I will not recommend anyone to go to this restaurant ever again!!! I called once and asked about the ingredients of the dish I would like to order. The girl on the phone was not helpful and rude! She did not bother to find out the ingredients and said she got to go and hung up the phone. What kind of service is that???? BAD!!!!!!

I went to this place last month and the food stank (literally). Somebody order a beef stew and it literally smelled of a cow in a shed. We initially thought it to be caused due to detergent remaining on the plates, because everybody else had soapy entrees. On getting it the second time, it stank even more.

The appetizers were good, but the entrees left much to be desired. Also, I struggled to get the slightest hint of alcohol in my drink. Overall, the food wasn't worth what we paid for it.

This could have possibly been a one-off experience, since it was my only time at the restaurant.

Ok, so i've eaten here about 20 times, and normally i LOVE it...I nomally think that people who complain when a restaurant gets really good reviews are just people who had one bad experience and are uptight. Here is why I didn't like it, and will likely cease all future dinner parties:

My boyfriend decided to throw me a party there a week ago for my birthday. I had over 10 friends there, and at first, everything was fine. We were allowed to order off the regular menu instead of fixed price, which was nice. I, along with another friend, ordered the Ginger Chicken, whch I've had (and loved) there numerous times. I had friends order other things off the menu that they would have ordered at other thai places. Ginger Chicken, to me, is fairly simple. not spicey, veggies chicken, can't go wrong. In the menu, it did not say anything about spiciness nor lead me to believe it was any different from any other thai place on the planet, including theirs, which I've had before. When it came out, it was covered in little peppers that resembled jalepenos. They were spicy as all hell and were literally so hot that my tongue started swelling. Both my friend and I couldn't even eat it.

By the time our waiter checked in with us 20 minutes later, everyone else had finished and we were no longer hungry. When I complained (which I rarely do being a waitress myself), the guy basically said I had to order something else because they werent going to take it off the bill. They refused. That was their policy. (and let me tell you, I know how a micros system works-anyone can take anything off of any menu at any time, so don't give me that you can't). Although in no way, shape, or form, did I know that this normally unspicy dish was going to burn my mouth off. There was an opportunity to make it right, and they didn't. And I get that in some cases, an order may get screwed up, a reservation lost. Things happen. But this was thier POLICY. Meaning that even in the future, should the same situation arise, nothing would change. That even though, a ginger chicken item on the menu did not come out as it said it would it was not their fault. It was mine (I even grabbed a menu again to see if I missed a little chili pepper symbol or an asterik, or an ingredient-but NO WHERE did it say spicy). So I ordered a pad thai to go (I was told I was going to pay for something), walked outside, and gave it to a homeless guy. I wasted my money, I might as well waste theirs a little too! My friend didnt get anything bc the spiciness made literally made him sick. and they chaged him for it. Its really sad because like I said, I've given them a lot of business in my time as a NYer, and because of their management and the way they handled a situation, its unlikely I will ever spend another cent there.

This restraurant is great. It's so cheap and the food is good. I got five appetizers to go for about thirty dollars. What's also great is that if you dine in, you can bring your own beer or wine which is different for sure.

The Lower East Side is a great neighborhood to live and work, but there is a lack of healthy and yummy food for lunch. It is difficult to find a meal under $15 and I ask myself what am I paying for?! To go cartons? - maybe....

So Sticky Rice has decent Thai food (myself being part Thai), but their lunch special only applies if you sit in, not pick up or take out. I probably would sit in too, if I weren't working a few doors down, but even still it is freezing at their establishment, during this time of year (December) and nothing is worse than eating in the cold. The large and heavy draped curtain over the doorway IS NOT HELPING.

I have ordered from them a handful of times (for pick up), but could not take advantage of the Lunch Special ($7.50). So the waiter told me they have Daily Specials, which were $6.95. I happily ordered these for weeks, to then be told today, they no longer offer it for take out. What is the deal? I would be happy to order from them 3 or more times out of the week, but because they cannot make up their mind on how much they want to charge their local patrons for lunch - I will give them my business no longer.

Overall they are a bit snarky and rude. In a time where businesses are failing - they could try a little harder.

OHHH! And I forgot to mention - their Christmas decor is dried up and in need of changing. They have a large branch in a vase with mildewy water, but refuse to clean it, change, or buy another fixture. So please don't eat at the bar, as a glimpse of the putrid water may turn your stomach. The last time I went in they had a piece of cloth loosely tied around the vase to obviously hide the filthy vase - UNSUCCESSFUL. I hope they read this and make some changes; customers are not blind and do really care and notice.

