Always Excellent
by darlingjulia
The slanderous reviews on here are preposterous. Ive been coming here for years and years and have always had an excellent experience. The laser is amazingly thorough and the service is always welcoming and familiar. They run on time, and yes - sometimes Dr. Dormer suggests a product or two - but that's business, if you dont want it, just say no thanks. I recently went for my semi-annual botox injections and Dr. Dormer told me I didnt need them yet, and to come back in a few months. That's what I like about her - she's not going to give you something you dont need and that's important to me!
Pros: efficient, fast and ethical.
Cons: none

Horrible customer service
by J2354
I don't think I have EVER been treated so rudely by so-called "business professionals". Unbelievable. Not a clue how good or not good the doctor is, but who would ever want to book an appointment to find out when the people that answer the phone do so with total disdain?

relaxing, friendly atmosphere, excellent work
by meme101
I wasn't even going to write a review, I was just looking for the number because I lost my phone but when I saw the bad reviews I had to speak up.
Those people giving one stars and slandering Dr. Dormer are just pure liars. I've been seeing her for about five or six years and have never had a problem and am about to make another appointment. I have NEVER had her try to push product on me and once when her old facialist started to point out "flaws" to be fixed Dr. Dormer cut her right off and I never saw her again. There's a new girl now. She even sent me home once after I came in for an appointment because she said I didn't need anything more done. She's very ethical. Too bad the Bride of Wildenstein doesn't have her as a doctor.
Her photofacials are pricier than other spas but they are also more effective so you won't need a series. They're cheaper in the long run. I like her retinA, like her spa and like her work with fillers. I tried a cheaper spa once but never even saw the doctor and had a tip hungry Russian hard selling services on me and never went back. It wouldn't surprise me if it was one of those aggressive and cut rate spots that planted the bad reviews.
I highly recommend Dr. Dormer's spa.
Pros: Low pressure, excellent work

best skin whiteners and money well spent
by narnias
I had a condition called melesma and I went to several places over the years for help and it got just worse and worse. They helped me and they really cared and checked on me. Now my face is whiter and I have no dark shadow anymore. Thank you for giving me my life back. People do not know how hard it was to have this problem and I tell all my friends that have the pigment problem. I never thought I would have normal skin again but now I do and it is because of this place. Thank you thank you.
Pros: everything
Cons: i live far away

Best of the best!!!
by rosez2
I went to Dr. Dormer for the first time one month ago for Botox and some fillers. In the past, I have visited several of the top dermatologists in the city and have more often than not come out with a frozen or "done" look. Dr. Dormer however, takes a more conservative approach. She does the treatment and then insists that you return two weeks later for a follow-up. This ensures that too much is never done at once and if more is needed then it can be done at the follow-up visit. The results are fantastic! So many people have commented about how refreshed and rested I look. This to me is what constitutes an exceptional treatment! I am so pleased with my results I have already referred several of my good friends who have been too scared to do it in the past.. Dr. Dormer is a rarity in this city and I would highly recommend her to anyone who has been considering doing Botox but has been too afraid. You are in good hands with this Southern gem! Her office staff are top notch and extremely attentive as well. An all over great experience!
Pros: Beautiful, private office space, never feel rushed

I Love this Place!
by seenalot
I have been to several laser hair centers over the years and honestly, nothing really worked. Even with promises and free treatments, I just gave up hope. Then a close friend showed me her legs and asked where she went to remove her hair. DR. Dormer and her spa are fantastic. Gretchen is the medical assistant and she if thorough and a perfectionist. Everyone is so nice and so beautiful in this place. It even has a garden in the waiting area. So now I have no hair and my last treatment was 6 months ago. Now I go for facials and I leave looking great with clean skin. They use medical products on my skin during the facial and I dont break out. I would work there if I could as it feels like a close family. I just drop by sometimes to say HI. I could not recommend more so if you think nothing works and it is all hype, Just go see these honest people. I cannot believe I found a place like this in New York city.
Pros: thumbs way up
Cons: I cannot afford to go every week

Very Pleasant Spa!
by agapi
I had a a wonderful experience at Dormer Medical Spa. Dr. Dormer was wonderful. She spent plenty of time with me so that I could understand what exactly our plan for my face was because I have plenty of sun damage. I had a facial laser treatment for my hyper pigmentation and the outcome was amazing! She gave me a wonderful regimen to go by and I am completely happy because for the first time I do see results and my face is much, much brighter and even. I would highly recommend this spa. The spa itself is so cute and cozy and the staff is amazing also. I felt so welcomed and taken care of. Thanks Dr. Dormer!!!

