I have to say I was actually disappointed finally coming here after hearing about it for years. First off, they have these uncomfortable yellow stools and the lining is coming off every single one of them so it's not that comfortable

The things I absolutely love about this place:
1. They can make your Mac and Cheese with gluten free pasta
2. The sampler platter is perfect when you can't decide what you want (no gluten free option though)
3. There's a bunch of different

My daughter & I saw this place on a food show, she was excited to try it out. On a recent visit to NY we decided to check it & were HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!! This place is deep in the East Village, and seems to be more of a local hang out

Really good. Portions are enormous! I have a really big appetite and the small was just right. The sizes look so much smaller than they actually are. I was with a twenty-something guy who couldn't finish the medium.

SOLID mac & cheese.

I have bowed to the altar of mac & cheese since I was a wee one toddling all about. In the years that followed, I developed a love for mac & cheese that has not yet been eclipsed by anything else in this world

Only in NYC can you get a place that just does Mac and Cheese. I know it's not good for me, but WOW what a way to go. \r

I had the regular one, and just want to give them a big thumbs up

I love S'Mac. When you are craving Mac and Cheese, S'mac offers many different styles of Mac And Cheese in 3 different sizes too.

I have to warn you that it is pretty heavy. So if you are on a diet, don't expect to walk out of here feeling light.

My favorite is the Buffalo Wings but the blue cheese might overpower after you are half way done. So I suggest sharing with friends or eat half and save the rest for later.

But man, what a great concept!

I'm not the biggest mac & cheese fan, but I tried S'Mac anyway since it's pretty popular and I thought it'd be a good place to try mac & cheese again. I'm very glad I did. I went for the original and absolutely loved it! My favorite part was how the top layer of the cheese was crispy; a nice contrast to the creaminess in the rest of the dish. I can't wait to go back and try other flavors, particularly the buffalo mac & cheese (I've heard nothing but rave reviews about that one!).

The food here is sooooo delicious!!!!! I had to go back the next day to try the Parisienne, had the Mediterranean the day before.
I love, love, loved the food! So good!
I highly recomend this place, you won't be sorry....just try not to talk to the staff if you don't have to.
(Both days when I asked them if the table was available, I was treated badly. I'm a very polite person and I didn't deserve it so I'm pretty sure it wasn't me.)

Cons: The employees's are a little rude...both days.

My first bite was absolute heaven. My daughter has gluten allergies, and we found this restaurant. The mac'n'cheese is creamy and crunchy with so much flavor that we were thoroughly impressed. The owners are there every day and are some of the nicest and unassuming people you will ever meet.

we figured this was a safe bet for dining with kids - it's mac and cheese after all! they split a medium sized "all-american" while the adults each managed an medium sized dish. mine with figs, brie and rosemary was a great twist an otherwise quite banal dish. the cajun was ok. you can also aparently build-your-own , adding toppings ala pizza until your palate is content. dinner for 4 (2 kids) was <$40. we'd go back.

On my way to enter one of the employees lingered in the doorway yelling to his friend down the street before letting me in. No apology or even recognition that a restaurant should welcome a customer.

The cashier seemed barely interested in taking my order and was more concerned with solidifying her evening plans with her friend (who was talking loudly on her walkie-talkie, bee-beep! kind of cell phone).

While I ate, the kitchen and counter staff were yelling loudly to each other and to friends, frequently cursing. There was also a delivery problem because the cashier had written down an incomplete address and no phone number - how do I know this? Because the staff argued and joked about it for nearly the whole time I was there. It was clear that the kids running the place thought it was OK to treat the customers as secondary to their primary goal of having a good time.

I ordered the medium sized the four cheese with broccoli and got literally four small pieces of broccoli. The multigrain noodles were rubbery. If I paid five bucks for my meal it would still bother me to eat in such an atmosphere, but since I paid fifteen (including $1.75 for a can of soda) AND the food was mediocre, it was totally frustrating.

I won't be returning to this place and I recommend skipping it if you are tempted to give it a shot. There's plenty of better options in the neighborhood.

