EVERYONE READ THIS - ROACH IN FOOD!!!

Check out the dept of health inspection report - in sept 09 they had a score of 59 which means they needed to be inspected!

I went here on 5/19/2010 and was served a surprising item in my dish a gigantic cockroach! My girlfriend made a joke that it looked like a roach was in my food and I insisted it was just a bean, only to find when i stirred the dish that a humongous cockroach turned upside down and greeted me with its legs. I was in complete shock, jumped up after a few seconds the cooks came over and were like "oh f*&+!". We ran out of there mortified. I had some dish with eggplant that came in a stone iron pot and was boiling when it arrived.

Pros: DID NOT EAT THE ROACH INFESTED FOOD

Cons: ROACHES!

After being an avid hummus eater and eyeing this place around town, I finally decided to take my fiancee on a date and try this place out. What did I discover? That there is a better tasting and grander variety of hummus in the little shabby supermarket around the corner of my apartment. When we got there the host indicated that they were pretty packed and then almost automatically took us to a free table (WTF?). Little did we know that pretty packed meant that it took about 30 minutes for the waiter to even notice we were there (hello! there are only about 15 tables in this small place and at least 3 servers). AND there were at least 2 tables empty and they still kept turning people back at the door (lucky them). After the waiter brought us the miniscule menu and we finally ordered 1 out of the 4 almost identical varieties of hummus, we had to risk our health and eat with incredibly dirty silverware and glasses. What the hell is wrong with this place? HEALTH CODES ANYONE? After asking the waiter if they take credit cards and receiving a thumbs up (remember she knows what we ate and the plate was still on the table), when we are finally about to leave she tells us: "Oh, sorry. No credit cards for orders under $10." THAT'S IS WHY WE ASKED YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE!! Phew...finally out the door and definitely headed towards Crumbs Bake Shop next door who's awesome cupcakes take the bitterness of this nasty place away.

They know how to make hummus here - the best I ever had. The menu and the food is simple and the service is outstanding - friendly and fast. There are two other locations and I've eaten there, too. They are all good...very consistent and soo reasonable.

This place gets the huge thumbs down. While all servers are young & friendly, that's the sole attribute of this place. The hummus is very bland. The last time I tried it they didn't add paprika or olive oil. This time they did, but it enhanced the flavor ever so slightly. Admittedly, i have been there several times, as a devout fan of hummous, hoping they'd eventually get it right, but no, they haven't. About 3/4 of the times I've been there they've botched my order. They give me the wrong type of pita, no pita, or no tahini, or no olives/pickles, or no hot sauce. Also, I am baffled by the fact that I order the same thing ea time and get charged a different amt ea time. The most recent visit I was charged $13+ for hummous, apparently b/c I requested some tahini on the side. I am obviously a glutton for punishment. This time I can say with certainly I won't go back. My Israeli friend agrees with me on the blandness of the hummous. Lest I forget, service is excruciatingly slow considering you are ordering hummous and salads.

Pros: Friendly servers, just really slow

Cons: Service, value, taste

Last semester I was taking a course at Fordham Law School and each week looked for a different ethnic restaurant in which to have lunch. My sister-in-law recommended Hummus Place. It's a small space but that makes no difference. The Israeli food is terrific and inexpensive and you leave happy, knowing you've gotten your money's worth.

We love this place for brunch. Great salad, good falafel, delicious tea, but we come for the hummus, which is better than homemade. Fun to bring out-of-towners for something different.

Pros: Delicious! Something different and healthy (I think)

Cons: No outdoor eating area
