Ratings_icons Mingle Among Beautiful People!!!!!!!!!!!!

JessicaRabBRIT

49 Grove always performs to my highest standards everytime I come in. I work in the industry and I am never disappointed by my service. The staff, let alone the whole club, is classy (and beautiful) and everyone in this lounge knows how to have a good time! The DJ plays great music, and regardless to a prior review I just read, I watched Pulp Fiction on every television in the club and didn't notice one malfunctioning television?

The only people that do not have a good time here are the people that choose not to have a good time. Period. You seriously have to check this place out! I'd dress to impress though, because this place is filled with gorgeous and trendy west village goers!!

Pros: Always a good time

Cons: It's NYC, bring your wallet

Ratings_icons Good except for the DJ

ChingChing7

Went to 49 Grove last night. Have heard of the venue for sometime now but never actually went. Went with a group of friends last night and really enjoyed myself. The venue itself is very nice. Plenty of room to dance as well as areas just to hang out and chill. The only problem I had was with the music. The DJ was all over the place with his song selection and there were many times in which the music cutout and there was silence for about 3-5 seconds. Dont know if there was something wrong with the sound system or if the DJ is really that awful. Even without the music cutting in and out, the DJ was still pretty bad. The crowd was very attractive (generally people in their mid 20's) and the staff was pretty friendly. I will definitely come back in the future, hopefully the music will be better next time.

Pros: Attractive venue and crowd

Cons: DJ and music

Ratings_icons Avoid even if your'e buying bottles

boomer51

This place looks nothing like the pictures show...its just a basement ...thats all...I went for my birthday with about 20 people..which probably takes up the whole place. They told us 3 bottles minimum which we agreed to, the total was $1500. I was with about 9 guys and 11 girls.(keep in mind very pretty girls) I told the bouncer I had about 4 more people that were on the way and it was cold so I would come out and get them when they call. They were so nice to me bouncers doorman and list girl....Once they took the credit card and gave away one of our tables, we were annoyed but stayed at the two tables. My friends called about 20 min later and I went up to tell the bouncer they were with me, he told them to wait on the end of the line. If they wanted to get in they had to buy bottles too. basically everything i asked and he said yes he totally ignored at forgot and became a Ashole I went to the girl with the list who I called on the phone 3 times prior to make sure we would have no problems and she acted like she never spoke to me. I guess after reading some of these reviews, all the hotspots will tell you that you will get in no problem....cuz once you are there you most likely will buck up and go in. I spoke to the manager, and I never met a bigger punjab punk than him. He was the worst of all so finally before I broke his face....I went downstairs grabbed the girls and guys got my card back and btw if you were smart since the places always ADD things to your bill (somehow there was 4 bottles and shots and redbulls on the bill) get a credit card that has a small limit like $500.. worst case scenario if it does somehow go thru, tell the bank you didnt use that service). Anyway we left and went to another club in the meatpacking district had no problem getting in and didnt even buy bottles. just had to pay small cover but well worth it. I always have a good time anywhere I go, Iv'e been to Guesthouse, home, marquee, one, gspot, cain, cielo and always had a great time

Pros: Had hot girls with me

Cons: service, staff, place, basically everything

1st off the person who tried to bash on the place is a nuts. they are always packed ! there is always a line. and new years is crazy every where. the thing about this place is that you do need to be in the know or hot to get in .. my friend does the door and hes not the nicest guy when your not the part. when i go there and i ve seen celeb giants football players rap stars etc they didnt go to a bigger club to get mobed by the normals. they came to lil 49 grove because they let you right in b/.c your someone and they give your priavicy. dont go there if your looking to be king of the room because odds are there is someone who is always cooler there!

Pros: getting in is the pro

Cons: they could use more bathrom space

Ratings_icons 5 Star reviews are Frauds- All club owners and promoters

pdv_33

The great thing about Citysearch is that you can have candid reviews from any bar or club in the city by normal people who actually go and experience the place. You always get people who rave about a certain place for whatever reasons, and people who rate it poorly because they could not get in etc. However, when I looked to see what other people were saying about 49 Grove I was shocked to see how stellar and spot on the reviews were. The perfect reviews just kept going, and were all about the great service, hot people etc. And then I decided to look at the people who reviewed 49 grove with 5 stars, such nightlife enthusiast who had nothing but the greatest thing to say about it. It turns out I need not look far. Everyone who has given 49 Grove 5 stars on the page below has ONLY RATED 49 GROVE. This means that its clearly a promoter/club owner. Pretty lame if you as me. In reality this place is more like 2-3 stars. Here are the 5 star reviews, click on the names and you will see that 49 Grove is the only place they have reviewed. A little suspicious. kwall8 kmarie11 hungover goodonpaper antyson artistsweetsbecker djanya lawless65 tpbigbeatz howid1234 xaviers2005 goswam zacrubin melliemel4 jyzon12222 cbloomnyc kstevensnyc katstevens cbloom123 lemo0701. Ratings_icons New Years Eve Disappointment

