I went there and they overcharged my credit card to give themselves a larger tip. I thought that 25% was good enough but I guess they felt differently. I called a number of times to speak to a manager and when I told them what the problems

On Wednesday nights they host a trivia tournament which is a blast. A great group of people gather to answer a bunch of fun questions. The winning team gets a $100 towards their bar tab and 2nd and 3rd get free pitchers.

I am super glad I found this place as it is just an over all sick vibe. If you are in the area looking for a great place to get your drink on this is the spot. Also very fun day drinking with good pizza and food.

If you're not in the mood for the seediness of Hanks, and with the Brooklyn Tavern now alternating between a morgue and a raunchy frat house, Cherry Tree is 'da Bomb. 4th Avenue Pub is a bit too closed-quarters and Pacific Standard is a little too obnoxiously hip. Good drink specials and friendly staff. They don't have food anymore but you can easily order from a vast menu selection.

Great selection of beers and a funky DJ spinning Euro tracks. Also has an awesome outdoor area for warm nights.

This is the oldest bar along this stretch of 4th Ave. They have a huge back patio that is great when it is open. Ownership changed about a year ago and it seems like they are still trying to decide what will work best for them, so they have sporadic specials that usually seem like a ripoff from specials from the neighboring bars. Still a decent place to go if you want a little less of a crowd.

i love the bar. hands down. i don't need to say more but i must. the selection of beers is outstanding and even with the food on hiatus it is still enjoyable, plus you can order food from the corner and it's there in 10 minutes.
the bartenders are phenomenal. was there today and the daytime girl (Kate i think her name was) was fun as she rocks out to the music selection while making a banging margarita. (she's easy on the eyes as well). the guys are sweet and reserved but once they strike up a conversation just sweethearts.
loved it. i'd recommend it to anyone in parkslope or in NYC near a train.

I love a good pint of local beer, in an unpretentious bar that I can bring a date to or where I can meet friends after work. I like not having to shout for or fight my way to the bartender. I also hate bratty young hipsters that ruin neighborhoods and don't know how to behave. Keep your clubs. You can have the LES and your shots. Go to Union Hall, did you know that place has free bocci ball? But stay outa my way, kid.

Pros: Great Beer. Cool Atmosphere.

Cons: small place

Whoa, whoa, whoa... Well, I never expected reviews like this. My girlfriend and I lived in Brooklyn for three months during the summer of 2007 and this was our favorite place. We are not big drinkers i.e. one, maybe two with dinner, and are fairly reserved being from the midwest. I had noticed this place and so we went. It was an amazing experience! The pizza there was phenominal, the crust was perfect, thin crust, and absolutly delicious. The bar does fill fast but I would rather sit on the patio anyway. Speaking of which, coolest patio setting anywhere. They have a brick oven in the back of it and that really added to the atmosphere. My one complaint? They gave me the wrong beer...so they let me drink that one and also got me the right one...and didn't charge me for either. Not really much of a complaint.

Very disappointing attempt at a UES bar. Over priced drinks and frequent closings by the board of health are real draws. There is nothing like heading out to meet some friends at a bar and seeing a closed by board of health sign on the door.

I've had some really nice experiences here. It is what you make it... you can either come alone to read your book, go alone and chat up the super friendly bartenders and patrons, or it's a nice place to hang with your own group of friends. It has a slightly upscale/dive pubby feel if that is possible. I find it a nice respite on that weird stretch of 4th avenue... hey, it beats the KFC and holy roller latino church :)

I walk by the Cherry Tree every time I head to the subway. The signs on the windows promising nights of trivia, Guitar Hero, and karaoke in a setting that looked like a comfortable place where everyone would eventually know your name. Unfortunately, that dream is now gone from me.

Sure bartender, I'll buy your story that your boss won't let in groups of people if the females are under 23 and the males are under 25, as if your boss was creating some modern hybrid of ladies night and the law. Then I'll further buy your story when you are pressed for details and explain that if any one of us were there by ourselves, it would be OK. I sure can't wait for that magic age of 24, when my female friends become the epitome of classy social drinkers, while all my male friends will suddenly become violent and destructive drunks (but only when in groups)!

Trying to keep out immature kids so they won't "tear down your signs"? Advertising 5 dollar beer bongs and nights of beer pong is really a good way to do that. For Christ's sake, Cherry Tree, you have Big Buck Hunter. You can't fool me into thinking you run the swankiest lounge in Brooklyn with your garbage stories.

Want to know what is actually "immature"? Your bartender pulling out his cell phone and making a fake phone call to his "boss" to check to make sure that the "ladies night" policy is really in effect. If you don't want us there because you have never seen a Maine ID before and you are confused by the pretty colors, then man up and kick us out. Don't give some fake apology and BS story then give your buddy a high five as we walk out the door. This isn't some one horse town. I don't need you.

