Great Spot For Birthdays

by Ukraine

Went for my birthday last weekend and had a great time. Everyone was very on the ball. The doorman and manager took great care of us even though they were being harassed by some butt heads at the door complaining that they can't get in. Frankly guys that I don't think any club would want the way they were dressed and the way the acted. The DJ was great, even played Happy Birthday for me and played a mix of everything, even stuff I haven't heard in years. Thanks guys I'll be ack soon.

Pros: Staff, Music, My Friends

Cons: Long line of B&B trying to get in.

Not what I expected

by 23sun2shine

In this day of age you would expect that racism would be over, and that we moved on to something better since we have a black president, but unfortunately we did not. ------Standing online waiting to get in was just a nightmare for me because the door man felt that I was the wrong race for that particular night (crazy right). When I finally got in front of the line I tried to speak to the door man about us being on the guest list, since my friend is having her b-day party, he just ignored me and allowed people behind me to get in. Which I felt was unfair since I waited for my turn to get in this place. This went on for about 20 min. Until I realized this was a race issue since he was allowing all the white woman and men to get in front of me which made me feel insulted and embarrassed because we were dressed for the occasion and I was speaking to him with the respect that any human being should receive. I then finally got of the line with my boyfriend and decided to walk away and go to another club. My friend who started to have her b-day party there then decided to leave because she knew I was insulted and embarrassed. Therefore all of us who decided to celebrate her b-day there left and went to another club in the city were race is not an issue. -------I suggest if you have a mix crowd of friends do not bring them there for any occasion.

Birthday Celebration!

by TakeMeOut

I received a Birthday letter in the mail from 49 Grove offering me a Birthday Special (why don't all places send these out?), so this past weekend in celebration of my 24th Birthday my friends and I decided to stop in. We had soooooo much fun. The music was amazing, and the crowd was HOT!!!
We got one complimentary bottle since it was my birthday, but we decided to buy more once we were there! The prices we very reasonable and the services was great! I felt like we had VIP service with waitresses, bus boys, and managers checking in with us constantly! My girls and I all agree when I say that this is a really great Birthday Party Spot, plus the Bartenders were really handsome! ;) We will be there again tonight for sure!

Pros: Music, Staff, Good looking Crowd

Cons: A little over crowded.

We really had a really great night and will defenitly be going back to Grove for another girls night out!

Great Time

by Masum1

I came to 49 Grove a few weeks ago just to check it out and maybe have some drinks, but as the night passed along a few of my friends and I decided to buy a bottle. From the moment we got seated until the moment we paid the bill we has a really fun time. The waitress was tall and blonde and she was constantly checking in with us, making sure we had everything that we needed. The bottle prices we very reasonable. Later on in the evening we had some more of out friends arrive, the doorman let them in with no cover and no problems. We have gotten bottle service at a few venues now and I must say that 49 Grove will be a venue that we visit again. The DJ was amazing and eventhough we got a few drinks spilled on us by the bachelorette party seated beside us, we had a great time watching them dance. 49 Grove is a great venue to come and have drinks with a few friends, but seems like you could have a really good time if you had a birthday party here. There is a great VIP area secluded from the main area of the lounge, it was great!

Pros: Good Crowd, Hot Waitress, Music.

Cons: The Bachelorette Party at the table next to me.

Good everything!

by Rene4Real

So I went a few years ago & it was good and went back because I had such a great time. And It stood up after 2 years. The door guy was not a j*rk the bottle staff was cute but not too pushy & the DJ was great. I had 2 of my friends book their birthday parties there & they loved it had a blast. oh yea they don't push you into 1500 @ the door like the "other " clubs. Use discretion, it is a hott spot. If you go try a little earlier so you get a great table because it gets packed

Pros: No Fuss & the sexxy private rooms

Cons: none

Great time, great service

by CVNYC

I recently went to 49 Grove for my birthday, had a great time. There was no trouble at the door even for my friends who came in late, we were given a great table that was the right size for my party and the people who showed up later. The next day I had a question about the bill and called Grove expecting to get the voice mail. Instead I was immediately put in contact with the owner, Aram, who answered all my questions and also emailed me copies of my receipt. I've never had such helpful and efficient customer service from a nightclub before, and would highly recommend them.

