I rarely comment on sites such as this and yelp but after a recent visit to this salon I felt the need to say something. I have been getting manicures and pedicures in NYC weekly (sometimes biweekly) for the last 10 years. I have never

IIm surprised there are not more reviews about this nail salon - it's actually quite good. I go because it is right near my hair salon (Miwa-Alex) and very convenient. The owner seems to be organized and friendly the girls are

Where to start? This was the worst manicure I have ever had in NYC. The list can go on and on but I will just post the high points. The manicure took all of 10 minutes. The PREGNANT and SICK stylist decided to do certain parts of my nails and skip others. I'm 95% sure the tools were not cleaned before they were used on me. She didn't cut my nails round or square, just randomly jagged. There was no massage, no lotion...nothing. I swear (I am not making this up) at one point towards the end of this disgusting 10 minute process, she used her own nails, rather than a tool, to pick off part of my cuticle. I was absolutely mortified and disgusted by this place and felt like I had to take a shower after I left. There disgusting staff in the place didn't even post their required NY state license. I would not recommend this place to my enemy. Also, I have lived in NYC for a long time and any legitimate cosmetic establishment takes a credit card regardless of amount...this place, of course, as I tried to pay said: "it is twenty dolla minimum...you go to ATM fo cash if need." PLEASE do not go here, you will really regret it. For what its worth, there were two other patrons in this filth whole, and both were complaining about the terrible service they were receiving. I can't imagine this place will last long.

Pros: None

Cons: Dirty, Unprofessional, Terrible Service

The Polaris Nail & Spa salon was certainly neat and tidy and the women there friendly, but the sloppiness of the work in my polish change was a bit too much. If you're in business to do nails, I expect the polish to be on my nails, not my fingers. I had to ask repeatedly for the girl who polished me to clean up her mistakes. I wouldn't go back.

Happened to be in the neighborhood with some friends looking for a mani-pedi and came upon Polaris.
The staff were friendly and helpful - they seemed to be enjoying their day also. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing and the facilities feel new, very open and very clean. There is nice wallpaper and a soothing fishtank set into the wall. It doesn't feel as though they are cramming as many stations as they can into the space. This is not one of those "thousands of feet have been here before me" feeling places that are ubiquitous in Manhattan. I live in the west village but will certainly come here again. Its been 10 days and tonight I will remove my manicure which held up beautifully. Very reasonable prices too!
