Impeccably fresh, traditional style and sushi from the bar complements seasonal fusion dishes from the Japanese kitchen. It's worth a trip down Prince Street SoHo, past the usual spots to sample the creamy uni and scallop risotto or tangy seafood ceviche in the warm-hued dinning room. Even classics like pepper-seared tuna are standouts with careful attention paid to saucing and plating. Nagomi is quickly making its mark as a down-to-earth but tasty neighborhood spot: a favorite among locals & destination diners. You're just as likely to see Bill from down the hall, as you are Manhattan's well-heeled fooderati grabbing a low-key lunch or intimate dinner from this Japanese restaurant in SoHo NYC. Nagomi means being relaxed and friendly. The staff works hard to make sure the experience lives up to the name. Expect attentive service and suggestions from the skilled chef. Kampai!
Phenomenally fresh fish!!!!
by sushil0ver
I decided to have dinner here with my lover before going to the comedy cellar and we both had a great experience. We started off with a spicy sashimi appetizer (unbelievable) and then had the tuna katsu which almost made me 0rgasm. I mean melt in your mouth yummy deliciousness. I highly recommend both dishes! We also shared the spicy double roll and the spider roll which also were to die for. The miso soup, the edamame and the pinot noir were solid picks. I will definitely be returning very soon. I love sushi and this place definitely got it right!
Pros: Sweet location and phenomenally fresh fish!
Cons: None!

Perfectt...

Perfection.
THE best restaurant meal/experience ever. The only complaint, and it's not really a complaint, is that It ruined me for sushi for months - others just cannot compare.

fun and delicious
by jcarcaramo
This is a great place to have sushi and walk around a neighborhood with so much to see. The sushi was fresh and the quality of the rolls and variety on the menu was top notch. My daughter especially enjoyed the sweet potato roll as it was served warm. Great neighborhood restaurant with good prices and delicious food.

Love this place!
by mimishim
I love this place! Great reasonable sushi, in a cool comfortable, non-pretentious environment. The neighborhood is fun to walk around in so I recommend this place to out of town guests. It is so far my favorite sushi place in New York. So many sushi restaurants try too hard to make cr
crazy rolls that don't make sense. I appreciate the fresh high quality fish that Nagomi serves.

i love unagi
by ahibbler
I just love this place for one reason and one reason only, I am in love with their unagi. It is always fresh and the flavour just makes me orgasmm, I have to fight to keep my composure inside the restaurant. I wonder if the sauce is made there because it doesnt taste processed or packed or anything like that.
Pros: Atmosphere, Unagi

Great sushi spot!
by pechorin
Attractive understated decor, attentive (yet unobtrusive) service, very good sushi. I would definitely go there again, if I'm in the area and in the mood for sushi.

Always Good
by 435berman
I have been coming this place since it opened up. The fish is always fresh, the waitresses are friendly.
They have a great kitchen menu and everything is yummy.
The prices, comparing to other sushi joints around this area and considering what you are getting, are quite good also.
Whether I go for lunch or dinner, I have never been disappointed.

I randomly
by north52
chose this place out of the restaurant list and it turned out to be a pretty nice place.
The ambience is pretty average, but the service and the FOOD (most importantly) are great.
Good quality food and affordable prices. A must for the service and a must for sushi.
Try the pepper tuna and miso black cod. Some reviewers recommended ikura(salmon roe), i really agree 100%.
Sushi is fresh. Food is tasty. Friendly service. Love the music played.
Pros: location, friendly service but
Cons: a bit slow service, small place

Nagonasty- How on Earth did this place come close to a 10?
by rnbny1980
Ok, I may be crazy, but this place was no where near a 10.
So just to begin, had made a walk in reservation at Blue Ribbon (good reliable standby) but did not want to wait the 2 hours, and this is about 10 p.m. So walking back toward home came across Nagomi and thought lets give it a try. Never noticed it before, but felt in the mood for sushi. The service was good, which helps but the food is what counts.
And food being the primary reason for going to a restaurant, that is what I am grading on. So what was so wrong with NagoNasty. Aside from the packet Miso soup, if it wasn't then it sure seemed like it, the main thought of the night was sushi. Sushi/Sashimi does not have many componets thus those that are used should be the best possible. Well I have to say that the over cooled, almost icy, fish did not meet the cut. It was tasteless, the tuna has an almost grainy consitancy and the salmon and unagi were similar in tastelessness. Just hunks of cool jelly, nothing there, but cool tasteless blobs. I had the Chirashi deluxe which in theory should be the "chef's best selection" If this was his thought of the best, I hate to think of what others ended up with. as for the other fundemental part of the dish, rice, this was disgusting. It was warm but dry and crispy. It was as if i had left rice from a chinese takeaway open on my counter overnight and heated up the next day and tried to make it into sushi. I should add that my dining companion had sushi and one of the special rolls. Neverthless back to the rice, I have had better rice of airplanes, actually I have had better rice after i left it out on my counter overnight. sushi rice is special and this was special but in a wholy different way. All three of the dishes had the same grainy old rice and tasteless hunks of supermarket fish. Thank god Blue Ribbon called to say that we could have a table in ten minutes, paid in a flash, didn't even bother finishing and went about to a decent dinner. Never again NagoNasty.
Pros: the staff
Cons: the food