mouseylu

This place suckered me with a lot of false promises.. First, open bar??? ummmm... There was one bar, with 2 bartenders which blatantly said if you didn't have $$ in your hand(for tipping) you didn't get served, They actually had to see the cash in your hand... and they were just strait up BEEEEEEP. Of course this was all if you could even get to the bar which was a 12 foot shelf, and a 100 person line...Appetizers????Where?? I didn't see one tray of any thing... and the breakfast?? Ohhh yes the breakfast.. crusty bread and bagels at 4 in the am.... yummy! The DJ was good at first, then his ability to mix started to slip. There was a lot to be desired for the sound quality. Sorry to say I can"t agree with the other's raving about tis place... it was a disappointment :( and not worth the $$. I might consider another try on a normal night out on the town...

Pros: easy to get to. people at door and bus boys very nice.

Cons: bartenders were mean. sound quality

Ratings_icons Waiting in line for hours with a false promise to get in

jada423

Despite being on the guest list, last Saturday I stood on line for over an hour with the promise of getting in. I only made it to the front of the line because people kept leaving and warning us that they were on line for over an hour. I was dressed well and usually get picked off of lines but the cocky doorman was not budging. The female bouncer with the cornrows was extremely pleasant and friendly.

Ratings_icons watch out for criminal waitresses

buddhapup1

What would have been an otherwise great night was marred by our short dominican waitress's (with short hair) attempt to add on an additional tip for herself at the end of the night. The door was great, the management was great, the music was great, and the waitress should be investigated and arrested. Its a shame that such a dishonest little waitress should leave such a bad taste in our mouths for a lounge that clearly went out of its way for us. Kudos to Mas (manager) and the door staff, but shame on the waitstaff for being dishonest.

Pros: manager that seeks to impress, great music

Cons: dishonest criminal waitstaff

Ratings_icons Perfect Private Party Space

melliemel4

I recently had a private party for 100 people at 49 Grove couldn't have been more pleased with how the evening turned out.

The club was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. Prior to the party the event staff worked closely with me to ensure I had everything I needed. The DJ called beforehand to chat about what kind of music we wanted.

The night of the event the door/entrance was well-managed and efficient (no standing outside in the cold), the drinks and service were fast (the bartenders happily poured our very own specialty/custom cocktails), and the GM was constantly checking up on everything. The place looks great -- very sleek decor with candles on the tables and stems of orchids placed as accents.

It was a very well run, organized party. I had a blast knowing that I could just sit back and enjoy the evening without having to worry. I'd recommend 49 Grove as an event space without hesitation. They're detail oriented and focused on making your private party perfect.

Pros: Excellent service, Chic decor

Cons: None

I went here for a friends birthday and we had a great time. No wait at the door, and we were escorted right in to our table. Doorpeople and staff were very pleasant. Waitress was very attentive. The music was GREAT! (hip-hop/dance) Music you can dance to all night long. The crowd seemed to be lacking some good looking people though. Overall, it was very fun.

Pros: great service, great music

Cons: not so good looking crowd

its a long staircase to a low ceiling area. there are couches on the perimeter. it reminds me of high school parties in friend's basements. There is lil room to actually dance. Its a very chill place. There's only one bar when you first walk in. And everyone is with their "clique" in a section of their booths/couches. Very nice if you want an intimate gathering of friends

Pros: small intimate space

Cons: not good to meet people

Ratings_icons Avoid!!!!

missmianyc

A few friends and I tried to have a birthday celebration here this past Saturday. Due to the rude bouncer and the insistance by management that we HAD to buy a bottle in order for our guy friends to get in (there were only about 10 people at the lounge) we moved the party else where. We promptly got there at 10 but was informed the staff has not yet arrived. Not a great experience and I would not recommend it.

Ratings_icons Birthday Fiasco

nin05

First and foremost, I was promised a "large" room in the back for my "large" birthday party. Instead I was given a mere table despite the eight quite extravagant bottles I purchased for the evening. I should have realized the foreshadowing upon entering the velvet rope entrance that rejected my punctual guests and myself at 10 PM. (I was told to patiently wait another 20 minutes despite being told that the doors do open at 10 prior). Another noteworthy mishap was the shifting of parties from the small table to another common large room by a supposed larger party more worthy of this space. Additionally, each expensive bottle was consumed by other infiltrating people present in the vicinity. There was obviously no favor given to the large business brought to them by my event. Little did I know that such an affair would require a legally binding contract to adhere to basic principles. An extreme disservice. I leave you with my utter disgust.

