The food and the atmosphere was top of the line but the servers were disrespectful and rude. We went with a group of ten successful young entrepreneurs that has a refined interest in food. We felt our waiter was the rudest person we ever encounter at a restaurant. It seems like if he was trying to sell the menu to us like a ??Bad Car Salesman?, he cut us off when we wanted to place our orders, and talk to us as if we were irrelevant. We even waited over 30 minutes to receive our drinks, in which they forgot and we had to acquire someone else to bring it. And they treated us as if we had insignificant funds to pay for our meals. The waiter & servers always brought up the topic of price like as if I could not see that the glass of Merlot that I desired was not $22. Plus, at night it gets very noisy. I would never go back there!

First of all our waiter was rude and pushy. He almost chastised my friend for ordering the same thing as me because he insisted that we all order different items from the menu. The decor is more tacky than chic to me, the food had absolutely NO flavor unless you take into consideration the one flavor of disgusting incorporated in the chicken satay and it's nasty sauce. Lastly, it was very expensive for nothing special. I would choose Nobu or Tao over Mr Chow any day. In fact I would choose the corner store chinese place by my house for 8 bucks over this place any day.

Don't go to this crappy place.

I'm still kind of speechless. Mr. Chow's in Tribeca is... it's... I don't really have words for it.

Wait. Yes I do. Foul. Inedible. A joke. Rancid. A cosmic ripoff.

Are you kidding me?

This place is designed - it actually REVELS in - ripping off tourists and tasteless human beings. From the moment they tricked us into ordering $10 bottles of bottled water to the last disgusting bites of "complimentary" cake for desert, Mr. Chow's Tribeca was nauseating.

I don't want to relive the food by telling you what we ordered. Every single item was vile. Embarrassingly grotesque. Every single item tasted, looked, smelled, and FELT awful.

I don't have much more to add. In these times, I would think people would have little desire to throw their money away on an "experience" like this. Because this "experience" is about disgusting food and fake "high end" service designed only to sell sell sell you.

If you enjoy eating "food" cooked by people who are laughing at your complete lack of taste, and being served by waitstaff who consider you a walking wallet and are smirking at you for just being there, then by all means, eat at Mr. Chow's.

Otherwise, PLEASE avoid Mr. Chow's Tribeca, and have an appealing, human and decent diniing experience in a place that actually cares.

I came for restaurant week, because I heard good things and it looked like such a trendy restaurant. The food was OK, not the best. For about 1/10th the price you can get portions 3 or 4 times the size that tastes a lot better in Chinatown.

I love the interior of this place--it is sleek, modern, elegant, and thoughtful. The waitstaff, too, is incredibly (sometimes overly) friendly and solicitous. In fact, there are so many people assigned to service each table that it almost got confusing. The head waiter was eager to offer recommendations and favorites, they left no detail out, and were generally great. I thought the mid-evening display preparation of their house noodles was rather impressive of a show to put on, if a little distracting for a romantic dinner.

The food, however, was a different story. It was not bad, granted, but the huge disparity between its quality and its price made me raise my eyebrows on occasion. The appetizers were very good. I strongly recommend the sea-scallop, cooked to perfection and served on its shell in a nicely sour sauce. The buffalo was tender but really not spectacular. The duck was BAD--it tasted like leftover food from yesterday's party, reheated and recrisped. Generally, I would have given it five stars if I was reviewing the food of a solid, good Chinese take-out place, but certainly not a place where a dinner for two can run close to $300. My advice--if you want amazing food for less money, walk one block south on Hudson and treat yourself to a nice dinner at Nobu, it is certainly much better and worth the price.

Just had to comment how wonderful the restaurant is.
My friends and I were just at Mr.Chow for dinner. Even though they had many people there all eager to get some of the renown Mr.Chow cuisine, the service was great. All people seemed to be satisfied, as much as I was. The restaurant in general is very aesthetically pleasant. But with the physical beauty comes inner beauty. The servers were all to-the-point. They gave us what we needed as soon as we asked. The chicken satay was good as usual, definitely check it out. All the food was amazing, even though the menu was prix fixed for a special Valentines night. <333 Along with the food was the vibrant dynamic of the place. The music suited well. Mr. Chow is definitely the place to go. Once you go, you will want to go back for every meal. CHECK IT OUT!

