I stumpled upon Bin 71 last night. The place is very small, offering about 20-30 total seats. The place was quite busy for Wednesday night and the drinks were farily priced. Beers were about 8 and wine -8-12/glass. This place is ideal to take a date for drinks and some finger foods. I didn't try any food, but the music was low enough to carry a great conversation. The only downside is that due to the size, getting two seats at the bar/table was a little difficult, but it's a great place and highly reccommended.

Pros: Ambiance, Romantic

Cons: Maybe a little too small

My first & only time there my pocketbook was stolen. I was sitting at the bar and it was under a coat at my feet. According to some patrons there trying to help me locate it, it's been happening a lot there. The bartender couldn't have cared less and handed me a bill as I was leaving. I reminded her my wallet was in my stolen bag and she just shrugged. Luckily my friend who showed up to help me paid. And just last week a friend called to tell me it happened to the girl he was with so between me, the people that night who said they've been there when others had it happen and my friend last week, you'd think by now they'd install cameras or something but obviously no one there cares.

I have been coming to this Bar since it opened years ago. The atmosphere is great, the food good for what they are trying to achieve, and the wine list is chosen wisely. But, the rude service is just unacceptable. The ownder also owns Barcibo close by- the manager is great, but again most of the females this guy employs to bait men are just rude. Rude.

Pros: Nice Wine Selection

Cons: Worst Service you will find on the UWS

My girlfriend and I always stop by here for great wine and food before a movie or play.
We have such a wonderful time always. We've been so lucky to have Bin in the neighborhood.

This a very nice small wine room :)
Pretty crowded, but it has a crowd of relaxing people.
People from neighbourhood get their friends or collegues and go for a drink after work. They chat, try wines and have a conversation with other customers.
Try their cheese plates.
They have a huge selection of nice wines to any taste.

It's great to have this little wine bar around especially since you don't see your typical young college bar crowd. The clientele is generally in it's 30's and on weekdays one can find mainly locals from the UWS packed into this little space. So if you just moved to the UWS it's a great spot to meet new people who live close by.
The wine choices are good and I recommend trying some of the offered desert wines, especially the Austrian Karcher Trockenbeerenauslese.
Maybe you should not go here if you are really very hungry, even though the little snacks are all very delicious but not cheap.
Many reviews mention the bar staff and most of them comment the same way: that they are rude and not very professional. For the record, I completely DISAGREE with these statements. The 3 ladies I have come to known who work there are all very pleasant, especially when one has a "please" and "thank you" on the lips when ordering from them. Maybe these magic words were missing when the critics of the bar staff went there. Anyway, I have been many times to this bar and also introduced quite a few friends to it and nobody ever told me that they have been treated rudely.
In summary, this is a place I highly recommend.

Pros: neighborhood people, intimate, fun

Cons: the music is sometimes too loud, get rid of the TV!!

I work near Bin 71 and I can't tell you how happy I was to find it among all the offerings in this area. Bin 71 is a perfect place to meet your friends for a glass of vino after work. The wines are simply delicious. They have a really nice selection and if you like wine, you will leave here happy. Expect to pay $9-$16 dollars per glass. The food is delightful to, but it's a bit overpriced and the portions are very small. The meatballs are yummy, but they are $12 for 3 meatballs. This is the single drawback of this place. If you like cozy spaces, are need a glass of wine and on the UWS, you should check it out!

This is a fun spot and if you can get a seat you will enjoy the tapas.
It gets crowded but the people are generally friendly so it doesn't tend to ruin the experience. If you're in search of a good glass of wine on e the Upper west, you've found it.

Fantastic! Very welcoming wine bar. This place was packed on a Monday night! Great food and an unbelievable selection of fine wines. Also has some great beers on tap you won't find anywhere in the city! Great place for a lady to sit at a bar and have a glass of wine!