Pros: Ambience

Cons: Service

Ratings_icons Thursday Night Review - NYU Crowd on a Cruise Ship or in a Country Club

surfguido

I'm always hesitant to write a review about a place I've only been once, but just a few comments beyond the other reviews - went there on a Thursday night with a buddy - around midnight - had to lie to get past the bouncer from the short line. The picture makes it look way cooler than it is - imagine it being much lighter, the ceilings very low, and all in all, felt like a mix of being in a the cabin of a cruise ship or in some part of a country club. The crowd was attractive but very young...I would say no one appeared over 24, and generally averaging 21, so there were some fakie's in the mix. It was a good percentage of women - at least 50%, but many were with their fraternity or dorm room boyfriends. Music was fun - trash pop hip hop. Drinks seemed to be a reasonable price - all in all, won't be going back soon, but if I do and it's different, I'll be sure to update.

Pros: Music, Good Looking Crowd

Cons: Very Young Crowd, Not worth Door Drama

Went to 49 grove for my bday with my girlfriends and we had such a great time! The staff was so nice and very accommodating, we had a table in the back and it was perfect. They played awesome music, a lot of hip hop. Bottle selection was great, actually everything was! Couldn't have asked for a better experience! I would reccomend getting a table and having a party there to everyone! LOVE IT!

Had my birthday party at 49 grove this year and had an absolute blast! The decor and ambiance are amazing and the staff was great to everyone. Their prices are competitive with other nice establishments in the city and the crowd is much better than the touristy, crowded Village hang-outs. For fun almost any night of the week there is nowhere better to live it up in a great space, crowd, and environment with awesome people!

Pros: Great crowd, space, and bottle service

Cons: Cocktail list

xaviers2005

Love, love, love it! Once inside 49 Grove the dollars spent are well worth it for an entertaining and exclusive night out. On a street with "of the moment" clubs which always seem to disappoint me, it is a welcomed exception. The waitresses are hot , the drinks -delectable, and the music can get anyone up and on their feet. 49 Grove is just large enough without being too big, and the bathrooms are always clean. The service you recieve is worth every penny. I will continue to be a regular at 49 Grove for a long time to come.

Pros: ambience, service,music

Ratings_icons skip it

byebyebeautiful

49 grove is way too overrated, despite the many other negative comments I've seen posted here. Always trying to reinvent itself, 49 grove is bound to change its name and decor soon. Mainly because the place is full of wannabes who wear their "Dior" shades indoors. If that's impressive for you, go for it... But if you don't like that kind of crowd, you may want to skip it. The decor isn't even nice to begin with...carpet floors and similar "couches". The music is never that good either. All the times I've been there they played some old school rap that is almost undancable to...WHY!?!? I feel like there are many other places that can provide a much more pleasant time, so why go here?

Pros: easy to get to?

Cons: expensive drinks, ugly decor, not special at all.

Ratings_icons Some of the better looking people I've been around

mner354

Being a seasoned New York City nightlife veteran I thought I've done and seen it all and boy was I mistaken. Not only was I mesmerized by the crowd and employees, who once inside catered to our every need, but we were able to actually enjoy the music being played. Many times at these high scale celebrity saturated lounges, the music tends to take a back seat to other accomodations and Grove literally didn't miss a beat. Loved the set, the setup, and "the females." Definitely excited to go back. See you soon Grove, keep doing your thing.

Pros: Hottness all around you...

Cons: Don't be intimidated if Eva Mendez bumps into you

Amidst the ever admired NYC nightlife, stands a popular hot spot, 49 Grove. Located in the heart of the west village, between Christopher Street and 7th Ave., 49 Grove is a trendy and upscale lounge which caters to the hottest crowd in New York City. Once you get passed the velvet ropes and make your way inside, you can?t help but notice the elegant blue decor and romantic dim lights; along with plenty of deco couches and tables which leave just enough room for a comfortable dance floor. The music gratifies all guests, in the company of a resident DJ spinning the latest hits of hip hop, house and R&B, and the crowd is constantly full of energy on the dance floor. The bartenders and waitresses are gorgeous; the crowd is always stunning, what?s not to love? If you?re looking for a great night out in NYC, 49 Grove is the best place to be!

