. You can pay for a wrist band and get drinks all night, well drinks of course but drinks they are. It is crazy busy all the time but a great place to just let loose.

Americans traveling to Third World Countries face parasites, dysentery, hostile foreigners, and unpalatable cuisine. Calico Jack's saves its customers thousands on their next vacations by bringing all that great Third World action right here to New York. This was by far the WORST so-called ""Mexican"" meal I have ever had, ANYWHERE -- which is surprising, since Calico Jack's is largely staffed by nasty Central American individuals of questionable immigration status and probable cartel affiliation. The nachos appeared to have been remnants scraped from the dirty plates of customers who had dined before us (and who had declined to finish their similarly poor meals), and tasted as if they had been fished from the trash. There was barely a whole ""chip"" on the plate, as most seemed to be leftover crumbs and pieces. The chicken was cubed, flavorless and rubbery -- one could almost believe that a near sighted cook may have cut up a rubber chicken that a mischievous staff member purchased from Spencer Gifts as a practical joke. The tacos were abysmal. The ""ground beef"" was closer to ""ground dirt"" than any other recognizable substance, and tasted somewhat akin to the black mold now infesting New Orleans-area buildings in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. It has barely been an hour since I left this incredibly bad excuse for a restaurant, and my stomach is already doing the somersaults that usually follow a fresh plateful of Cholera ingested in any one of a number of Third World cesspools. The management and bar staff were obnoxious, as was the hostess who seated us. Our waitress was the one saving grace to this horrid experience, as she was obviously much too pleasant and well trained for this festering boil on the backside of Turtle Bay. Save your money (as it is also overpriced) and try somewhere else. As bad as any other Mexican restaurant might be, it won't be as bad as Calico Jack's.

Cons: The rest of the staff was rude and obnoxious, to include the busboys

I would advice no one go to this bar. The bouncer and the manager were both incredibly rude and inconsiderate. As a native New Yorker, I have never been treated so poorly in my life. I will never step foot in this below mediocre bar, and I will be sure no one I know does either. Not to mention the bar was populated with the underage intern scene and smelled like some one had gotten sick. There are so many good bars in New York City, and this is certainly not one.

A good and cheap way to start the weekend after a loooong week at work. They have very cheap open bar that will get you started on the way to hitting other venues later that nite. Staff are great and they really hook u up with strong drinks. This bar reminds me of that freshman bar I used to go to when I had a fake ID. It was the best bar to go to because everybody got wasted and as we all know wasted=good effin times! You can also sign up for free open bar which you will most likely win within 2 weeks. They also have this thing when they make girls dance on top of the bar like in that movie coyote ugly. It's only good when hot chicks dance on it and not ugly fat girls but its all fun i guess especially seeing chicks that don't know how to dance. I got up there once (the only dude besides staff to get up there!!) and it was fun. Of course I was wasted when I did that otherwise I would have NOT gone up there. Hahaha. Go and experience the fun/good times!! Ohh and the food is great too especially when you are wasted and you are just hungry for anything!!

I'm not really into the club scene but really enjoyed the vibe of this place. It's not a club but a place where you can dance (to good music) with your friends. We had the best drink specials and can I just mention that it had the HOTTEST male bartenders in NYC. Smart hiring by the manager. I did not try the food but by looking at the menu - looked decent. I do have to say that our waitress was somewhat rude and extremely unaccommodating. Other than that, I have no complaints.

Unfortunately I didn't try the food here but they sure do know how to throw good parties. I had a wonderful time here. Had lots of good drinks. The bartenders were entretaining and very generous with the drinks. The crowd, a bunch of roudy young party goers which made it all the better. Be advised that this place gets incredibly crowded and they will charge an admissions fee.

I was contacted because I ""won"" a ""free party"" having entered the one other time I'd been there. The organizer gave me a date, a Saturday, so I thought it would be a good idea to turn it into a dinner too. So I made a 10 person dinner rez, but then got there to find only one waitress, that we were sitting under a very annoying and unflattering hot spotlight that ""couldn't be turned off"", and that the drink specials we were promised (nothing about the party was actually free) were only available if we ordered from the bar and not from the waitress. I had explicitly asked about this so when we saw the bar 8 people deep, we just left because $2 margaritas can't be that good anyway. In sum, don't think that getting a free party there means anything, and the people that worked there didn't know much about what was going on.

Went to dinner with some girlfriends on Wednesday at Calico Jacks and had a fun time. The space is pretty large and accomodates both Happy Hour and Dinner patrons. We only had appetizers which were pretty average. The guacamole could have been a little better but that is only my preference. Everyone there seems to enjoy the happy hour. For $7 you can drink unlimited until 7 pm and they have other fun specials. The crowd was mixed which is great and the DJ played great music. The sangria was awesome and the super large margarita looked great. I would recommend going for happy hour since it seems like the most popular time.

I'm originally from Southern CA, so i would like to think I'm very familiar of how Mexican cuisine should taste like. After being increasingly disappointed by so many Mexican restaurants in NYC, I decided that great Mexican food the way I like it simply doesn't exist here on the East Coast. Went to a gathering here and I was skeptical, but kept an open mind. The margaritas were FANTASTIC, the staff SUPER friendly, and the guacamole AMAZING, and my entree was very tasty!! It's not pricey, just about right. The atmosphere is very cute, the crowd is laid-back, which is amazing for being in an uptight part of town. It's a fun place to kick back with friends. It's now my fave Mexican place in the city...

No, no, no, and finally, no. This place is hardly worth the effort as a restaurant or a bar. Avoid at all costs before it becomes into Coyote Ugly Part II. Actually on second thought, a name change from Calico Jack's to Coyote Ugly isn't a bad idea. Sadly, this place is too ""ugly"" for that. Crowded, the deafening music, and subpar service don't make for a good night out.

Cons: Food, Crowded

.

A good time for lunch or happy hour. Great drink prices during lunch and the margaritas definitely have a kick. After work draws a good crowd - mostly 20s & 30s woth the occasional scummy local. Good to go with a group or alone.

In sum.the freshest guacamole, the best margaritas (try the prickly pear margarita) great food, for lunch, happy hour or dinner, and a great fun, festive place to be! I love going in the winter, check your coat at the door, because you'll feel like you are miles away from cold NYC! The salsa is very good also. Most places it tastes watered down, but here it is great!

Great margaritas in a city where most are all sour mix. And the burritos are awesome too! I thought the only places to get good Mexican were the pricy restaurants, I was happily surprised. It's a great place to meet for an outta control happy hour, or a dinner that can evolve into a great night!

Great music! Old-school hip-hop like Biggy Smalls to current popular music. Food was fine. People were young. Overall, fun place!

Though the food is quite ordinal, this place becomes quite a good night out spot after hour. Rather than waiting to get in to the Vue, try Calico Jack for a little dancing experience! Its dance floor is limited, but DJ spins great music.