For Mac and Cheese enthusiasts, S'mac is an amazing discovery. This restaurant in the East Village boasts a dozen varieties of Mac and Cheese - from the All American to the Indian Masala variety - it's difficult to find a dish that isn't appealing to your mood. Groups are recommended for tasting the different kinds and if you have enough people you can attempt the ??Mongo? sized Mac and Cheese. I tried four kinds but would like to go back to try more! The All-American is a classic-must try and the Napoletana was a tasty, garlicky twist on the classic version. The Mediterranean was delicious, but only recommended if you are as much in love with goat cheese as I am. The Parisian, the most interesting variety we attempted, was, well ?? interesting. The brie cheese and fig combination sounds good baked and spread on French bread but was a little off in the Mac and Cheese dish. I would love to go back with a non-vegetarians group and try some more of S??Mac??s offerings.

Good concept, and the food is great. I personally love the buffalo chicken one... the only drawback is that they don't deliver to our place because it's ONE street outside of their "delivery area" and the staff can sometimes be rude. Other than that, I recommend that you try it out if you haven't.

I recently called for delivery from S'Mac. First of all you have to go through Delivery dot com to place an order through their web site, which totally didn't work. I finally called to place the order. The person who took my order spoke very quickly, didn't listen to the order, kept interrupting me and was a complete d**k about it. I asked him if he wanted to read my credit card information back to me so I could make sure he'd gotten it right and there wouldn't be any problems. He said he couldn't, he'd already run the card through. Well, if it went through, he must have gotten it right, I figured. No. Instead he sends a delivery guy who asks me for my credit card numbers. I called S'Mac and asked why this was happening. The "manager" through whom I placed the order said he had voided my credit card, but he hadn't sent the voided receipt with the delivery person, instead he sent the receipt that reflected that my card had been charged. When I tried to explain why I had asked him to read my credit card numbers back to me, he kept interrupting and told me I "wouldn't get s**t". I have NEVER been treated so poorly by an establishment in my life, and I worked in restaurants for 10 years. Do yourself a favor and NEVER order from here.

We ordered delivery from S?mac, they took our order and, after an hour, the delivery still had not arrived. When we called we were told that this was *our fault* because we never gave our number -- even though they never asked for our number. They informed us that our food was already on its way. After another thirty minutes we called to inquire the status of our order and were told that our food actually had not left. This inability to deliver food on time or at all is appalling and unacceptable in New York or anywhere.

Now this is good mac n cheese!! Supermac in Chelsea is not good. This place has a great variety on its menu and also gives the option of creating your own. The breadcrumbs did not dry it out and it was very cheesy, greasy, and delicious - everything you expect from true mac and cheese!

When you are craving for mac n' cheese, and don't feel like or know how to make it yourself, this is the place to go! Very cheesy, oily, and hot!!! Not for people who are are scared of carbs, or on funny diets! I've tried the alpine which is swiss cheese with bacon, not a swiss cheese fan but this was pretty yummy! and my usual is cheeseburger mac n' cheese. Too scared to try anything else, once had a bf who tried buffalo chicken and I didn't like...but he was greedy so he of course ate it. Of course you have to get the breadcumbs on top (optional) which makes it have a cripy top. Avoid Thurs/Fri eve's or night, NYU students are there, it's crammed with people. Or call ahead for pick up-easy reheat container for when you get home.

I tried the Gruyere Mac & Cheese with the breadcrumbs on top. It included the bacon. I expected the crispy bacon but it was the dry lumps of bacon that I don't particularly like. The mac & cheese overall was pretty good, not as cheesy or tasty as I would have liked but I had to try it at least once. Ordered the largest size & shared btwn 2 ppl & we had leftovers. I would give it a try again just to see if the other flavors are better. The seating is crapped in there & not very comfortable & not the cleanest either.

for a place that only makes mac & cheese, this place was surprisingly mediocre. i went w/ a friend who shares my love for mac & cheese... after much anticipation, we were done after a few bites. i've only been there once w/ no plans to return so, so maybe they were just having an off day... or something.