Food Unremarkable
by ckdowntown
Atmosphere was great.
Service was strange.
Seared duck was too gamey - was not good
Sushi was nothing special to subpar.
Pros: atmosphere
Cons: food

Ikura
by evee19
I've been here twice and both times the fish was fresh and so tasty. If you're a fan of ikura you should definately try theirs. The sushi chef here marinates his own. It is not at all as salty as the processed type you would nornally find anywhere else. I'm putting my disclaimer in now. The last 2x I've been the ikura was good. If they decide to change their technique, I can't be blamed. Service is good and they want you to enjoy your dining experience. If you're starving! you may find their service on the slow side. Happy dining!
Pros: fresh fish
Cons: parking

probably yes
by chris095
we went last saturday night for the dinner and absolutely loved their food. Actually, I wanted to order the Omasake but the waitress talked us out of it, so we ordered regular sushi dinner and some kitchen stuff. everything was fresh and tasty(except the mackerel sushi, I personally did not like any kind of mackerel and the rib eye steak was slightly overcooked ) Try their toro tempura roll, it was very good! We also tried 2 different deserts and they were all ok. Overall I would give this place an 8. Would I go back ? probably yes.
Pros: location, toro tempura roll
Cons: couldn't choose salad instead of miso soup

Yuk
by Travelling_Fool
Just had lunch there, to be honest it wasn't very good. The service was absent minded and we were one of two parties in the place. I had the lunch special plus a couple of extra pieces. Most of it was okay - on the cusp of not being bad except for the Toro, which was A) $7.00 and B) gross - bad smell, bad taste, bad all the way around. The Irkura was likewise - tasted like it had been around a couple of days too long. The place is relatively cheap, but you get what you pay for.
Pros: Cheap lunch in Soho
Cons: Taste

Excellent place!
by nyc1111
I love 'sushi' but my biggest complaint about Japanese food in NY (in this $$ range) is that it all tastes the same. The fish in the rolls often isnt really discernible, the wine list is usually skimpy, ambience is often lacking and the menu doesnt offer enough choices. But NOT at Nagomi. This place is excellent. I had been on the lookout for a place where I could regularly get fresh, tasty Japanese food without feeling like I was getting completely ripped off. Nagomi answered my woes. Tasty food, good variety, cozy, ideal location (for me), friendly servers and decent prices. Overall, a great place!
Pros: All of the above
Cons: Restaurant is on the small side ... so might have to make reservations

No-bad-eat
by fsu32173
I have to admit, Japanese isn't my favorite cuisine; but I was really surprised at how good my food was. I actually enjoyed it. I feel like the only spice associated with Japanese food is wasabi, so I usually find any other entrées to be bland.
I went in for lunch and we got seats quickly. My entrée was quite flavorful and the presentation was well done, comparable to more expensive restaurants. Not your typical take-out sushi in a box. Actually, for a Japanese restaurant, I found the price inexpensive and they have a lunch menu (you know how some can be).
Anyway, I have to admit this is the first time I've really enjoyed Japanese cuisine. Even more than the food I had in Japan!
Pros: Good food, inexpensive prices
Cons: One waitress

Amazing place - absolute charm
by foodfrontiers
My husband and I came across this gem of a restaurant several weeks ago. First of all, the decor is very simple and inviting. I always prefer the corner spot. The service is attentive and friendly. Lunch specials are a great deal - fresh sushi for a fraction of the cost at Blue Ribbon, delicious tuna steak for $10.50, etc. I couldn't give this place a higher endorsement.
Pros: Staff, Food, Attractive

As good a dining experience as it gets
by blastfx
Service, atmosphere, prices, food...all outstanding. A few other reviewers recommended the pepper tuna and they couldn't be more correct. The rest of the sushi/sashimi just had a fantastic fresh taste to it. I'm looking forward to going back.