Pros: Great space, no door hassle, amazing customer service

Awesome Time at 49 Grove

by mereditheats

I went to 49 Grove last weekend with a bunch of friends. Picture it: 5 hot girls, bottle service, tables, looking for a slamming night out. Got right in and skipped the line, seated at a pimp table right near the DJ booth. They were spinning some really hot hip hop, we were totally taken care of all night long...and most importantly it was a good looking crowd!! I have already booked my best friends birthday party there in two weeks bc we had so much fun. Cant wait to go back!

Pros: Hot club & djs

WORST PLACE IN ALL OF NEW YORK

by Soniya

After weeks ( yes weeks) of planning a bday party with 49 grove, and talking to the owner Aram (or however you spell it) MULTILPE times We get to the door and the door person says they have no such reservation. The best part is when we asked for Aram the owner whom we had set up the party with he doesnt pick up his phone. He does however respond via text message, ha! Then he goes on to say how there has been a huge mistake and will give us a complimentary bottle. ( all via text) Funny part is he apparently has no communication with his GOONS at the door. So the door GOONS look at us as if we are crazy when we say that we have spoken to the owner. This place is NOT worth it. I don't know if it was poor planning or the fact that they saw a group of ten people of Asian American decent all together, whatever the reason their unprofessionalism was uncalled for.

The best part was when the door GOONS had the audacity to tell us to go to to a martini bar around the corner and IF they didnt have enough people by 11:30 we could come back with a cover charge. Thanks but no thanks. We went to a different lounge and dropped more than 1K for drinks....if 49 grove wasnt run by incompetent racists that money would have gone to them. Dont waste your time, or your energy with this place no matter how friendly the owner is with u on the phone... TRUST ME take your business elsewhere.

Great Service

by RICHL

Thank you 49 Grove my party and I had a blast this past Saturday. Generally I never write reviews unless I was disappointed in the venue. But the only reason I am writing one is thank 49 Grove for their honesty. I had made bottle reservation for about 20 ppl. about 2 weeks prior. But I received a phone call couple of days before saturday from the office saying that they were almost booked and needed to confirm my reservation. They had asked me to come in earlier so they can hold the table for me and mentioned that they will allow my guests to come in no matter what time they came. The place was fully booked and had a huge line outside and only allowed guests in that had reservations. I go out alot and never did any of the other venues that I had been to made such arrangements for me. They usually give you a BS excuse about your party and make you buy more bottles. I did end up buying more bottles but thankful that I wasnt pressured in doing so. Thanks again 49 Grove team you guys are truly professional.

This place smells

by Rameo

Was here a couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine were joking around today about how smelly this place is and decided to see what others said about this place. Obviously many of the reviews on here are written by the same people who probably work for the venue. This place is def. NOT what others have written. Its small, it smells, full of very unattractive people and thinks it's a club. The decor and couches are nice but other than that it's not worth coming here. If you want to go to a real club don't come here, even though they have a good club DJ.

Pros: The hot blonde bartender and the DJ

Cons: Pretty much everything

Not once that I have been to 49 have I had a bad time or bad experience. I've celebrated 2 birthdays there and had just some nights out and every single time the staff is attentive & considerate, the music is unique and keeps you moving all night, the selection of bar is premier and there are beautiful people everywhere. Every single one of my guests even love this place, I love 49 Grove and would go back any weekend!

