Breakfast is my favorite here. The crepes and waffles are to die for, but it's all about the biscuits with chocolate. There's another one of these in NYC that I hit when I'm there. Not too many of these around yet so I like to get to them

I am not a chocolate fan but accompanied my family of chocolate lovers. The fondue was good but chocolate pizza was disgusting. I like the veggie burger, it was very different. The drawback of this place is it's never ending wait time and exorbitant prices.

Had heard a lot about this place as I love Chocolates. Maybe I was expecting too much. Extremely crowded place with waiting times between 30-60 minutes. So need to be mentally prepared for this. Lots of options with chocolates. Chocolate fondue was good. However made the mistake of ordering Chocolate pizza thinking its chocolate in pizza style...It turned out be a pizza with chocolate in it!!! Never ever try it. Veggie burger was good and filling. Hot chocolate was good as well. Prices a bit on the higher side. But cant expect less than this in New York and for such a unique place. Will definitely recommend for all chocolate lovers to go at least once. Non chocolate lovers...you can get a burger anywhere.

This place is a bit over the top. The chocolate is amazing, true, but the prices are ridiculous. An 8-ounce mocha for $5? It was delicious, but the smallest, most annoying drink I've ever had. The room is beautiful here, but be prepared for outrageous prices and more chocolate than you can shake a stick at.

All totally chocolate restaurant??? Hard to imagine until you get there. Chocolate pizza, chocolate fountain, white choco, dark, everything you can possibly think of. Great food adventure. Classic hot chocolate feels mundane but is really high quality.

****We came here for dessert, not dinner****. (Although dinner menu looked average, reasonably priced) Max Brenner's has an amazing atmosphere. It makes you feel like you are in the movie WILLY WONKA, and you feel like a kid again. The menu is overwhelming with an enormous selection of desserts. You can order anything from chocolate fondue, waffles with the works, chocolate pizza, sundaes, smores, you name it! My friends and I ended up ordering the s'mores fondue, the "chocolate mess", the banana and fruit waffle concoction, chocolate martini, and chocolatemarshmalllow pizza. Unfortunately, we were all expecting massive, decadent, over-the-top ridiculous desserts so we were a bit let down. Chocolate pizza was the best by far. The fondue was good, but the portions were limited. The waffle was okay.. I've had better at diners. The chocolate mess was given to us with hardly ANY ice cream. I mean, there were 4 of us sharing this and not one of us claimed to get any ice cream on our spatula. We let our server know we had been pretty shafted in the ice cream field and she said something like "oh.. ya.. it's in there.. i dunno..". Basically, the hospitality could use some work. Overall, the atmosphere and really cool menu with millions of other things to try would alone bring me back to Max Brenner's. Portions aren't too generous, but it's fattening - you probably shouldn't have all those calories anyway!!

Pros: atmosphere, huge menu, overall ambience

Cons: weak portions, desserts are just average for being a "dessert place", eh service

Went there after dinner for cocktails and dessert, and everything was absolutely wonderful!!! We loved the atmosphere and thought that it was the perfect to a night!

Wish I would have looked here before I visited this place this past weekend. I found out a month ago that the other location is just as bad so here's my rant: It's almost as if they hire only students who need a job for a month, because NONE of the staff could care less about the patrons. Does Max Brenner even train their employees or just pluck them off the street and hope for the best? When you're spending $30 - $40 for two people to eat dessert, they should greet, seat and serve like they give a damn... My first visit to another location was on a weekday... not busy. My most recent visit to the 2nd ave location was at 11:30pm on Friday... also not so busy. Both times myself and other customers at neighboring tables were left wondering if anyone was working there. One lady had to track down her waiter so her table could order another round of drinks! The food doesn't salvage the experience either... highly overrated. Ridiculously bad service. Stay home, melt a Hershey bar and dip a marshmallow in it... save yourself the aggravation.

Cons: the entire Max Brenner experience was a complete disappointment

I'll keep this simple

Service: abysmal; very slow, unprofessional, and messed up orders
drinks: very pricey and way too sweet
main course : overpriced, small amount of food, bland tasting
desert: tasty
ambiance: strange and ever changing ( loud music to soft music back to loud, light to dark to dim back to dark lighting)

Overall: avoid at all costs unless you just want some hot chocolate and desert. Really, why bother having things on the menu besides chocolate if they are mostly terrible?

My girlfriend and I decided to stop in for a fun girl's night chocolate break. Our waitor spent no time at all to share how astounded he was by my friend's beauty. Well, she's certainly lovely but... it started getting uncomfortable. He spent at least five minutes with his back to me unabashedly hitting on her! When he (rarely) stopped by to see how things were, he'd ask if she liked HER dessert and if SHE needed anything. I'm perfectly happy to stand by and see a friend flattered... but not only was he creepy and uncomfortable, he was ignoring my needs in the process! Rude rude rude.