Pros: Beautiful crowd, Beautiful decor, Great service, Very Trendy, Friendly and sweet bathroom attendant, Good music

Cons: Main staircase is too steep for my stilletos

I'm what you might consider a "club connoisseur". I've been in almost every hot club or lounge in NY at least once. But i recently checked out 49 Grove and I must say the spot was one of the better places I've partied at. In my line of work i'm invited to a lot of A-list events and this place defientley had the feel of one of those exclusive nights. The service was great, the women were extra hot, and the sound system was on point. I had a great time and would highly reccomend it to anyone of age who enjoys the high life!

Ratings_icons Downtown discovery

goodonpaper

49 Grove is an upscale but comfortable space that features superior concierge type service and elegant furnishings. It is THE place to hold an event downtown if you put an emphasis on privacy and discretion. My company held a holiday function there last year and we would up booking three events this year because of the attentiveness of the staff (and also because we always have a great time!!!). The menu is varied but consistently yummy and drinks are generous and powerful. Prices are reasonable, especially when considering what you would pay at other bar/lounges for a less quality experience. Bottle service is available, of course. 49 Grove is the place is a wonderful venue when you are a grownup, but still ready to have fun.

Pros: Food, drinks, value, friendly staff, FUN atmosphere

Cons: Parking nearby is difficult to find

Ratings_icons Great Place For Events

spiderpigrules

Last night my girlfriend hosted a surprise birthday for me at 49 Grove. We were about 75 people and everyone said they loved the place and wanted to stay all night.......on a school night too!!

I was blown away at what a great job the staff did, how nice the place was and how good the food was. I was even more surprised when I saw the bill at the end of the night and was totaly not ripped off. The catering company made so much extra food that I took in lunch for my entire staff of 35 today and they all loved the food cold.

Stay away from the drinks, the bartenders play a game with each other trying to see who can get the guest drunker first. We were trashed with in an hour of the event and my head still hurts 12 hours later.

The GM, MOSS, was a total nice guy and Kristen the event planner was a foot away from me all night long making sure that I was having a good time.

Only cons were that more of my friends didn't come last night and that my GF did not hire a DJ. Even with and Ipod playing we had a blast.

Pros: Price, Service, Food, Staff

Cons: Hang Over From Hell!!!

Ratings_icons Classy Joint in West Village

antyson

I don't usually party in the West Village, but my roommate told me that 49 Grove was a good venue. The lounge rivals the big names in the Meatpacking district in terms of style and decor. The crowd was great, more laid-back but still upscale. And you won't have to deal with snobby doormen or bartenders while you're there. All in all, it's a good venue when you want to have a nice night out but not deal with the hassle of the Meatpacking district. Real classy place, I highly recommend!

Ratings_icons Hung over and fat!!

hungover

Last night I had a party for my BF at 49 Grove. The place rocked. Trust me, have your parties at 49 Grove. I've had parties from 10-300 and these guys are the best in NYC and know how to cater to their clients.

The staff made a point of getting us drunk and fat. There was so much food that we took huge doggie bags home and ate cold left overs at 4am and my fridge is full of horsdouvers.

Grove was recomended to my by a freind and when I looked at the reviews I was like this place has to be bad. To my surprise from the second I called them to the end of the event these guys rocked. Don't read the reviews below. Check the place out for your self. You will be happy.

Pros: Staff, Drinks, Parking, Food, Easy to get to / location

Cons: Co-ed bathrooms freaked out a few of the guys, to much food, drinks are to strong

Ratings_icons Spectacular Saturday

dj_razz

I admit I had reservations about 49 Grove given the reviews below, but I had a very good experience on Saturday, July 14 (and no, I don't work there). The door is a bit intimidating but we had no problems getting through with 2 girls/4 guys, no bottle service, no cover. It may help to get there early, as we were inside by 11:15, when it was fairly slow. Once inside, the decor is about what you'd expect; loungy but with plenty of room to dance once the DJ gets on the 1's and 2's with the latest hip-hop heaters. It gets crowded quickly. The drinks get stronger as you order more of them from the same bartender (surprise surprise), but be wise and stick to shots, which will take some of the hurt off your wallet ($15/mixed, $10/shot, $7/beer, $5/jello shot). The bartenders know what they're doing and are on point, regardless. Overall a good time.

Pros: Music, drinks, ample seating, clean bathrooms

Cons: Pricey

Ratings_icons avoid for reservations, wost customer service, poor managment, will bump your party for celebs.

