Comfy couches. big chocolate martinis at reasonable prices. (loved that the slass was rimmed in cocoa!) crowd is 50% gay men, and 50% straight singles who seem to have stumbled in by accident. It is located on Gansevoort Street, right in the middle of all the restaurants in the neighborhood and is a good place for a cocktail after dinner and before going dancing at Cielo or Filter 14.

Pros: comfortable
This bar is kind of like East Village hangouts Starlight and Barrage in Hells Kitchen. Definately check it out. Good scene. Decent music. Desent guys...mixed so it's cool to bring girlfriends. Bar can get packed and drinks aren't great.

It's a place that's the kind of cool that doesn't smack of effort. Great mix of people. Laid back and good looking crowd. Primarily gay but not over-the-top, so the ladies and straight guys aren't intimidated. Great tunes! And the staff manages to keep a pleasant attitude even as the after midnight crowd gets more and more crammed. A minor neg...no good safe place to put your coat. That's not a problem from spring thru fall though!

Hell is a good bar to hang out in. It feel's like a neighborhood, local bar despite it's trendy reputation. People are relatively friendly and will actually have a conversation with you. For a gay bar it is very non-threatening and the Chelsea crowd does not really go there. I would say the crowd is more mixed these days than gay. The biggest problem is the influx of trendy twenty somethings that show up every Friday and Saturday because they want to be daring by going to a gay bar in the Meat Packing district.

I would consider this more gay than mixed, but as a straight girl I had a great time hanging out with my group of friends in the comfortable seating area. Despite the cool electronic music in the background, we were able to carry on conversations really easily and to top it all off, the cocktails were only like $6. A stop down the block at Florent for an early morning bite completed the perfect night out.

This place is for men who like men. Ladies, go anyway and have a blast without being hassled by hetero creeps.

Pros: decor
This place is really a lot of fun. Great mixed crowd, cute decor, amazing music. I really recommend this place if you just want to chill. However, it can be a bit trendy. So come prepared.

Pros: Crowd, Music, Ambiance
Cons: Mediocre Drinks
This place is amazing! Not another cookie cutter "trend" bar; Hell has character. Such a comfortable place to chill with friends. I was there on a thursday later than I'm normally out on a school night, but I couldn't leave: the DJ was HOT (music AND looks!) The drinks were very reasonably priced for Manhattan, too!

Pros: Atmosphere, DJ, Drink prices
Cons: Gansevort who?
I love Hell. I go every weekend. I think the staff with the exception of one are wonderful.
The jukebox is so much fun.
The crowd is always interesting and eclectic. My favorite bar in the city.

For my birthday, I invited 50 of my friends to join me at Hell for the night. It was a pretty mixed group of people, and everyone had a great time. The music is great, the atmosphere is perfect, and the drinks are excellent. I highly recommend this place, especially for birthday celebrations!

Pros: Great Drinks, Fun Atmosphere
this bar has potential---it's really cool inside and the drinks are good (albeit expensive, but what did you expect?). however, it was super crowded, there were no straight men for me to flirt with, and the waiter was horrible and got my friend ejected for no good reason. boooooooo. i'll never go back there; they're not friendly.

Loungy, great drinks, easy to meet and actually talk with people, there's fun music and very friendly atmosphere. The perfect Thursday or Friday night drink spot.

Went to Hell for the first time for a friend's birthday and definitely plan on going again. Comfortable, vibey place with great jukebox and some nicely made drinks. gives you a reason to walk around all day and say "i'm going to hell later, you wanna come with me?"

big yummy flavored martinis at pleasing $7- $9 pleasing prices. good jukebox and sometimes a DJ. 50% - 75% gay men, but open to all. a good place to stop after dinner or before dancing in the neighborhood.

The atmosphere was great, the people were friendly, the service...ok, so the service wasn't that satisfactory.
But what bothered all of us was the fact that despite all these things and a cool jukebox, there was no dancing...what's up with that???

This tongue-in-chic bar can be a blast if you go when it's hopping. Last time, as I was leaving a waiter followed me with a pair of vampy high-heeled shoes he'd found behind the curtain of my banquette, asking if they were mine. Alas, no, but it was an oddly evocative parting note....