Good tapa, though not cheap and not the best tapa in town. But you won't say yech!
Good WBTG. We spent $100 for 4 plates, 2 WBTG and 2 Pelligrino mediums. Crowded as hell by 6P. Young good looking crowd. Service is a little slow, mostly due to size.
Have fun

The place is great, service "IF NOT AT THE BAR" is excellent, the food is superb, especially the meatballs. The bartenders seem to be in there own world and for the size of the bar two are really not needed. I sat at the bar several times, in which I drank and ate, my empty plate was overlooked for about 20 minutes, until one of the waiters took it away, again the bartenders don't do anything.

The two guys that hustle all night are great and make the stay pleasurable. Wine list is good as well as the selection for beer!

MY SUGGESTION HAVE THE OWNER BARTEND!

I love this place. I am regular here, but what keeps me coming back is the two guys who work there, covering about 75% of the patrons. There are usually two bartenders behind the bar--always two young women who lack professionalism and are generally rude. If it were up to me, I'd replace the "witchy bartendresses" quicker than it takes most people to walk in, see how crowded "the Bin" is, turn around and leave. I come here for the great wine, good food and the outstanding service of "the guys", as my boyfriend and I so elegantly refer to them. Our guys are always there with a smile, recommending the best, new wine on the menu. They make this place what it is... I just hope they are compensated accordingly...

Pros: Service (not at bar), Great wines, Great food

Cons: Expensive, Bartenders are rude

The wine selection is good, but a bit expensive. Small, small, small.. Bartenders were two young girls, acted like college girls. They were horsing around so much with each other behind the bar that the service wasn't so good. Seems to me if you're going to run a classy and expensive place, you should hire some appropriately professional bartenders. Thumbs down for the hiring manager.

If you're clueless about food and wine, you won't like it here. Otherwise, if you can deal with the small space, the wine selection and tapas menu are outstanding. Have the codfish soup and tell me that's not the best $10 you've ever spent. Anyway, they do an excellent job here.....

I had a horrible experience at this place. I was very excited when it opened in the neighborhood a few months ago and eager to try this place, but I will never go back. The bartenders were rude and offensive - the worst customer service I have experienced in a very long time. With all the other great places on the UWS, I would not recommend this place.

I went with a girlfriend on a Friday night. Amazingly we were able to get a seat! We had a wonderful time and loved the food and wine. I can't wait to go back on a week night when the crowd my be a little smaller and slightly less pompous. The owner stopped to say hello to us, and that personal touch was worth it! I will return!

Nice to see a great wine bar on the UWS. Get a bottle, your money will go farther. Lots of good unique wines, also recommend the cheese, the brie melts in your mouth. Great place to take a date before or after dinner. Very quaint.

Small can be cozy, but this is just uncomfortable. It was hot (if there was air conditioning inside you could not tell), and crowded - it was literally teeming with pompous old fools that love to pay too much for not much of anything. I went to the place expecting a lot more because of the favorable reviews. A word of caution - don't pay attention to the hype - this place is just barely mediocre.

Locals have been abuzz about this hip new wine bar since its opening, so my friends and I finally checked it out. This is quite a welcome addition to the Upper West Side, a neighborhood known for its plentiful sports pubs and dive bars. We have some basic knowledge of wines and found that the bin71 staff makes great recommendations. It cares about its customers' comfort, shares its knowledge about the varied wine list, and creates a friendly, unpretentious air. We went on a Friday evening and stayed for two hours -- the place is definitely cozy but its size actually enhances the atmosphere, as you can converse with your neighbors if you feel so inclined in an intimate space. I also sampled and enjoyed its fresh bluepoints and rich cheeses. I urge you to stop by--the west side needs a place like this!

The attentive inclinations of manager Lawrence and his staff combine here with a generally serene but upbeat & well-mannered crowd, great wines and satisfying, often creative small plates to cast a warm & bubbly vibe all around. The bar staff I've experienced over several visits are uniformly great and keep a caring eye on one's comfort in a typically packed, happening atmosphere that must at times be as demanding as air traffic control at O'Hare. May I rent one of those 18 seats, please???
