Caters to my sweet tooth

by Dana K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,578

This little shop is a great find. Not only do they have all sort of goodies, they also have a knowledgeable staff. Best of all, they aren't too far from the Lincoln Tunnel for those across the river!

mediocre!

by karina87

I was excited to try the place out, but it was not all that great. The store is cute, but there was nothing special about any of the desserts. we tried truffles, pinenut custard cups and some orange mousse. they were ok, but super tiny. it was difficult to make out the taste. i wouldn't go there again.

Really great find!

by Emoesque23

I saw the positive reviews on this site and decided to check it out. I'm a baking and pastry student currently. I had the goat cheese panna cotta with orange jewel gelee, mango sorbet, and unsweetened iced green tea. All three were really delicious. The iced tea was was freshly brewed and really strong (which I enjoy). The goat cheese panna cotta was tangy and very creamy. The mango sorbet was so creamy with a vibrant ripe mango flavor. The one thing that I was a bit surprised at when I walked in was that all the desserts are very small. The prices are very reasonable and the man behind the counter was very sweet and so helpful! The bakery also has a gift shop. There are only three tables so, seating is limited.

Pros: Great iced tea, vibrant flavor combinations, great service!

Cons: limited seating

Nobody better at what they do!

by mastodonfarm

Sure the shop is cute. Yes, the staff is friendly and helpful. So what, I don't care! When treats are THIS tasty, I'd settle for nasty staff in a dumpy store. (After all, poor help and dirty shops seem to be a typical NYC experience. Not here!) Don't ask me to name a favorite treat, because it's impossible to do so. The yumballs, the parfaits, the bread pudding, the hot cocoa (with or without marshmallows!), the cookies - all insanely delicious. You want me to name a favorite? Fine, it's a toss-up between any of the truffles and the brownies. I'll say it again - insanely delicious! Best of all, they could easily charge 50% more than what they do on most of their treats. (Don't tell them though...)
The shop is also filled with cute little gifty type things, though, I'm a guy, what do I know? I don't go there for the aprons, the hostess journals, the baby gifts, the books, or the greeting cards. I don't even go there for glimpses of the cute owner. It's simply all about the treats. Highly recommended!

Pros: yumminess

Cons: too far west ?

Unbelievably Good!

by ghspiva

When I was visiting NYC yesterday, the salesperson in La Cafetiere (a home decor store in the next block south -- also well worth visiting) suggested that my sister and I check out Three Tarts after we left. I found Three Tarts to be a very pretty little shop and decided to buy a couple of mini bread puddings (just $0.75 each) and two Crunchy Almond Meringue cookies ($0.60 each). When I actually bit into these items later in the day, I was blown away by how fantastic they tasted, as well as the utter perfection of each item's crunchy-chewiness. Wow!

Pros: Excellent products, reasonable prices, lovely presentation, fine customer service

Cons: Wish shop were a little roomier

Very original place

by vitcor1965

I found Three Tarts a new idea of store in the Chelsea area, which represents a great combination of sweeties and gifts. Its major fetaure is that the quality of both categories of products is very high.... mmmhhhh, delicious truffles!!! and also very original ideas on gifts. Food is made by the owners of
the store, and they are delicious and very kind to illustrate you the details of everything available. So, don't miss it, just go and try!!!!

Fun and original gifts; most original sweets

by marion

Three Tarts sells the most original and marvelous sweets. Our favorites: we often bring their mini tarts and "dainties" to friends' houses as dessert and serve them at home all the time. The lemon curd tart is exceptionally lemony and better than any lemon anything
I've ever had anywhere. The passion fruit "dainty" is addictive, not for sweetness but for the complex taste and creaminess. I wish I could make them at home but never could! Their truffles are are very good and very interesting. I've also bought a lot of presents for friends at Three Tarts. It's very hard to be in the area and not drop in! Incidentally, I'm 67 years old, have a sweet tooth, and have lived in Paris and Vienna so I've a basis of comparison. This is the first review I've done.

Pros: Friendly/professional/patient staff

Cons: Parking difficult

So much to choose from!

by nycslp

The minute you enter 3 Tarts you know you've entered a taste of heaven! The gifts and treat combination can't be beat! You can stop in for a cookie or take away treats for your friends and families. Don't want to have to bake for those parties you are invited to? Bring some fresh tarts and treats in their awesome packaging! I have given holiday gifts to employees as well and have gotten great feedback from them! I enjoy the wine and biscotti combination! OH and the gifts! 3 Tarts has the unique ability to find gifts for all ages that one would not find in any old store! The staff is friendly and helpful! GO TO 3 TARTS! You will not regret!

Pros: food, service, staff

Cons: small area to sit and enjoy

Great indulgences

by leecam

I love their ice cream sandwiches - all made right there in the store. They also have delicious parfaits and bread pudding, which you buy with the glass. They make great gifts (but they have to stay refrigerated, which is a problem in the summer). But I've bought dozens of their cookies for affordable office gifts around the holidays, and I'll probably do it again this year!

Pros: Great food and unique gifts

Cons: Gifts can sometimes be expensive

Best pastries and desserts in the City!

by asobel

Simply the best pastries and desserts in the City. I live in San Francisco but visit NY several times a year and it is the only place that I HAVE to go to everytime- and there is nothing that good in SF! People are warm and friendly.

