Ratings_icons The most exciting place in the village

nightscene01

I went to 49 Grove last Saturday for my friend's birthday party and was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was another one of those lounges that NYC has anywhere you look, but it turned out to be this amazing spot with great crowd, very polite and helpful staff, and a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. Definately give this place a ten and we'll look into throwing a party in there myself.

Pros: Staff and atmosphere

Cons: Got a little crowded on Saturday

Last Thursday I went to 49 Grove because my friend Dean has a guest list and I was plesantly suprized by the rock and roll being played. Ive been to 49 Grove on a Friday for his party where they play House and Hip Hop but Thursday was everything but "pour some suger on me" GOOD ROCK AND ROLL THURSDay. Ill be back.

Pros: Friendly crowd

My girls and I went to 49 Grove a couple of weekends ago and had an absolute blast!! It was my first time and I couldn't believe how hot the crowd was. I consider myself and my crew nyc hipsters and always attend the best places, so i'm very picky. The music was amazing and the place had an all around awesome vibe. I am definately gonna stop this weekend.

Pros: crowd, atmosphere, music

Cons: none

Ratings_icons AWESOME SPOT.... Even with a blizzard!!!!

curlygrl1212

I went to 49 Grove lsat night during a blizzard. I did not have to wiat in a long line (which is a good thing because I was wearing very little!!!!). I could not belive the ammount of people that were there even with the horrible weather. Bottle service is definitly worth it. The staff is nice friendly, and attentive to your needs. Even after we had finished 2 bottles, there was not a long line at the bar. The bartenders know what they are doing and know how to handle a large group of customers (They even have a heavy pour!!!). Every bottle was worth it, and all the prices on drinks were fair. The decor is beautiful, and so is the staff and clientele. Music was a mix, which my girlfriends and I all loved. I would DEFINITLY go back again. If you have not been here you are missing out!!!!!

cohiba212

Very very nice spot, would definitely go back! The decor is sleek and modern, the staff are super attentive, and the crowd was nice looking. The owner was there checking in on things and making sure everyone was taken care of, always a nice touch. I'm happy to find a low-key, hip spot to chill downtown. Excellent overall!

Pros: modern decor, attentive service, signature cocktails

Cons: long lines for bathroom

Ratings_icons Good times at Grove

Went with a friend of mine. Loved the music, and how cool the inside looked. Had no problem's getting in cuz we acted like we were important people (but we're not). Drinks are expensive, but I don't know if that's just a new york thing.

I have been here twice, and it was two times too many .. luckily there is no cover charge, because it would be a travesty to pay for this "club" in a basement. The crowd is not very good-looking, and the music might as well be played directly from Z100. The ceilings are strangely low, which is distracting as an individual who stands at 5'11" (and 6'3" in my Louboutins). Much too crowded and the lay-out is strange .. the bathrooms are co-ed and there are only two stalls, which poses a problem when a group of girls need to use the restroom. A friend and I attempted to share a stall, only to be chased out by the bathroom attendant who thought we were using illegal substances together and threatened to call security on us ... unbelievable. The first we went, we went as guests of one of the managers, and I believe we were in a "VIP" area although I use that term loosely. We were having an okay time, utilizing the table service that came with the table. Much to my chagrin, after a few drinks, I noticed that my cocktails were becoming strangely bland. I began to pour more from the Grey Goose bottle when a girl I was sitting with pointed out that it was not vodka. I didn't believe her until I poured it directly into my mouth ... it was WATER. I kid you not. Some ingrate tried to convince me that it was "the end of the bottle" and that's why it tasted so watery ... riiiight. I bade farewell to that peasant and we promptly left in a huff. Luckily we had not wasted any of our money that night but truly, it was hard to believe. No wonder they are spending so much on advertising .. that place is a WASTE & there are sooo many better clubs in NYC. Don't waste your time !

Pros: no cover (otherwise no one would go..)

Cons: WATER instead of vodka, ambience, crowd, music .. the list goes on

Ratings_icons Thanks for having us stand in 20 degree weather for over an hour!!!

reevereech

They had us stand on line outside in a feeble attempt to make the place look busy and credible. We were told all along that there was a $15 cover and that's it...but after an hour of waiting online the idiot promoter came outside and said we will only get in if we buy a bottle. We put our money together and ultimately decided to waste our money at this place(since it was our friend's birthday and we planned on coming here), but then we were told that we could only get 3 of our friends in per bottle. We got the rest of the group to put money in for a bottle, and then we were told we would still have to wait in the cold for god knows how long. I don't understand these "posh" places in the city, I always thought a business is about treating the customer/client correctly, you know, in order to make a few bucks. Places like this should be boycotted and shouldn't be worth a second of anybody's time. BTW this supposedly exclusive place had approximately 15 underage drinkers inside that I know of (this only includes people I personally know), and the outside of the lounge looks like a ran-down 100-year old bar. Real classy...stay away from this place unless you want to get ripped off and treated like garbage.

To conclude, after not getting in we found 2 other lounges around the block which certainly gave us our money's worth.