Cons: Bad Service and Overall Careless

apparently they differentiate their weekday staff vs friday staff, b/c i called to make a reservation for friday at 830pm on tuesday and called again on wednesday to add one more person to my party, and on friday 2hrs before my reservation, someone at the restaurant called to tell me that they should've never made me the 830 reservation and apparently that they only do 8 or 10pm and their weekday staff had made a mistake. and then the hostess made it very clear to me that i needed to be out by 10 and i replied saying I think that should be ok. but the hostess insisted on saying no we need you to be out by 10. and i replied again i think that should be doable but i am being told this now. and then the hostess got irritated and said we don't want any problem tonight so i am going to cancel your reservation and hung up on the call.

Went here on a Monday night with a friend, and it's a small restaurant, but nicely decorated. I don't know if they just don't have A/C or if it wasn't strong b/c it was a little sticky (no pun intended) and humid inside. We started with the Mango Flower Dumplings which were amazing. I would go back simply to eat these again. For entrees we got the Cashew Chicken and the Spicy Basil Noodles, both of which I would recommend. It's a cute, cheap spot, perfect for a first date or a trendy-ish dinner with a friend.

Liked the funky decor and enjoyed sitting in one of the booths (although they're smaller than they look!). Had the spicy salmon lunch box which had a delicious tomato sauce which tasted like an italian and thai fusion. Service was a little slow but we were in no hurry on a lazy Sunday. $26 including tip for lunch and sodas for two - great value.

This place is cute, nicely decorated and good for a date or small group of friends. We were here for dinner and we all liked our food. It was a step up from your normal neighborhood Thai with some dishes you wont see everywhere. The sizable list of daily specials shows culinary effort as well. The down side was the server, who seemed a little over his head and careless at the same time: my friend ordered a shrimp salad and got a larger, more expensive shrimp stir-fry instead. The service was slow throughout our meal and while waiting for our check we realized our server was lounging at another table and chatting. Still, I will assume this is an exception and will come back another time.

I threw my boyfriend a surprise party here with around 25 people. I made the reservation ahead of time for 20 but said there could be as many as 25. They said that would be fine; they could definitely fit 25 people. So all 25 people arrived and we were crammed into one large table. We didn't fit. Some people found seating at the bar and we tried to squeeze everybody else into the bench side of the table. It was uncomfortable, but it ended up working out, even though some of the party wasn't at the dinner table.
My boyfriend loved his steak dish, but other people weren't quite as happy with their entrees. Our bill for 25 people came to 425 dollars. Amazing. BYOB was a plus and the waitstaff was charismatic.

I recently organized a group dinner at Sticky Rice. I had made reservations for 6 originally, but had to change to 7. The reservationist was very sweet about the change, even though we ended up having just 6 people at dinner. My friends had arrived early but were seated already in the back corner table, the best seat in the house, which is almost unheard of in NY. Since this was a BYOB, we had brought 5 bottles of wine, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that there was no corkage fee. The servers were very helpful with selecting dishes, patiently going over several dishes in detail until we made our choices. Every dish we orderd was delicious, and the servers were super nice. They never rushed us, and everyone at dinner had such a great time. And the best part of it was that the total bill (we had ordered several appetizers and desserts, in addition to our entrees) came out to less than $95 for all six of us!!! We gladly left a huge tip and a huge smile. Oh, and the lolipops with three different flavors at the bar was a great way to follow up the yummy dessert. Sicky Rice, I'm sold. I will definitely be back!

Well I should've just cancelled going there altogether after they called me within DAYS of my reservation-- to say that their receptionist screwed up and booked TWO 10ppl. appointments at 8:00 and asked if our party could be split up into two booths next to each other each seating 5ppl. Since I'd had the reservation for over a week I was really miffed but whatever-- we'd work it out, we'd made plans for places in the area, etc etc...

Once we got there, though, at 8:05 it was complete MAYHEM. The place is really small and when my 9 girlfriends and I got in we had nowhere to stand, and had to convice the host to ask the other tables to close up their tabs and leave. I was instructed that we'd only have 2 hours at our table, and even though the two tables whose booths we were to inhabit had been there since 6:00 they were not given the same strict time guidelines, aparently- which left us uncomfortably waiting in the middle of the restaurant... and as time went on... 8:15, 8:20, 8:30... we FINALLY got our two booths next to each other...

