As a regular customer I have never experienced any rudeness on the part of the staff and least of all
the chef.
The restaurant and it's staff bring me back for one reason, warmth.
Having worked in the restaurant business for 20 years, I have seen my share of the good, the bad and the ugly.
Shorty's32 has always been consistent for great food at fair prices.
The staff has always made me feel at home.
Upon reading the review by musicmuse04 I couldn't help but question the motive behind it.
I encourage Musicmuse04 to consider returning and giving it another chance.
After all shouldn't you challenge the restaurant to prove you wrong?

Very disappointed! I've been to shorties a number of times. The food has never been great but went as a relief from my normal SoHo hot spots. They've dumbed down much of the menu but not the prices. Recently went with some friends. They were apparently OUT of nearly the entire menu and then a cook threw out one of our orders which was the last available. Apparently the Chef/Owner was personally offended when we complained and yelled at us told us to leave. Very unprofessional! You don't treat customers that way! Not to mention, our waitress was more interested in entertaining her boy-friend than serving us! Won't be going back, NOR would I recommend. There are plenty of other SoHo places with better food and better service!!

Pros: Convenient for SoHo regs

Cons: Rude service, over priced, not worth it!

Fabulous food and tasty wine! This place is pricey, so save it for a special occasion. The service is excellent, and the dishes absolutely amazing. These are the best short ribs I have ever tasted.

Shorty's incredibly delicious food, attentive and intelligent service, intimate atmosphere, great wine list and reasonable prices make it one of my favorite restaurants in New York.

I ordered The roast chicken had just the right amount of salty seasoning, and was served on a perfectly mashed potatoes and fried garlic. It was perhaps the best roast chicken I've ever had.
We were seated immediately upon arrival as per our reservation. None of that "oh, we're getting your table ready now" junk. We said 7:30, we arrived at 7:30, and we had a great table ready at 7:30. Thank you.

If you like wine, you'll find the knowledgeable staff and great American and French wine list to be really satisfying, too.

Highly, highly recommend this restaurant

I stumbled into this place one day while walking in the neighborhood with my parents and we decided to give it a shot....you never know what you're in for when you've never heard of the place....but this was a great find! My bloody mary was perfect, my omlet was delicious, my parents both ordere burgers which were incredible! Not to mention the waitstaff was very friendly and accomodating. My only issue was that everything seemed to take a little too long to come out, even the drinks, which was suprising because the place wasn't that busy.....(but I think we came after the brunch rush so everything was slowing down.) The atmosphere is fun, which Credence Clearwater playing and other classic favorites and unique lamps radomly hanging....I would totally go back and I recommend you do the same!

Simply put: this place kills it! I have been 7 times and I don't even live in the 'hood. Shortys has a simple, but tasty menu. The Cod dish rules. Burger is one of the juiciest in NYC. The pasta dish on the ap menu is one of the best I've ever tasted. I went recently with another couple to introduce them to the spot and they flipped out. My friend's girlfriend is a VERY finicky eater and she said she'd order anything on the menu. We had an awesome bottle of Crozes-Hermitage and jammed out to the tunes while we munched away. I've heard people say the music is too loud but they must be 78 years old (at heart) or haven't heard of acts like Bob Marley, the Grateful Dead or Gov't Mule!! Cannot wait to see what Chef Shorty cooks up for his Spring menu. One of the best editions to the NYC dining scene in the past 2 years since David Chang's Momofuku Ssam ...

Absolutely excellent food. And great service. My wife and I were treated great. And they had an amazing meal that had all of my wife's favorite foods combined. Ribs, Mac 'n Cheese and Guinness!

every kitchen has an off night, especially a new place. an off night i can live with. what i can't live with is waiting 2 hours for my food and to not have the waitress even acknowledge that there is a problem. sat down at 7:15, bread finally came to the table at about 8, starters at about 8:45 and finally the mains at 9:30. and we were 2 people, not a large party. the meal was decent but certainly not worth the wait. had the waitress at least apologized and said 'i'm so sorry, we are new and the kitchen is a bit backed up, here is a drink for your patience' maybe i could have forgiven but when i asked very nicely if she had an idea when the starters were coming out she looked at me like i was crazy and said 'uh, they'll be out soon'. luckily the GM was there, he was the only saving grace for the whole evening.

For a new restaurant this place feels like it's been part of the Soho landscape forever. The staff is so warm and friendly and really welcoming whether you are a newcomer or a regular, like I have become in the short time this place has been opened. Coupled with the neighborly vibe is the fabulous food. The menu is well edited and everything they do is of a very high calibre. The staff is so knowledgeable and friendly and will go out of their way to make your dining experience pleasurable. These people are real pros.
The only down side is the place is so small, if it gets too popular I may be sorry I made this review so effusive.

I love it. The food is divine - have had about everything on the menu by now and my only struggle would be what to recommend to a first timer as it is all delish. Good wine selection. The waitstaff is cheerful, helpful, attentive and genuine. Even like the decor a lot. You will not be disappointed. Bring a date, go with friends, eat alone at the bar....this place does not disappoint.