I have been going to Dormer medical spa for almost 8 years. I have to say I have not written before and for some reason just checked out the reviews. I trully believe that she is the best around and any review stating she burned the face permanently is false. This reviewer I believe is just someone who possibly never even saw her but just writes bad reviews. She has integrity and beware of possibly even competitors out there with a vendetta. I notified the office about the review but they could find no evidence of a person that ever had this problem and certainly not in the last few months. So BEWARE of Bizarre REviewer making False Claims.I had acne which is now controlled and get an Botox eyebrow lift that looks natural. She insists on followups to make sure you are pleased. The laser for spots will burn off spots in one treatment but in one week they are gone. No scarring and the laser is one they use on infants because of its safety and little downtime. So if you want personal attention and great results, go.
Pros: beautiful spa,personal service
Cons: wish they worked weekends

Worst Experience
by juliecr
Please please do not make the mistake of going to Dr. Dormer.
Her work has left my face scarred and burned.
It was the worst experience of my life.
She is arrogant and actually quite bizarre.
She does not take responsibility for her botches.
Go elsewhere!
Run!!!
Cons: thumbs down

Avoid at all costs.
by hollisw
Going to see Dr. Dormer was truly one of the worst experiences I've had in New York. She is without a doubt one of the most unprofessional "doctors" I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. I went in for a vein treatment and afterward I was pressured to buy a cream for my leg. The cream contained vitamin A which is extremely sensitive to oxygen and must be kept as airtight as possible. Dr. Dormer's version was packaged (by herself, presumably) in plastic jars that would not have maintained the integrity of the vitamin A for very long at all. So I declined buying it at her office and asked instead for a prescription of the cream so I could pick it up at my pharmacy. She ultimately refused to write the prescription, probably out of anger that I wouldn't buy her overpriced and carelessly packaged cream from her, and while refusing to do this simple courtesy (that is, if the cream were so necessary, wouldn't it be ethical to ensure I get it, no matter where I choose to purchase it from?) she behaved in such an unprofessional and blatantly nasty way that even my pharmacist was taken aback.
I really couldn't discourage you enough from going to Dr. Dormer for anything. It concerns me that there are doctors like this out there who first pressure a patient to purchase a poorly packaged and overpriced product and then not only scorn them for not purchasing it, but refuse to write them a prescription for this same "necessary" item which the patient has elected to get from a pharmacy. To be honest, the whole experience left me so shaken and uneasy for days afterward that I couldn't even bring myself to go to my free follow-up visit. I don't even want to walk on 71st street ever again.
Cons: everything about the establishment

Best Facials in NYC
by jennie508
I've been going to see Gretchen at this spa for about 2 yrs, and I would never go anywhere else. She makes the whole experience so relaxing, and she is gentle with extractions too. No red splotchs. Just beautiful clear and refreshed skin. They use top of the line products and I usually get the pumpkin peel too. It's absolutely fabulous. She gives a wonderful facial massage at the end of your facial along with a short quick massage of your arms and hands as well. The office is low key and there is never a "scene" like some other mainstream spas I've been to. Prices are reasonable.

Acne Prone Skin
by adormeriii
I am a 34 year old female who suffers from regular acne breakouts. I have tried all of the different programs offered on television but nothing seemed to help my skin. A friend recommended Gretchen at Dormer Medical Spa. I received a free consultation from Gretchen and the most amazing faciel ever! I was surprised her extraction technique didn't hurt, and after that she pampered me till I fell asleep on the table. Gretchen recommended a plan for my skin and gave me samples of products to try. I left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated and looking much better. Now that I see Gretchen on a regular basis I actually get compliments on my skin - that never used to happen to me. Now that my skin looks better I have more confidence because I feel better about myself. Thank you Dormer Medical Spa and thank you Gretchen!!
Pros: Professional, Courteous, Reasonably Priced

Laser Hair Removal that works
by ben_hairy
I always thought I had an unusually hairy back and it made me miserable during the summer with the heat and the embarrassment of taking my shirt off in public. I wasn't going to consider laser hair removal since a friend of mine had had multiple treatments at a local spa that seemed to be ineffective. But my new girlfriend at the time told me that Dr. Dormer had a great reputation and that she had received laser treatments last winter for her underarms and bikini area and was very satisfied with her results (it looked good to me too). After a free consultation and four treatments over the past 6 months I have 80% less hair on my back! It wasn't cheap but I feel great about myself. Thanks Beth wherever you are.
Pros: professional, hospitable, exceptional

Very good, but overpriced
by kstanley
I had several procedures done here. The facial was great - although it costs more than one does normally. Keep in mind that a foot massage is included. I had photo lasering, botox injections and an acid wash. All treatments were very effective - I was quite satisfied, but I am fairly sure that the botox (at $400 for just my forehead) and the lasering (at $600 for the removal of freckles) treatments were overpriced. If they would halve their prices or at least offer two for one type of services, this place would be perfect.
Pros: clean, really nice people
Cons: Too expensive

Lazer Hair Removal
by username1111
when i decided that it was a nessary to get the hair on my neck removed, due to the reocuring razor bumps i was experencing, i did a lot of looking around. dormer lourence was the only place that fully explained all the pro's and con's of the treatment to me, including the possible side-effects to me being a person of color and it was the only place out of the 18 i contacted where i would be treated by a MD, doctor Anita Dormer. after only one treatment, the worst of the in-grown hairs were gone, there were even places on my neck where the hair never grew back, something quite unexpected after just one treatment. overall it has been a wonderfull experence, the level of service was ahead of any of the other locations i visted before deciding on domer lourence, and it was very competativly priced