The food was good, though, and cheap-- and thank GOD we had lots of our own wine which was the only redeeming quality of the night. The servers/hosts were obviously over-run and although they were sweet, they weren't firm enough with the other guests to ensure we were taken care of... And (as you read below) my poor girlfriend didn't even eat because they served her food FAR too spicy. I enjoyed my meal and my duck rolls, but I would NOT recommend going here if you've got a big group or are hoping for real service. ALSO-- We were charged a 20% gratuity even though we had two tables of 5 people... I'm sorry- that's just RIDICULOUS!! Luckily it was cheap and small and cute, but I'd only go there again if it was me and one other person and we weren't that hungry when we arrived...

Pros: Cheap food. BYOB was the ONLY winner at this place

Cons: Terrible at book-keeping, Were seated 30 minutes after reservation, over-run staff, HORRIBLE for groups

They called days before our reservation to say the hostess had screwed up and we wouldn't all be able to sit together. We had reservations for a large party but had to wait nearly a half hour for our two booths. (They had to kick people out for sitting too long drinking their own bottles of wine.) They were nice enough, but not very good at enforcing their 2 hour sitting rule. I ordered the tofu steak but when it came it was REALLY spicy. The waiter told me panang sauce is a curry and he'd have them remake the steak without the spiciness. But when it came back out it looked and tasted EXACTLY the same. It also didn't match the menu description AT ALL (there were no mushrooms but lots of baby corn.) They took it off the bill and offered to make me something else, but by then everyone was done eating. Not a lot of organization at this place. Maybe better for parties of two, but even then you're relying on people who aren't expert English speakers and the miscommunication can lead to a reeeeally disappointing experience.

I went to Sticky Rice for the first time last night and was delighted! Everything on the menu looked delicious and the two meals my boyfriend and I ordered were nothing short of gratifying. The atmosphere is lovely and lively, yet cozy at the same time. The only con was the slow service. I will continue to return to Sticky Rice!

Since I love both Thai and Spanish cuisine on their own, I figured this place would be a slam dunk. Turned out to be very average - menu is weighted toward the Thai dishes and there are only a handful of Spanish choices. Appetizers were nothing spectacular and the green papaya salad also failed to change my mind. One wonderful offering that I enjoyed (and haven't found anywhere else) is the ginger tea with condensed milk. Tea with a big kick at the end. Overall, a nice casual place to hang out for late night nosh (BYOB still in effect), but nothing too special to go out of your way for.

Staff here are exceptionally friendly. The food is delicious, different, and extremely affordable. BYOB tends to bring in a younger crowd (with oversized bottles of Yellow Tail in tow), but the atmosphere is lively without being obscene. If you don't mind a little wait and a little crowd, this place can't be beat for value. The staff and food alone would make me a regular. BYOB (while it lasts) is icing on the cake.

Your Review:
Be conversational: Write it as if relaying your experience to a good friend.
Be specific: Generalities like "lazy service" or "tasty pizza" leave people wanting more detail.
Be yourself: If you're an expert on burgers, let us know. If this is your first-time massage, say so.
Be fair: Comparing the city's top French restaurant to a neighborhood taco stand is just silly.

Sticky Rice is a winner hands down!
Went this afternoon and tried 4 of their appetizers with my wife. Pretty much every item we tasted was delicious, including their signature beggar's pouches.
I ordered the Salmon Supreme, which comes in a curry/cononut sauce. To say it was delicious is an understatement. I savored every bite with the outmost enjoyment.
I will definetely be going back soon to continue trying other rdishes, which at those affordable prices makes the whole experience even more enjoyable.

This is a fun restaurant. Very bohemic with lotsa of personality. The decor is very pretty with plenty of pattern and colour clashes and the space may be narrowed ...but it sure made up with the clever booth seats and brilliant architecture. There was alot of effort to ensure the decor clashes to ensure a harmonous setting. It sure looks like it is a posh restaurant with soft lighting but when I saw the prices ....$8.95 for a delicious lunch box. Its like a "happy meal" with everything in it. you choose an entree and you also get other delights like pad thai and a salad in a bento box. Value for money indeed! The other entree prices are also very reasonable!

I enjoy eating in a beautiful styled restaurant and I would recommend anyone to actually have a dinner date there too. Candle light and soft flattering lighting...The high ceiling also suggest an airy non-claustrophobic atmosphere. very "BUDDHA BAR" ....Love it. Staff also very well versed with the menu. Recommendation: Short ribs!
DELISH! Yum

I had my laptop and they offer hot beverages and free WIFI servcies! EXCELLENT!