Yeah, it does seem that all the praise was written by the management, everyone I spoke to, politely said they would not return to GM. And I'm editing here.... Too much attitude with NOTHING to substantiate it. Don't waste your time fending off the PMS-ing wait staff and the "holier-than-thou" owner/manager; not worth the price, go instead to PROVENCE right around the corner. They actually know how to cook AND they are happy to serve you! Imagine this....

I ordered the steak.....should have gone to Balthazar's indeed, and about the tables so close, they obviously had high expectations, and all the times I've walked by it, it's been 1/3 full, so that is no longer a problem...

They must be hungry and non-discriminating tourists tired of shopping at Banana Republic and Express!

Had a great experience here the other night for dinner. When the weather is nice, they open up the doors to the street... gives this small and cozy restaurant an open and airy feel. The atmosphere is so relaxed. Staff is friendly and very welcoming. To top it all off, the food is excellent. Miso marinated hanger steak is a winner! Will definitely go back...

I ate here the other night with a friend and it was one of the better dining experiences we have had in a while and i like to think i eat out more than the average joe. The chicken was perfect and perhaps the best chicken i have ever had, though i tend not to order too b/c often times it is "just chicken," but this was def. not just chicken. The lamb though a few dollars more than anything else on the menu was as good or better than lamb I have had costing over $40. The service was undetectable which is how it should be.

With all the places to eat in NYC, I had the distinct misfortune of recently dining at this rather tight and beyond average establishment. The food, the service and overall ambiance were marginal at best. I'm a little confused by the reviews that I have read below. The overall timing was off, and the staff, including management, seemed oblivous to it all. This place is so tight that they don't even have a coat check, and coats were simply piled on the floor. Real nice. Even though the menu may appear enticing on the surface, the execution was far less enjoyable. At every twist and turn, this restaurant never failed to disappoint. Seriously, the place does not warrant the rave reviews that obviously management has written in order to hide the real truth: The emperor is wearing no clothes!

It was a HUGE night for me, needing to impress my girl, cause we've had a rough time of it recently. Being in a romantic setting was the most important criteria and of course it was Valentine's day. I'm happy to say that the Goblin Market served us well.

Every aspect of this restaurant was well balanced. The lighting was dim, but not too dark, the music was fun but not too loud, the service was attentive but not too overbearing, the food came out in a timely fashion, but they didnt rush us out of the restaurant, and the dishes were flavorful but not too complicated (generous portions, a $70-prefix 3 course meal, while having our choice on each dish for Valentine's Day cannot be beat). My date LOVED it and I left full and satisfied.

You have to go see it for yourself. If this restaurant can have it's "stuff" together on a busy holiday night, imagine the perfection it would have on a normal evening. Eli Manning was there and his date seemed happy, and I was there and my date was happy...what more could you ask for....can't wait to go again very very soon.

Pros: Food, Ambience, Service, Great Unique Beer, Perfect Date Place

My date and I have been to the Goblin Market a few times, but our Valentine's dinner was one of the best we've had in Manhattan. As we expected, the restaurant was filled (as all establishments are on the holiday), but we were promptly greated, seated, and attended to. As an added bonus we happened to be seated at a table near NY Giant QB Eli Manning! Aside from the celebrity sighting there was nothing pretentious about this SOHO gem. The staff were attentive but not overbearing - giving us time to relax and enjoy ourselves between courses - a rarity for a Valentine's dinner.

If you happen to be in SOHO definitely pass by the Goblin Market. If not, do yourself a favor and get downtown. You will not be disappointed.

I want to begin by saying that I am a native New Yorker who dines out 5-7x's per week, and I have to say that this was one of the WORST dining experiences that I have had in quite some time. My first impression upon arrival was that the setting was uninspired with too many tables crammed into a very small space. However, it was the awful service that made the biggest impression. I was one of the first tables to arrive at around 7PM, but was one of the last served for dinner! For reasons unexplained to us, there was over a 1 hour wait between the appetizer and the main course alone. The manager had the nerve to say to me, "What do you want me to do about it?" Overall, the food was nothing special. I had a venison that was a bit gamey, and my guest's chicken was bland. We were seated so close to the next tables that we all had joint dinner conversation, and if anyone need to use the bathroom, someone had to physically get up to move the tables in order to maneuver. Given that this was Valentine's Day, it made for a less than special evening. On top of that, the joy of this experience was over $100 per head. At that price range, there are many superior options in our fair city. So, if you're looking for a relatively expensive, cramped restaurant with average food and terrible service, then Goblin Market should top your list.

went to GM with wife and 2 friends last wknd and was simply blown away by the food and wine. we started off with the seafood risotto and the ravioli and immediately knew we were in for a special treat. the entrees - lamb, sea bass, swordfish, hangar steak - were all divine. the ambience is cosy and warm. wouldn't recomment for groups larger than 6. excellent date restaurant.

our first visit was friday night - nice experience. super friendly host. good service. good food.

the only thing i would suggest is given the tight quarters the wait staff should be more "pulled together" both literally and figuratively. our waitress was very nice but her hair was falling over us as she tried to talk to us and her loose sweater was swiping our glasses. there's something to be said for a tidy tee shirt, jeans and hair pulled back.

odd comment, i know, but otherwise it was great!

highly recommend the burger.

