They didn't listen to what I wanted, "keep the length just clean it up, I'm growing it for fall" - simple instructions for beard and hair but he was too concerned with his cellphone and looking at his watch. Never again!

I have always been skeptical about getting my haircut away from home (Baltimore) since I moved but I came here and was very satisfied. Anyone looking i would recommend this place.

I have had a lot of haircuts in my travels but this one was yet the best cut I have ever gotten. The barbers name was Jason. He took his time and focused on the details and shape of my head.He didn't talk much but damn sure can cut hair. I received nothing but coments for the next 2 weeks. The atmosphere was great and the other barbers were funny as hell,I had a great experience!

Granted the over-all styling of Freeman's Sporting Club is pretty sharp. Masculine, seeded with vintage and maintaining an undeniable level of snobbery that may even make someone feel special to be there...BUT
the quality of craftsmanship is just poor.
I purchased three "Brooklyn made" dress shirts all 3 of which lost their buttons during the first wearing! (Not even laundered yet)
When I brought them back in to explain, I was met with the most arrogant of attitudes. The nerve of me to bring these back in! When I looked for another style to exchange them for I realized that I had been overcharged for these shirts.
The sales associate explained to me that all of the shirts hanging were incorrectly priced and I had actually been charged the correct price. WHAT? Give me a break.
I left the shirts to have the buttons sewn on properly and waited for over a month before they were ready. I called several times and was told that "next time" it would be easier for me to just take them to my tailor for repair. Imagine!
This place is lame.
If you really want some of this (now pretty cliche) aesthetic in you shopping, just head over to Ernst Sewn, or the (JCrew) Liquor Store, or RRL, or Duncan Quinn, or Bespoke, or.... all of which places you will find outstanding customer service, a warm gentleman's atmosphere and premium quality!

Pros: Nicely styled store and employees

Cons: Poor Quality, Overpriced, Terrible Customer Service

I bought the hype, and shelled out the extra $40 clams for a cut here a while back. It was a terrible mistake. Didn't give me the cut I wanted, and it looked retarded. I had to get it fixed at the cheaper barber a week later. Avoid the hype.

I just returned from the new FSC outpost on Horatio St. and it lived up to the billing. The way people talk about it you'd think going there was akin to frat plege party, military initialion or a cotillion.
Nothing is further from the truth.
Just like any great bar, confidence, manners and a good communiction will get you everywhere here.
Granted it was a world-class crisp fall day, I happended to be somewhat well out together in non-vintage bty(save my 1930's heirloom Elgin watch with a band by Jutta Neuman - what can I say my girl has great taste). Upon entering much to my suprise I was immediately complimented on my jeans bty which suprised me as they are not japanese selvage denim and did not cost $270 - ok they were a sample and probably did - again thanks to the lady).
This place is fantastic. No ambient e enduced dj stylings, no espresso, no chicks, just great people, great service and great product (finally can replace my Sharp's Kid Glove after shave). I left feeling clean, refreshed and yes a bit better for the ware for the record. While leaving (tip a little more than Super Cuts boys, trust me it'll make you feel better) Sam gave me a nice goodbye, by name. I'll be going back soon.

I've been 3 times now, 3 different "stylists" 3 completely different haircuts. None of which I asked for. I gave a general idea of what I wanted and expected a little advice, I got a few nods and platitudes and then each one proceded to cut my hair either haphazardly with no shape or style or too short and basic. Why did I go back 3 times? Basically the hype! I convinced myself that they knew what they were doing. Wrong. I won't be making the same mistake again. The staff are friendly enough, but I think the continual banter between them distracts from what they are supposed to be doing. (cutting hair, if you're reading this guys) There are plenty of cheap barbers that will give as good or better cuts. For the record, Shorty is not one of the 3 and seems to get good reviews.

Pros: Friendly boys club

Cons: Basic barbershop cut for $50

It took 3 years of looking for a good barber in NYC. I finally found him! My co-worker spoke highly of his Barber Shorty at Freemans barbershop, I had heard other friends talk about their barber Shorty, so I decided to give it a try. I was very happy with the cut. He seemed to know exactly what I wanted done, with very little explanation. If you are in search of a great haircut go see Shorty at Freeman's Barbershop.

this place is the best. i've been getting my hair cut at freemans for over a year now. the barbers know what they're doing. i've gotten a cut from nearly all of them. shorty is great, van's got great hands, ivan's the man, there's a rather odd gent with a very impressive moustache who gives great shaves, joey's very good. they also have some very nice products, "sutlery" as they call them. nice one chaps, great stuff.