A Birthday Party To Remember

by ClassyCanadian

This past Saturday I held my 30th birthday party at 49 Grove. Aram (the owner) was very helpful in setting up a plan, and offered up a free bottle in return for me choosing their venue. My friends and I could choose between a 2 or 3 hour open bar, or, if they were looking for a more low-key night, they could choose to pay cover and buy drinks on a one-off basis.
Although there were some hiccups at the door when some friends arrived ahead of me, Aram quickly came to meet me and our wires were uncrossed.
The venue was lit perfectly, with fun tunes and the perfect loungey vibe I was seeking. The table that Aram had arranged for us was in a great spot, had plenty of seating for my 30+ guests, and allowed us a great view of both the door and the dancefloor. When the open bar closed at 1am, our complimentary bottle came out and the party continued. Overall, I was treated very well by Aram & Caesar, as well as our lovely bartenders.
Although it was my first visit to 49 Grove, and I was nervous about making my first visit on such a big night, I really enjoyed myself, and will definitely be back. The feedback from everyone who attended the party was similarily in line, and it was clear from looking though my pictures the next day, that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

Pros: Service

Cons: Door Guy came with a bit of an attitude.

Perfect attention, service, drinks, music and ambiance!

by CindyB3

If you like the feeling of having a personal concierge, this is certainly the perfect place to host an event! Held a bacholorette get together for my sister and couldn't have been more pleased from first contact to the end of our evening. Eric Biberman was professional, gracious, curteous and catered to all of our requests. We hosted a 3 hour top shelf open bar for 18 ladies in the den of the lounge which is tucked privately away which was perfect for our gorgeous stripper...which by the way was also recommended by the lounge ;) Eric asked that we provide his cell phone number to our entertainer and he took care of the rest! He made sure to meet the entertainer, escort him to an area for him to prepare, set him up with a tray and drinks in order for him to enter the room as a waiter to surprise the bride...every detail taken care of by Eric, down to the sparklers he provided for the stripper! Anya our waitress was wonderfully pleasant and made sure all of our glasses were always filled. This type of service allowed me to enjoy a spectacular evening of decadence and indulgence! Besides the service for a private affair, its perfect for mingling in and out of your own affair:) The crowd and music were very nice...modern mix of jams and a nice grown and attractive diverse crowd. I would definately come back! Thanks for a great night!...I'm still getting calls from the girls expressing their excitement at an unforgettable night! Eric and 49 Grove I can't thank you enough!

Pros: Service, drinks, ambiance, music and crowd

Cons: one unisex restroom

I love the lighting and atmospehere in this club. Its below ground so its all one floor. In the summer it gets a little hot but any venue will with enough body heat. Girls, its great if you have heels on, theres carpet inside =). The DJ plays great music all night. They even let my friends dance on tables, they're pretty carefree. Its a great place to make some memories in with your friends. I love this place.

Pros: good music, great lighting, carpet, nice decor, good drink selection

Cons: pricey drinks, nasty bartenders,

NEVER BOOK FOR A PARTY

by zaniram

!!!DO NOT TRUST THEIR PROMISES!!!
!!!OVERBOOKED, WILL NOT GET IN DOOR!!!
!!!WATERED DOWN DRINKS!!!
!!!RUDE MANAGEMENT!!!

Went on saturday night for friend's birthday. By midnight the place was certainly past legal capacity. My friend booked one of the backrooms over 3 weeks in advance. Granted, she was given an incredible deal, thanks to a promoter, buy 2 bottles get 3rd free. The Gray Goose we got was 100% certainly watered down, $250/watered down vodka, which was probably not even Gray Goose to begin with. The party started off alright, and the DJ was very good. Around 12:30 we were told to give up 1 of the 2 two tiny tables in the very tiny room that we already had squeezed a dozen ppl into. Another party now "demanded" the space to share with us and because they bought more bottles than us they suddenly became top priority. the situation was horribly handled by managment. Rather than apologize for the "misunderstanding" we were told that the club "NEEDS TO MAKE MONEY, AND THIS IS HOW THEY DO IT." In short it was lots of drama, and so much drama in fact that that other party that wanted the space got so bored waiting they gave on going to this place...which was good for us but the mood was already ruined.