Seeing that it's a Mac and Cheese joint, I wasn't expecting a culinary masterpiece, but I definitely make better Mac and Cheese. Maybe they use low-grade cheese and milk? I'm not sure, but I wasn't impressed. If I"m going to pay and go out to a restaurant for do-it-at-home food, then it better be good. But the worst part was that the place was DIRTY!!! As someone who is scared of getting illness from dirty food, I was extremely disappointed. I would NEVER return.

No frills, self-serve, instant satisfaction of the essential good old` Mac n` cheese! The eatery`s color theme decor is similar to that of cheddar cheese, respectively. Customizable dishes to accommodate to each owns production. Nosh single serving go a long way. Crispy breadcrumb topping, four cheese, ground beef, sprinkled with Louisiana hot sauce is absolutely delightful and can drive one to do the happy food dance, discreetly.

These people are not there to serve their customers. There are almost 2 menus at this place. There is the Mac and Cheese combinations and the select your own ingredients. I ordered one of theirs and asked to add bacon. Seems like a normal request but I was told there was no way because these were "Their recipe and they could not be changed". This makes no sense at all and that was the only explanation he would give. It appears they make it right back there so it's not like it's pre-made and even if it was they could just throw it on top and I would stir it in AND they make another $3. on the order. He didn't seem to offer another alternative to select my own. I almost have to laugh because it truly is ridiculous. This is a fast food place, not a 5 star and it's really not that good. I thought the noodles were undercooked and lacked flavor. I won't bother with this again; there are too many other fabulous cheap eats in that area.

My girlfriend and I loved it! No matter what type of mac 'n' cheese you get you'd swear these chefs were trained only to cook mac 'n' cheese, as they cook it perfectly everytime! I have never had a better mac 'n' cheese, than again no one has ever made this their main specialty in a dining spot. We loved it so much we ate at the shop, and than got a 'ready-to-bake' order to go. The ready-to-bakes are fully prepared and placed in an oven safe take-out dish. Simply store in the fridge until you're hungry and pop in the oven following the supplied directions. The result: perfect mac 'n' cheese as if you were still there eating! We have eaten at this comfort food spot about three times, and although a little pricey (it is Manhattan after all) it's worth it!

I had hoped s'mac would become a weekly ritual since it is around the corner from my laundromat, and who doesn't love an excuse to have tasty mac 'n cheese (fresh ingredients, skillet) on a weekly basis. However, I complained about very slow service, and long story short was told (inside the restaurant) that I was out of line and (outside on the sidewalk) never to "set foot in my restaurant again, b****." (Insert word properly describing a female dog.) The obvious question is whether she's right, and in fact, the person writing this review is a huge b****. I don't think this is true, but I also don't think this matters. The person saying this was the owner, so this is about the tone of the restaurant.

Kudos to Sarita for starting the restaurant, but fundamentally any young entrepreneur who can't handle a customer complaint is destined for a crash and burn, Icarus-style. And, no matter how tasty the food, no one wants to "enjoy" comfort food while reeling from the aggression of the owner. (On the actual lateness, it apparently takes a minimum of 7 minutes to cook to order. I waited a lot longer than that and no one seemed to be in line ahead of me. I would more philosophically think that anyone who operates a semi-fast food restaurant with made-to-order food would have a more than passing interest in operations management.) Sarita's food is good (if the decor is overly loud) but it's not outrageously good (i.e., it doesn't merit the abuse.) Service matters. Go elsewhere, and then go for dessert.

Pros: Good food

Cons: Hard to enjoy it in atmosphere

Really not very good. Maybe the kids will like it, but the only thing this place has going for it is the novelty. The noodles are all a bit rubbery, neither creamy nor al dente. The flavors all taste a bit the same, especially with the browned parmesan cheese on top. The bacon in the gruyere was tough and chewy, not crispy. The cafeteria atmosphere is not very welcoming. Definitely not worth a special trip. OK idea with poor execution.