I feel I could more accurately review this bar if I had been given the chance to actually patronize it. When I, a female, arrived with 3 male friends (the 4 of us either 22 or 23 years of age), we were literally kicked out of the bar due to both our ages and our genders. The bartender exasperatedly explained to us that the bar did not allow groups of females under 23 or males under 25 in the bar AT ALL because "people that age trash the place and rip down our signs". This was a Sunday night, very quiet, and my friends and I were completely sober and amicable upon entering this bar. I was in disbelief at this "policy" of theirs and suspect it was a defense of the whims of the bartender that night. For a place that offers beer bongs, karaoke, and Guitar Hero nights, it seems fairly illogical to deny any groups of 23-25 year olds admittance to the establishment. Don't bother trying to go to Cherry Tree -- if you're their target demographic, they inexplicably won't even let you in.

If you're dropping in quick and can get out as fast you might be fine, but spend any time on site and you're sure to run into problems. Young, stimulated and out of their depth, the place oozes mediocrity. IN an area with so many options and a site with so much potential just give it a pass and wait for the next thing to sprout up after its inevitable decline.

beer pong, funnels, dead pigs on a spit--wow, not my idea of a great time as i'm now OUT of college! if this is your atmosphere, you should just crash frat parties. go to sheep station down the street, way cooler

I had my husband's birthday party in the backyard and had about 30 people. I rented out the upper part of the backyard for my party. Everyone kept commenting on how great the place was, how good the food was, and how nice of a time they were having. Before the party, this place was our favorite place to hang out outside in the neighborhood. The food is fantastic. The pizza (especially the spinach, goat cheese pizza) is always good, and the service is improving. After this weekend?s party, we?re bringing everyone we know here and telling all our friends. My only complaint is they seem to be short staffed and the wait staff seems frazzeled at times. Overall, highly recommended, especially on a week night.

Pros: Backyard, pizza

Cons: the inside bar gets noisy and crowded

the outdoor garden at cherry tree is great! as are the happy hour mojitos and cosmos for only $4. pizza is tasty as well. they need more servers though. our waitress looked like she was waiting on the entire bar and outdoor area too. she was completely frazzled and spastic, but understandably so. they need to be a little better staffed. also although the pizza tasted great, we waited 45 minutes for it to come. i'd try it again on a less crowded day perhaps.

I threw a birthday party here last weekend, and the outdoor patio was perfect. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful, and the drink prices are reasonable. The food was great too! Delicious pizza, and fun treats like sliders (mini-burgers). The only bummer is that there's no music outdoors so the atmosphere is lacking a little something and because of the neighbors, the party had to be moved indoors at midnight. We left immediately after we were moved indoors because the atmosphere inside was like a frat party (young girls dancing on the bar, people screaming profanities in your ear, etc.) It was, overall, a great party. Definitely worth checking it out!

I've never actually written a review but this place was so bad i felt I had to warn others. I stopped in with friends one Saturday night. Apparently this is THE place to go if you're underage and want to get served. It was like a high school party, complete with drunken idiots knocking drinks all over the place and water gun fights...and I'm talking about the waitstaff and owners. The music was so loud you couldn't even hear yourself think, let alone conversate with others. Also the bar clientel seem to be in one of two camps: dealer or buyer. If you're looking for a nice place to relax with friends, then avoid this place like the plague. There are so many other better places than this.

They lionize the "drunks of the week" on an oversize chalkboard, own and operate a beer pong table, have a fully-functional funnel behind the bar, hold the beer olympics every few months, keep shooter girls on retainer for their bigger events, and condone the wholesale slaughter of anything with antlers. So it's a drinking bar. If you want something more mellow, head across the street, or one avenue over. That said, this is really a unique spot. The backyard has to be seen to be fully appreciated, the staff is friendly and helpful, the pizza is really done well (especially the gorgonzola pie), but the beer selection seems to be lacking identity. It's almost as if the proprietors can't decide between stocking a drinking bar vs. a beer bar. There's the usual American swill for mass consumption, an impressive (but uneven and pricey) bottle selection from around the world, and a few middle-of-the-road offerings on tap (Stella, Harp, Magic Hat). More seasonals and/or microbrews on tap would be a plus, but when it's time to don the drinking boots, I know where I'm going.

So, I went in to get a pizza after work. The bartender asked if i wanted something... i ordered and then he suggested a beer while i wait...I figured it would go down smooth with the pizza even though i was hungry and tired and not really thirsty. As brazen thugs arrived and left, smoking and conversing about this b&*^% nd that b#@%$...I waited patiently for my pizza. Half way through my beer I inquired as to the location of the bathroom. The bartender cordially directed me there. When i returned he mentioned teh oven was being fixed and my pizza would not go in ofr another hour at least. what....you didnt know that when i ordered? I left. never to return. walk by at night teh crowd speaks for itself. I guess my review is friendly bartender. Do yourself a favor, cross the street and carry take out or order delivery at the 4th Ave pub.

ok I AM biased. This is my friend's place. But I am still impressed by how well he's done with this place. The inside is very nice, the bar is great, the bartenders and managers awesome (ok yes I know some of them but still). And the backyard\garden I can't say enough about. They have a pit to roast a pig which they've done a few times. BBQ ribs in the front on some weekends. The trivia night is super popular but I think lame (like a library out there!). I love it. Also it's close to my place so yeah, I'm biased in that regard too. but still! cash only.