My family and I went to Mr.Chow Tribeca for Valentines Day. The dinner-- Amazing. Especially the lobster noodle, which left everyone speechless. The service was great as usual; all very welcoming and hospitable. I'm planning on going back sometime soon. Mr. Chow remains always the same: the food, the serivice, the energy, the environment, the people, and what more can you expect! I encourage all of you to visit sometime soon.

Went to Mr.Chow in Tribeca last night for the first time ( have been to most other locations ) and I it was excellent. The room is glam and beautiful , the service top notch , and the food very good. It is an "experience" and a place to be seen, which you don't find often in NYC. Dress up , order a glass of champs and enjoy !

I went there for dinner last night with a group of friends and all I can say is WOW! Best Peking Duck I have ever had! The staff and the ambiance was extremely pleasant . I don't know how anyone could complain about the service? The restaurant was full and they had a wall of waiters and bus boys always ready to take a plate or get your drinks. This restaurant exceeded my expectations! Do yourself a favor and try this place at least once! Trust me once you try it, you'll be back for more !

I experienced this wonderful restaurant last saturday. Expecting alot from all the reviews and hype, all my expectations were met and more. The atmostphere and service was the best I have experienced. The meal was truly amazing. My waiter served me a peking duck while my guest had Ma Mignon. Very unique and delicious. Everybody around us truly enjoyed their evening. I recommend everybody to try this restaurant once in their life. Will not regret it.

I dined here Friday night and had a truly enjoyable experience! The service was top notch and the food was so yummy! We let the waiter decide what to bring us to eat and he did a fabulous job. The music was loud but good...creating a fun and hip atmosphere. If you are looking for a quiet dinner this isn't the place for you, but if you are looking for a good time with really good food this is it!

I was here this past saturday, I had the best time ever. They really made me reconsider my opinion of the service in New York City. They really looked after my wife and friends. The food came out promptly and it was very good. I recommend this place and if you really consider other people's review you should take mine into consideration. Remember only the customers that really appreciate good food and service would not waste their time to write a bad review.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! it serves the worst food I have ever had!!! And I honestly never complain about food (go back to Mr. Chow uptown - which has good food!!). I was at Mr. Chow downtown during the Tribeca film festival, and it was 70% empty (although you think it would be packed!). After dinner I knew why!!!!
For main course we chose chicken, peking duck, some beef - it was very dry, chewy and totally salty. It tasted like the worst warmed up take out food!! The shrimps we sent back immediately - it was definitely some cheap shrimps out of the freezer without any taste to it. Without any drinks, we ended up paying $150 - no problem for a very nice dinner - but we honestly think Mr. Chow doesn't have a kitchen, but orders in take out from another place and warms it up in a microwave. I cannot believe how some people on citysearch can rate this place even as 'average'. Even the next day I felt nauseous. I think the restaurant should close ASAP in order not to make more people sick!

I stopped at Mr. Chow for a drink after enjoying a fantastic meal at Nobu, just down the street. However, my girlfriend and I were chased away from the bar by the blond haired hostess who told us of the restaurant's policy of not serving drinks to those who did not have dinner reservations. In the end, the $50 I was going to spend on two glasses of wine stayed in my pocket. I've dined at many of the finest restaurants in the city and have never been so denigrated. I've never heard of such a policy, especially on a night when the bar was so empty. I won't be returning to this place and I'd advise you to stay away, as well. Instead, go to Nobu where snobby attitudes are checked at the door. Good luck with your overpriced egg rolls Mr. Chow.

I have been going to Mr.Chow for the past 6 years. Since they opened Tribeca I mostly go to this location since I live in Tribeca. I have read these reviews and came to conclusion that those people that wrote these negative reviews are either jealous of Mr. Chow success or have no better things to do . The restaurant is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the city. The stuff is very friendly and polite. The Food is Magnificent. The clientele is one of a kind. The ambiance is great. I can go on and on.................. So loosen up and stop nagging !!! Once you step foot at MR.CHOW ............. Just sit back and have a great time !!!! I guarantee you you will have a BLAST !!!

