It's hard to write this, because I want to see these women and their shop roasted over hot coals.

I've never been treated so poorly in a retail store. I came in to buy a towel. Nothing had a pricetag on it, and that's fine, I get it -- it's going to be expensive. But come on! The women winced and sneered at me every time I asked for a price! They didn't even want to TELL me the prices -- I had to beg for a ballpark.

Next time I'll just go to ABC if I feel like dropping money on luxury linens.

I have been to this shop a few times, the women especially the owner are rude and snobby...Hellooo? You are in Brooklyn, not the Upper East Side, get over yourself already.

I brought my sister in law here while she was in town, we waited 15 minutes at least for someone to show us the towels (which are beautiful colors & patterns but cheaply made, scratchy & non absorbent) and over priced.
As we wait, not to mention I am 6 mo. pregnant...the owner acted like we were such a bother. We each had a few items we wanted to purchase only to be scolded "Don't touch" and "Can you ladies please make a decision" -- We literally waited 15-20min & looked maybe for 5 minutes before she was nasty and rude.
It was appalling to see how she treated two other older women in the store who obviously had more money or who know maybe they were all best friends compared to her nastiness towards us.

Needless to say, we left and didn't purchase a thing.

I live down the street and have many friends that would like this store but i refuse to take anyone there after this weekend.
I have never been treated so nasty by anyone while shopping.

What this person says does not make sense. Clearly this person has a chip on her shoulder, so she notices only the bad versus the good.

This store has so much heart and soul, when I walk into Layla, if feels amazing--even when I make a small purchase, like their $2 bangle or my $300 shirt, it all feels the same: Special.

The ladies who work there are nice and passionate about their merchandise and the store. Maybe you just caught them in a bad moment, everyone has bad days, but this doesn't mean it's a bad store.

Making statements (whether it be good or bad) is a very powerful thing, one should really think before reacting. This reactionary statement by you about my favorite store in Brooklyn is so unnecessary.

I'm so sad to read the negative reviews because I love Layla! I've been visiting this store since I moved to Brooklyn 3 years ago. Whether I'm shopping for myself of for a gift, I always find something beautiful and unique. The store's aesthetic is so lovely, I wish I could move right in! Layla has its own collection and also carries my favorite brands like Madeleine Weinrib, Les Indiennes and John Robshaw. They keep a lot in the back so if you're looking for something specific it's worth asking.

Pros: Beautifully curated

There is nothing left to say that hasn't already been said honestly. These people are EXTREMELY rude. I honestly think they are under the impression they look really wealthy by acting the way they do, when in reality everyone thinks they were born and raised in the projects. Nobody who has any class would act as tacky as they do.
There is SO many better places to shop.

Pros: none

Cons: too many to name.

I bought a couple sets of towels from this store -- beautiful colors and different patterns-- except, the towels do not absorb and feel abrasive (cheap quality yet expensive) You're better off going to ABC Carpet and Home or Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Tried to visit Layla today after reading a piece in a magazine some time ago. Double-checked the opening times on their website and planned visit accordingly (- was day-tripping from Philadelphia so didn't want to waste time). Got there to find the lights on, people obviously inside but door locked. Opening times posted on the door confirmed that they were supposedly open. Went around the corner for a coffee and tried again an hour later. This time, door opened. Three women looked at me as if I had just barged into a private home. I asked if they were open and one of them told me rather abruptly that they were closed as they were preparing for their sale - they seemed affronted that I had opened the door. What a shame - the pillows in the window looked gorgeous and I'm sure I would have spent some money there if they had been open and customer-friendly. Someone needs to decide whether they are running a shop or a private salon.

Shopping for my wife has never been easier. Everything in Layla is absolutlely exquisite. The owner is extremely helpful (and very nice - previous reviewer's comments notwithstanding), and she takes personal interest in what she sells because it is she who goes to exotic and remote parts of the world for her items, spending time to learn as much as she can about each item. It is she who carefully crafts many of the precious stones into the beautiful jewelry she sells. Tiffany & Co. used to be my "go-to", and I'll still go there. But when I'm looking for something special, Layla is definitely the place. I highly recommend.

The objects in Layla are absolutely beautiful...this is where to go to purchase very expensive, stunning pillows and throws. HOWEVER, the person who runs/owns the store gave me perhaps one of the worst customer services I've ever received. I never write these types of reviews, but I was literally stunned by her rudeness, her lack of concern, and her disdain for inquiries. We've all had bad days, but to project your feelings to a customer in the competive Brooklyn retail arena is slightly...well, ill-conceived.
I regularly shop in very high end stores on 5th Avenue, SoHo, the Meatpacking Area...all districts you would expect horrible and snooty customer service, but I've been fine every time...until I walked into Layla.

Save your money and purchase your home decor at other places in the area that will offer better bang for the buck...without insults.