I felt very much at home here. The miso hangar steak was so delicate and tender and my appetizer of acorn squash risotto was sublime. We were impressed at the generous portions, not the tiny portions that so many restaurants nowadays are getting away with. I liked how our order was taken by the waitress, but was served by someone else, with the waitress standing next to us identifying each dish. Very nice. The pork and cabbage ravioli had an excellent smoky taste. This restaurant is a nice addition to Soho, not the usual, just go to be seen. It had an "out of city" feel to it, an escapist atmosphere into another time. I appreciated how the manager asked our opinion of our favorite dish of the night. We would certainly venture back to this charming restaurant.

A friend and I tried this place on a recent Saturday night due to good things we'd read and heard. We got there about 15 minutes earlier than our reservation, but were seated promptly anyway. The service was friendly and attentive. The tiny space is quite warm and attractive. Because we were only two, we were seated in the tables for two which allow about 1 or 2 inches of space between other diners. Forget about any conversational privacy. It's a common New York thing to be so close, but I have to say I am getting tired of that after 12 years or so of dining out here. The food was fine. Nothing to write home about, certainly. Their appetizer choices were odd, I thought. Chicken potpie as an appetizer? There was a soup and a salad option, but other options were more like little entrees. As an appetizer, I had an acorn squash risotto with duck confit and that was--okay. The duck had a lot of flavor, the actual risotto not so much. We waited about 15 minutes between appetizers and entrees. I had the steak frites as that had come recommended. Frankly, I've had better. The fries came separately from the steak, in a cone, and weren't particularly good in my opinion. The steak itself was good but, again, nothing particularly special. My dining companion and I both thought it was a pleasant place with okay to good food, but neither one of us will be going back soon given the options in this city.

I was there for dinner for 4 -- we arrived early, and yet the host apologized for making us wait, which I liked. Had a great fall menu, with good service and a very nice vibe. I'd definitely go back, in all seasons.

I was there for dinner for 4 -- we arrived early, and yet the host apologized for making us wait, which I liked. Had a great fall menu, with good service and a very nice vibe. I'd definitely go back, in all seasons.

went on a thurs. night and it was quite loud and busy but the food is amazing. our table had and enjoyed the following: carrot soup, beet salad, steak frites (amazing cut of prime beef), lamb, sea bass. the deserts were just ok but the meal made up for it. absolutely make reservations in advance.

i ate here for the first time tonight and all i have to say is... OH YEAH! we were a big group in a bit of a hurry and the waitress made sure that everything was perfect. down to sugessting a couple bottles of wine that we all loved. and the food... awesome! my friend had a second app after his entree just because the carrot soup was sooooo good (an beautifully presented). the only thing was that our entrees took a bit too much time and the app portions seem a bit tiny. besides that i will come back for sure.

Warm, inviting ambience. Charming and friendly waitstaff. Simple, elegant flavors. This was a dining experience I will not soon forget. Try the nicoise salad and steak frites...thoughtfully prepared, and beautifully presented. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are not modest. Highly, highly recommended.

The food was great but the servers must be friends of the owner. It seemed like they had no experience. They didn't care about paying attention to us, and were very slow. That being said, the food was as good as anything in NY

Great newcomer in a great hood! Old Man Snyder's crabcakes are the best Maryland crabcakes in the city! The ambience is warm and inviting (albeit a bit tight) so I suggest making a reservation in advance -- I doubt The Goblin will remain under wraps in Soho for long!

Goblin Market is a breathe of fresh air in a neighborhood whose restaurants usually focus more on being trendy than delivering truly excellent food and great dining experience. The restaurant is a quaint cozy spot with great lighting and atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and had a great knowledge of the food and wine. We tried many things on the menu---my favorite being the miso marinated beef salad, crab cakes, and the best fries I have tasted outside of France! They also have a great wine selection. It is not huge, but carefully choosen and does not disappoint. I would highly reccomend Goblin Market to anyone looking for a great dinner and night out.

I've already eaten at the Goblin Market a couple times and on each occastion, my taste buds beg for more. The dishes literally encourage me to chew slower so I can savor every bite. I eat at alot of restaurants in Manhattan, and am rarely enticed to go back for a specific dish. Already, I'd happily eat at this place weekly just to have a bite of the pork belly, miso glazed steak salad, and risotto. The crab cakes aren't half bad either. Flavors are distinct, dishes are beautifully prepared, and details in the presentation are not spared. This is not your standard Aqua Grill. Come here on a date, with family, or with a small group of friends (I'd say 6 or less) and you'll be impressed, and without the typical Soho pretentiousness.