As a huge Mac and Cheese fan, I had about 5 different friends tell me about this place when it opened. I rushed right down with a group of coworkers for lunch and it did not dissapoint. Since then, my boyfriend and I have been back many times, trying the different creations and just love it. The owners couldn't be nicer and are always so accomodating. The mac and cheese is delicious, I highly recommend the cheeseburger and the mac and cheese with hot dogs. We love it there!!!

Pros: Creative, delicious, great service!

Cons: Would love to have a few healthier options

What a great idea --- wish I thought of that! This place is Mac & Cheese galore. I had the cheeseburger one and loved it. Don't go if you're on a diet.

This place is great! I go at least 3 times a week. It is extremely easy to stop by and grab a quick bite of mac'n'cheeze! Sometimes during dinner hours it can become crowded, but go during the day and get the bake at home mac! Highly Recommended!!!!

Cute place, great concept but bottom line - BAD FOOD!! Kraft mac and cheese tastes much better, has more cheese and much cheaper.

I was expecting a twist on the traditional mac and cheese, especially since I ordered the fresh mozzerella, tomatoes, garlic and basil one. I thought I would be getting chunks of mozzerella cheese in the pasta. The base cream sauce tasted like it had cheddar in it. the Mozzerella was shreaded and just added to the top. The basil was nowhere in sight. For $8 all I left away with was a bad aftertaste. Hell, I can make better pasta at home with better ingrediants. Not worth the time or money.

A big jones for mac & cheese had my boyfriend and me ordering out a couple of months ago from S'Mac. Since the place just opened, it wasn't yet offering delivery, so we took a walk to pick up our order. I have to say I was expecting quite more flavor in our picks. I ordered the traditional mac & cheese and my bf got the four cheese option. I had to salt and pepper our dishes quite a bit. I found out a couple of weeks later that S'Mac has no indoor air conditioning and, since it had been quite a hot summer, I can't imagine giving the place a second chance until it gets cooler out.

I have been to s'mac three times since the day it opened. As a self proclaimed macaroni and cheese connoisseur, I was quite eager to try the City's only all-mac'n cheese restaurant. My first two visits left something to be desired - all of the different types I tried were OK, but didn't knock my socks off. I went again recently (about a month and a half since I had been before) and this time, the dishes had been upgraded significantly! Very high quality, amazing "cheesiness" and great flavor to all of the dishes I tried again (Gruyere, All American and Cajun). Add in the ample portions to the revamped food and this is instantly one of my favorite macaroni and cheese spots in the city.

I must have gone on a good days and I'm no fool--the person below me sounds like they're trying to sell another restaurant. S'mac was good (not excellent; that goes to DuMont Burger in Bklyn): I had the Gruyere with Slab Bacon (which was mostly crunchy and yummy). The Gruyere was an excellent choice and I might go get it again today. There was no line when I went, service was spectacular, and the owner was dishing it out with a smile. I'd definitely try it again!

Where's the cheese? Where's the cream? Seriously this is basically some noodles and some bread crumbs (if you ordered 'em). I live in the neighborhood and went by this place a few times just to find it without a huge line - what was everybody waiting for? These noodles might as well be cooked and drained, there is no cheese. I ordered the four cheese and the american styles and well, disappointed does not even cover it. They kept saying that they weren't open because too many people came and they didn't have all the ingredients, but I can't imagine it was cheese they ran out of.

It amazes me that there are yuppies lined up around the block for this mac 'n chees. If you want some real mac n' cheese go to Deborah in the West Village or to Alexander Smalls in Times Square. And if you want to learn how to make some mac n' cheese - real mac n' cheese, try Alexander Smalls book, or just buy some heavy cream to start - cause this ain't got it.

Great idea, but save your time, your money and your hopes for a box of velveeta. They should change the name from s'mac to it's cr*p. Only a fool would try this place twice. It's got no soul - and if you can't tell, well, you just don't know.

I read about S'MAC in Time Out New York and decided to take my friend whose fave food is mac 'n cheese here. It was so good. I had the Cheeseburger variety and she got the 4 Cheese. SO yummy! I was hoping it'd be a bit cheesier and the seating was slighty cramped, but I'd definately go again! Very yummy!

