I went there for my birthday 2 weeks ago and I have to say I had a great time. I called that week and they offered me and open bar or drink special. Some of my friends did a 2 hour open bar and some people did cash bar. For cash bar

I went to TRAFFIC last night with my best friend it was an amazing place, I liked the vibe--but the bartender was horrible, she didn't know how to make a lot of drinks, and perceeded to give us a lecture because we didnt tip her over 15%

Ok so I think the angry girl's post is testament to the type of customer she is. (That's very rude to comment on someone's acne situation.)\r

I'm a frequent customer of Traffic for a few reasons. I am always received well by the staff.

I went to Traffic last week and it was amazing!! The bartenders were friendly, the drinks were strong, and the prices were very reasonable. They even had an open bar special when the traffic light went green!! Great place, thumbs up.

The place could be good... I had high expectations, but I was not happy at all after having a party there. One month before the party I went there, talked to the manager and checked the space. Seemed great for a big party. So I invited 120 people but when I got thete 1/3 of the place was reserved for another party!!!!! I could not believe it! After I complained the manager said I could use 2 tables on the other party space. But how???? The place was crowded! Complained again and the manager said "Half of those coats on that space are from your guests". First of all it was not true, second even if it was, I do not want a space for my guests to put coats, I want a space for them to hang out!!!!!! Botton line we were squeezed by the bar. Very unconfortable. And I guess the other party guests were not happy either as we were too many taking over the bar! The place offered a bottle of champanhe "for my trouble". Not enough as I wanted my party to be the best possible and it was not... and I do not even drink so I could not enjoy the champanhe... :)

Pros: Could be a good space for a party (upstairs)

Cons: Do not know if can be trusted

I live in the neighborhood on 53rd and go to Mantra at least once a month. Its not marquee or pink but the lounge is always reliable for chill company and a good looking crowd. There's usually dancing on Fridays and Saturdays after 11:30. I don't know what the other people are complaining about but I've always had a good time here. Its a nice change from all the sports/irish bars in the neighborhood.

Went there with a few of my buddies last saturday and had a great time. Chill vibe - great for lounging out and for picking up conversations of earlier year when you meet up with friends. Cool back area both downstairs and upstairs, though upstairs is louder and seems to be where the action is.

This is possibly the worst bar I've ever been to (and I've been to a lot of bars). The service was slow; the wine (yes, wine) was clearly watered down. This management seems to be preying upon people from Queens, Brooklyn & Staten Island who haven't heard the news that this bar is awful. The menu is barren. The staff is non-existent and ,when they are present, want more to socilaize with each other than help the patrons! Aviod this bar at all costs!!!

I had previously gone to Mantra and had a great time during happy hour. The second time I went with a group of friends, however, I witnessed how disorganized the place and the staff at this place is. I had called in advance telling them I was coming with a group of 10 people to celebrate a birthday party. They said the upstairs was available and to just come in. When we got there, the bouncers told us the upstairs will open at 6. We also asked a bartender and he said the same. It was 7 and the upstairs was still closed. I asked another bartender and she said the upstairs was reserved for the whole night, and so was the back. We then had to stand by the tiny bar with the rest of the happy hour crowd. We asked if we could get one of the tables that were by the bar and the bartender said it was also reserved for another party. At this point I was quite upset since they were making me look bad. 5 mins later she mentioned that we are able to sit there since the people are not coming. After that we tried to make the best of it, but I just truly didn't appreciate the miscommunication going on among the staff. They need to have meetings or something to coordinate. I did not like the service at all.

Pros: happy hour specials, music, appetizers

Cons: small, crowded, disorganized staff, not recommended for big groups

.

I went on a Fri. night for my b/day and the entire staff at this place is soooo rude. I don't understand why they haven't gotten fired yet with all the complaints. The music sucked, the dj played rock and spanish rock most of the night and the crowd was so-so, not that many people, yet very diverse. The drinks were outrageously expensive considering I was served in a small plastic cup full of ice and had to pay $12 for a jack/coke. My girlfriend was charged $13 for a martini, and my other friend was charged $14 for a long island ice tea. So if you can afford to splurge your $$ and spanish rock is your thing then great, but if not, then don't waste your time or $$$.

I was considering throwing my 25th birthday party here and as soon as I walked through the door I knew this was not the place. I didn't have a bad experience but I cannot recommend this place. It is kind of small even though there are two floors. Security was friendly enough and there was no cover charge. Once again, I can't say anything bad about it other than the fact that there are better places to go to. I can't see having a great time here unless you're already drunk when you walk through the door. Mantra's probably a great place as a last option on a slow Saturday night but other than that, don't waste your time. it's just a "blah" place, nothing special. I definitely would tell anyone not to throw a birthday party here, it's just not memorable enough.

Pros: Friendly doormen and no cover charge, a plus in this location.

Cons: Nothing to write home about, an average experience that's not NYC worthy.