The worst experience I had with a party reservation was with 49grove in Feb.07. I still can?t forget the horrible disappointment now in Aug. 07. I reserved space for a birthday party with guaranteed 25-30 people easily plus other people that were to make short appearances. Everything was great until I got to the bar and found that the party had been bumped off. I didn?t even get a phone call. I had to hear it from the rude bouncer, and didn?t even hear from the management. Talk about embarrassing. Lucky for me The Fat Black Pus*y Cat downtown made arrangements for me at the last minute. I owe the FBPC a debt of gratitude. I would never recommend 49grove to anybody. Also as the other review stated, they place their own positive reviews. This PLACE IS HORRIBLE.

Pros: seems appealing

Cons: everything from managment to bouncer

Ratings_icons GOOD REVIEWS ARE FORGERIES ? DON?T BELIEVE ANY OF THEM!

dekoofru

You want the straight dope on 49 Grove? The place is the worst. And that?s being kind. It should aspire to be the worst because that would be an improvement over what it is now. It would actually have to be bumped up a few pegs to reach the lofty levels of worst. But worst is in all probability beyond this place?s reach.

Never have I been to a place so atrocious. It began out front with the barbarian doorman, worsened when I nearly broke my neck trying to navigate my way down the pitch black staircase into this basement, was knocked down another notch when they fleeced me for $15 on a watered down drink (the bartender even told me that they couldn?t serve me my brand of vodka because business was bad and the owner hadn?t paid the liquor bill), failed another time when I went to the co-ed bathroom and had these perverts try to watch me on the toilet and I had to see open urinals (the whole place is an open urinal), took another nose dive when at midnight there were only four other people there and they looked like they had social studies class the next day, and ended when I had to fight with the manager about the criminal padding of my bill.

49 Grove will deservedly go under soon ? ideally before I upload this post so no other poor soul will have to suffer like I did. Never have I seen a place so grossly mismanaged and people in a service job so brazenly, outwardly and unapologetically rude. But like with all other things, what goes around comes around and what?s coming to 49 Grove is bankruptcy. I can only hope there?s a brothel somewhere in the fourth world willing to pay 10 cents on the dollar for those hideous couches and cheesy pile carpet.

And so to the staff of 49 Grove I gingerly and with all discretion say, Lower your expectations. If you still want jobs in the hospitality business, get yourself a polyester uniform and paper hat. Sonic has immediate openings at drive-through windows across the south.

Cons: Worst place ever

Ratings_icons BEST CLUB IN THE VILLAGE, NO QUESTION

jresha

49 Grove is by far the best club in the Village for a number of reasons. First, the atmosphere. The layout is excellent at 49 Grove. There is a place for everyone, whether it be at the front bar or a table in the back, or on the dance floor, you can always find a place to hang. Second, the staff is above professional and make some killer drinks. They are friendly and don't have the typical NYC club attitude. I love everyone that works there. Finally, the DJ. The music they play here is basically one rump shaking beat after another. You could be there for the entire night and not hear a bad song. That just rounds out this perfect club to make it the best club in the Village and easily one of the best clubs in NYC. It is still a hidden gem, so get to it while you can still get in without having to wait on an hour long line!!

Ratings_icons Grove is an excellent mix of class and fun.

samzclub

The drinks are mixed right. (Guys: there are some hot woman in this crowd including the bartender Cindy). The music is nice mixx of house, hip hop, and occasional 80s. I prefer Friday nights because it is not as crowded, and more local people. The security is tight so don't even think of trying a fake ID. (didn't work for a friend).

Pros: Class

Cons: crowds

Ratings_icons Best place in NYC

robinmahfuz666

My favorite place in NYC is nowhere but 49 Grove! I can easily loose myself to it whether I'm drinking vodka or beer. I can throw my own private parties anytime I want and I don?t even have to bother decorating the place because it?s already decorated with beautiful blue candles, dimmed lights, 52 inch plasma screens, huge mirrors, stylish tables, buckets, fireplaces, unique wash rooms, and Ralf Lauren style wallpapers. I can celebrate my personal birthday party in one of the three VIP sections within the crowd, separated from everyone else with customized audio sound and services. If I ever get married, I will celebrate my party in 49Grove despite whether I?m single or not because of the upscale services I will be provided.
Corporate party, holiday affairs, film premieres, photo shoots, fashion shows and birthday, engagement, wedding and anniversary fetes got nothing on what I will have in 49Grove. If you think you got what it takes, then show me your party! We will take it to the next level.

Folks if you haven?t been you don?t know what you?re missing. Along with the beautiful decor and the speak-easy environment you, have great management, a beautiful cocktail waitress and bartenders, and a security staff that is second to none. Excellent and reasonably priced drinks and half price bottles after 2am. You can?t go wrong with this place. Just get there early before they reach capacity and bring some ladies!

Pros: A-list Clients

Cons: Reaches capacity fairly quickly.