Diamond in Soho.
by painlover
If you are looking for a great sushi restaurant in soho area, you are looking at it. Once you are here, you cant resist yourself to comeback again. Great quality food, worm and cozy atmosphere, good price, and friendly service will definitely make you regular customer of Nagomi. Sushi lovers!!! Do not hesitate to try Omakase the chefs special. It's good stuff.

Great Taste That Makes You Say, "YUM!"
by cleanplateclub
Mostly I come here for lunch because I work in the neighborhood. The sushi is always really nice and they've usually got some wacky special for you to try. By "wacky," I mean good. The cooked dishes are pretty special too. I do like the risotto that they talk about in the review. I'm not even a huge uni fan but somehow it works and gives you a nice warm/satisfied feeling . I don't drink alcohol unless I want to take my pants off over my head but the sake list looks pretty cool. I'm not sure that counts for anything.
Part of what I love about this place is that it's warm, friendly and easy. The stark contrast to my evil office probably helped spawn my love affair with this restaurant. It's like being in therapy, only you don't lie down and it's cheaper.
Pros: Fresh, Tasty, Friendly

Very cozy restaurant where the service and the food are as good pleasant as the price ( great bargain!!). For a one on one dinner w/ a loved one or a small group gathering I highly suggest Nagomi. It's quietly become my restaurant of choice.

NEW, MUST TRY GEM IN SOHO
by mornglori4
Nagomi is a Japanese Restaurant with a twist of modern flair. The atmosphere is warm and cozy with a friendly waitstaff. The sushi is fresh and melts right in your mouth. The Nagomi sushi specials are all worth trying. You MUST try the pepper tuna!! They serve a number of dishes from the kitchen and the ones that I tried are all unique and extremely addicting. The dishes burst with flavor and each one has its own color. I highly recommend the green pea pancakes topped with mushrooms.. They also have a generous wine and sake list.. so, if you're trying to steer clear of the typical Japanese sushi restaurant and looking to redefine "Japanese Restaurant", check out Nagomi.. You might just find yourself going back to try out the whole menu..

finally great new japanese place
by newjphone
I discovered Nagomi on the way to my "regular" sushi spot in soho. I tried a combination of sashimi and steak. Both were excellent and I was impressed by the selection of sushi and suggestions by the chef. You need to be picky where you eat sushi and their quality is excellent. Very friendly staff and comfortable environment. The prices were also resonable. Actually I just tried it for lunch and was surprised by the value! I now have a new regular place to eat :)
Pros: fresh, friendly staff

GEM at a Value!!!
by jbae0
I was not quite ready for a delightful surprise when I walked into this simple Japanese restaurant in Soho. Stern sushi chef makes "to the point" "clean" sushi that highlights the freshness of the ingredient and Uni Risotto from the kitchen is simply a BLISS!! Great food accompanied by friendly service all at a very modest price that is very rare in this part of town - can't go wrong with that!

Amazing Find
by jp078
My friends and I stumbled across this restaurant after a day of shopping in Soho hoping to get a typical Japanese dinner. We were pleasantly surprised, however, by the unique menu and reasonable prices. Apart from the standard sushi menu, this restaurant had a variety of their own sushi and roll creations as well as some cooked fusion dishes (including a roasted duck that my friend ordered which that turned out to be delicious). The service was friendly and the ambience was calm and soothing. Overall, I had a really get experience here and plan to stop by whenever I'm in the area. It's the best meal you'll get in that area for your dollar.
Pros: unique menu, unbeatable prices, fresh sushi

Delicious!
by averyoldjoke
I have been looking for a good japanese restaurant in SOHO area and I finally found one. Most of all, their memu is quite interesting. Kitchen stuff has a touch of Japanese fusion - like Uni risotto - but sushi bar menu stays still in authentic Japanese cuisine.
Looking for new and fresh experience of Japanese food? Definitely try Nagomi. Start with today's special appetizers, which are incredibly delicious and unique; order Omakase Sushi then you can tell how fresh and various fish the chef wants to serve. Even Nagomi sushi set comes with Toro. simply the best deal.
Pros: Fresh, unique, skill