This was by far the worst experience I have had in six years of living in NYC. This bar full of UNATTRACTIVE people with no rhythm has so much attitude, but nothing to show for it. The door staff was rude, the bartender not only looked like a vampire from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but was nasty rude, and the whole staff treated everyone like dirt. The came up and literally took out the chair from under us. Seriously! removed the chairs from the bar to add an inch of space in this closet of a lounge. The guy fought with one of my female friends when she tried to sit down and snatch the chair from under her almost causing her to fall. They charged me $9 for a dixie cup drink. The DJ had A.D.D. playing only seconds of each well-known song and playing the whole song that no one has ever heard of. There was a cover at the door. If you are really from NYC you know not to wait in line or pay a cover. This place had both and as a bonus you get yelled at as you walk in and talked down to. The lady who was taking the money might as well been working on the highway in one of those booths - Rude and Lazy!!! They tired to enforce a dresscode that was saved for a select few. One man's hoodie was another man's Tuxedo. JUST DON'T GO HERE! IF THIS PLACE WENT OUT OF BUSINESS THE SPACE WOULD BE BETTER FILLED BY ANOTHER STARBUCKS EVEN IF THERE IS ONE DOWN THE BLOCK! THIS IS THE WORST "LOUNGE" IN NYC. THE STAFF IS BEYOND RUDE! NEVER GO HERE

Cons: IT IS STILL OPEN!!!!

DO NOT GO TO MANTRA. I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE OR SUPPORT THEIR BUSINESS OF ANY TYPE. The waiting staff are mindless idiots and the bouncers are complete morons. My party and I were accused of bringing a bottle in, which wasn't ours but left by someone else. According to their Sherlock investigation, they just assumed it was our bottle and wanted to kick out our party from the "VIP" section. There is no VIP section. Everyone can go there. So to allow our party to stay the "manager" said we would have to buy another bottle. As we were already there with too many people to relocate, we did just that. And when we asked to speak to the "manager," all of the sudden the manager wasn't there. I would bet my money that MONKEYS could run that business better.

Cons: Poor Service, Expensive drinks, Not a good set up

my bf set up a bday bash for me at mantra since our friend promotes there. the main consideration for choosing that place was the CONVENIENCE. we thought since they're not one of the premiere clubs in NYC, the door would be less strict and the service would be more relaxed. first prob of the night was when the doorman/stamp lady gave my friend an attitude. when she asked them if they were always this rude to their customers, the guy said, "no. just to you." 2nd prob. we had our own table upstairs but the private room was not strictly excluded. meaning, random people can just go in and out of the reserved area. there was this dude who was not from our party who brought his own bottle. he came up to us and started talking to us. ends up he left his bottle on our table and that's when hell started. the waitress told us that the manager is telling us to get another bottle or our whole party will get kicked out. mind you, i had at least 30 guests last night. one bouncer went to our table and started bullying my friends. "open your bags. your night is over." i was trying to explain to the waitress that we didn't know the guy but all she could come up is, "talk to the manager." so i asked the other bouncer where the hell this almighty manager is but he said nothing. to avoid stress and getting the party kicked out, my bf ended up buying another bottle. i even asked the waitress later on if i was being rude to her. i was just trying to explain that the guy was not from our party. i've been to the better and more upscale clubs in NYC and not once did i ever have a problem with tables. please, they think they are marquee or something. i should have just celebrated my party at an upscale place and not at this pretentious place. NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE!

Pros: music, attractive crowd, doormen were nice.

Cons: had to wait a bit too long for bottles

i was very hesitant to book my party there after reading some of these reviews but some promoter, Dave Jaffe, told me to do my party here and he set a few of my friends up and i know he has a good reputation so.... i was like, "alright, whatever......" Anyway...... my friends and i showed up around ~11:45 p.m. and the place was PACKED.... i was initially a bit worried cause it was my birthday and i was thinking, "shoot, this doesn't look good" so i texted my promoter guy and he told me not to worry and that everything would be taken care of....

We all got in, without having to purchase bottles, after a ~5-10 minute wait. If you don't wanna wait, i would suggest getting there around 11 p.m., or later, around 12:45 a.m.

In any case, the music was great, the crowd was very upscale and the drinks were cheaper than they are on 27th street and in Meatpacking.

The doorman missed "stamping" a few of my friends so i had to go outside and request them for them all to be stamped - which was a bit annoying but the doorman apologized for this oversight and readily stamped everyone after i asked.

We stayed until ~4 a.m. and everyone had a great time.

I didn't experience any issues to be honest... no rudeness or anything like that....

The promoter guy even followed up with me a few days later to make sure that i had a good time.

So..... maybe i came on a good weekend or something but me and all my friends had a great time and didn't experience any issues (besides the 5-10 minute wait and the hassle of the doorman not stamping a a few of my friends upon entry).

Overall, i'm definitely glad we did our party here cause i was able to get an upscale and Meatpacking experience without the attitude and the high cost!!!!

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE service. RSVPd for VIP for my birthday...was told did not have to wait online, not did we have to go online, we had to wait 30 to get in. Told them we were VIP and still nothing. However, a parade of guidos stroll in out of left field and they get let in immediately.

Bouncers are rude and and think they are exclusive as well.....

ALL WANNABE exclusive....everyone there were college, immature, wannabe special people.

