I guess when a salon has to go recruiting customers at colleges in a different state then it should be a red flag. Honestly though, I paid the $70 (this was 4 years ago) and thought it was a bargain. My hairstylist was the cutest asian

The salesperson on the street at 34th and Broadway was charismatic at first and I thought, well he has a hard job, I'll talk to this guy for a second. When I realized he was selling something I didn't want I said no thank you and tried to walk away. After refusing to take the brochure back several times he finally did and yelled that I was "nuts" and that I "needed therapy". Not a good look for a spa that wants to come across as high end. The photos on the brochure looked terrible - tacky marble on every surface, flat screen tv's, gold accents. yuck.

there are some state~ments here that ar so not completely tru...

if u purchased the promo from any body i work w/ we told u its $15 when u get there...plus...it says "One Time Registration Fee : $15 twice on the promo itself..so i'm sure u read that!! also the promo says First Day Vist and Second day visit....so that tells u that ur not gettin everything on ur first visit...which is ur hair~services

i can't speak for some1 being rude @ the salon..i'm not there

but i can speak on the owner Maya (who i know is an honorable person), the stylist & every1 that works at the salon is doin every~thing for practically free...of course they're gonna make suggestions

i have hair stylist friends who work at some of the best salons in nyc (Bumble&Bumble, Momotaro & Ted Gibson) as far as i know...every stylist (good or not) it's their job to make suggestions on this color(extra), that color(extra)...this product(extra) that product(extra)...i'm sure the stylist at ted gibson & all the other great salons in nyc/jersey are doin the same suggesting...u already know before go..u gonna pay extra...so stop sayin it like its new...oh i'm payin extra...yeah...u and every~body else lady...u get a computer...wait there's this extra stuff...u want a sandwich from wendy's...wait here's some extra stuff u can get...for extra...LOL

ur comments about it havin a sleazy vibe...i say again..Maya is an honorable~classy woman who has actually given this hair promo some class and Alfangi is a classy salon on 5th ave...i've been in the business of these promos since 1998...i stop for about 6 yrs because..here i go agreein w/ ya...most of the owners that have done this promo were & are slimey~characters...i'm just tellin the truth that's all...LOL...i promote Alfangi!!

i didn't have to take the time to write this...i can just sell the promo & not care about what happens after that...i aint that guy...and i have no reason to say anything except what i know...like most of the people i do this promo w/...we're all well established in other parts of our lives (i'm a dj: come to my parties...i'm playin w/ Africa Bambaataa this sat @ WTB (LIC) LOL) not all of us dare i say it, "Hair~People" are out to destroy u & ur hair experiences

the salon is presenting a great offer ..practically for free...gettin a bad hair~cut is a lot different from this promo being something that its not..a scam...i'm just sayin is all

and unlike some of u that say what u say & hide behind the fact that u can be anonymous...i say bah!!! i'm Ali Coleman & very much in the public eye as...dare i say it...an honorable person...i aint hidin who i am to say what i feel

for all those that i've sent to the salon and have sent me private messages, become my friends on FB, come to my parties..dare i say again...even become like family...thanks for trusting my energy and keep going to Alfangi!!!!

During a promotional deal going on in Union Square, I bought one of their pre-paid "packages" for 30 dollars, which was supposed to include a whole bunch of stuff. When I arrived, I was told I had to pay an additional $15 for "registration", and that I was only allowed to get the haircut, none of the other stuff (facials, etc.). The woman at the front desk was rude. The haircut was mediocre. They told me I would have to pay extra for stuff that was originally listed as part of the package (e.g. my brochure said the package included "deep conditioning" but apparently that just meant regular conditioner, which is something all salons use anyway. If you want the special shine stuff, you'd have to pay exra.) The woman who actually cut my hair was nice, but she did a terrible job with the bangs. The whole salon just gave off a kind of sleazy vibe.

In conclusion, avoid this place.

