$3 will get you a soda and 10 dumplings. Still hungry? another $2 will get you 10 more dumplings. Bet you're not hungry anymore.

Dumplings for two, pickled veggie sandwich to share, and two waters for $5. Take the food to go and head to the local park. There are picnic tables there to sit and hang. Usually go here before to Katra. So fun!

To the uninitiated they smell really bad but if you can get past the odor they are super tasty. I don't know why anyone needs a soy sauce for dipping. There is PLENTY of flavor (salt) in the dumplings.

5 dumplings for a dollar. Need I say more? Been eating here for years and never had a bad dumpling.

This is THE place for dumplings. At 5 for $1, you can order boiled or fried pork and chive dumplings, and their 75 cent sesame pancake is my go-to snack. Everything else on their menu is super cheap as well and the same guy is always running the show in front and taking orders. Definitely check it out, but make sure you take your food to the nearby park to eat as there is limited and crowded seating inside Prosperity.

This was an iphone find looking for places within short distance of my soon to be departing Chinatown bus back to Boston. Located across the street from a school, at first glance the patrons were out of towners, who did their cheap eats research and were eagerly waiting to sample the dirt cheap menu. And when I say dirt cheap, I mean dirt cheap. It was like a dollar menu at the Golden Arches, or Da King, but sans all the processed food fanfare. Behind the formica counter was a giant wok laden with dumplings that were being snapped up 5 for $1. Menu has about 20 options, none higher than $8 and thats for ...ready for this? 50 dumplings!.

I asked for an order of fried dumplings with pork and cabbage, served immediately, while eating ordered vegetarian for my companion. Also tried the boiled variety with added touches of vinegar and sriracha. Their fried sesame pancake was also great and piping hot.

Within 10 minutes of the dumpling feast, a swarm of ravenous school kids no older than 15, jammed in this tiny storefront and the scene turned clearly into a dumpling stomping ground. Gladly, we were satiated by this point with dumpling delight, for all under $10 for 2 !! Cant beat that !!

Pros: Hot off the wok fresh dumplings

Cons: Hole in the wall/tiny

Watching the 3 or 4 people whipping out dumplings by the dozens is worth the $2 or $3 you'll pay for the meal. Add to that the best tasting dumling and the fact they can survive the cost of owning a place even as small as that in NYC and you know that they are simply the best!!!

Don't expect much to look at, but if you can get over the hole-in-the-wall feel you will encounter the best dumplings ever. The bonus? They're CHEAP! We make a stop once every couple of months to pick up a bag of 50.

The secret is out.

I love this place. It's right near my apartment. Whenever I'm hungry and want something fast, I always come here to get fried dumplings. They are only 5 for $1 and are delicious. There isn't much of a wait and they have the dumplings made in a pot, making more every few minutes.

This hole in the wall restaurant leaves no hole in your wallet. You can order 5 fried dumplings for $1. Yes folks, ONE DOLLAR. You can also buy won ton soup and sweet and sour soup for also ONE dollar. The taste is authentic.

First a word of caution; this isn't a place for the discriminating foodie. This is small hole in the wall, down a side street usually frequented by only the locals. However, ask anyone who is a fan of authentic ethnic foods and they will agree that if you want to find the best local flavor, always go where the locals go. Prosperity doesn't have a lot of atmosphere, menu options or even seating capacity. But what is does have is the kind of simple, delicious food you'd be likely to find in a food cart on the streets of Beijing. Great dumplings, delicious wanton soups and a sesame and vegetable pancake that will knock your socks off. The total bill for me and the little lady? Three dollars. Was it fine dining; no. However, if you're in the market for some simple, tasty and undeniably authentic Chinese fare, this little gem is more than worth the effort to dig up.