Pros: Can't say any because I never saw the inside...but the pictures of the lounge(on the inside) make the place look OK...actually makes it look like every other place in the city

Cons: Nasty bouncer, scheming promoters, they act like they have no clue, the place doesn't look appealing

My friends and I popped some bottles the other night for my girlfriends birthday and were taken care of beautifully! we had a great time everyone on our guest list got in without any hassle at all. Only a few of the guys who came late had to wait a few minutes but said that they had no complaints because they were treated with respect and the door girl was a sweetheart.- once we all were inside we had the best time out of any nightclub we've ever been to- it was pact yet breathable... grove we love your spot! see u soon

Ratings_icons Worth The Line

altantaboytoy

I went on Saturday and had to wait in line for about 10 min. The door girl was really nice and was polite about the wait. Once inside we had a great time and forgot about the line. The place is a bit to dark and not really a dance club, but the DJ was really good... for once. He played mostly house that I don't like, but knew just when to play some Hip Hop, disco and dance... I hate 80's stuff but my GF loved it and had a blast. I highly Recomend this place and all the reviews I read before this one are BS. We had no problems at all, the drinks were normal priced and no one gave us any problems.

Pros: Nice door girl, DJ, Decore

Cons: Line at the door, Places was a bit to packed, More Hip Hop

Ratings_icons thank god they cleaned up their act!!!

luv_me_long_time

So i'm sure you've seen the scathing reviews my friends and I have written about this paticular spot. The last time I was there for the fundraiser was a disgrace to all of club kind and I had planned on NEVER stepping foot back into that place however.... this weekend my friend had pulled me out to his birthday party there and everything was suprisingly decent?... The whole package actually impressed me. Maybe they just had a bad day last time but i'm actually willing to give them another try

Pros: no longer a catastrophe

lexi_spiga

49 grove is your one stop shop for a night of extreme fun. If your looking for a night of up scale enjoyment in a lounge type setting with an a-list crowd this is the place to be and be seen.
My boss and I went with a few friends to last weeks album release party and were blown away by the elegant interrior and staff of hotties. The lounge/clubs decor is reason enough to go but then mix that with an incredible staff that looks like they are straight off of runways and a crowd of the most beautiful socialites and party goers around, its really a complete package.

Pros: staff, hotties, drinks

Cons: the club closes at 4... i wish i could've stayed all day

I went there on Friday because we had dinner around the corner at Sushi Samba and the Manger recomended 49 Grove to us. There was no real line. We stood outside of about 30 seconds for the doorman to come upstairs and let us in. The place is small and dark, but cozzy and nice place to get a drink before going to the bigger clubs on 27th street. I looked at all the review this morning posted below and most of them are full of BS. We had no probles and the staff was nice to us.

Pros: Cozzy, Good Mix OF Music, Close to 7th ave Sushi Samba

Cons: To Small, To Dark, No One Knows About This Place

49 Grove was exquisite!- I loved the lounge feel and intimate trendy ambiance as well as its amazing staff. My friends and I had been hearing about this spot for some time now through other high end promoters and socialites but never really gave it a try because our weekends were always filled with parties at bigger venues or the hamptons, However this week we gave it a try. It instantly became our new favorite spot and will definatly attend their weekly parties.

Ratings_icons this place is disgusting!!!!

splashkpl

i agree with previous reviewers in that they have fake lines outside. bouncers make no shame in trying to get people to buy bottles by holding them outside. i went outside to get my sister and the boucner says, " you see this list? you aren't buying bottles so shes not coming in." whats up with that??? this is just a cheap basement someone tried to turn in to a club. the music is ok but the service and mgmt is really bad. the crowd as mixed and ok. the celings are super low and the place is pretty small.

Pros: music is ok

Cons: everything else

Pros: music, drinks, service

Cons: Bathroom was a little crowded

Ratings_icons This place is managed by pathetic jokes

jonny05

49 Grove is a one of the few places in New York that you go to and wish that you had never been. It is so depressing that places like this exist - awful management who will keep you in line and refuse to acknowledge your existence despite the fact that they are well aware that you are there for a fundraiser happening downstairs. It is the classic case of pathetic men at the door who use this place as their last chance at testosterone-exhibiting of the week before they take the path train back to mom's house in Jersey and fall asleep in front of wifeswap with a mouth half-full of cheetos. In a wierd way, I feel bad enough for the man who manage this bar that I am actually kind of happy that there is still a place for them in the world.

Pros: the have a bathroom and running water

Cons: the people who work there are still living

james888

We were there for a fundraiser, and had to deal with obnoxious waitstaff (read: jersey bouncers) for an hour. Then, we went downstairs to the bar, where the drinks were overpriced, and there was actually no reason why they didn't let us in - IT WAS EMPTY.

Plan to go here if you want a night filled with frustration.

The bouncers and doormen here should take cyanide pills. There was a 60 year old guy with a power trip. He had a body like a beanbag. There was a younger guy who thought he was really cool. He was wearing a wallet chain like he was 13 years old. Good work guys. Your bar stinks.