My stylist Celia was great! I wasn't sure what to do with my hair but said I needed a change. Celia pointed out all my features that should be played up and what styles to stay away from. I wanted a bangs but was really scared because Ive never had them. She suggested with the summer weather I might want to pull my hair back or we could do a long enough bang that I could still tie it up. She also gave me the best highlights ever! Normally I just get highlights on my mousey brown hair but she suggested lowlights to richen my hair through the ends to blend my roots and the highlights better. I have to admit I was scared but we looked through magazines and she delivered the exact Jennifer Aniston picture I showed her. She was really sweet and funny and I got free boy drama advice lol. I will definitely be recommending all of my friends to her and returning regurlarly. Thanks a million!!

I approached by Bret (Brent?) in Union Square today. His promoting approach was aggressive- however, I was interested in the salon. I wasn't ready to purchase the promotion- and so he called me a dumba-s bit-h in public. My thought is... any salon that would choose to have this person representing them is low-quality. Although I was interested in going because of their product and space... I refuse to do so. What a NEGATIVE IMAGE!!!!!

As I write this, I'm sitting in their waiting area, and have been for 2 hours and 20 minutes already. I scheduled an appointment a week ago, confirmed it yesterday, but because I am a new client and didn't know to request a particular stylist by name, I keep getting pushed to the bottom of the waiting list while returnig customers keep walking right in and sitting down with a stylist with no wait at all. I don't care how amazing the haircut I'm about to get could be, I will never come back here again after being made to wait well over 2 hours. Free wine can only keep a woman happy for so long. Now the wine has worn off, I have a headache from sitting in these fumes for 2 and a half hours, and people are still walking in past me straight to their seat. F this place.

I bought the promotion for $60 bucks, made my appointment, arrived at the salon, had michelle as my stylist, AND LOVED THE SERVICES.. I feel like there is something i need to clear up after surfing around online. I saw a few women posting reviews with a 1 star rating complaining about how they bought the promotion and now wont use it due to bad reviews online.. I looked at the reviews before I went as well but it doesnt make any sense to buy something and then not use it especially when the reviews online favor the place your going to. Alfangi has twice as many 5 star reviews as 4 star reviews and has a 4 star rating overall. And some of the 1 star ratings are from WOMEN WHO DONT EVEN TRY THE SALON!!! So for all the woman who buy a promotion, get online and read one bad review.. dont freak out... and if you choose not to go dont post more reviews with 1 star.. this was great place and a great experience for me and its 100% worth trying.. with OR without a promotion.

So, I bought this spa package "deal" from some guy named Kenny or Lenny or whatever, as he emphatically approached me on the street and told me he was hand selecting women to come in to his 4,000 square foot salon on 5th avenue. This was one of the worst choices I made since moving to new york. I was promised a "precision haircut" in addition to a European facial (which is more like 20 minutes of some woman grabbing at your face). He promised me wine and champagne as I was "serviced" but i feel like I was really just serviced by a persistent salesman out to make a quick, cheap buck. The stylist was mean to me when I told her I didn't want to color my hair and so I requested to speak to the owner, who told me that she didn't have much time as she had "other issues" to attend to. The massage promised to me was little more than a non-skilled kneading of my shoulders. Do not fall for this scam by Kenny or Lenny or whoever he is regardless of how persistent, unless you want to end up miserable and out $60.

it is really stupid to fall for the promotional discounts that these people offer.the guy who sold it to me and my friend did not tell us that they have some registration fees other than what you pay to him when you buy the coupon.he confirmed that we will not have to pay a penny when we go to the salon.we go there and the receptionist was not friendly, she said that if we do not pay the registration, they will not offer us the service!!!and that they cannot do anything about it.they asked us to call the guy ourselves and refused to negotiate anything.the owner is extremely rude......never go there...even if they would offer a good haircut, the service is such that I will never go there even if they give me their services for free......

I enjoyed my experience here, i bought my promotion from someone off the street near Bloomingdales. I was skeptical about it reading all these reviews. My apt was with Asta, she was awesome. She gave me a glaze and a hot haircut. I would highly reccomend her. the only thing I suggest, take the first apt of the day. Mine was on a Saturday 10 AM, and I was taken care of promptly.