Pros: food, service

Cons: None

Great gifts, sweet treats!

by hstea

A great combination of gifts and treats, the perfect stop on the way to dinner parties, birthday celebrations or even baby showers. Three Tarts is best known for their sophisticated sweets, but check out their whimsical gift selection for stuff you don't normally see in Chelsea. The staff is really friendly and provides great service, another type of "treat" for this part of town.

Pros: friendly staff, great gifts

Cons: zero

Best desserts in NYC

by wjean

Three Tarts is one of a kind. From their panna cotta "jewels" to their uniquely delicious parfaits and their exceptional truffles, Three Tarts should be a regular stop for all your gift-giving needs. The pastry chefs creatively invent desserts that are both beautiful and delicious (many places only manage one or the other!), and the shop sells gift items that you will not find anywhere else. You will no doubt be tempted to buy a few things for yourself as well. You will not find a friendlier, more helpful staff than those at Three Tarts.

Pros: parking is actually pretty easy over there! Incredibly friendly service!

Chelsea just got a bit SWEETER

by islesfan72

Great addition to the neighborhood. Cozy sweets shop which will leave your taste buds screaming for more. Stop in to pick something up as a gift or to treat yourself to one of the many delicious treats. The Truffles are absolutely out of this world, and the ginger snaps will make your tongue want to dance.

Confession of Passion-fruit Marshmallow Fiend

by joeyfivecents

In our choco-centric society, it would be easy to single out the truffles from Three Tarts, and they are very good. But try the passion fruit marshmallow. People, please, the passion fruit marshmallow is mind-boggling. I tried other marshamallows at Three Tarts, and I can testify to the excellence of the vanilla and the raspberry, but still--seriously--the passion fruit marshmallow is all kinds of crazy good. I live in Seattle, so I found Three Tarts during a visit in late '06, and I can't have the passion fruit marshamallow all the time. Count your blessings, people of Gotham.

Three Cheers for Three Tarts

by lindakp

Treat yourself or your friends to the sweet and savory surprises that are offered at this unique boutique. The pastries and other edible gifts are worth the calories. I especially love what the talented pastry chefs do with marshmallow during holidays (Valentine's, Easter, Halloween, Christmas, etc). Three Tarts has treats you know will be there, supplemented with frequently updated specials.

Three Tarts: Five Stars*

by otherlady

You like it sweet, but not too? Then Three Tarts is for you. No cupcakes here; and why should there be, for crying out loud. The sweets and savories here are thoughtfully created and beautifully presented. I luff the truffles, melt over the marshmallows, and can only dream about the sea salt and black pepper biscotti, so eat some for me, can you? * (out of five, silly)

Pros: Remember: Call in advance for custom or bulk orders.

Look No Further For Amazing Party/Wedding Favors!

by xtiandc

For our wedding last fall, my wife and I wanted to offer something unique and memorable for favors. We lucked into discovering Three Tarts on a recent trip to NYC and knew we had found the answer moments after sinking our teeth into their *amazing* truffles! It was difficult to select a flavor, but we opted for Earl Grey and Rosemary (though we also loved the Lavender and Green Tea). The team at Three Tarts were absolutely exceptional on every level; they were a joy to work with and took great care with every needed detail. The truffles arrived beautifully packaged and tasted as great the night of our wedding as they did that day in their lovely storefront. Our friends are still talking about those amazing truffles! If you have a special occasion coming up, don't hesitate to call on the Tarts! Highly, highly recommended!

Satisfies your sweet tooth and your wallet

by scanniec

If you're looking for something sweet in the city, look no further than this little bakery/gift shop in Chelsea. They have something for everyone, whether you are a chocolate freak or a fruit fanatic (like me). I highly recommended the gourmet marshmallows (i never thought i'd use those 2 words together!). My wife, the chocolate lover, seriously enjoys the chocolate espresso mini-tarts. They have corporate gifts as well and they are willing (and able) to ship their products across the country (like, to Virginia, for example). Their prices are also incredibly reasonable (to the point i wonder how they turn a profit).

All in all, if you have a sweet tooth, check out Three Tarts. You'll be glad you did.

Pros: The sweets, of course

Delightful Sweats and Treats

by suzrey

My husband and I were so happy to find this delightful little gem of a shop on our recent visit to New York City. Three Tarts offers an array of choices that will suit a wide range of tastes. A few of my favorites were the dainty flavored marshmallows and the biscotti, but the shop offers choices for the chocolate lover and the fruit lover alike. We also had success finding great gifts to take home to the family such as the caramel cashew brittle that the shop bakes and packages in a classy gift bag and the whimsical, jewel-toned journal in which my daughter hasn't stopped writing since we gave it to her. We will definitely make Three Tarts one of our first stops next time we visit New York City.

Just say YES.

by ehbcvle

In a word ... divine. You are truly missing a gem in NYC if you don't frequent Three Tarts. Inventive and diverse, this is no ordinary sweets shop. Offer to bring dessert to your next dinner party, bring treats to the office, pick up a sweet sampler for a romantic dinner for two, or stop by on your way home from work for some beats-stress-sugar (there's SO much flavor in a single bite, you won't even feel guilty). Just try it; you'll be back.

Best treats in NYC

by bikerbilly

All the little desserts here are amazing. There are so many different things to choose from. Its easy to find something for even the pickiest person. I especially love the little chocolates and they might have the best brownies around, even better than the competition down in the nearby market. Perfect gift ideas too.