I went to this place with a party of 15, They over charged us at the end of the night. They first said bottles were 250 but when the check came they charged us 300 for each bottle. They also added one extra bottle that we never ordered and would not let us leave until we paid the full amount. The vip area sux and is crowded there is no security for vip and everybody would be in your vip area. I would never go to this place agai. Very dark and was kinda like a basement with some couches. DONT EVER GO HERE. THIS PLACE SUX AND IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY BECAUSE THEY WILL RIP U OFF. ALSO SHOTS AT THE BAR WERE $10 EACH.

Ratings_icons Go stand in a fake line somewhere else

ebiddle1

Went this past Friday. The crowd was so-so and the front room was empty, so why the fake nyc line outside? At 2:00am we invited two friends to meet us. They weren't on a list, but there was PLENTY of room. Attempting to be polite, I notified the "doorgirl" that we had friends stopping by. She rudely informed me that entry depended on "how they looked" and "was at HER discretion." After harassing them for 10 mins and refusing their entry saying "I just CAN'T let two guys inside. I just CAN'T do it." they became fed up. Later, my friend who WAS on a list received identical treatment. I can't stand people who work at bars who think they are superior to the paying clientele inside with REAL jobs. Words to the Wanabee-Model Doorgirl: Your power-trip was pathetic. Good luck in the real world, honey! You'll be needing it.

Pros: Trendy

Cons: Rude staff, overpriced drinks, bad crowd

Ratings_icons Thanks for ruining my birthday 49 grove

pjwags2001

I work for a tv channel and agreed to have my bday party here since the mgmt was interested in starting a relationship with us. As the place filled up- I found out that guys were not let in without a girl. I had one of guy outside & I was told "no guys" "I don't care if he's on the list" "he's not getting in without more girls" "he needs to buy a bottle". I complained to the bouncers and they treated me like I was nothing- they spoke to some of my friends like they were the lowest people on earth. It made me sick & I took my friends and left! So be warned- if you have your party there and think your guest list means that your friends can come in and party with you- you are stongly mistaken. Thanks for ruining my birthday 49 Grove....

Cons: crowded, guys not let in, guest list sucks

Ratings_icons Wasted Potential

Although this place has a beautiful ambiance, the crowd, the drinks, the service and doorman make the experience highly unacceptable. After prearranging my party I was frustrated and extremely annoyed that the doorman would not let people on my guestlist inside. They were told that they could not allow guys in, even though they were accompanied by 4 girls, without buying additional bottles. If you are not buying a table, do not expect to get in. If you do feel the need to satifsy your curiosity pitch a tent outside at 9pm and wait it out with the b&t tunnel crowd.

Over December I visited 49 Grove to take in the "high end" atmosphere and good crowd...but most importantly to come flirt w.that GORGEOUS doorman w. the long dark hair dressed in sheek clothing... I went there last Friday and he wasnt there then Saturday he wasnt there either?! I dunno what happened but he provided a look of elegance and presence....If you read this doorman please let me know where you are now..cause me and my girls only came there for you.. :) ~californiasfinest~

My friends and I reserved a table here for New Years and what a joke. After shelling out $1,300 for a table we were introduced to our waitress who didn't stop back a single time during the evening! The package was to include hors d'ourves throughout the evening which never arrived. Around 2am one of the kitchen staff did manage to provide a plate of stale chips and salsa. The service is horrible and the space is so so. Don't waste your time or your money.

Knew nothing about the place before going, other than the pictures on their website looked great. I actually had been once before when it was Halo but didn't immediately recognize it. I called ahead to reserve a bottle service table for a group of ten friends. No problem at the door when we arrived (11:30/12 on a Saturday), polite and efficient bouncer who immediately set us up with a hostess. They cleared our table quickly and in no time we were on our way. Bottle waitress was really attractive, as were most female employees. Super friendly and down to party as well. The rest of the crowd wasn't trashy, snobby, or overly young/old...well-dressed attractive patrons looking to get sauced and have a good time (and dance). I'd definitely go back for a splurge. I'm not down with star sightings but for people who are, Adrian Grenier was there that night.

Pros: Friendly staff, Attractive crowd, Attractive venue

Cons: Pricey, Unisex bathrooms

I went on a Saturday night...got there around 1am.

I liked the atmosphere and I looooooved the music. However, it was WAY too crowded. I couldn't even move. It was HORRIBLE. I had to go into the smokers lounge for air (as odd as that sounds). If you don't like to be pushed and shoved...then you may not want to visit this establishment.

WARNING: The female bartender was horrible..and a little rude...and the drinks were totally overpriced. Here's an example of how to order drinks at this place: "I'd like a Grey Goose with a splash of cranberry". Don't ask for a Grey Goose and Cranberry or you'll get jipped.

Despite those negatives...it's an overall kewl spot..and I recommend it.

Pros: Great Music, Kewl Atmosphere, Nice lounge area

Cons: Horrible drinks, Drinks too pricey, Too crowded