Pros: good music, nice space, popular

Cons: too popular for no apparant reason and overbook parties and fill space to over capacity

Would Never Return!

by pupumimi

My friends and I went there and purchased a bottle. We later on purchased second bottle and was told by the manager that we could keep our bottle and return whenever we prefer. 3 weeks later when we wanted to revisit, their story changed. So basically, we spent over $300 for a bottle of vodka that has an expiration date: they can only keep a bottle for 7 days! (that's their new version of story.) Worst place ever!! DO NOT go there, specially after few drinks. They can totally rub all the money you have!

Pros: Thumbs down

Best serviced lounge in the city.

by dgirl25

I just had my 25th birthday party at 49 Grove this past November 30th. I closed the space down just for my family and friends. It was amazing service. I had a little less then fifty people, and it was absolutely wonderful. Eric, the event director really took care of every single detail that I had requested. From the type of music the dj played to the food, to the look of the event, it was wonderful and he was wonderful. 49 Grove catered it for me, and the food was amazing! My guests are still raving about it. I had an opened bar, and usually the drinks at an open bar are watered down, not here, they were perfect. Every single detail was met to the core. Thanks Eric!

Pros: Service, food, drinks, atmosphere

Cons: none

20% mandatory gratuity at 49 Grove? Bite me.

by 49grovesucksass

gra?tu?ity , noun, plural gra?tu?ities : something given voluntarily or beyond obligation usually for some service ; especially : tip

This definition of "gratuity" from Merriam-Webster is completely lost on the management / bar staff of 49 Grove in the West Village. Given voluntarily? Beyond obligation? Not at this poor excuse for a club if you run a tab with your credit card. "Total f*cking B.S." are the words that came out of my mouth when I closed out my bill and saw a 20% gratuity already added to my total. I'm used to seeing this in restaurants when you have a party of 6 or more, but never at a bar and never for a party of two and never for credit card customers only. Seriously, WTF? Yeah, I know -- some foreigners from Europe don't know that tipping is customary here. Some people get drunk and forget. Some people are just plain cheap. I hate cheap people, too, and it stinks that some bartenders get stiffed. But seriously, WTF? It comes with the territory. If you want steady income, get a day job. Most bartenders I know pull in a lot of coin, so if they're getting stiffed all the time at 49 Grove and need to pull out this b.s. policy, maybe it's because the service there is abysmal? The funny thing is, I'm not afraid to spend money, especially when it comes to booze and hot women. The bartender was cute, nice thingies, etc. and she served up a mean drink. I would've easily tipped her anywhere between 25% and 50% depending on how drunk I got, how nice she was, etc. But instead of having to work for her tip (too much to ask for, apparently), they build it into the tab. You lose, 49 Grove: for a kind word ("I like your shirt", "you have great hair"..whatever...even lie to me, I'll probably believe you), she could've doubled her tip. But she chose to go for the quick (and probably illegal since they don't warn you ahead of time) 20%. I won't be back and instead will be blowing my hard earned cash at some place that deserves it.

Pros: none

Cons: 20% MANDATORY gratuity

Can not get any worse

by citykitty85

It was after 12 when I walked in there, and the place was nearly empty. Kids (or so they looked like) everywhere, not to mention that none of them were good looking. Bouncers are more strict than they need to be especially for a place like this. The interior design is like a maze, and not in a good way. "Secret" rooms that you don't even want to go into. Drinks are ridiculously exp. Went on a Sat, maybe that is why, but would never ever go back there again.

worst place i've ever been to

by dennn

Went there for my best friends B-day. made reservations in advance for 5 bottles. expected great things from what ive heard but was greately disappointed. crowd was wack sloppy & fat people every where. worst experience was from the staff.... it was like they wanted us out of there or wanted us to buy more bottles. busboys would come & take away our drinks w/o asking us, so our bottle would finish fast. not only that but we had 3/4 of bottle left, they would come & empty it out in ice & take the bottle away. place was hot no AC, music sucked, low celing. place smelled cause of carpet through out the place. will never go back again. I have been to almost every lounge in the city & i would have to say this 1 was a huge disappointment for the amount of $ we dropped here.