SMAC is a great idea a place where you can just get a good plate of mac n cheese. I have been waiting for a place with macaroni and cheese as the major meal to come around for a while. Unfortunately this is not the place.

SMAC has a great variety of mac n cheese and the prices are reasonable for the nice portions they serve. If you want a good serving of mac n cheese in several flavors, SMAC will fit the bill perfectly. I found all the varieties I tasted to be too liquid none stuck together the way a good homemade one really does even Kraft is gooier if you use less milk.

The regular American was not extremely flavorful and sadly just a cut above the kind youd find behind the hot counter at a deli or salad bar with a powdery texture in the sauce. I would have to go with the Kraft regular mac n cheese box with the powder, over the one at SMAC, though Id keep it in the fridge for a day and then heat it up for a great texture.

Gruyere and mozzarella were about the same and the gruyere should have been sharper like a good Swiss gruyere is, while the mozzarella should have been more garlicky and cheesy stringy like a good lasagna or nice pizza.

For novelty this is a fine QUICK stop if you are in the neighborhood but if you want a REALLY GREAT and untraditional mac n cheese youll head to the wonderful and trendy DuMont in Williamsburg for their OUTSTANDING DuMac and Cheese. It is the citys BEST.

My boyfriend and I went to S'MAC for dinner on Friday night. We ordered three different kinds of mac n cheese in the nosh size, which was more than enough food (we ended up taking some home). We tried the gruyere and slab bacon, four cheese, and cheeseburger. My favorite was the gruyere with bacon. The food was delicious and I can't wait to go back to try the brie mac with figs and shiitake mushrooms and the goat cheese mac. My one complaint is that the tables and chairs are so close together. The fun, bright colors evoked childhood memories, but I could have dealt with more space.

If you haven't checked out S'Mac yet, do it right away. It's this mac n cheese place in the East Village. Talk about a great idea - comfort food with some awesome variations. We tried the 4 Cheese, the Gruyere(my fav) and the Cajun ... they were all cooked to perfection and as cheesy as it can get! The wait in the line was totally worth it and I'm NOT a line person :-)
What was also nice about this place was the service ... very friendly and not rushed.

Ok so we've been hearing about this mac n cheese place in East Village and finally got to check it out ... it's awesome! The food was fabulous! We even got to speak with one of the owners, Sarita. Apparently they opened to a bigger than anticipated crowd and things were a bit overwhelming but everything is under control now and they have some great cooks on board. We ordered four different items in the smallest nosh size and my fav was the All American (dripping with cheese!) and the goat cheese one.
I would definitely go back and recommend this place to all you cheese fans!

The idea is splendid. I LOVE mac and cheese. But when you open a restaurant that specializes in mac and cheese, you would think that the mac and cheese would be amazing, or at least pretty good. Alas, it was a waste of $8. The cheese sauce is made of powdered cheese (how you make 4 cheese mac and cheese with powder, I do not know). Yes, the same stuff you would find in 75 cent box of mac and cheese at your local bodega. Using fake cheese in mac and cheese at a restaurant that is supposed to specialize in the dish is quite like opening up a juice bar and serving kool-aide. Ick!

We ventured to S'Mac right after they opened, and ordered the gruyere/bacon and the goat cheese/kalamata olive macs. Even though the place was jammed, the woman behind the counter was chatting with us as we waited. We asked how things were going, and she said that they are settling in after a crazy first couple of weeks, and that they had just gotten some new equipment and were starting to settle in nicely. Turns out that it was Sarita - the owner! She was super nice, and we sat down to bubbling skillets. The gruyere was delicious - the bacon gives the nutty cheese a nice balance, and the breadcrumbs contribute a nice crunch. I was a little wary of the goat cheese version, but it was my favorite. The olives are salty and the roasted garlic is sweet - sooo good. I can't wait to go back and try the cheeseburger!

Novelty idea falls short of my expectations. I don't think this place will be around very long. The idea of just mac and cheese gets old fast, even if they have a bunch of choices. I'd prefer the Kraft mac and cheese in the blue box. The mac is not good enough to be the focus of the restaurant.