Some dude on the street tried to pressure me into buying a discount salon package. On the slight chance that he actually works for the salon--who would want to go to a salon that hires pushy, grubby looking jerks to promote themselves?

waited 40 minutes even though i had an appointment, didn't get what i paid for or even what i asked for and they wouldn't fix my hair to get what i wanted without charging me more, stylist overly pushed to up-sell, stylist left me sitting in the chair for 10-15 minutes at a time for no reason, etc. i will never go here again and i do not recommend that anyone else go, even if you have some "promotion" which by the way, is such a joke and a complete rip-off

She let me know what was going wrong with my hair and she added the right color and gave me the right cut so that, when it was finally revealed to me, I teared up. I haven't felt this alive in a long time and I left the salon feeling happier than I've been in months.

Pros: My stylist knew what I wanted when I didn't

Cons: The decor is a little odd.

I'm not sure why everyone was so unhappy with this place... I also bought the street promotion and had my doubts after reading all these reviews.

When I first arrived, they told me the stylist who'd been recommended and with whom I'd made my appointment had called in sick (thanks for calling to let me know...) and I was annoyed. But they quickly paired me up with someone else (a man named Michelle) and he was great. More than suggesting dye/highlights I didn't want, he actually looked at my hair and color and recommended I don't color it until it starts to grey. Nice. I told him my hair had seemed really dry recently and he did an extra conditioning treatment for me, and the shampoo-er even gave me a nice neck massage while she did the treatment. He cut it the way I wanted, turned out great, and even took 45min to completely blowdry it straight (I have insanely thick hair and usually leave salons still half-wet). I think it's the best my hair's ever looked, definitely the best straightening I've had, and I've paid a lot more than this to have my hair done before.

Also - when I was there two girls came in who'd bought promotions for the second time. The receptionist first told them they couldn't use them because it's a one-time-per-person thing (clearly stated on the pamplet, btw), but when the girls fussed a little about how the street promoter didn't tell them that, she backed down, was really understanding, and allowed them to stay without paying extra. That's the total opposite of a scam, people. I'm sure I'd never be that nice if were running a business.

And I definitely don't work there.

I have been going to Celia Ayala exclusively for the past few years. She is truly an artist when it comes to hair. She makes it look easy! Not only has she given me expert cuts and styles, but also the highlights she has done look natural, fresh, and exciting. Recently, I decided to try Brazilian Straightening. I was very hesitant as there have been mixed reviews of the procedure. Celia answered all of my questions and carefully executed the treatment. I can't express how pleased I am with the results. I never thought my hair could be this soft, this shiny, and this smooth. It is now so manageable. I haven't stopped getting compliments!! This has been the best decision I've made for my hair and I couldn't have done it without Celia's skill and expertise!!!!

Thanks guys. I got suckered into buying the promotional package from this guy Dave at Lexington and 57th for $50 bucks. Came home to read reviews abt it and thankfully am not even going to try it out. Why waste another 15-20 dollars for a trial and be disappointed? I will go back to the place I have been going to for 3 years: Hair Decor in Queens. Read up reviews abt it and you will find that they are professional and affordable.

I have been to salons all over NYC -- high end, hole-in-the-wall, whatever. I used Alfangi Salon because of a promotion. It was to include shampoo massage, deep conditioning, haircut, blowdry, style & finish, and some discounts for other hair treatments. The minute I told the hair stylist I didn't want any hair treatments, her whole attitude changed. It was like military-style lob your head down into the shampoo sink, a very rough shampoo which you could hardly call a relaxing massage, then get shooed off to the station. The stylist didn't talk to me at all except "put your head down" once. She was so rough with me during the shampoo that half of my makeup was wiped off my face and at the end, I left the salon with little pieces of hair all over my face. When I called the salon owner later, she said that I must have "misunderstood" and that tall eastern European hairstylist lady is a top-notch stylist. I told the owner that I was not asking for anything, but that I thought she should be aware so other customers do not have the same bad experience. She asked me if I liked my haircut. I said, "it's okay." she said, THAT is the experience -- if I like my haircut, then that equals a good experience. And that was the end of it. If you only want a simple haircut, then try this place, I guess. But if you want actual "service with a smile" rather than stone-cold/non-friendly service, I would skip it. I just cannot believe that the owner wouldn't take responsibility for her staff!