My husband took me here for our 8th year wedding anniversary dinner back in September and it was excellent!! We went during the week so it wasn't crowded at all. We sat outside and had like 5 waiters tending to us. The wait staff are European transplants who pretty much live in Queens. My husband was speaking Italian to one of them which leads me to the next point... The waitstaff lingered a little bit too much and were a bit too talkative --hello it's an anniversary dinner can't you tell but the bottle of Veuve? So that was a little annoying. Trying to enjoy a nice romantic night dining al fresco in NYC with the man I love and then having to be chit chatty with the waitstaff. Anyway they were kind and they did select the most delicious meal for us. The asked us a few questions getting a feel for what we like and then they brought corses --all of them excellent. I think the Mr. Chow on the eat side first ave is more classy than the Tribecca location but I did enjoy myself at both locations and the food was wonderful. I would suggest going but I would absoluetly go on a weeknight to avoid the weekend "rookie" crowd. I could see how service would be spotty on the weekends. And if celebrity sightings do anything for ya (I love em) we saw Jeniffer Connoly and Tea Leoney and David Duchovony the night we went.

Our waiter was just short of of a used car saleman. Reciting what he had been instructed to say at the staff meeting. Very aggressive service, usually the crowd is B&T, but this time the staff was B&T. Worst tasting food ever, even 66 is better than this. Poor Service, Poor Food, and the bathroom was a mess.

Okay so everyone's tastes differ and you can have a good or bad experience at almost any restaurant. BUUUUUT you should at least KNOW what you are getting charged for! I went to MR. Chow's tonight and our group did a tasting menu. We asked how much it was the waiter said 64 a person. At the end our bill was wayyyy too much. We asked why our bill was so high. Well we got charged $15 extra for a plate of fish! No one ever told us it was extra money, or that it wasn't included in the total tasting menu! Their response was that they didn't want to discuss money because they thought it would be in poor taste. They also said that it is standard policy for them! They always do it! I'd also like to add that the food is definitely not that good especially for how much they charge you there. Don't go to this place. The food is not that good, the prices are insane, they charge you for food you don't even know you are being charged for, and the interior is not even done that well. DON"T GO!

DON"T GO!

Pros: NONE

Cons: EVERYTHING

Food was as good as ever at this groovy new spot. Host & Hostess were fabulous and gave us a great table. Service was top notch. Even getting a reservation was a breeze. Not sure what all the turmoil was about but perhaps folks have not tried the original. On the whole, I found it to be the same food without that cafeteria lighting that they have at the 57th street location. Maybe it helps to be a perennial customer but it seemed to me that any kinks encountered by others had be ironed out in time for a great evening. Don't miss the Chicken Satay, Filet, Quail Seaweed. The wine selection was also good & reasonable. The waiter suggested the prix fixe for us without prompting - so while pricey, not out of this world. Loved it!

I seriously think the STAFF AT THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE RE-TRAINED. A friend and I went here at about 11pm..they told us the kitchen was closing..when we asked to sit down at the bar for wine only and some appetizers..they said no way..that their bar was only for waiting customers only..meanwhile we saw people who were not waiting for a table drinking it up...when we went to complain to the manager...he had a rude attitude and said the same thing...by the way the kitchen probably wasn't even closing until 12am..Needless to say I will rather go spend $400 on dinner somewhere else wirh better service...I have been to really expensive restaurants and they always accomodate me...(they should if you are willing to spend $400 on dinner) if the owner of this restaurant saw how the staff was acting he would fire ALL of them. By the way the place was almost empty...Maybe it's to do with the service and FOOD...

If you like having your plate taken away while in mid-bite, then this is the place for you! Even just-emptied glasses that have barely touched the table are whisked away at a constamt busy rhythm that should be reserved for the kitchen. The crowd of waiters is claustrophobic and you cannot tell who to ask to slow it down. A different waiter asks the same question and even then they did not get it right - insisting we ordered bottled water when we ordered tap. Save yourself several hundred dollars and go elsewhere. When you feel like eating again an hour later (portions are small) at least you won't feel as regretful about ordering take-out.

Pros: fabulous dining room

Cons: too many hands at the table leave the diner feelin

While I have dined at Mr Chow Uptown numerous times, Mr. Chow downtown seriously pales in comparison. Dinner for two with a few glasses of wine - upwards of $400. I have a litany of complaints -- being over-charged for wine that I didn't order, shady waiters, so-so food that arrived at the table luke warm, main course portion sizes barely large enough to be appetizer sizes, lack of fabulosity that Mr. Chow Uptown exude -- I could go on. Dont waste your time -- it's awful.
