Hello Erica, I am the owner of Wild And Wet Pets. The Nice woman that waited on you works for me. I am very sorry about the mix up on the hamsters, but I can assure you it was not done on purpose, there is nothing to gain by doing this. My apologies to you for her sexing the hamster wrong but mistakes can happen. I would have let you return her if we were at fault. Seeing how you didn't ask her if you could return her, I assume you are happy with her. Sometimes hamsters can live together with out conflict if they are raised together, but not always. With your purchase of the first hamster you were provided with a care sheet, and on the care sheet it explains that Syrian hamsters are solitary and must be kept alone as a general rule. However There are exceptions to the rule, I have seen it myself many times. We do give out the care sheets but some customers choose to do what they want anyways. Again I am very sorry for the mix up. Dawn is a very good employee and seldom makes mistakes. I do wish you would have talked to us before jumping to bad conclusions, she is very upset that you think she done you wrong, and intended harm to any people or animals.

I am a first time owner of hamsters. I have always known about their diet and how you need this and that (running wheel, water bottle, what kind of food, housing, etc.)

I went to the store on Thursday 1/20/11. I originally purchased a male teddy hamster, and then decided to go back and get another sibling from the same tank since the first one i bought seemed lonely. I was supposed to get another male, but I just found out last night (23rd) by looking at the second hamster and its a female! I figured this out because I look up information to find out how to see if its female to a visual aid. How are you a qualified pet store owner if you mess up the sex?!?

Because of the owner's first mistake of the wrong sex I looked into more information to only find out that these hamsters are solitary animals. However, I was never informed that you could not have 2 Syrian hamsters within the same cage because they will eventually become very territorial as they get into their adult age which is after a couple of months. (even if they are from the same litter or even lived harmoniously in the same tank at the pet store). Just as I read this information, both of my hamsters started fighting within the cage (biting viciously at each other and causing wounds).

This upsets me because even though I've had them for only a couple of days and they are extremely sweet and good about being held, I hate knowing that this pet store owner knowingly sold me both of the hamsters that were going into the SAME cage! That is animal cruelty to me.

Also its inconveniencing at the same time since they started fighting at 10 PM and the pet store is not open (the only store that sells hamster proof cages within Hornell) so I had to make a makeshift, temporary cage, until I can talk to this shop owner about either reimbursing me for the hamster and taking her back. Or giving me another cage for the second hamster, free of charge for her numerous mistakes if she won't take the female hamster back.

I'm very, very disappointed with this business and its very unprofessional and sketchy.