The eyebrow wax was awful..careless and I have to get my eyebrows waxed again. The massage wasn't bad but I was a little cold and it doesn't help to have the club music in the background.

i also got the promotion package and thats why i went to the place. seriously, i should've stuck to my own barber, who is MUCH better, and MUCH cheaper! my hairstylist was siyu, and whoever said that she was good is a TOTAL LIAR! she said my hair was dull and had no shine, even though i had never dyed my hair before or damaged it in any way. she was just talking sm@ck about me so that i would feel the need to invest in some overpriced hair treatment. so, after i denied her "hair glaze" offer, she treated me like cr@p. she didnt speak to me and when i told her to straighten my hair, she did it so carelessly. she wouldnt even pin up half my hair, she just threw it on top of my head in a messy way, NOT what professional stylists would do! also, the package makes it seem like a lot of things, but seriously, its just washing, cutting, and blowdrying.. which is like what $100 on their price list? NOT WORTH IT! i get mine washed, cut, and styled for 25$ at the hair salon i go to all the time, and i am ALWAYS satisfied.. this is the first and last time i'm going.. im not even gonna bother with the second visit for the "european facial." gosh, and i tipped my hairstylist too.. i should've just left.. waste of money!

I got this promotion coupon from my friend, and when I needed a haircut I remembered that it was still on my fridge. Since it's a great deal anyways for a haircut in NYC, (where I moved recently so I do not know any good stylists yet), I went to check it out. My stylist was nice, he was very fast but he knew exactly what to do, i did not even have to explain. I did not like the fact that he was talking on his cell phone while cutting my hair with the other hand... but I loved the final result! He styled it nicely, too. I do not know to tell you the truth if I am coming back there... thinking that I will have to pay its full price... still overall is a nice place...

If you go to the salon, ask for Siyu. She gave me the best haircut I've ever gotten. The integrity of her work was very high- and I respect that (plus I have a movie start haircut now, which I enjoy everyone admiring...)

I have not actually been to this salon, but I was looking at the reviews on here after buying one of the promotions from a guy in Grand Central. I see that most people paid the original asking price of $60 - after I told the guy no a bunch of times, he eventually gave me two for $30! Soon afterward, I realized they must be really desperate for clients if he was able to sell them to me for that cheap. I feel bad for those of you who paid $60 for one and had a horrible experience. I have a hard time trusting new people to cut my hair, but I could have sworn the guy said a manicure was included, which I'm willing to take my chances on, so I figured it would be worth it just to get my hair trimmed and blown out and my nails done. Of course I was wrong - distracted by him telling me how I was "the most beautiful girl he had talked to all day", blah blah. But I'm glad so many people have put reviews on here - even if some of the good reviews are from actual clients, there's too many bad reviews to risk my hair (that I've taken so long to grow long)!

I'd only been to Alfangi once before after getting the promotional at Union Sq, but decided to just get a wash nd trim to be safe. (I wasn't sure how they'd handle black hair) Lately I've really wanted a bob with side bangs, and since I had the 40% off coupon decided to go back today, especially after my friend loved her layered cut the first time we went. My cut is amazing, I LOVE it, and so does everyone else =). The staff was really nice and complimentary, I only waited about 5 minutes before being taken care of, and the place looks really nice. I honestly have no idea why ppl on this site constantly bash this place, I love it, and with my new coupon, definitely plan on going back (with my friend who a coupon, too, just for coming with me). I recommend Magaly, she's a real cool person, nice to talk to, and definitely knows wat she's doing.
**And No, I'm not an employee of Alfangi just trying to hype the place up**

The only reason I bought the promotion is because I have a friend who sells them and I really needed a haircut. The receptionist treated me very well when I arrived for my haircut and offered me something to drink. My stylist took me back within minutes of my arrival and asked what I wanted done. She tried to sell me highlights or a dye job (I dye my own hair occasionally so I have spots). After refusing a few times to have anything extra done, she got to my hair. The cut was beautiful, as well as the layers and bangs she gave me. It was one of the best haircuts I have ever had. The stylist was nice and we spoke about school (we are both in college) and was very friendly. Overall a great experience, but they are great at upselling services.