We waited a half hour to be seated because the hostess failed to write down our names despite taking them and then sat 3 couples who arrived after us before us. Once we sat it only got worse. No waitress for miles. Finally flagged someone down who took the very simple order. 40 minutes went by--no food. Couldn't even make eye contact with the few servers. The food, once we got it, was good, but not worth the wait. Don't enter this restaurant if there are more than 2 people sitting in it--they clearly have no organization. Place is "run," if you can call it that, by lackadaisical hipsters with no common sense. Get your chocolate at the bar and GET OUT. Don't risk staying for food. The table next to us of six also waited an hour.

Having read its website, I went in expecting high quality chocolate bar for serious chocoholic but I was disappointed. To give Brenner a fair review: It is a real fun place with interesting ideas like ice cream bars with chocolate dips. I heard their hot chocolate drinks are amazing. I also enjoyed their frozen chocolate drink. Just don't expect high quality chocolate like lindt, ferrero rocher, or even Kinder (same brand as rocher), Bernard, Valrhona, Teuscher, Pierre Marcolini (I'm going off topic.. but hope you get the idea). It is more a place for kids. Maybe I ordered the wrong dishes. But Brenner's chocolate are way too sweet. Lacked consistency. Not smooth. Too much sugar. Lacked character. FYI: I ordered ice cream bars with dips, frozen chocolate, and smore crepes. I have had better s'more crepes. I can make better chocolate dipped ice cream bars at home.

This place was an absolute blast! I've been there several times and I've requested it to friends and family and they have loved it too! The first time I went, I was there with a couple of friends and we shared the Chocolate Mess and OMG, we fell in love! I also had the Cappuccino Frappe and I was back about a dozen times more for that drink!! It is such a fun atmosphere! I took my niece and nephew there and they fell in love with the Chocolate Syringe and they played with them for like two days! This place is great, however I have never eaten their food, but I suggest going for dessert or just coffee! And the atmosphere alone is worth the trip!! I was only in the City for a short while and now that I'm gone, I miss Max Brenner's!

My hubby and I wanted to try it but we were too full from a previous dining experience to stay and eat the desserts so we took it to go. There is no takeout menu, you stand by the takeout counter and the server tells you what they can do or not to for takeout. We decided on the pizza and the peanut butter and chocolate crepe. We get home and eat our desserts only to discover that the dough on the pizza was strange. I was expecting a texture similar to pastry dough and it was more like under cooked pizza dough. The peanut butter on the crepe was overwhelming and did not compliment the chocolate, as you would expect. All in all I would not recommend the food I ate or taking it out, maybe the crepe would be better eaten in the restaurant as oppose to take out but the pizza I would not recommend.

had a group of friends went on a friday night at around 9ish, we were fine with waiting for a table given that we had a large group of 10 and it was busy but it was over an hour and 15 minute wait. When we were seated it too forever to get served. Even though we asked two servers if we could get served they were like sure ill make sure someone takes your order but for some reason they never came back. We were so fed up that we just got up and left. What was puzzling was that it wasnt even that busy when we got seated. I wouldnt mind waiting for a great place but there isnt exactly anything sensational about the food at Max Brenner. Compared to Boca Chicas across the street, even there are long lines they have the stuff to back it up.

Went there last nite with group of friends. the host didn't even know who came in first to get seated and the waitress Jessica gave out dirty utensil. Gave us a bad look saying it's not dirty. if anybody goes there, you must need to check the silverwares b4 u eat. Best advice, ask for small hot water and then dip ya forks and knife to wash it. it's dark in there and u can't see it..so use the lil candles there and check for smaill stain of chocolate marks.

Been to the broadway one and it's better service. The silverwares they hang out is even not dirty. So it's not recommended to goto 2nd ave one.

We have been dying to give Max Brenner a try and now wish that we hadn't. We made reservations for nine in order to celebrate a friends birthday and the birthday girl left in tears. The first 30 minutes we waited for drinks, another 30 for food and only 3/4 of the party was served. It was over 1 hour 30 minutes until the last of our party got her dinner. No one checked or brought more drinks nor did they apologize for or explain why we waited. The manager walked by our table all night, ignoring us. They did go so far as to offer free desserts, for which we waited another 40 minutes. After waiting 30 or so of those minutes we requested our check, as we just wanted to go. They refused and brought the desserts. The entire meal took 2 hours and 45 minutes; which would be ok if this was fine dining; we actually just ordered sandwiches and crepes. We asked for the manager; she refused to speak to us. They had the audacity to charge $60 for the service. To add insult to injury there was a hair in one beverage and a dirty spoon. The food tasted ok; but the experiance ruined my friends birthday and the rest of our night.

After visiting both the Broadway location and the Second Avenue location, I wholeheartedly recommend the 2nd Ave. Max Brenner. It is smaller, more intimate, with shorter wait times then you would expect (I got a table on a Friday night within 10 minutes) but it does get busier after 9. I would skip the scant dinner menu and head straight for the desserts and chocolate drinks. They are creatively concocted and served, and often very filling. It's worth checking out at least once if the prices would deter you from returning again. Also browse the store, where their trademarked "hug mugs" and other drinking cups are sold.