I'd advise to completely stay away from this place. It almost ruined my b-day.

This is coming from an avid NYC club goer that's always looking for the best spots, not just someone out to get them....tried to give midtown east a try...never again!

Hop on a cab and go over to Evelyn's, just $6 cab ride, great music service, mature, sophisticated crowd.
(NO I DON'T WORK FOR THEM EITHER)

I go out to lots of clubs and lounges almost 4-6 days a week so I pride myself on knowing a good party, and let me tell you, if you haven't been to a Saturday nite @ Mantra you have no idea what your missing. There are tons of beautiful woman, hot wait staff, and that Spanish door guy was extremely nice (which surprised me after reading the reviews about the bouncers)

The DJ they had was excellent with lots of great mash-ups, a little something for everyone to enjoy. I think his name was DJ Rekka.

Ok the 2 small cons cons I have 1)Long line to get in 2) Drinks a bit pricey. Both are understandable though.

I decided to go check out the club to host my birthday party there, and boy am i glad i did. This place STINKS big time. Not only were the bouncers aware that i was there as a "potential client" but as i was standing there for about and hour waiting for them to let my boyfriend in, i saw how TRULY AWFUL AND RUDE the bouncers there are. One in general, was such an a-hole he was throwing cups, clipboards, cursing at guest (mind you guest who are willing to pay to get in) and telling them that he doesnt care if they are there for a party or not that they need to stand in back of the line. Then he had the nerve to tell me, "Listen honey i pay the bills here so you need to go back inside and stop standing out here" (<---Highly doubt that lol, but whatever makes you feel stronger lol) How rude is that. First of all you should of just let my b/f in before when you SAID you were i mean am i suppose to go in and hang out alone you moron?????, and secondly he was so rude to another guest that she left from there crying with tears all over her face, what a savage. After my b/f finally got in my mood was already rock bottom so we left 5 min. after. Definately will not be going back to that hell hole. And would definately advise ANYONE who is throwing there party here to RECONSIDER that. If you want a drama free b-day in midtown, go right across the street to Opal. They play the same style of music, have stronger drinks for cheaper prices, and the VIP room includes open bar instead of the bottle service you have to purchase @ Mantra. At first i thought that it was just that one day that i went that there bouncers where mean and rude, but from previous reviews here i see now that's not the case, its an everyday thing with them. Hope the review help. Ciao

Pros: The did play some good music

Cons: RUDE BOUNCERS, Too crowded

.

Disclaimer: I spent 5 minutes in this joint and had to leave.

There was an unneccisary line outside, like this was an exclusive club. I was harrassed by the bouncer b/c I had an out of state ID. We got to the door and were asked what party we were with, after reply, we were handed tickets, different colors for males and females. Two steps later, i mean really I could see the guy w/ the clip board and the tickets, we had to hand overour tickets. $5 for men, women free. My friend threw a party, they charged a cover, treated us like they didnt want our business, so I left. I did not purchase a drink, im sure the prices were wack. In it's defense the menu looked delicious. Good luck. Make sure you want this scene, it is "unique."

Pros: Music

Cons: Stuffy, cover charge, long wait, rude staff.

i went to this bar over the weekend with some friends and was slightly happy when we arrived, the bar was decorated nicely, the music seemed to be dance worthy and the bouncer was actually nice. the crowd was early twenties (terrible dancers) very early on in the night. i had placed my purse on the bar, to have several girls come to the bar and literally stand at the bar touching my purse (that was one maybe two feet away from me) when i said excuse me and grabbed my bag the girl continued to make nasty comments about me... as the night wore on, we stuck with our friends, and made the best of our evening. The space was also tight, no room to really dance or stand around, the bartender made a nasty comment to my friend and then continued to overcharge us.

Pros: drinks were strong

Cons: nasty bartender, immature crowd

my bf planned my bday party at Mantra last night and was in contact with a girl who seemed organized and we were excited. She was not there but we met another guy manager who also seemed organized. The room was nice and we were very excited, and then...NOTHING...no manager, no waitress, no one to take our order for the bottle service we were ready to pay for. We waited half and hour for someone to acknowledge our existence. There weren't any people there besides my group so its not like they were busy. Since the place was empty we decided it would be stupid to buy a bottle to sit in the room when we could sit anywhere cause NO ONE WAS THERE. so we moved to the bar, where there was only one bartender.
The music was so so. I asked him to play a song, he said yes, and then never played it. Oh but he did play a 112 song twice.
BEWARE, they AUTOMATICALLY CHARGE GRATUITY if you open a tab. The girl bartender downstairs is a nasty b.

The only good thing, very nice bouncers. And so in summary, this place SUCKED

WHO PAYS FOR BOTTLE SERVICE WITH NO WAITRESS? NOT US!!

I usually don't write or post opinions on line, but my experience at Mantra was TERRIBLE. The service is uprofessional, the music is lame, and the crowd are all posers. The place is uncharacteristic of the 2nd Avenue vibe, but if you are going to come into the neighborhood and do something new, you should at least do it well. Don't waste your time on this place.