I had been in the store a few times, and loved it. I wanted to buy everything, but couldn't afford anything so I decided to come back when I was ready for a haircut. Went there yesterday and now I wish I hadn't. $40 for a haircut that is lop-sided and uneven (and not in some hipster way). Next time I'm going to stick with the $14 place down the street from me. At least that will come out even.

I would not suggest going here

He told me that he was going to check out this new barbershop recently and I was concerned. Ever since we've been dating I took him to my salon. To my surprise it was the best hair cut I've seen on him! He really enjoyed the experience! They were quick and to the point but have the artistic talent needed. I strongly recommend this for any guy either for his own needs or to impress a certain someone!

I highly recommend this shop. I have followed one of the barbers for years from Astor Place to Brooklyn, back to the city. This is the best place he has worked for. This isn't a cheap convenient Supercuts, if you care how your hair looks, if you want to find a barber / stylist you can trust then I suggest you try this spot. The price is reasonable and the staff is always nice and helpful. They don?t accept appointments, and even though they are always busy, I?ve rolled in at different times and never waited more than 10 minutes. The clothes and suits are stylish and a rare find.

Between reading and hearing word of mouth about Freeman's Sporting Club, I thought I would give it a try.

walking in the staff was very polite and responsive, they answered all my questions. clothes wear great.

I didn't have the same luck with the barber Ivan, he took forever to cut my hair, and when he was done it was( a good cut) BUT not what I had asked for. Maybe he was to busy talking about himself and how bad my last cut was or he just did not listen to my needs, either way my haircut took over an hour and I left unhappy.

Over all, I like the store, I will return to shop in the store and I may return to try another barber.

This may sound like an overstatement, but I promise you it is not. Lets review shall we? Custom hand made suits, shirts, casual blazers, great hair cuts and STRAIGHT RAZOR SHAVES with no salon B.S., all antiques including light fixtures are actually for sale, awesome mocasins, brooks saddles, black leathermen (the pocket knives, of course, not an S&M dungeon). Really amazing. Go in, write your name on the chalkboard, try on some clothes and shoes, get your name called and head back for a haircut and shave, come back out and get whatever fit right, leave an incredibly satisfied, practically enlightened man. Was in Freemans for Lunch on a Wednesday, stopped in the store, ended up hanging out there till closing. Met an old guy Red who asked me some riddles, got some grips for my bike, an old kris kristoferson record, 2 button downs, one of the best haircuts in my life. Man I love that place.

Was excited to have an "old school" barber place in the 'hoot but was sadly dissapointed with the haircut I recieved. Have had A MUCH BETTER barber cut at several of the FOR REAL barber shops in an daround the Lower East Side and at 50 bucks a pop (including tip) one would expect something a little above average, not below.
Though rusticly edgey and trendily appointed with lots of mannish / lodgish charm it's sort of misses in delivering the product. The staff too is charming enough!
Was someshat dissapointed with the clothing and I REALLY wanted to like this place. Shirts are made in nice fabrications yet with moderate eye for detail and cut. The suits were not well cut or finishied at all with very shlocky details. You would be much better served rooting around J. Press or Brooks Brothers for something to transgress against and mix into your Williamsburg wardrobe.

IN GENERAL ---- look but don't buy and find an older barber who knows the score.

I'm your typical guy who hates to shop. Most stores for guys seem like they were designer by Sanjia, or while parting all night in South Beach. The arrival of Freemans Sporting Club into the wasteland of New York shoping, is like when Michael J. Fox went back to the future and took charge! Basically, this store and barbershop are exactly what I've always wanted in a store. Great quality handmade clothes, great relaxed vibe and helpful staff. It my new Peach Pit.

I went to Freeman's for a haircut and was extremely impressed with the atmosphere, quality of customer service, and the cut itself. $40 is more than I usually spend, but it was the best cut I have had in years and I definately plan to go back. The old-school atmosphere, from the chairs to the decorations, is very impressive, and they add in unique touches like a warm towel for your face afterward. The only complaint I could possibly have is that they don't use a straight razor on your neck like many italian places. The electric razor just doesn't do a good enough job. I probably could have asked for it, and will try this next time. Definately will return.