Pros: none...just being honest

Cons: avoid this place no matter what you heard, unless u like disappointments

great place to have a private party

by umdmike

Last weekend I had a surprise birthday party for my girlfriend here. First thing to mention is that the promotional manager, Eric, was fantastic. He is accessible at all times and really personable.

We had a large group (40-50ppl I think) and ran an open bar special w/ private room and cupcake tower for the birthday girl. Everyone had a really good time - the room was all to ourselves, drinks were poured strong and the music was good (from what I can remember). The only downside I can see is that this place is relatively small, but you can combat this by just checking it out before you book.

Overall - great staff, strong drinks, and a fun place to have a private party.

Pros: accommodative staff, strong drinks

Cons: relatively small

Best place to have a private party

by nkapur

I just planned a private birthday party at 49 Grove this past weekend and had the best time. We had the place to ourselves for roughly 50 people along with an open bar for 2 hours. The staff was awesome, and more importantly the management (Aram & Eric) were easy to work with and very accomodating. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to have a private event at a hot space.

Pros: Great staff, reasonable prices, awesome scene

Cons: Can get a bit crowded later on in the evening

BEST BACHELOR PARTY EVER!!!!!!

by dannydelorea

I went to my best friend's bachelor party last Friday at 49 Grove and I have to say it was one of the best I've ever been to. We had our own private room with a HOT waitress and a room service buzzer! The bottle prices were on par with most of the clubs in NYC, and the manager Mas kept checking in to make sure we were taken care of. The only complaint I have is that the night ended too soon...we were NOT ready to leave by the time 4am rolled around.

Pros: Private room, hot waitress, great music, vibe and atmosphere

Cons: Low Ceilings

Great envrionment, music, and service

by cstox2000

I organized a birthday party for this past Saturday and was more than satisfied with both the club and the service. I had about 75 people show up and they all got in without having to wait in line. The manager set me up with a great table location that was able to accomodate my party. Everyone was raving about the DJ--he was playing different rock/hip hop blends that went over really well. My waitress was assigned to just my party and she was attentive and sweet throughout the entire night. I have only been to 49 Grove once, but I would highly recommend it for any kind of party!

AVOID UNLESS U WANA GET RIPPED OFF!

by joiseysgal

This place is pretty and played good music last Saturday night. Those are the only good things to say about it. I have never paid so much for drinks before at a mediocre place. I bought 3 drinks and the bar tender, who was rude and inattentive, charged a 20% gratituty and the bill came out to over 51 dollars!! They weren't even strong drinks at all!!! The bouncers at the door acted like this was the place to be, yet when we went inside at 1130, it was totally empty! Totally not a place I would ever go again!!!

Pros: good music after midnight

Cons: rude bartenders, PRICEY and WATERED down drinks

Only good thing about this basement club is that it's not very popular with out of towners, but there is probably a reason for that. The bus boys and waitstaff are the rudest I have ever seen. I asked them very nicely to not take full drinks off the table when they were clearing. A minute later the Indian bus boy brought his other bus boy friend with him and openly started acting belligerent. Saying, "don't tell me how to do my job". Very calmly I said relax, you are only hurting your tip, then they called over the floor manager, another Indian guy, and without even saying a word to us he lifted the near empty bottle of Grey Goose off our table, as if to say, "get out of my club". This was our second bottle. We were a nice group of good looking girls and guys buying multiple bottles, and the Indian waitstaff somehow felt entitled to act up. It was outrageous. I honestly can't imagine what they thought they were doing. Suffice to say this place is way way too crappy to put up with service like that. Don't believe the hype about a mercedes waiting or VIP table service. This place hands down has the worst servers in Manhattan. I live a few blocks up from this place on Bleecker and there are tons of better places with much better DJs in the area. If it's an easy door with a short line you are after go to Highline Ballroom. You still avoid the B&T and get a much better experience.