This salon has been around for a couple of years now; I first fell for their promotion in 2003. I took my sister with me and we went for the manicure, make-up session, facial and hair consultation...we basically planned "a day at the 'spa.'" The facial shouldn't even be called a facial!! This lady was very careless and all she did was rub a pound of lotion of our face after her attempt to sell us a "better facial" for $100 failed. Oh, but the make-up...the worst!!! Lord, that chic had no clue what she was doing and we ended up looking like a 10 yr old did our make-up. Absolutely awful!! The manicure...need I say?! Everything was an awful experience as far as their "spa." HOWEVER, what I did appreciate and actually really liked was my stylist. I was more than pleased with the color and highlights she gave me. I have been going to her ever since for my color and my hair has actually gotten a lot healthier and longer. It is pricey though. And quite frankly they really knock you for their products...they tried selling me a deep condition for $60, when I know exactly where I can go and get the little bottle for like $5...I'm so totally serious!! But, anyway, if you want a day at the spa and have it be worth your while, don't bother. However, Asta (my stylist) really is good; I feel bad the salon she works in has such bad ratings because it really doesn't reflect her work. Well, everyone is different. That said, awful spa...but there can be some good stylists here and atleast I know of one.

Alfangi is one of the best Salons I've been to, and everyone should give it a try, I got the package about 2 yrs ago, and I don't know if the staff changed since then but I was treated pretty well. However, I was not satisfied with the massage and the eyebrow wax I received. I was very grateful and appreciative of the hair care services. Hairstylists and colorist Danielle was good, and friendly, and made me feel comfortable. She's predominantly a master colorists but she knows her stuff, and my hairstylist said my hair is much healthier than before, and asked me what I've been doing. Now I'm a black girl and Danielle is not...lol...and she taught me how to take care of my dry hair, what remedies I should use, and what specific vitamin I should take. The salon uses Aveda natural products not the cheap stuff! and offer you drinks, but they do have some space issues. I received a massage and it was literally behind a black curtain in a corner. But the massage was good co9nsidering the fact that it was only a 15 minute neck and back massage.

Fell for the certificate promotion; I don't know why, I just did. I even called the salon after to verify that it was legitimate because buying from some guy on the street is not something I would normally do. Started to make the appointment and saw all the horrible reviews- no way I'm going there now. To all those who wondered what you can do if you are unsatisfied with services- lodge a complaint with the you-know-who (btr bus bur- citysearch won't et me use the word or its abbreviation in the review) online. Alfangi already has an "unsatisfactory record" with them- look them up at the site.

If you do decide to go and end up having a bad experience, please register with them so maybe something could be done.

Please note: on the back of the certificate it says "due to the exceptional offer of this certificate, please read all the conditions carefully to avoid any misunderstandings." What does this tell you?

this is so so sad. the workers are writing all the positive reviews. they're pretending like they have bad english, or writing reviews in spanish. this is so pathetic. i feel so embarrassed for these people... really, this place needs to be shut down. it's obvious this salon is horrible. just give up guys.. really... it's pathetic. i too got suckered into buying a promotional deal. lucky for me, that guy gave me the deal for only 20 bucks. i didn't get jipped for like 60 like most people did. i'm definitely NOT going there after all the reviews i just read. they don't deserve more money. really, can't people do something about this? can't someone get the police to investigate this place?

Don't buy this promotion!!! This place is horrible. The staff is rude, untrained and unprofessional. My conditioning treatment consisted of a small application of generic conditioner followed by time under a hair dryer while my "sylist" quickly cut another clients hair. During my cut, the guy cutting my hair accidently dropped his comb on the floor and then proceeded to use it on my head without sterilizing it or even rinsing it with water. He was insulting during my appointment. So obvious that these people have no formal training - they literally butcher your hair! NOT an Aveda salon - they have the products on display but none are used whatsoever. If you see any of these solicitors attempting to sell promotions for this salon - STAY AWAY! I can't stress enough how bad this place is.