Pros: Cheaper bottles

Cons: Horrendous Waitstaff, No Dance Floor, Dreary Basement Decor, Too Lax Door Policy

Great club, even better owner!!!!

by Davinia

I was on Bleecker street with my boyfriend getting some frozen yogurt from eskimix, which i have to add was delicious, when i met the owner of 49 grove. He took us to his club and we had an incredible time. The DJ played some really cool tunes, and their cockails kept me dancing to the ealry hours of the morning!!! Cant wait to go next saturday.

Best none B&T club

by MikeDee

Was here on a Sat night. The place was full of great looking women and no B&T crowd. DJ Patrick Carroll was great mixing hip/hop, 80s and house and kept the party going til 4. Def one of the best sounding DJs. The place was packed, I recommend checking this place out, if you're sick of those 27th & 28th St B&T clubs.

Highly recommmended for business owners with a reputation to uphold

When I saw this place and knew right away this was the spot to host my next social networking event! The members of NetMixer are held to a certain standard and 49 grove has that. I will be hosting there regularly. check us out at Netmixer-events dot com

Solid Fun

by jdfromtheblock

I love on this place!!

Shout outs to Life, Ceaser, JD and the rest of the staff. They're the greatest!

I frequent this place mostly because my roommate promotes here, but I truly do enjoy the atmosphere. The ceilings are low which I personally find comforting. I'd consider this place more of a lounge then a bar (maybe that's what it's actually classified as I don't even know). But the staff is very personable and there's almost always enough room to get you're swerve on. Bow chica bow.

Music wise - they play the same type of songs you'll hear at any major clubs (Modern pop songs, hip hop, Journey that you can't help but sing tto, old school stuff like Blackstreet - No Diggity LOVE IT perhaps because I was drizzunk). But that's besides the point.

If you're down for a more intimate setting where you can chill/ and/or dance like a maniac like I usually do with your peeps or some cool cats you have yet to meet then I say give it a shot. NOTE: Preticious bitches/desutcbags are unwelcome! I highly reccommend sticking with the clubs where you can rock that super sexay mask of yours.

I actually just came from there so this review might not be the most insightful but hopefully you'll pick up what I'm puttin' down. Contact Rex Workman or Jennifer Denes on Facebook and get hooked up with free admission/drinks all night.

Peace out party people!

P.s. I'm serious bitches and d-bags stay away. I have a mean left hook and I know how to use it.

Pros: The general vibe. Read the damn review. I'm lazy too just do it. Dual handles on the staircase for overly inebriated folks.

Cons: The TVs? The lack of House music? Whatever nothing's perfect. Just check it out.

Great Space, great staff, good time!

by SrBNYC

I went to 49 Grove with my girls for a bachlerrete party and we had a blast. Even though, the holiday weekend made it a bit slow, the music was awesome so we had a blast . The staff was fun and the drinks were kickin. It was a night we will all remember. I totally recommend this venue.

Pros: music, space, drinks

Cons: can be too cold, if you go early

Sloppy

by Jeremiller1601

This past weekend we had my girlfriend's 30th bday at 49 Grove. The space itself leaves a lot to be desired, it reminds me of a high school party at a friends house in his basement when his parents are away. There's not a lot of room to move let alone dance, and the "back rooms" they provide are disconnected from the rest of the place. They also had a flat screen in the room itself but it was broken.

The stafff was nice and responsive but only because I made sure of it by sweetening the deal for them. The manager was also accessible as well if/when we had any issues. With that said their billing department and their follow through has been awful to date. They mischarged me for the night, TWICE, and even though my bank is saying both charges were placed by 49 Grove, they don't seem to have a record of it which has become very annoying to deal with and I'm skeptical to their claim that this "never happens."

My suggestion is you either go to 49 Grove randomly so you're not trapped there if you hate it or find an alternative place to have a party cause this place did not live up to the hype.

This place is a joke

by Fontana7

This place is not a club. This place smells horribly and there's a $20 entry fee. For all the clubs - some of the hottest clubs do not charge cover. For those that do, there are so many other clubs that are worth a cover fee. This place is not one of them and the management are jokes.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: The location, low ceilings, sound system. the smell
